If I recall correctly, "sports" in the common vernacular were seen in SD Gundam...?
But then again, SD Gundam is a parody in general, so it may not count with the answer y'all are looking for.

If mobile suits are bought by rich enthusiasts, what do they use them for?
Maybe they engage in mock mobile suit battles like those mock dog-fighter
training camps.

Cross-country rally races, with AI-controlled targets that have to be engaged at every checkpoint. Sustained-flight & ground-effect capabilities not allowed (or severely restricted).

Urrr...Metal hockey sticks? Or beam version? I'm sure the goal keeper wears extra body armour. So is this where the FAZZ comes in?

Mobile Suit Shooting Sport. Instead of equipping a target system for a MS, it should not feature this capability. Then, ordinary bullets will be replaced in the ammo of MS rifles, which will test the pilot's mobile suit manuevering skill & accuracy in hitting a target.

At least it's fun having that kind of sport. Best of all, it's not costly and open for everybody, just like having war games.

I dont know if beam sticks would be a great idea; If someone comitted 'hooking' they could really mess the other pilot up. I mean really bad

*Oof!* The GM Rider sure is on water
Although, that board, for anyone who has surfed looks about way too narrow to stay afloat to be viable. Snowboarding would be great with it, with a bottle of EXTREME Mountain Dew, just to make it more sportsy, and extreme. Two things the world needs more.
