Round 1, Fight 3: Neo Egypt vs. Neo Australia

THIRD GUNDAM FIGHT
ROUND 1, FIGHT 3
NEO EGYPT vs. NEO AUSTRALIA

- Nebraska -

December 2nd, FC 16

It was fast approaching afternoon in this rural cornfield in Nebraska. There was a chill in the December air; it was clear that winter approached.

What also approached, of course, was the third scheduled Gundam Fight finals match.

This particular match had no boundaries, as there was nothing but endless flat cornfield in all directions, with pretty much nothing to destroy. What few spectators bothered to come all this way - mostly devoted citizens of Neo Egypt and Neo Australia, with a smattering of local Americans with enough time on their hands - were suspended in airships to get a good view without risking the possibility that they might get a little too involved in the chaos.

An announcer came over their loudspeakers.

"Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the third match of the first round of this historic tournament.

"The contenders for this fight will be Seth Mukantagara in the Gundam Osiris, representing Neo Egypt..."

Applause broke out from those supporting Seth in this fight. Unlike in the Madison Square Neo-Garden fight yesterday, though, there wasn't quite the same energy. Being in airships watching from screens wasn't quite as electric as being a crowd in the stands watching a live fight up close. Nonetheless, Neo Egyptian flags were waved, and the fans and people voiced their support in earnest.

"... and Blade Dundee in the Outback Gundam, representing Neo Australia!"

Cheers and applause from those supporting Blade. Neo Australian flags were waved. The fans did their level best to outdo the Neo Egyptian show of support.

The stage was set. All that was needed was for the Gundam Fighters to signal their readiness, and for the referee to signal that the fight had begun.

OOC: Alright then, this should be the last one running simultaneously for now.

The Seth Gundam walked in from the east with the sun to its back, though the winter cloudy skies did good to cover it well. This was the type of environment the Gundam Osiris feared; well, more it's pilot than the mobile suit.

The flat land was perfect... but the weather. It was cold, too cold to cause the unit to gather enough heat. However, it was a corn field... he would be able to improvise, if only a little bit. After all, such cold times need a nice fire going to keep one warm... he'd just have to start one.

Seth stood with his cockpit hatch open, surveying the cornfield. Blowing into his hands he could see his own breath, rubbing his hands together for warmth. He didn't like cold environments and neither did his Gundam, but if it was for Neo Egypt he'd have to win.

"Seth! Neo Australia's Outback Gundam has a definite long range advantage over you. Based on these stats we've been able to form, it should be an even match aside from that. Though we may be hindered by the cold, use the cornfield to your advantage... set it ablaze to get enough heat going." Isis said over the com link.

"I got'cha. Let's get this started." Seth said with a grin. Sliding down into the cockpit, the hatch closed as the systems turned on.

The Osiris was turned off from its auto-pilot mode as Seth took over. Stretching out his limbs for the battle about to begin, the Osiris seemed to follow his movements while stretching, putting on a little show for the spectators. When he was done it stood up, ready to begin. Putting its hands to its sides it would detach the Shotels from its sides, holding them in their folded up inactive state.

The Osiris steamed from its vents, as a signal that it was prepared. "Let's guide this pilot and his gundam to the afterlife, eh' Osiris?" Seth said with a grin, lowering into a stance.

The Outback steps into its designated starting position.

“Hey Blade, doncha worry. This bloke is outta his arena. `Sis too cold for `im to do any of his fancy pansy stuff. Jus’ put a few `oles in `im and be done wit it.”

“Got it, sir!”

Blade feels a bit out of his area as well, he grew up on a ranch in the Northern Territories. It’s supposed to be Spring, going into Summer, not the end of Autumn. The environmental systems are even having a hard time keeping it warm in the cockpit.

“This bloody cold…”

The Outback seems to shiver a bit along with Dundee.

The Neo American referee couldn't help but chuckle a bit at the Neo Austrailian who was decidely out of his normal climate as it looked as if his Gundam was shivering with the cold.
"Guess they both are out of their normal climate here in the cold. This aussie would freak if he had to fight in the Alaskan arena. Though it seems the Egyptian seems to be adapting well to the cold."
Seeing that both Gundams were in their designated starting positions was Rob's cue to start the match.
'Well then, I guess it's time to see if they can fight well enough in the cold.'

"Right. Let's begin." Seth said, crouching into a lower position.

The leg thrusters of the Seth would seem to draw in the air around them before igniting, sending the Osiris forwards on a linear path towards the Outback Gundam. It would be noted that its back thrusters had yet to be engaged; instead, it began to sway side to side in a slow zig zag pattern with its leg thrusters on full burn, leaving a trail of burning cornfield behind him as the thrusters would set the ground ablaze.

