I apologise in advance if you have already answered this question(I couldn't find the thread pertaining to this issue) but; have you any idea when the most recent episodes GUNDAMN and CT will be made available on ITunes?

I'm not sure how you couldn't find the thread about the podcasting problems since it's pinned to the top of every subforum on Mecha Talk. We've been in touch with Mevio about this issue, but I have no news.

Re: Ep. 022: High School of the Dead

Note: While I generally agree that the HOTD dub is terrible, I found the line mentioned at 1:18:01 to be absolutely hilarious. I mean, it's so ridiculously bad it's funny.
But yeah, I do agree that the dub pretty much sucked, as well as with most everything else that was mentioned in the show.

One other scene that the anime changed which I find odd you didn't mention was when the cast is reunited after they split up early on; in the manga they just kind of run into each other. In the anime, the corresponding scene is a lot more awesome.
But yeah, good stuff.
Interesting discussion on SOPA and all that BS, too.

I was using my phone to browse this site at the time, the "announcement" tab wasn't showing up on it.

Re: Ep. 022: High School of the Dead

alright, you've finally convinced me to check out the anime at least. good discussion, esp on the hollywood BS.

Speaking of smart, media aware zombie fiction check out the Newsflesh trilogy by Mira Grant. There was a zombie virus outbreak, but it wasn't apocalyptic. things went to hell, there's big chunks of america that have just been abandoned to the zombies and there's tons of security in inhabited areas, but its mostly about people getting by following a group of bloggers on a young presidential candidate on the campaign trail.

Re: Ep. 022: High School of the Dead

I've watched Highschool of the Dead and enjoyed it overall despite of its cons. I give it a 7/10 rating. That boob matrix scene was one of the best anime moments ever. The manga I've been keeping up since very early on before the anime was announced but as you mentioned, it's sad there's been no new chapter for about a year. One of the things I liked best about the show is the ED music by Maon Kurosaki. Each episode had different ED songs. Kimi to Taiyou ga Shinda Hi (ED1), Return to Destiny (ED3), Cold Bullet Blues (ED4), and The place of hope (ED8) was very fitting to the show's tone.

I'm wondering, is Highschool of the Dead the first zombie apocalypse anime series or were there others before it?

Re: Ep. 022: High School of the Dead

Just wanted to say thanks for another great episode. I haven't gotten into Highschool of the Dead yet, but I'll definitely check out the manga.

About the whole Piracy Cow, I totally agree that Steam is a great example of 'provide a good service and you'll be successful', but sadly I see console heading in the opposite direction (as you've already discussed).

Re: Ep. 022: High School of the Dead

Just finished listening.
Ok so here goes my thoughts.

Sacred Cow.
Piracy yeah it aint an easy issue to deal with considering legal sides view Piracy to begin with.
We are in the 21st century not the 20th century, some companies are adapting to these new ways but still there are things which affect or limit things.

Politics does affect so much, down here in Australia about 2-3 years there was an attemtp to introduce a mandatory internet filter for every Australian to censor objectional content

They decided to treat all Australians inclduing paying adults as if they were not consenting adults and able to say view adult content.
This eventually got dropped due to pressure from lots of people and groups in time, buisnesses, internet analysts, ect.
Part of the vocal side FOR the filter were very vocal religious groups, namely the ACL(Australian Christian Lobby)
Not to mention the minister made some STUPID comments, including calling those who oppose the filter, support child pornography.

Simillarly at the same time yet a simillar issue.
We had issue with the Video Game rating system being affected by the Office of Film and Literature Classification.
Games rated R18+ normally were being censored and shoe horned in to MA15+ which meant 15 year olds could get access to games like that.

It's only more recent years this has changed due to pressure from alot of gamers and also talking, since some state premiers at first held it back opposing it.
Well that time 1 premier got kicked out off office and that changed things with a new open minded premier for South Australia.

In fact on the news earlier, it was mentioned in fact because it's going to be implemented after a good year or 2 of 98% of Aussie gamers in support of it.
(I'm one of those 98% people)

NOW on to the main post replies for the other stuff. :P
Ok High School of the Dead I haven't seen it, heard of it, but now after hearing this it has my interest.
I might wait and see if more comes for the anime though.

As for voicemail and mailbag replies.
Pedro, it's cool, so long as you get to GaoGaiGar sooner or later man, I want to hear your thoughts on it.

1.Glad you guys enjoyed them and I agree with them being alternate interpretations of Sherlock Holmes, yeah I heard A Game of Shadows got 1-2 rough reviews, including spill.com which I disagreed with.

