The Official Gundam Hathaway Anime Thread Mk I
Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Anime Thread Mk I
Does anyone know how long it takes to make an Anime movie? If it entered pre production immediately after the first movie, that may narrow it down. However I seem to remember an older post suggesting Sunrise units were understandably focusing on one project at a time.

There's no one answer because it depends on the movie. At least a few years ago, it was reported that they had not started production on the second movie because they did extensive location scouting for the first and then COVID stopped them from traveling. I have to imagine it's moved into production now, but I wouldn't expect it this year.Mafty wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 5:01 pm Does anyone know how long it takes to make an Anime movie? Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Anime Thread Mk I
Mantan-Web news has the following to say back in a January article I translated:
Fans are also eagerly awaiting updates on the second part of the theatrical film Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash. The first part was released in 2021, and the tentative title of the second part is Son/Sun of Bright. However, no further information has been released in 2023.
“We’re diligently working on the second part of Hathaway’s Flash. It’s a critical point for the characters, and the visuals will exceed everyone’s expectations. Director Murase and the entire team are working hard to bring something extraordinary soon,” Ogata assured.
Guess you need to search better. They've mentioned it quite a few times in interviews and whatnot. Granted only one liners, but crucial updates included:
January 2023: Designs and other aspects are being finalized, and the story is starting to take shape. While the main story will be based on volume two, it will be different while keeping the spirit of the novel.
February 2023: Producer Ogata has again confirmed that the script for the 2nd film has already seen one completion and the director is making adjustments for the storyboarding, which is currently underway.
June 2023: Ogata talks about honoring Tomino and recent convos he had with him about the second volume of the novel trilogy.

It feels a bit unfair to say I need to search better and then in the same breath admit that there aren't any official announcements to find and that only a truly exhaustive search of interviews would find one-liner comments about it buried in discussion of other topics.Deacon Blues wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 10:03 am Guess you need to search better. Anyway... it sounds like no concrete news of anything like an in-production date or release date, just a "we're working on it". Thanks for digging out the details from those interviews though.

It depends on your definition of "official announcement." They're all from official publications (but given your distaste for so many, they probably don't qualify). Many of the articles and interviews have lead with Hathaway as a sort of clickbait highlight, so it's not like there was that much digging involved.Seto Kaiba wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 11:14 am It feels a bit unfair to say I need to search better and then in the same breath admit that there aren't any official announcements to find and that only a truly exhaustive search of interviews would find one-liner comments about it buried in discussion of other topics.
If you don't actively follow the media you're not in the know, plain and simple. None of it is unknown material to most in the JPN/CHN spheres. It's the ENG fandom that's in the dark as usual.
But, I don't get what people want at this point. We've been filled in on a scripting stage, a storyboarding stage, a scouting stage, pre-production stage, etc. Apparently they expect instant turn around after a global pandemic blew up an already hectic production process for the first film. *eyeroll*

I mean something like a press release... the kind of thing that generally drives news posts on hobby sites.Deacon Blues wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 5:59 am It depends on your definition of "official announcement."
The majority who can't read/speak Japanese tend to depend on those to feed into news outlets in their native language.
It seems clear to me from the question we both answered that what they're looking for is what we don't have: an update regarding the film's release date. I don't think anyone expects instant turnaround or immediate recovery from pandemic-era work stoppages... they just want to know when the film is coming.Deacon Blues wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 5:59 am But, I don't get what people want at this point. I feel like its either going to be late 2024 or mid to late 2025.
If they follow the novel there should be a pretty big battle the second the second movie starts, wonder what kind of MS they will have the rebels stationed in north Australia will be using

Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Anime Thread Mk I
So how different is the MS in the book? Does the novel feature MS from earlier in the timeline , or does it mainly focus on the four units introduced ?
