- Adam Trask -

Having made his way through the Dervish's corridors with little trouble, Adam eventually reached the bridge. Pausing just outside, he ran his hand through his hair and took a deep breath. Having composed himself sufficiently, he keyed the door open and took one step through and said, "Lieutenant Junior Grade Adam Trask, reporting." He took a quick opportunity to look around, noting the many people bent to their tasks in the much larger space compared to the bridge on the older Salamis.

Re: Episode 22 - Capitalize [4th]

- The Dervish -
- Bridge -

"Mark, go ahead and get me the New Yark again," Abbey said, gesturing up at the main monitor. It was a little early, but getting a leg up on preparations for the long rounds of briefings would help out and Guanche was the first man to talk to. The backup comm operator nodded and started to reconnect with the other docked ship. The bridge door opened, and Adam announced himself, "Lieutenant Junior Grade Adam Trask, reporting,". The captain stood up from his chair and approached Trask, returning the proper salute. "So I see our shuffling has begun," Abbey chuckled, "At ease, Mr. Trask. Welcome aboard the Dervish - I hope you'll have continued success here,".

"Sir, I've got Capt. Guanche," Hall interrupted. "If you'll excuse me, JG. If you've got any questions you can stick around for a few minutes. Otherwise go ahead and find your new quarters and get moved in," the captain nodded to Adam before walking back to a better spot to view Guanche's image. "Chris, how long do you think it'll take you to cook something up for our first meeting when everyone gets back?" Abbey asked. Capt. Guanche adjusted his glasses and thought it over a moment before answering, "Well, despite the barebones information we were given I think I can have a general overview ready if you want to bring the pilots in that afternoon,".

- Hangar -

"HEY! Back up! I don't want any of you idiots hurt while we're in port," Sager yelled at his crew as they prepared to close up the huge hangar doors. "All right, close her up!" he ordered, waving up to the men in the control room. Now that the big deliveries were done and all the parts were inside, there was no reason to keep the ship's launch deck open to the docks. Construction and repairs would continue once the doors were secure. "Okay everybody, take fifteen. We'll have a full crew back tomorrow morning, so there won't be any more excuses. Let's get that second Kanone done."

- The Docks -

"I'm a replacement. And I was just on my way over there. Just seeing if this guy needed help, not that I blame him for getting lost, these ships all look alike," Wales explained, looking around the small knot of people around the EFSF jeep. He reacted to Jacob and said, "Hey, that was the guy who nearly started a brawl at... what's it called... 'Chapmans'! He was ranting and carrying on... something about... squished heads... and mobile suits... or something,". Fritz noted the way the replacement distractedly trailed off at the end of his story and followed his gaze to see what he was looking at. Michiko had knelt down to coo over Jacob with Elizabeth and Celeste.

Stepping into his line of sight like an irritated older brother Fritz suggested, "Well, if you want to get settled in, the Balrampur is right down there,". Over at the very drunk Ltjg. Markado, Celeste responded to his invitation with a subdued, motherly smile. "We all got scars you little nugget head. Most times you can't see 'em but the ones you do see remind you of who you are and where..." Bernard interjected. After a pause he seemed to change his line of thought. "Screw this. Give that kid some coffee will ya... I fought for Independence once and it was a farce... I just hope that this is worth it," he threw his hands up and headed for the Hamburg.

"He didn't mean anything by it," Celeste called out at Korbel's back as the pilot left the area. She turned back to Jacob and brushed off the front of his uniform jacket. "We can get something to eat on the ship, Jacob. But I think you need to lay down," she said. "You're the last person I'd have guessed would go out and get blind drunk," Michiko said, fixing his collar. "I think you two can get him to his room," Elizabeth said, standing up, "And some food might be a good idea,". "As long as he's not sitting on or against my jeep I don't care what you do with him now, ladies," Darby spoke up as he climbed back into the driver's seat, "Make sure he sobers up before he heads back into town. And if he's set on causing trouble it would be decent of him to wear civilian clothes,".

