Re: The Official Gundam Unicorn Mecha Thread Mk II

Back to the mechas featuring in epsiode 4...
It took a while for me to recognize it, but I think I've finally managed to identify the mysterious hovering vehicle seen at Torrington, together with the Junior Mobile Suit.
Yes, I'm talkning about this thing:

http://img120.imagevenue.com/img.php?im ... _149lo.jpg

It seems to be a version of the MR75 Gunner Vehicle [ガンナー・ビークル], or better of the M78-A Type 78 Floating Tank "MS Killer" [78式浮行戦車 "MSキラー"], a couple of poorly known combat vehciles featured in a 1986 gamebook written by Hiroshi Yamaguchi and titled Mobile Suit Gundam: Burning Pursuit [機動戦士ガンダム灼熱の追撃].
Images of these latter two can be found on the old version of MS Lexicon site; here I attach the rather faithful drawings made by Walfisch for his fanzine "Man & Mobile Suits"

M78-A

Can somebody agree with my impression?

Re: The Official Gundam Unicorn Mecha Thread Mk II

I knew that Unicorn was made for hardcore Gundam fans who would actually know every single mobile suit in the mecha porn scenes, but this is ridiculous. Still, good find.

I will say that the vehicle in Unicorn does have plenty of aesthetic differences, but it does look similar enough. I could easily agree that it was inspired by that little-known tank, though. Very interesting.
Fear the power of the skirted suit. Fear it.

Well with the berzam you just need to mount an compound eye and visor and it would look more GM like the refined would work better maybe it will get branded as the missing link between the GM III and gundam mk2

yes that ms may have inspired the Byarlant custom having compound eyes I do beleve that the EFF post titans would only use zeon style ms as aggressor units with mono eyes there deployed units would have been modfied to look more federation styled. but to complete the look it should be based on the refined model witch looks more like the gundam mk 2

I'm afraid I'm not quite convinced. The Torrington vehicle looks pretty different, and it seems to have 08th MS Team-style hover units, rather than being a flying vehicle with landing skids. And the turret has a cannon in the middle, rather than off to one side. It does look weirdly familiar, but I can't ID it, and it's not mentioned in the recording script.

On the other hand, here are a couple other cameos. In the desert scene where they're hauling the Garencieres out of the sand, I think that Zaku Tank is actually a Green Makaku version with oversized manipulators. (Maybe somebody can get a clearer look.) And according to the script, the fighters at Torrington are Saberfish II types.

Is it plausible that it's both? I.E. they resurrected an obscure design as a Hover Truck varient.

I looked back at Homeless' screen cap bonanza on page 13, and while the claws aren't as oversized as previous linearts they seem to be the right shape and the arm design matches.

it may be just another local refit of existing hardware. it looks like an hover-truck operator wanted something bigger than an Vulcan gun for protection.

Yes, that was exactly my impression...however, since it's not mentioned in the recording script, I think we will never know for sure (or a least, we will have to wait until new material will be published  )

Summary of the summary at the top of the page

- They thought about where to introduce the Byarlant since EF was purging Titans MS. Thought it was a good chance to introduce the iconic design because it wasnt active in the Zeta movie. The artstyle in the animation is closer to the original than Katoki's redesign
- Originally planned to have Tristar fight at the shore and and Byarlant at the desert, but the flow was reversed. Ends up with Byarlant ownage. If it was withdrawn earlier other MS could have more air time.
- Gallus J was supposed to have an aerial dogfight
- Shambloo's beam cannon was animated in the style of Alpha Azieru's mouth cannon.
- Marasais with faydaeen rifles came from Zeta movie, the lineart was done by the same guy from the Zeta movie at his discretion.
- Juagg and Zogock was to appeal to old fans that could recognzie it
- The white line on the Zogok's arm gives it the "Sleeve" styling. There was supposed to be a scene where it uses it's armor punch. Since it's replaced by the Zee-Zulu knife scene, they addded the boomerang cutter scene instead.
- Gouf Heavy Arms type was used in Czechoslovakia at the European front, so they decided to add that castle scene.
- Dom tropen's eye was changed to pink to avoid animation error when mixed with the Dowadge
-The new heat weapons are depicted differently. They felt that the old heat weapons are inefficient when heated completely。The new heat weapons only heat up the edge of the weapon.
-The Grey Phantom wreck was planned to be a Salamis or a Megellan. Director wants a white base, so they changed it to a Grey Phantom because they thought it was funny how there wasn't a wreck for it despite multiple appearances.
-Ep5 will not have large scale battles like Ep4. It will feel more like Zeta movie 1
- Banshee's right hand weapon is a smartgun, as a "missing link" to Nu Gundam. The left hand is a speicalized weapon claw. They are planning to feature performances that would match Banshee's character.

Byarlant is "iconic", good one, that. Katoki doing a redesign of Byarlant? Since the original was so curved at the top, his taste for angular design would have made for an interesting picture, to say the least!
Originally planned to have Tristar fight at the shore and and Byarlant at the desert, but the flow was reversed. Ends up with Byarlant ownage. If it was withdrawn earlier other MS could have more air time.
The things we do for love. :)
- Shambloo's beam cannon was animated in the style of Alpha Azieru's mouth cannon.
Well, that was originally a great Big Gun sequence, so recycling it was effective.
- Marasais with faydaeen rifles came from Zeta movie, the lineart was done by the same guy from the Zeta movie at his discretion.
The first person to use this as a basis for a "continuity" post gets locked in a closet with Naruto yaoi fans. :P
- Juagg and Zogock was to appeal to old fans that could recognzie it.
"Look Dad, there's some MS from your old Gundam show!"
- Gouf Heavy Arms type was used in Czechoslovakia at the European front, so they decided to add that castle scene.
Now we know the Remnants were hiding anywhere they could, but that's just rubbing it in. :D
-Ep5 will not have large scale battles like Ep4. It will feel more like Zeta movie 1.
Yeah, we'll just get a small-scale battle like the Jaburo operation. :P
- Banshee's right hand weapon is a smartgun, as a "missing link" to Nu Gundam. The left hand is a speicalized weapon claw. They are planning to feature performances that would match Banshee's character.
Nifty, time to strut it some!

I forgot to specify that he was takling about the Garuda battle scene in Ep 5, which would be similar to the Audhumla battle in Zeta movie 1

Normally I'd say "awe man", but considering the amount of action in the first Zeta movie I'm not complaining.

I don't get it....

Unless this claw is armed with a sonic weapon I don't see what this has to do with an female Irish wraith that likes screaming as she is about to kill someone. It could have another attribute, but it is probably too inappropriate to say here.

Pretty sure they're talking about the "lion" theme of the suit, and not the name.

Initially I have only read the summary at the top by the poster, which claims that Banshee's smartgun is a missing link to "V" gundam. I originally thought it was a typo for Nu gundam, it's often typed as "v" gundam, considering how it is obviously a fin funnel modified into a rifle. But after reading the actual quote in the interview, it did say the open barrel smart gun is meant to be some kind of a link to beam weapons that come after it. The summarizer interpreted that as V gundam's beam launcher, though V gundam wasn't mentioned in the interview as far as I can tell from a quick glance.

The zaku tank is indeed of V6 config (aka the Green Makaku) But this one is modified for construction work, which is what the zaku-tank field customization was designed for. There is a specialized tow unit instead of the back weaponary unit.

Cool. I kinda like the Barzam - it's funny-looking. Plus the Refined Barzam is badass.