2.Magical Girl Fighting Anime aint a regular thing I watch, but it is sometimes.
I will say I totally agree with Pedro on the end of Mahoromatic Something More Beautiful.
Typical Gainax BS ending if you ask me.
Steel Angel Kurumi was rather fun, 2 was kind of odd though.
Sekirei is somewhat interesting thus far.

3.Mezzo DSA does have a prequel related work Mezzo Forte.
The series can be considered possibly loosely connect or set in the same universe as Kite and the reboot Kite Liberator.

As for the thing I refered to it was episode 19.
Was that the Posion thing?
Seems like it anyway, didn't mean to make Chris relive traumatising memories :P

Also seems like UNIVERSE!! has been going around lately.

EDIT: Also caught first 2 episodes of High School of the Dead via Madman's streaming room.
It's kind of interesting series, but oddly to me, it's kind of sad seeing so many kids or people get caught out by the Zombie Apocalypse so soon.

Might look in to it more, also Chris I understand what you mean with Shizuka's boobs they are too big and used comically, it's off putting.

Re: Ep. 022: High School of the Dead

When you brought up the Divx player it reminded me of the time my father and I went to Circuit City, who were the main backers of the technology at the time and a salesman tried to talk him into buying one. Now my father isn't a tech-savvy person, nor is he stupid he simply asked him a common sense question why would want a DVD he could watch when wanted to over one he could? When he was at a loss for an answer that wasn't in his pre-memorized pitch the salesman tried to counter with argument that that Divx DVDs were cheaper to own, as the cost was about equal to renting a video at time. My father pointed out that the cost to own DVD players and DVDs were steadily dropping as the install base increased, and he still didn't address the issue of time coding that would lock out Divx discs after a time. Long story short, neither of us were sold on Divx now DVDs are dirt cheap and Divx is on that ash heap of bad ideas and all but forgotten, a fitting punishment!

As far as the Enterprise theme goes, I believe SF Debris once said there nothing wrong with using a pop song as the opening, just why that song! In fact you could literally use any other and it would have made for a much better intro like this for example,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P4IlgtwHmA
Yes, it's cheesy but it works much better

Hell, the series outro made a much better intro song

Though, personally I like this one

Re: Ep. 022: High School of the Dead

Another great episode. I liked HSotD manga and it's killing me that they are constantly on hiatus. I like the homages to the Romero films. I also like what you already mentioned that these characters are not stupid. Yes, they do occasionally get careless, but it's not contrived stupidity. The anime, OTOH, I still have not finished. The boob physics just got so ridiculous. For example, Takashi is firing Rei's rifle at the zombies while Saeko is holding them off. The rifle bullet, which is traveling at supersonic speeds, goes in between Saeko's valley while each gyrating pair moves out of the way of the bullet so she does not end up with a double puncture. Perhaps this is all bothering me because I am not a tit man. I like them like Asami's, "healthy but restrained" as Chris said.

I don't think it's a question of being a boobs man or not it's just so over-the-top nonsensical that it fails to amuse.

Re: Ep. 022: High School of the Dead

Wasn't there also a spoof cameo of Simon's Pegg's character from Shaun of the Dead in the anime? I know it was in the manga of HotD.

The only thing I liked that I actual consider good fanservice and comedy in Drifters of the Dead is Rei and Saeko making out in delusion thinking it was Takashi.

I don't remember seeing any Simon Pegg look-a-likes, though that would've been a nice easter egg.

Yeeeeeah, Drifters of the Dead. Like you said, at least the Rei and Saeko making out was quite nice.

Re: Ep. 022: High School of the Dead

Ok hate to bring this old thread up again.
BUT was browsing around and Chris I do believe your reason for Sony removing PS2 compatibility doesn't match what SCEA Jack Tretton has sad in this link.

Re: Ep. 022: High School of the Dead

C'mon, are you really just going to believe corporate PR speak, especially from a company like Sony?
PR nonsense wrote:"encourage buyers of the entry-level PlayStation 3 to purchase more games designed specifically for the new system."
That's a bunch of nonsense. Any extra components that you don't have to manufacture and put into the system are a reduction in cost to you. And this was at the time when the system cost $500-600. This is also the same company that just said that prices on old PS3 models won't be dropping because they know that's what consumers want.

Re: Ep. 022: High School of the Dead

Yeah, the thing was back at the time he did say that.
The line up wasn't all that great for PS3.
Nowadays it might be different if he said that later on.

On other hand as someone who intends to get a super slim PS3 model I don't believe Sony's words much.
It is annoying their decission for making the newest PS3 model to be expensive(for now at least)
But it could have been what they tried to do if Sony Japan decided to make manufacturing PS3s at the same time and preparing for the Slim model.