- Chapman's Bar -

After a couple of minutes of quiet conversation (compared to the way things were when Jacob was still present) Ramon finished his third cocktail and stood up from the table. "Okaay~! Drinking and friends~!" he said, nodding to the doctor and Rem. "You've decided to go too, eh?" Dr. M said, poking at his food. He put out his cigarette and bowed his head slightly. "It was, eh, a pleasure, lieutenant," he said. After Ramon headed for the bar to pay for his drinks, Merkwürdigliebe wondered aloud, "Where has Sophie gone to? I, ah, hope we didn't frighten her away,".

Ash raised his arm up and rubbed the back of his head, showing a good length of his tattoo'd forarm. He actually seemed to blush for a moment, as he looked around for a way to avoid the question.

"Ummm. No, not really from Earth. Actually a long, long way off......."

He turned to Wales and asked "What sort of machines do you think we'll be getting? I've been enjoying the Human-type Mobile suits the AEUG uses. I think I'd rather keep up with them then adjusting to the other types."

Kou moved through the hallways of the ship, having finally decided to board the ship. He had visited the bridge first and then his assigned quarters. This old Salamis-kai was nothing compared to the Albion - but then again, there were still few ships that were like that in any fleet, even the new Titans ships lacked the feel of the White Base Class ships.

He hated to admit it, but Kou had gotten lost a few times. He had been turned around following old habits, turning at the wrong quarters - so it had taken him a few extra minutes to find the hanger. Once inside, he watched the mechanics bustling around, getting maintence done so they could have some leave. He could easily see 2 Nemo's in their racks - he knew one of the 4 would be his. He fingered a data drive in his pocket, it contained his personal piloting information, so he could easily adjust a new suit to the way he liked it. Taking a deep breath, he flagged down one of the mechanics....

- Chapman's Bar -

Sophie lost track of time as she looked into the mirror. All that had gone on in the bar disturbed her. After all, she hadn't been sent into combat for a while now due to her injury, but with the finaly push coming up it seemed inevitable she would. Time away had no doubt dulled her reaction time.

With a sigh she walked out of the bathroom and back towards the table. A lot of people had already cleared out of the bar.

"Rem, Dr. M, sorry about that," Sophie was speaking lower then she had before as she sat down.
"Kamille, if it wasn't for you...." Jerid's last words

"Well, if you want to get settled in, the Balrampur is right down there,"

"right right, i hear you." wales replied as he took his eyes off of michiko and looked at the other guy who was looking for the Balrampur but just as he was about to say 'lets go' the guy opened up.
"What sort of machines do you think we'll be getting? I've been enjoying the Human-type Mobile suits the AEUG uses. I think I'd rather keep up with them then adjusting to the other types." wales just stood gobsmacked for a moment staring at him like the guy had grown a second head before replying.

"er...wait.what?...human types i imagine, seeing as we're in space in all, i've never exactly heard of a tank being much use anywhere other than on the ground." shaking his head he grabbed the guy's shoulder and turned in the direction of the Balrampur " lets go, have the feeling we've worn out our welcome." with that he set off towards the ship, not knowing or caring if the guy was following him or not.

"Oh yeah. Yeah, you're right. We do all have scars. Here, let me show you," Jacob agreed with the stranger. He started to pull off the right sleeve of his jacket but had a problem somewhere along the way. For several seconds, he flailed around with his right arm stuck in his sleeve, posing quite a menace to the people around him until he hit the funny bone in his elbow against the fender of the jeep.

"OOooooow!" he declared loudly before hissing with the pain. He fell over onto his side, clutching his wounded elbow through the fabric of his jacket. "Stupid jeep!" he yelled, pushing up to his feet and aiming a kick at it.

It was a glancing blow at best, since the motion upset his balance and sent him stumbling back. He caught himself just before he fell, holding one arm out like an acrobat on a high wire, while the other remained caught in his jacket.

"Oh Mikicho...Miki...Mikikoko...MiCHiko, I'm not that drunk. See?" To prove his point he started to walk heel to toe toward the ship, though he almost feel over and the line was hardly straight.

