I assumed when I read that that the transformation was not actually a proper transformation, but something which would require a specially equipped hangar, like fitting the Huckebein Mk. III into the Boxer Frame.
EDIT: I just remembered that the Union Flag stores its rifle on a chest hardpoint when in flight mode. Perhaps the trick to transforming in midair is that normal pilots have to sacrifice their rifles in order to do so, but this ace dude can catch the rifle out of midair before it falls to the ground.
Second, on your edit point, that wouldn't make much sense. By that reasoning, the MS would never transform unless piloted by an elite pilot, as the rifle would always drop and break on the ground. Which defeats the purpose of transforming if the first time you did it you destroyed your one and only long range weapon.
The speculation idea was that transforming is rare in combat, as it would provide a wide-ish window of absolute vulnerability. The idea of the ace pilot was that he would be able to skillfully transform in combat without getting shot down.

No, dropping your weapon wouldn't mean you couldn't transform at all... it would just mean that you would ordinarily have to do on the ground.
I will concede, however, that the basis for my side of the discussion was apparently based on baseless speculation, leaving my speculation also baseless. We'll just have to wait to see the series, I suppose.

Photos of the HCM Pro Kyrios model show how it transforms:

What about the Exia's quartet of beam-bladed weapons? But anyway, that transformation doesn't look right for some reason.
Edits - I haven't heard of the Kyrios having one before either, though I don't think that one would be tossed in just for the kit's sake. But we're not here to talk about the kit.

I thought it was confirmed a while back from some little figurines that all four of the Gundams have beam sabers... There was a pic... I remember that I was surprised to see a picture of Dynames with a beam saber, and Virtue had one too... It came up during the whole "does Virtue have a beam saber?!?!?" fight.

Oh, I was mostly noting to myself about that kit thing. I do recall there being posted a large scan of the Kyrios that included a few views of its transformed mode, and from the little I can recall the HCM's one seems off (for example, I think it was noted that the arms folded into the shoulders). I also remember the part with the Virtue, but haven't with the Kyrios. I must have missed that in the last thread.
Anyway, you can see the handle for the machine gun there being removable, which I suppose makes sense to mount in onto the arm.

Wow, that is a very simple transformation. We can safely say that it resembles the Wing more than the Zeta in that regard. The underbelly shot really shows of how simple it is. Heck, the arms, head, and torso don't even move.
Because Kyrios is a high mobility, general purpose mobile suit, it only makes sense in my mind that it have a beam saber. And if these pics are accurate to the animation and Kyrios' specs then I think it must be said that there is finally a RED BEAM SABER!!! Kyrios' cool factor just jumped ten fold for me.

Did anyone notice what I can only assume is either GN-004 or the prototype Gundam, at the beginning of the first ep of 00?
In the opening section when young Setsuna is looking up at it, its a simpler, more general and less specialised design that's noticeably different from the other four.
It almost has an RX-78 feel to it... almost...

I also think it has head vulcans, if the pics on MAHQ aren't fooling me. I can see a barrel on the upper cheek, just a bit back from the Gundam's eye cameras.VentZX wrote:Because Kyrios is a high mobility, general purpose mobile suit, it only makes sense in my mind that it have a beam saber. ^Like a GN-equipped RX-78 Gundam
Pretty good first-impression of how the mobile suits performed. While all of the units have melee weapons here's to hoping all of them won't have to use that----I like the teamwork involved.
Question---sonic blade---it uses sound to cut things?

The shoulders, skirt armor, arms, and beam sabers of the RX-78 lookalike also appear to be essentially identical to the original design. torso, beam rifle, and shield are really the only elements of the design that are altered... oh, that and it has wings of light... Somebody loves their sparkly effects.

Sonic doesn't nessicarily mean sound.
Sound is cause by vibration, so I beleive that this is a high capacity vibroblade. Like the electric toothbrush, only coupled with a blade rather than a set of bristles. It's very viable technology, that in real world aplication is far more feasable than a beam or heat saber. Honestly, I'm surprised it's taken them this long to make one.

It probably uses high-speed vibrations to increase the blade's cutting power. Similar weapons exist in Star Wars, so the concept isn't unheard of, and I think the Zamza-Zah's claws were similar in operation.SNT1 wrote:Question---sonic blade---it uses sound to cut things?
The sound waves are probably just a side effect that's only noticable because the spectators aren't in mobile suits or behind any significant cover.
REGENE: (Grins) Any last words, Buuuuur-ing?
(Bring just grits his teeth and the Garazzo’s escape pod breaks off from its main body, flying straight up.)
REGENE: (Shakes head) Right then. Forgot we don’t talk on Planet You.
