If ever man will never learn from this X-9 program, history will repeat itself.

Fighter and Battleroid modes I familiar with, its the Gerwalk mode I'm intrested it in. What was the purpose of that mode and did it have any advantages over the other two modes?

Actually, I would rather say "History teaches us that we never lean from history."

Gerwalk will give the fighter VTOL. At the same time, It also allows high-speed attack. I remember Rick sweep down in the figher mode, change into a Gerwalk, speed across the martian plane, and change into a battloid for close combat. Afterall, they have no in-line skates.

Harrier has this tactic call 'VIFFing". They turn the exhauest to have a drastic slow down, allowing the enemy fighter to over shoot. Gerwalk can do such thing as well.

Some of the best combat was in Mospeda, where there was a mad combination of Gerwalk and Battloid transformation to defeat the emeny.

Think of it this way.
Batroid = ground force
Gerwalk = helicopter
Fighter = ...as name implied :P

Off topic: In SRW series, Gerwalk allow the VF to hover on water-surface.

My favorite Veritech fighter would have to be the VF-1S Strike Valkyrie. It came with a ton of payload of weapons ranging from several different types of missiles plus beam cannons. And get this, the VF-1S Strike Valkyrie also comes with optional RMS-1 NUCLEAR CRUISE MISSILES! Thats right, it comes with optional nuclear missiles!

Save the aces for critical situations requiring human judgment, and leave the routine stuff to the mass-produced AI-operated drones. Besides, if you start to run low on unmanned vehicles, just head to the nearest solar system, look for a convenient asteroid, and start cranking out new ones!
Remote fighters would also be possible, then you could still have humans in the picture, but they would be able to perform pilot killing maneuvers from the safety of the ship.

Gundam Seed did provide an answer. Clonning.

The problem with remote control is time lag. You need split second control. That's why current remote vehicles are more subdue, like in reccon uses.

Well, I guess that's right for most cases too.

Remote control fighters can also be used as a part of the mother vehicle, like an extension of a certain weapon (remote missle podsl). As for the lag, maybe technology will find a way to improve the transmission, so as to prevent lag.

There is NO way to increase the speed of radio waves to control to remote vehicles. So that will be a fixed problems. That's why AI is considered for space exploration.

Unless you can contol using psychoms, tachyon, diemsion crystals, or any FTL method, the lag time will always be a problem.

What about the Robotech Live action Movie coming out?! You just know that it will be based on the Macross series (the first one anyway).

There are no new updates regarding the live action, but it will surely be based on the original Macross series.

For remote control units, the speed of radio waves can't be increased, but through additionnal transmitters equipped, its response to certain units with transmitters like that will improve, esp. with Valkyries that have remote weapons (ex : wired gunbarrels from Gundam)

I heard that one is in the works. A Voltron Movie as well.

Hopefully, things will go on smoothly in this live action project. :D

For another tech topic, what if Valkyries are equipped with shot lancers of Gundam F91? Will the missle dogfights end here? (a tough question)

We might already saw that if Air Cavalry wasn't convert into Escaflowne.

A helicopter rotor in a mech, quite similar to V Gundam's BESPA units.
Well, if that will be equipped in a Valkyrie, it will be a jet-copter, aside from being a range + melee mech. :D

I serious hope it doesn't and doubt it will happen, the only possible function shotlancers could serve would be close combat and killing a pilot without explosions. While the first might seem like a good reason remember that the Macross/Robotech Universes still maintain RADAR meaning the U.N. Spacey can still engage enemies well outside of visual range; mecha only have melee weapons if the situation requires it, otherwise you're wasting materials that could go to a better purpose.

That will be a good point, but still it can help some pilots of Valkyries to survive extreme conditions in close combat. :)

although many consider macross 2 as a flunk (but i found it to be a really interesting, albeit alternative, macross story), the VFs in that series were quite good. i remember during space battle scenes, the VF-2SS had these bit-like weapons deployed around them for additional firepower. although it would sound a bit like copying from gundam, i think it's a good addition to a VF's range of armaments. they already have unmanned fighters in macross plus, so why not use the technology for the bit weapons?

also, another great VF, the VF-1MS Metal Siren almost seems like it's at par with macross plus VFs - very good maneouverability, a very decent arsenal, melee weaponry (the "spike" on it's nosecone that becomes like an arm "bayonet") and IIRC, something like a Barrier Breakdown / EMP weapon too! (not sure if it has pin-point barrier though) all it needs is a fold booster! :D

Not to mention the span of the timeline between Macross Plus & Macross II will greatly change the technology. :) If ever, why don't Valkyries featured a saber just like Gundam :D