He stopped and pulled at his sleeve again, finally getting it off but pulling himself in a complete circle. "I haven't had eaten all day. I don't see why I should start now," he informed Celeste before turning in the general direction of the entrance to the Dervish and marching toward it, still with one arm out of his jacket and one in.
Yep...That's Texas in a nutshell. Why just say "f**k you" when you can put it on a flag?

Rem looked up as Sophie rejoined them. "Hey, welcome back!" He smiled at her, hoping she was not upset still. Rem felt a little angry at Markado for blowing up like he did, but on the other hand he couldn't really fight the man's sentiments. He tried to shake it off, especially since that was likely what set Sophie off. He gestured at the table. "The waiter should be back soon, are you still hungry?" Glancing just past her, he tried to find where the waiter had gone. In doing so, he noticed the clock. God, how long had they been here, just waiting? This was not precisely how he had planned this evening to go...

Michiko and Celeste quickly caught up to Jacob to corral him and escort his wobble up the ramp to the Dervish, with Celeine Caro'd following closely behind trying not to laugh. Darby and Jones waited until most of the AEUG pilots were clear before the fired up the jeep and turned around to leave. "These guys are crazy..." Jones said, looking back at Markado struggling to keep his footing. Darby chuckled and shrugged, "They're pilots, man,". The EFSF jeep made its way back towards the vehicle elevator as Fritz and Elizabeth continued on their way to the other exit. Outside, Fritz stowed the small box of belongings in the tiny cargo area of the elecar they had used before and they climbed in to head back to their apartment.

Once the elecar was in motion on the street, Elizabeth turned to Fritz and said, "I know you just got a reorganization dumped in your lap, but try to not think about it tonight. This is the last night of your time away...". Fritz smiled shook his head, "There's no way I'm wasting the last night of a pass worrying about it. They'll have plenty for me to do until we float our way out to Gryps,".

- Chapman's -

"Rem, Dr. M, sorry about that," Sophie said as she returned to the table. "Not at all," Dr. M said with a pleasant smile as he stood up until she had taken her seat again. "Hey, welcome back!" Rem brightened up, "The waiter should be back soon, are you still hungry?". The doctor looked at his own watch when he noticed Rem checking the time. He leaned back in his seat and offered, "Eh, you know... My 'friends' at the lokal office want me to come in and, ah, help them start going over the data we collected. If you two would like to stay enjoy yourselves here, I can go and help them mit that,".

-The Dervish-

"You guys...you guys are really sweet for helping me onto the ship," Jacob slurred. His arms were around each woman's shoulders and he tightened his grip until he was practically choking them. "I'm real lucky to..."

Jacob stopped abruptly, his eyes going wide and his face turning green. "Oh no...oh no! Turn on the gravity! Quick! Turn on the gravity or it's going to go everywhere!"

Just then, half of the last beer that he'd had at Chapman's made the return trip up his esophagus. He doubled over as the liquid exploded from his mouth with impressive force and spattered all over the deck.

"Phew! Good thing they got the gravity on in time. That could have been a real mess," he said.

-Bernard's Quarters-

Stuffing the last of his belongings in a small duffel bag and with Bernard's high just about gone, he stabs himself with another stimulant to wake up before leaving his room and going over to the Dervish. Taking a last look at the ghosts in his room he spits out his farewell, "Good riddance."

While walking down the hallway he passes Hale without stopping and gives a quick salute to the junior grade officer, "Good luck with this odious place. Gotta go." Continuing down the hallway without wanting to start a conversation he picks up his pace toward the elevator and pushes the call button just as another junior grade officer approaches. He secures the duffel bag closer to his shoulder and nods over at the green-eyed female officer not noticing the uniform.

Re: Episode 22 - Capitalize [4th]

-Amman-

Cowboy had simply sat waiting, thinking to himself. The car rental place was, as always, busy. People coming and going, a lot, he knew, either AEUG members or doing something related to that. Still, he saw a sizeable portion were clearly civilians simply coming by to get a car. People who simply lived in the lunar city and went about their lives.

