with the recent announcement that Blood+ will air on adult swim on march 10th, i started wondering, with the recent number of new licensed anime, which ones do you guys think will make it to adult swim and which ones will be runaway successes
for me if they put haruhi suzumiya on adult swim, it'll be a huge success
black lagoon...well...it would be great on adult swim but they'd have to edit it heavily...especially the language...
even though full metal panic isnt new, with the recent licensing of the second raid, this would be the perfect time to put the original FMP on adult swim. ive always believed that FMP would be perfect on adultswim
right now, thats the only ones i think will be successes
what do you guys think?

I'll go with Haruhi, probably because I'm biased and want to see in on American TV. I do however think it will be a success, though I don't know much about Haruhi, from waht I've read on these forums it sounds like it may have the necessary components to make it successful, but others have had that before and failed *cough* MSG *cough*

i'd go with deathnote here..
deathnote's story is quite impressive and its animation is quite interesting to watch. (even though some of the scenes are a bit morbid) This is a good anime and i recommend people to watch it.
Oh yeah btw. there is also a live-action movie of it. played by actors from japan. the movie was released around november or december of last year. (cg graphics and robotics of the shini-gami is really great).Try to watch it ^^
if i can have a second vote.ill pick FMP:TSR
i watched this on the WOWOW channel of Japan about september-october of last year. it was quite good. and fun to watch. (esp. if you want to see mechs beat the hell out of each other). Arbalest now rocks a lot better from FMP! (oh yeah. i recommend you watch this UNEDITED. there are plenty of nude scenes here and i dont know if CN will edit it.)

Oh wow, Haruhi's the only one on that list I've seen (though I very much want to see FMP and Death Note - the rest I've never heard of).
Regardless, it won't matter much to me what ends up on Adult Swim, as I don't really watch it (or much TV in general, really) anymore. I do know that if/when Haruhi comes to the US, though, I'll be saving up for any DVD releases thereof.

I have a gut feeling that it will be either The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya or Death Note - or both. Personally, I prefer Black Lagoon over both of those shows, but I think its popularity pales in comparison. Of course, maybe all the comparisons to Cowboy Bebop (much of it unjustified) it's getting could attract a fairly large western audience.

I can't see a cerebral, referencial comedy like Haruhi functioning too well on a programming block aimed at violence junkies, stoners, and fans of slapstick fart gags. I just don't. It lacks the "zaniness" of FLCL, which was the only reason Adult Swim viewers liked it (yeah, all that parody and genius coming-of-age message? No...all went right over their heads), it lacks the big fighting or tortured gothic dark setting of a Bleach or a Trinity Blood, respectively (it also doesn't suck a giant...well, y'know...like Trinity Blood), and it requires thinking, which irritated the average Adult Swim viewer with Evangelion and Big O.
It may work for us, being that we have two brain cells to rub together and a whole lot of knowledge about the exact Japanese pop culture Haruhi riffs on left and right, but it'll all amount to nothing for the average Adult Swim viewer, fresh off getting a dimwitted laugh at moronic crap like that Tim & Eric Show they just debuted.
My vote for shows on this poll (though personally, I don't think this thread needs a poll, as it limits choices too much...no consideration for Rozen Maiden?) splits three ways between Witchblade, Black Lagoon, and Death Note. Death Note's the big, popular Shounen Jump title that all the Bleached Narutard drones will eat up hand over fist, so it's just a natural choice. Witchblade is moronic, violent, fanservicey, and sports the same gag-inducing "dark" aesthetics that make garbage like Trinity Blood a ratings winner, so it'd be a good choice, horrible though it may be. And Black Lagoon, despite having an impressive intelligence to it that not many people really pick up on (hey, just like FLCL!), does deliver with the sort of guns a'blazing violence that Adult Swim viewers tend to take to. Plus, several episodes do ring of Cowboy Bebop in feel. They honestly couldn't go wrong with it, and it'd be one of the few sure winners for them that's actually good.
Black Cat, thankfully, will sooner go to that FUNimation Channel that I don't get, same with Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid. I don't think Adult Swim wants to muck with coordinating two licensors over one show, after all. And Air Gear's a non-entity. We'd sooner see a non-poll option like Chevalier d'Eon (I wish!) or the aforementioned Rozen Maiden before we saw it.
Just my two cents.

