Mechwarrior Online

So the Mechwarrior game we heard about all the way back in '09 finally crops back up. Things have changed however, as it has shifted to a team-oriented, PC only, F2P game.
Hit up the blog on the official site for details.

Worth noting is that it seems it was Microsoft and not Harmony Gold that was throwing a monkey wrench into the works.

Re: Mechwarrior Online

Well I went ahead and signed up; it looks interesting enough, and something to fill time with. I haven't played a whole lot of Mechwarrior, only owned either Mechwarrior 3 or 4, don't recall. Wish I still owned it.

Re: Mechwarrior Online

I've registered as well and browsed their forums a bit. There's not much to read right now, most of the discussion going on right now is just people trolling or whining about how they think that the game will be pay to win.

What everyone needs to realize is that Pirhana wanted to make an awesome Mechwarrior game with a badass single player campaign and all the works, but none of the publishers they pitched the idea to wanted anything to do with it.

I want to be cautiously optimistic about it, but I'm on the fence about too many things. Having played Living Legends for the past year, combined arms is something I've become accustomed to, so it's definitely going to feel lame not being able to roll around kneecapping assault mechs using a Demolisher or raining LRMs from 1000m up piloting a Shiva aerospace fighter.

Hopefully, given that the game will be F2P, we will get the unseen since it is my understanding that even if HG wanted to, they could not lift a finger against Pirhana since they're not making a profit off the designs.

Re: Mechwarrior Online

Q. Will the Clans make an appearance or cameo?

A. ;)
: D

Not sure about how I feel about online multiplayer only, however, but I understand, given the circumstances.

Hopefully this will at least generate interest in future Mechwarrior titles.

Re: Mechwarrior Online

The guys at Piranha are doing a pretty good job of releasing content and media regularly. They've done a couple of interviews - one with the developers and one with Alex Iglesias, who is better known across the interweb as Flying Debris, and today they released concept art for the Dragon battlemech. It has also been confirmed that Mechwarrior Online will be powered by the CryENGINE 3.

Also, if anyone is interested in trying Mechwarrior Living Legends, Crysis Warhead is only 10 dollars right now on steam due to the Thanksgiving sale.

I'll give it a shot if they put horizontal jump jets back in the game so I can strafe and do Virtual-On bullshit like Mechwarrior 2.

Re: Mechwarrior Online

The Catapult battlemech was announced a week or so ago. Flying Debris never fails to impress me with each new piece of artwork he makes. Also, please vote for MWO as the most anticipated game of 2012, I'd hate to see it lose to a POS game like DOTA.

Re: Mechwarrior Online

I'm impressed, they actually made the catapult look sexy.
Sadly, all the resources I've looked into seem to indicate my baby won't be available.
Of course if there's no mech customizing it won't matter anyway.

Re: Mechwarrior Online

Mechwarrior Online has finally released its first official trailer. They've also released concept art for two more mechs, the Commando and Centurion, since I last updated this thread. I cannot say I care much for the music and I am disappointed that we still haven't seen any gameplay, but the graphics and cockpit both look excellent and I look forward to hot dropping an Steiner Recon lance.

Re: Mechwarrior Online

In other news: Mechwarrior Tactics
I'm not sure if it's old news or not; I just saw a trailer for it today.

While not Mechwarrior Online related I'd figured I'd post it here, rather than creating another MW topic. :)

Re: Mechwarrior Online

This is a post made a couple days ago on the MWLL forums regarding MWT, and it pretty much sums up my feelings about the game as well.

GREAAAAT!!! Battletech Pokemons!

I swear what little interest I may have had in this is looong dead now.

It's MegaMek made by Zynga.
In other news, MWO has made media releases for the Raven and Awesome battlemechs since this thread was last active.

Re: Mechwarrior Online

To be honest the thought of Battletech Pokemon makes me smile more than cringe. Sad to hear that it's so cash heavy. Also, I'm just not a fan of hex based strategy games so it's not a big let down personally.