It was then that the thought hit him light a lightning bolt; Marvin had been one of them. A year before, Marvin had been working for a salvage company. He'd been piloting a wreck of a weaponless RGM-79, going out and bringing in anything that might have been some value. It had been both boring and fun, with a hint danger that now struck him as nothing. The Titans had been a group who annoyingly inspected them every few days, making sure that the junk they were hauling back from shoal zones and lunar orbit was just that. The AEUG had been some nasty, rumor-like group that nobody really knew anything about.

And then Keith had been killed. It was something Marvin hadn't really thought about, but at the time, it was the only thing in his mind. His older brother had left Side 6 and gone to the still developing Side 7 to work for some bank or something boring like that, Marvin didn't remember what, but it had inspired him to leave Riah literally days before the Federation redesignated it as Side 5 in 0084. Keith had always been low key, but Marvin had still looked up to him because he'd usually been nice to him. His office had been hit by a beam rifle shot, the result, Hamilton learned later, of combat between the Argama team and the Titan defense teams. The latter had outright admitted that one of their units had fired the shot, claimed to be in a valient defense against the AEUG terrorists, but it had been the last straw. Keith had been killed instantly, and Marvin, having grown more and more enraged at the Titans, had jumped to join them. Within a few days, he'd officially joined the AEUG.

And then he'd been here, in Amman. Sitting around for three months with a GM II team, living like all the civilians he was watching. It had basically been an office job. Wake up, drive down to the port, sit in a ready room, do nothing. After a week he'd been volunteering for every replacement and combat post he could get. In those months, they'd only scrambled to meet the enemy once, and even then, the battle had been over before he'd arrived. That team was still here, but Marvin had never gone to see them. The Dervish was his home, it's team, or at least, Team 2, the one he identified with, but in the back of his mind, he wondered if he would have been better off staying with the cushy defense job...

"Cowboy!", the voice yelled, rousing Marvin from his thoughts. Eddie's dark blue car was sitting in front of him, Eddie standing, half out of the far door, with his usual grin. Jane was in the passenger seat, smiling politely, also as usual. Marvin got up, glancing at his watch and noting that Eddie was exactly on time, as he walked to Eddie's side and climbed into the back seat. Jane turned the music down from Eddie's near deafing levels, as he fell back into the driver's seat, closed the door, and took them back into the city. "Ready to eat, kiddo?"

"Yeah." Marvin said just over the music with a nod of his head.

Jane smiled back at him. "There are a couple of nice places on 20th. We're just going to which one is the least crowded."

Cowboy nodded. He knew the places and that part of town. There were a bunch of theme restaurants, places you could get a burger that were fancier than a McDainels, that were all basically the same, located a few blocks from one of the major city hospitals and a large shopping mall where Eddie would go hunting for his silly t-shirts. They'd probably feed him, and then take him to the mall for a few more hours of normal life. It always struck Marvin as odd that Jane and Eddie, particularly Eddie, could so easily turn back into civilian life. Eckardy, in the rare moments he had turned serious and talked about the bad times during the One Year War, had mentioned something about enjoying what he could and coping later. Maybe Cowboy could get him to talk about that more later, like once they got back to the ship...

Marvin pushed that thought to the back of his mind. Eddie and Jane were chatting as he drove them through the city. Talking about sports and movies and music, all other minor stuff like they really were civilans. It all seem odd to Marvin, but he paid attention, simply because he felt he should, and tried to make himself feel more like eating than he really did.

Ash had been quiet the whole walk to the ship's airlock, puzzling comments in his head. As they approached the ship, he reached into his coat pocket and pulled out his papers, ready to board - he turned to Wales:

"I guess we get to meet our new commander now. Probably be a good idea to stow our gear and then find him.... or her....."

He presented his papers at the air lock and boarded the ship, the turned and quietly asked Wales:

"What's a tank?"

Kou was checking the load out and mechanics of his new Nemo. The unit wasn't anything special, but still a far sight better than a Zaku or Gelgoog. He'd been stuck piloting an old Gelgoog at some back-water base that he'd been stuck at on his last tour of duty. They hadn't even been upgraded to Hi-Zack's, let alone anything newer. Fortunatly for him, Kou had kept his old Data from the GP project. While it would be difficult to match it with the Nemo's specs, he might be able to tune the machine a little better and stay alive a few seconds longer.