This task completed, the blades on the Shotels would swing down into their active state as the Seth began charging in from the side. The distance was closed about half-way now; as long as he kept up a non-linear path towards the Outback it would have a hard time picking up on his trail with the rifle. Just as Seth moved, he was calculating, planning, thinking ahead... his hawk-like eyes never left that of his opponents as he zeroed in on the enemy.

However, unlike a hawk being shot by a hunter, this hawk was planning on catching its mid-afternoon meal between its talons...

Obviously, this pilot thinks he is sneaky, using thrusters for higher speed, while zigzagging to keep Blade from lining up a clear shot. His problem is his arrogance. Balancing on leg thrusters alone is like balancing on rollerblades or ice skates. That means that you have to shift your weight in order to turn, which means that you have to know when to turn. Not too good for surprises, no surree.

Leveling his bolt-action, he engages the sight and tracks him for 2 turns in his zigzag. On the 3rd, he squeezes off a round right as Seth starts to shift his weight for the next direction change. If the pilot tries to cut out of it, he’ll probably trip up and all to his (Seth’s) left, towards the outside of his turn. If he tries to cut inward to avoid the shot, he risks cutting to much and having his feet slide out from under him, resulting in him falling inward, to his right.

Now, not waiting to see the fruits of his shot, he lowers the barrel of his rifle, keeping his eyes on the Gundam Osiris, while his trigger hand slides up the side of the gun to catching the ball of the bolt handle in the palm of the Outback Gundam’s hand and smoothly pushing it up, rotating the bolt, and pulling back quickly, ejecting the copper casing before reversing the direction of his hand, pushing another shell forward into the breech and rotating the bolt back down into the locked position.

What ever this Neo-Egyptian may try to do, Blade’s ready.

Unfortunately, Seth had planned ahead. Just as soon as the shot came flying towards the Osiris, sticking out his left arm while still holding the Shotel, a burst of extension cloth came out from under the wrist and struck itself deep into the ground, just as the Osiris turned inward hard. The shot would fly just shy of the left arm, grazing the upper shoulder with a slight cut on the side which caused minor pressure on his left arm in the cockpit. With the extension cloth in the ground, the Osiris was able to push inward with his weight without tripping himself up.

Just then his back thrusters would activate, sending him propelling forward with the extension cloth still in the ground. Now grasping onto it with the his left hand while maintaining a grip on his other Shotel, the Osiris used the momentum from the swing maneuver he performed to rapidly close the distance between the two mobile fighters. Pulling his right arm back, the beam on the Shotel activated as the Osiris made a quick sweep for the Outback Gundam's legs in an attempt to disable it early on in the fight.

While such a position would put him in for a close shot, he had to take the chance and hope the Osiris's armor could take the blow.

Just as the Osiris closes, the Outback leads into the air and tucks its legs under it as the blade passes low under it.

“Vulcans! Cannons!”

Activated by the voice command, both the torso 90mm cannons and the 60mm vulcans in the head blaze for a second, as is their pre-programmed length of time, at point-blank range with the Neo-Egyptian Gundam, namely the head and upper torso. As Blade’s Gundam lands just outside of Seth’s shotels’ reach, he hastily brings up the rifle, with no time (or need) to aim and fires.

The bullets seem to dent into the Osiris's head and upper shoulder area, leaving a multitude of deep dents, but not getting past its durable armor. One or two manage to "break the skin" so to say, puncturing through the thinner armor near the neck, but the armor aided in stopping it before it hit anything important.

Seth could feel the stinging pain on his shoulder as the bullets pelted against the Osiris, but he shrugged it off.

However, just as the Outback Gundam moved to raise its rifle, the still-spinning Osiris Gundam would complete a 360 whirl, building up enough momentum, and would let go of its left beam shotel. The blade would spin around like a chakram directly towards the Outback Gundam at a diagonal angle.

"Good, but not good enough! Hyah!"

Calling back the extension cloth, he shot it out of the arm again as he pulled back to wrap it around the handle, making it look as if he was throwing a yo-yo at the Outback Gundam. However instead of a yo-yo, this was a sharp and dangerous beam shotel. While the second rifle shot aimed at the Osiris hits due to the close proximity, there was no way the Outback would be able to completely avoid the shotel in time. The bullet penetrated through the mid torso just shy below the cockpit, tearing a nice chunk out of the external plating and leaving a nice gap into the inner frame below.

While it made Seth cringe in slight pain, he kept his body steady and his actions resolute, in order to cut down his prey. The Osiris continued to boost back into the flaming cornfield as the extension cloth continued to expand with it, the Shotel flying almost point-blank at the enemy.

It’s impossible to dodge! The shotel means destined to cut right through his cockpit! Blade takes a step back and the next thing he sees is sky with his back hurting. A blur passes his vision from bottom to top connected by something.

The Shotel!