well with regards to what he said about big o being a failure because it made viewers think. well u cant forget GITS: SAC...i mean sure it had its share of violence but it had alot of thinking in. it was good enuf to warrant the licensing of the 2nd season. i wouldnt be surprised if death note made it either.
EDIT: Can you start doing stuff like using punctuation and capitalization and obeying the grammatical rules of the English language in your posts? It's extremely annoying.
Thanks.

I also think that BL has the strongest money-shot, especially if FMP:TSR is going on without the support of the original series (or Fumoffu for that matter!) still in memory. Given the guns, blood and Revy's, um, attributes, BL has a lot going for it. I don't know what the standard for editing is, but the drawback with BL is potential heavy editing (as someone already mentioned).
Haruhi is funny enough, but it is also slightly too different, in the worst case putting off people rather quick. Given the publicity that DN has already got it can dish out in live, manga, anime, or generally fitting setting as Nagi described. It terms of pure commercialism it should be DN, hands down.

Bandai licensed 2nd Gig based on DVD sales, not the Adult Swim TV run. Its first season succeeded on Adult Swim because it was both violent, and paired back-to-back with a sure-fire winner in Fullmetal Alchemist. 2nd Gig bombed badly, though, since it largely lacked Fullmetal's support, it had a more meticulous pace to it, and people expected to not understand it this time and steered clear.WingZero20xx wrote:well with regards to what he said about big o being a failure because it made viewers think. well u cant forget GITS: SAC...i mean sure it had its share of violence but it had alot of thinking in. it was good enuf to warrant the licensing of the 2nd season. i wouldnt be surprised if death note made it either.

fair enuf nagi, u make a good point. and with regards to FMP. what i meant was that since they just licensed TSR, it'd be a great oppurtunity to give the original FMP to adult swim, let them air that, then fumoffu, then TSR right afterwards. i fully believe that FMP will be a success on adult swim. and especially as a mecha anime, i mean we havent had a good success in mecha since blue gender and gundam 0083. i havent forgotten evangelion but i dont think it was a runaway hit on adultswim. its too confusing for adult swim fans lol. what other recently licensed shows do you guys think would make it on adultswim?

That's kind of the trick, though. In order to do that, Adult Swim have to negotiate with two separate licensors in order to air all three. They have to deal with ADV for Full Metal Panic! and Fumoffu, and then deal with FUNimation for The Second Raid. On the other hand, they only have to negotiate with one licensor to get both seasons of Black Lagoon or all three of Rozen Maiden's current incarnations. Makes the process much simpler, which would in turn make those two shows more enticing than Full Metal Panic!, with its licenses spread out.WingZero20xx wrote:what i meant was that since they just licensed TSR, it'd be a great oppurtunity to give the original FMP to adult swim, let them air that, then fumoffu, then TSR right afterwards.

Deathnote without a question. It's morbid, it's gothic, it's about freaking diaries: It's the animated show for which the Emo kiddies have been carving pentagrams into their wrists in an act of pagan procrastination. Every guy and girl who has ever taken a ridiculously angled photo of themselves for use on myspace would lap up Deathnote. If they haven't already seen it and written up a review for their poetry-filled livejournal.

I myself have only seen three episodes of Haruhi. However, despite that I immidiately fell in love with the series after watching them. Unfortunetly, my first thought on the matter was pretty much what Nagi described. It just wouldn't work too well on Adult swim.
That said, from what I've heard about death note, Blood+ and Black lagoon, I'd say that they'd do the best out of all of them. Full metal Panic would do good, except they've never shown the first season and I don't know how well starting things off with the second would go over with American viewers who've never seen the show.
As for the others... well, I can't say too much about, since i've never even heard of them before.