"But first," he muttered to himself, "Let's make sure it works....." as he pulled himself along the knee joints.

Wales thought about ash's suggestion while he pulled out his papers, trying to recall the proceedure from his brief tenure in the earth federation forces

"if memory serves me correct, we report to the captain first, he'll be on the bridge, then we go find the commanding officer for our squad, we can stow our gear afterwards that way we don't keep either waiting by searching high and low for our quarters." wales let ash present his papers first before doing the same when they were onboard ash floored him with another unexpected question

"What's a tank?"

Wales immedaitely started giggling trying very hard not to break out in full out laughter "Thats a good one..*Snigger*..'Whats a tank' *snigger* heheh....oh....you were serious...sorry bout that" he mentally slapped himself remembering that not everyone in the AEUG had a military background, or were born on earth for that matter "um..a tank...how to describe it...." he mused, scratching his head "hang on a sec." he opened his duffel bag and began rummaging through it "nope, not that, not that either, don't know what that is, ah here we are!" he pulled out a collection of photos, flicking through each one till he found the picture he was looking for, whipping it out and handing it to ash, depicted on said photo was a Type 61...with half a dozen soldiers engaging in d**khead behavior gathered around it, one of them riding one the tanks cannons like it was a bull

Re: Episode 22 - Capitalize [4th]

- Amman –

It was an understatement to say the port was busy. It was closer to a chaotic state where a large number of people and vehicle, big or small trying to move from one place to another. People in uniforms, jackets, or civilians clothing were crowding everywhere. Most of them were checking personnel, unloading equipments or just talking to each other. It was almost an ironic that most of them were part of the military who proud itself on its discipline.

And there she was together with many other inside the crowd. Irene was clad in long blue skirt and a clean white shirt trying to make her way into her ship. “It was the Hamburg, wasn’t it?” She asked herself while adjusting her glasses that slipped from her nose. Quickly she marched again with a suitcase in her right hand and a small lady bag across her left shoulder.

“Oohhh….” She protested to herself after realizing she was heading in the wrong direction.

The soldier who she just talked earlier pointed his finger toward a ship just outside the window exclaiming, “Ma’am you are actually heading into the New Yark. See the white texts under the belly numbers? Yup, that is the New Yark! The Hamburg is that way,” pointing at another direction. He putted down his finished cigarette into an ashtray, twisting its butt against the metal surface and said in a frankly manner, “It’s still further down from here. Gonna be quite an effort to find a way through all those crowd. Do you need someone to help you out?”

She kindly refused the offer, thanked the soldier and walked away from the checkpoint. After some walking and asking Irene found herself aboard the Hamburg for the very first time. She gained access after presenting her ID card to the guard who somehow seemed a little curious about her attire. With ease she passed the ship’s narrow corridors, making her way toward the Salamis Kai’s bridge.

- Hamburg -

She saluted the captain as she entered the bridge. “Lieutenant Irene Kawamura from the Karaba, sir.” She cannot helped but to smiled a bit after seeing the bridge crew all together looking at her for a brief moment. Despite the light-dark lenses on her glasses she could still saw clearly the crew’s attention at her. Not that she need it, her senses were already sharp enough for that kind of thing. “eh, requesting permission to board the ship.”

Luckily for the two pilots propping Jacob up, his loud warning and motions were warning enough and they backed up to avoid his spectacular eruption. Michiko pulled her feet away a little further with an 'eep' as they did their best to stay away until he was done. The whole scene only made Celeine laugh harder. "Watch your step," Celeste said, taking Jacob by the arm again to guide him past his vomit to the open hatch. "Oh, Jacob, we're going to need a fire hose to clean you up..." Michiko said as she kept him from tripping on the way into the ship.

Capt. Abbey nodded at the image of Capt. Guanche. "Good. We'll round everybody up around 1400 tomorrow then. Let 'em eat before we pounce with all this stuff. We'll have plenty of time to review on the way," he said with a smile, although he knew his pilots and crew wouldn't find the idea quite as amusing. "That's perfectly acceptable, sir. I'm not terribly excited about reporting in bright and early tomorrow either," the bespectacled captain of the New Yark responded with one of his rare grins. Abbey chuckled, "If you think you're going to find all of your pilots back, awake and ready to go before noon tomorrow you're crazy, Chris,".