He’s on his back. Looking down, he discovers the thing that saved his life, a small irrigation ditch that his heel slipped into, causing him to lose his balance, which ultimately saved his life. Thinking quick, he grabs the knife from its sheath at his side and slices up at the extension cloth, which is just within his reach. The shotel is just beginning to be withdrawn, so this quick cut should be enough to throw it off course. This Neo-Egyptian is good, especially after taking what amounts to a gut shot, if not one to other vital bodily organs from a rifle at such short range and standing, let alone still being able to fight. If a normal person were to get shot the way he has just been, they’d be lucky to survive the trip to the hospital.

“This ain’t no ordinary bloke. Don’t know if I can actually pull this one off.”

Unfortunately, the extension cloth wasn't that easy to cut. The knife slashing up into the extension cloth did manage to mess with the course, though. As he pulled it back the Shotel would rise up some as it was drawn back, hitting against the knife. Instead of coming around for another swing into the enemy Gundam, the Osiris had no choice but to draw it back lest he lose the Shotel.

Pulling it back it slid down into its inactive state as he put it onto the side skirt, followed by the second shotel. Since the battle seemed to be at a slight stalemate for a moment, it was the best opportunity to assess the damage. The engineers who designed the Osiris were good; despite the gut shot and the various bullet damage to the upper body, the internal frame had managed to avoid any major harm. However, the exterior armor was taking quite the beating.

Looking around him, he could easily note that the fire he had started began to spread. All around him the dry cornfields were on fire, and the heat around the Osiris was building up.

"No... not yet. I can still cause some decent damage before I activate it..." he said to himself.

Stretching out his arms the katar guards slid into place and the two blades on the arms activated. Reaching down to the sides of his legs two compartments opened up as heat knives were drawn out, extending to a slightly longer length as the blades heated up. Shooting extension cloth out of each arm he wrapped the loop at the end of the daggers with the cloth, and lowered into a sort of football-esque hike stance. The eyes of the Osiris flashed before the leg thrusters and back thrusters ignited, sending him flying forwards through the flames towards his enemy.

This time his side to side motions were faster than before and more coordinated, his gaze looking towards his fallen target. He cringed slightly as the pressure caused by the suit still ached at him, but it was slowly fading away. It was time to show how adaptable he was over his machine, by making his ranged disadvantage, into a advantage.

The Outback Gundam stands up, then nearly falls down again.

Damn! Must’ve twisted my ankle when I fell…

The Osiris is charging again, not enough time to aim the rifle for a finishing blow, but there really isn’t a need for that. Quickly, Blade sheaths the blade, which luckily wasn’t knocked out of his hand, and reaches behind him. Two boomerangs unfold and he plucks them out of their holders.

“This is how it’s done!”

First, he lets lose with the right boomerang, sending it to take off the Osiris’s head and the sends the left to take out the legs. In mid-flight, they start to glow a menacing orange-red as they heat up enough to slice through armor like butter.

With those away, it is now a bit of a waiting game. If they hit, he’s good to go. If they miss, he’ll just have to throw more.

"You underestimate the power of the Osiris!" Seth shouted with a grin, continuing his charge.

Spinning the knives to where they were blade down to the ground, the Osiris would throw one at one boomerang and the other one at the other, propelled by the extension cloth. The knives were also heat-based weapons and could cause decent damage, and when attached to the highly durable extension cloth, gave the Osiris a ranged advantage it normally wouldn't have. That, and due to the sheer length of the extension cloth, it could be used for a variety of things.

While the knives targeted the boomerangs, the Beam Katars seemed to extend to a bit longer length as their power output increased. Charging in ever closer, the Osiris raised its arms up in a defensive block formation with the beam katars activated. Weaving from side to side his motions did nothing to change the course of the knives on the extension cloth as they would pick at their targets. When he got in close, he would activate it. He wouldn't give the Outback Gundam any chance to win.

The knife headed for the boomerang meant for the Osiris’ head is deflected into the ground, only to ricochet up and imbed itself in Seth’s right arm, rendering it useless. Unfortunately, as the knife hit, it too is deflected off course, this time, now free of the tether that is the extension cloth, it rips into the Outback’s left, disabling it.

“CRIKEY!”

The Neo Egyptian Gundam is too close to throw another boomerang, so Blade does the only thing left open for him. He grabs his Heat Hunting Knife and prepares to stab down onto the enemy as it nears.

No matter what happens next, this fight is over within the next several seconds. And it is the decisions made within that time which will determine who will be the victor and who will be the loser, and Blade doesn’t plan on losing…

((OOC: Nothing needed changing, don't worry. :P))

Just as the arm is struck, the tracer suit applied immediate pressure and pain to the arm, causing Seth to wobble slightly in his cockpit before regaining his composure, gritting his teeth.

