I love Mortal Kombat 11 because the character customization process is a little more difficult and at the same time more interesting. The crypto helps a lot with this. Read this guide on where exactly you can find the key items. Remember that one key item must be crafted in the MK11 forge area.

11 was my first MK since my arcade days and I've been tripping on it since release. Just like 3 months ago I picked up MKX for the first time and I can definitely see the appeal of X over 11. Among many other things I like the X-ray and meter system much better. And Ferra/Tor is pretty freaking kool lol. That said I'm playing 11 today, it's more visually appealing if nothing else.