"Yes, sir. More like the hung over walking dead. The ones that have come back on time," Guanche replied.

“Lieutenant Irene Kawamura from the Karaba, sir... eh, requesting permission to board the ship," the new pilot announced herself. Stalvern and the other operators manning the bridge had been sneaking glances at her since she walked in, but when Capt. Loweno turned around from the windows he instantly brightened up with a large grin. "Maximilian Gates, you're a saint," he muttered under his breath as he strode over to meet her, straightening his cap. "Permission granted, lieutenant! Welcome to the Hamburg. I'm Capt. Loweno - call me André," he introduced himself, even deliberately bringing out the barest hint of his long gone French accent.

That elicited a sharp laugh from Lt. Stalvern that the XO hadn't managed to contain. He made as if it was a cough and raised a hand to cover his mouth. "Well, Lt. Kawamura, it's good to see I'm getting the top quality replacements I requested. I'm sure you can find an empty pilot quarters where Emington and Izuruha's cabins are. If you need any help just call me," Loweno said, irritatedly ignoring his assistant.

- Crew's Quarters -

As the elevator door opens up, Bernard takes a last look back and noticed that the hallway was empty. He swings his head back forward to see no one there causing himself to palm his face in disgust. Hallucinating already? I gotta get a grip..

He makes a mental note to up his dosage before remembering something. Bernard hasn't seen Al since the last battle, even he wasn't in great shape but he avoided seeing the kid in the infirmary for fear of breaking down. Bernard pulls out a letter from his chest pocket as he walks over to Al's quarters and attached it to the door and backs away.
The letter itself is nothing special nor does it have any deep meaning. It only states that Bernard was impressed by the youth's skills in combat and that he was honored piloting along side him. And when this is all over, to stay away from from mobile suits for the rest of his life. Not to get burnt out by others' conflicts and to go search for his friend in the picture that he keeps close to him.

Walking back to the elevator, Bernard takes a last look at the empty area which was home for a few months. Pushing the call button he closes his eyes and hopes that the next ship doesn't chew up its pilots as fast as this one.

“ahaha…” Irene was certainly blown away by the reception she received from the captain and crew. Even her cheek already gave in and expressed a faint sign of blushing. She let out a candid laughter while nodding several time trying to hide her wide grin between her lips.

“It’s an honour to meet you sir. I… heard good things about you.” That’s the best quick reply Irene could offer. It was of course a courtesy lie just to get things get going. The truth was she never really heard much about her new Captain, but after seeing him in person she thought he seemed like a capable person despite his unconventional style. She decided to just laugh it out. Besides she didn’t want to disappoint her new Captain.

“Well then, it would be best for me to get underway as quickly as possible. I’m sure you are busy with all the things happening outside,” Irene said after the laughter had subsided. She gave a courteous nod to Lt. Stalvern and addressed Captain Loweno, also waving her hand to the crew before leaving the bridge.

It took her about 2 minutes or more before she arrived at her quarter. Entering the room she felt immediate grateful to the previous owner or maybe the crew who kept the room clean. Satisfied with her room Irene quickly turned the light on and adjusted it slightly, making it on the dimmest setting. Only then she was able to see freely without her glasses which now she placed on a table beside the bed.

Off with her glasses she quickly unpacked her belongings from her suitcase. Halfway trough with it, she felt tired. Lying down on the bed and seeing the dull grey metal as roof, Irene found herself asking whether this was the correct decision.

With the ladies' help, Jacob managed to get into the ship without falling in his own sick. Apparently, he was still certain that they were somewhere that lacked gravity as he lurched toward a nearby gripper.

Between Michiko and Celeste, they managed to keep him away and move him down the halls.

"Where're we gonna find a hose?" he asked.

They got him to his room and he started to undress, though fortunately for them all, he couldn't focus much and only got halfway done with anything before moving on to something different. So, he had off one shoe, his shirt was off one arm and his head, though it still hung from his other arm and his pants were unbuckled but not pushed down.