He looked down as the right arm's joint area had been hit directly; it was a sheer luck ricochet, there was a small chance that such would actually occur and it did. Grabbing it with his left hand as he charged in, he pulled it from the damaged socket and tossed it forward at the Outbacks head. Just as he moved in the left arm pulled back as the beam katar extended and made way for the Outback.

The thrusters flared to life even more so than they already were and the left arm propelled itself forward towards the torso of the Outback Gundam, just below the cockpit. However, just as the beam katar would strike through the torso of the Outback Gundam, its heat knife would come bearing down upon the Osiris. The heated blade would dig into the side of its neck and cut through the upper armor, lodging itself deep into the internal frame and past the external armor.

Sparks would fly within the cockpit as the knife would cut in fairly close, as Seth nearly fell to his knees from that blow. The glowing eyes on the head would blink on and off momentarily from the strike due to the knife's position before glowing back on, the sensors in the head thoroughly damaged due to where the knife hit in the neck. While the Outback was still visible from the cockpit many of the panoramic sections on the screen had gone black, while others turned into static.

Seth remained in his lower stance against the Outback Gundam, beam katar still active as it was driven through the torso. It was if the two suits were locked together in position from the deep blows to each of the Gundams.

The Neo American watched closely as he saw both fighters plunge their weapons into each other's mechs. A check of his sensors confirmed that the Neo Egyptian had indeed missed the cockpit area and that his beam katar was lodged deep in the torso of the Outback Gundam.
"Well now, those both look like match-ending blows. Didn't figure we'd have a tie this early on though." He then activates the thrusters to boost him toward the fighters while signaling the barrier operator to de-activate the field. As the field drops he arrives next to the two fighters, both of which are still barely standing and are even using each other for support at this point.
Opening a com link to both fighters Roy says "Okay you two. The fight's over with now. You both won, and you both lost. This match is a draw.
Untangle yourselves and get your crews out to fix you two up. You both look like hell."
With that Roy again activated the hover jets on the legs and moved away to his own holding hanger for his mech and left the two fighters to their own devices as far as their repairs went.

"Damn machine still needs a few adjustments..." Seth said as the cockpit still sparked.

Holding onto his upper arm, the pain eventually subsided as his Trace System stopped registering it. Opening up one of the panels on the cockpit, he pressed a few buttons and crossed a few wires, and then the cockpit seemed to flare to life once again; the screens all turned on, as the power to the sensors had been rerouted.

Stepping back, the Beam Katar turned off and the Osiris reached out and grabbed the arm it had thrown at the Outback. Aside from damage to the joint, the arm was relatively in tact. It would only take a few days to restore the armor and replace the parts.

Aside from some pain in his neck and side, the minor damage dealt to him by the Outback wasn't registering at all. His body was well conditioned to still be standing after such blows, especially after the Trace Suit applied such large amounts of pressure.

Standing in the burning field, illuminated by the light of the flames, the Osiris looked like a scarred warrior, standing tall and still ready to fight. However, the match was called as a tie. It was a good thing, too. Even if his suit was capable of continuing, he felt that physically he wasn't.

Holding his ripped off arm in the other hand, the Osiris turned its back on the still-standing Outback, neither waiting for it to fall or move as it walked off the battlefield. "Isis is going to give me quite the lecture, I hesitated and didn't use Burial Mode, that was my mistake..." he said to himself.

In high spirits, he raised his right arm into the air while wielding the left arm in it, as if giving a spirited wave to the crowd. Walking completely off the field it would eventually enter the hangar of the ship it came in on, which would lift off the ground and head back towards Washington D.C. for repairs.

When the Outback shuts down, Blade takes his time to regain his breath, a punch to the gut with a katar can knock the wind of someone. Once he gets his wind back, shortly after the Osiris begins moving again, he opens a control panel on the semi-circle that houses the circuitry and begins doing some quick and dirty maintenance. After some boards are replaced, breakers reset, and chips by-passed. Soon, the eyes of the Outback Gundam flash back to life and the near crippling pain from the gut wound returns with the activation.

The Outback Gundam begins to limp off the field to the cheers of the Neo Australians in the crowd. Sure, Blade failed to achieve victory for his nation in the first round, but he also did not lose, which is almost as good.

The Heat Hunting Knife is still stuck in the Osiris’s neck, while the Osiris’s smaller heat knife is still embedded in his own arm, but he forces the pain out of his mind. Slowly, he makes his way to the Neo Australian carrier and powers down the Outback Gundam, grateful for the pain relief as the trace suit releases the pressure.

“Crikey… That bloke is one tough customer. Glad `m dun with `im…”

Stepping out into the hanger to see the damage for himself and whistles in amazement. The Outback can, and has, proven it can dish out and take heavy amounts of damage and still be able to move off the battlefield under its own power.