"I'm sleepy," he whined as he collapsed on his bed. "And I want nachos."

The words were hardly out of his mouth before he started to snore heavily.
Yep...That's Texas in a nutshell. Why just say "f**k you" when you can put it on a flag?

Re: Episode 22 - Capitalize [4th]

-Amman-

It was called Erik's. It was a typical theme restaurant, although less garish than most in it's decorating. They weren't as big or widespread as a place like McDainels, but Marvin knew the chain. Eddie said he'd worked as a busboy in one as a teen in Side 2, and the timing of their arrival had worked out nicely, getting seated and ordering their food just before the dinner rush really began. The place offered just about anything, so they'd all ordered whatever meal they'd wanted, and Eddie had added onto that a pizza that was more for him to take home than anything else. It had been pretty peaceful, and the fact Eddie had worked in one before had gotten him started on his stories from almost the moment they had sat down.

"So McKenna is just laying there, head on one barrel, feet on the other, holding the bottle in his lap," Eddie said, pausing to take a sip of his soda as he worked up to the end of a story both Marvin and Jane had probably heard at one point or another, but long since forgotten. "When Welchel comes flyin' outta the turret, sees me laughing my ass off, and starts screamin' and cursin' and chasing me around the friggin' lager!" He grinned at his own past misfortune. Jane laughed quietly, the only way she seemed to, to Cowboy, who let out a few quiet chuckles of his own. The story, like most of the others, had been pretty funny, but he seemed to have to force himself to laugh at a story he knew he'd enjoyed in the past.

Eddie finished the story. "I end up leadin' us back to the tank, and Welch finally sees McKenna sittin' there, and turns about as red as that napkin," Eddie said, nodding toward Marvin's napkin, "And just climbs up, grabs the vodka, and goes goes back into the turret, muttering every curse in the universe at me, McKenna, our mothers, the tank, everything." He paused to finish the last bit of food on his plate, waving a hand for a waiter.

"So what happened after that." Marvin asked, quiet but polite, which just didn't sound right to himself.

"Eh, not much." Eddie said quickly as the waiter came over. "He got over it and we all ended up playin' poker or some s*** like that." He turned to the waiter. "Can we get a box for the pizza, and uh, you two want to take anything?"

Neither did, but they waited in the restaurant a few more minutes, letting their food settle and finishing their drinks before they left. Marvin again sat in the back, the pizza on the floor next to him, but noticed that as Eddie got in the car, he had a frown on his face, and an odd look in his eyes. That was unusual enough to instantly get him on guard. "What's going on?"

Eddie looked out the side window for a moment, before he turned the car on and turned sideways in the seat to back out of the parking spot, making him almost face to face with Marvin. "We're gonna go see Ian."

Hamilton felt his mouth go dry and open slightly. Eddie put the car in drive and started to leave the parking lot without another word. The only sounds were from the car, the world outside, and Eddie's music, which was slightly quiter than usual. Marvin merely noted that all the sounds were present, but didn't actually pay attention to any of them.

The trip took only a few minutes, for the hospital was only a couple of blocks over. Mercy Medical, Marvin noted as they pulled into the parking lot. He'd never been there before. Eddie found a parking spot near one of the entrances, and they went in.

There was a short line ahead of them of other visitors trying to gets in. Eddie and Jane exchanged a few quick, nervous glances before it was finally their turn. They had their pictures taken for the visitor's passes, which were basically just white strips of tape, and the nurse on station told them were Ian's room was. He'd been out of surgery for a few hours, condition stable, but the nurse wasn't sure whether he'd be awake. Nods and thank yous were given, and the trio went to the elevators.

The trip to Ian's room was made without comment. Eddie tried to smile, but even he couldn't pull one off now. Cowboy was already pale and looked as if the dinner they had just eaten was about to come back on him. Jane had a serious expression, but forced a polite smile as they reached the door. Eddie took a deep breath, not noticing that Marvin did the same, and walked into the room.

It wasn't as bad as Eddie had expected it to be. Ian had clean bandages on his face, which was the only place they were visible. His leg was in a case, which nearly hid the fact that his foot was gone. He was a little grey, and they had cut his hair shorter than any of them had ever seen him wear it. It all combined with the pale blue hospital gown to make him look like another person.

His eyes tracked them as they entered. His reaction was slightly slowed, he speech a tad slurred, but he made a half smile. "Heey, guysss."

Eddie obviously forced a smile, Jane managed better. Marvin mainly stared at the floor. "Uh hey man, how the hell ya feel?" Eddie asked, trying to sound normal, but falling just short.

"Beenn better." Greydon said with a chuckle that sounded more like a sigh. "No painn... oooor anything like that." His eyes half closed, but he kept the smile on the unbandaged side of his face. "How 'bout you?"

"Alright." Eddie and Jane said at the same time, prompting a glance and slight grin, a real one, from the couple. Jane spoke next, "We just came by to see you while we had the chance. Anything we can get or do for you?"

Greydon slowly shook his head. It seemed as if the effort drained him. "Naaah. It's uh..." He took a breath, "...It's just nice to see ya." He said quickly, turning slightly to look at Marvin, who still stood near the door, staring at the floor. Ian took another deep breath. "Marvin," he breathed.

The young man looked up, holding back tears, and croacked out a single word. "Hey."

"Howw are youu doin', kid?", He asked, his smile fading slightly. Marvin merely shrugged, which prompted Ian to frown. "Heeyy... don't let this... uh..." Ian closed his eyes as he took another deep breath. The drugs were making him sleepy, and slowing his mind down a bit, but he was aware enough to know that he wanted, needed almost, to talk to Marvin this way. "...Don't let this crap bug ya. It's nooot... that bad."

Marvin, looking at the floor again, shook his head. He tried to say something, but his voice finally cracked and tears started running down his face as he let out a few quiet sobs.

Ian smiled. "Heeeyyy." He said in as gentle and quiet a voice as he could manage. "Marrrvin, you cann't let this stuff eat yoou up all the... all the time. It'll get better eventually..." His voice trailed off slightly. Ian let off a sigh and closed his eyes. "I'm sorry... Needed to get that off my chest."

Jane and Eddie, who had just watched silently, nodded, while the latter spoke up. "...Yeah, it's alright. Look, uh..." He rubbed at the back of his neck. "You want to get some sleep?"

Ian nodded his head once and managed another weak half-grin. "Been a long day."

Eddie and Jane both nodded and quickly said their good byes. Marvin was still sobbing slightly. They took him gently by the shoulders and started him into the hall, when Ian's voice called. "Ed..."

Eddie glanced back. "One sec." He said to Jane, who took Marvin into the hall. He took a few deep breaths and started wiping his face with the sleeve of his jacket. Jane glanced around, looking for a tissue or something better, but couldn't find one. Eddie returned a minute later, smiling weakly. "Alright." He sighed. "Lets go home."

By the time they reached the elevator, Marvin had gotten control of himself. By the time they were back on the ground floor, other than one or two quick, quiet sobs, and the obvious red eyes, he was under control, his face an emotionless mask. He was the first one off the elevator, giving Eddie and Jane a moment to glance at each other, prompting him to sigh and her to shrug slightly. Nobody said a word as they returned to the elecar, got in, and started back to the apartment complex.

Seeing that the conversation that Abbey was having with the other ship captains was wrapping up, Adam perked up. He hadn't exactly been listening in, it was mostly banal conversation between the top brass of the fleet, but he had heard worry in the last part and if the brass were worried, he felt justified to be the same. Noticing that no-one was paying attention he grabbed his bag and quietly slipped out, not really having a reason to stick around.

Riding the elevator down to the main decks, he checked out his assignment sheet that he had received with his transfer orders. He would be the Executive Officer of the ship's Team 3 and it was commanded by a Lt.(JG) Archer. Thinking he should probably meet his new CO, he resolved to make an effort to find him.

Hearing some commotion down the hall, Randy left his room and noticed that Trask's old room had been reoccupied. Heading to the door, he keyed the chime, curious as to who this person was.
