Re: Chaos Theater Mailbag Drop Box

A few questions

1: Okay, I'm ready to jump ship from the dying beast that is Square Enix. Do you guys have any suggestions of gaming companies or series that make (preferably specialize) in J-RPGs? Or hell, any good J-RPGs that you'd recommend (preferably PS2/PS3/PSP) that aren't friggin Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest (or god forbid another Kingdom Hearts spinoff)?

2: I've heard you guys talk about it a little bit in different shows, but never really discuss it in detail so - What's your take on the Elder Scrolls series, and if you're looking forward to it, what do you want and expect to see in Skyrim? Personally I've only played Morrowind and Oblivion, I've been trying to get Arena and Daggerfall to run, despite how glitchy they tend to be.

3: Finally, Pedro - Before Chris providing that taste of mecha, and besides your lo -wait that's Pedobear North, never mind  - what kind of anime were you a big fan of?
From 00 S2 ep 25

Tieria: As long as you keep looking down on them, you'll never understand them!

Re: Chaos Theater Mailbag Drop Box

Okay, so since Chris and Pedro are on their knees begging for more questions I suppose I could take pity on them and take Mu to school while I'm at it :P

Should last you a few episodes :)

1.) What is your definition of moe?

2.) If you could live on one island in the One Piece universe, which would it be?

3.) What pirate crew would you join? (You can't pick the Straw Hats). Or would you join the Marines, Baroque Works, revolutionaries, or one of the other organizations in the One Piece universe?

4.) Pedro, you claim to be a pedobear yet I mostly hear you go on about busty older women like Nico Robin (a fine choice). So who is your favourite loli? Which loli was the first to set you on the wrong path? We'll operationally define loli as a girl 13 or under. You can go older if she still has an underdeveloped body (example Konata from Lucky Star). For me the answer to both is Eve from Black Cat for being well written, well developed (as a character), cute, and kickass. I was in denial at first, though, and it was Illya from Fate/Stay Night who made me embrace the dark side.

5.) A billionaire offers to fund the media project of your choice. What would you do? Would you revive a franchise, adapt a novel, or do something new? Would it be a TV series, a movie or series of movies, or an anime? Who would you want to helm the project?

6.) When I mentioned in my last mailbag that the In Death series has over 40 books (I've read them all, btw) Pedro had a "Holy shi-" reaction. So where would you two draw the line? When does a series become so damn long that you don't even want to try and get into it?

7.) What are your thoughts on video game difficulty? Should all games be winnable or is it okay for a game to be so hard that it is impossible to be beaten by anyone except the most hardcore of gamer? Personally I think all games should be winnable with some ease. If it's so hard that I'm yelling and swearing and throwing my controller across the room because I keep losing then it ceases to be fun. And not having fun while playing a game completely defeats the purpose.

8.) Are you guys into shoujo series at all? I know Chris is familiar with Fushigi Yuugi but are there any other titles you like and would recommend? Or are you too manly for girly comics? :P Personally I think Skip Beat and Vampire Knight are some of the greatest titles currently being printed.

9.) Pedro, what do you think of the current manga arc of Bleach? I was really digging it at first due to the time skip and how I had no idea what direction the story was headed in. The way Ichigo's friends and family turned against him was very unnerving and well done. But it seems now it'll fall back into formula which, I suppose, shouldn't surprise me. I'm still digging it, though.

10.) Which comic book universe would you want to live in? Marvel or DC? DC always seemed idealistic while Marvel is more cynical. I would probably choose DC since you can always count on Superman or Batman to save the day. Then again, I think after Blackest Night I'd probably be a zombie.

11.) I know your beef with Nintendo, but you have to give them props for being the only one of the big 3 to survive solely on video games. At the same time, though, does this make them more vulnerable as a company? Would they be the only one to fall during the video game apocalypse?

12.) What do you think of the no kill policy a lot of heros adopt? Is that the way it should be or are there some villains that just need to be put down for good?

13.) What are your expectations for The Dark Knight Rises? I got into quite the argument with my brothers over this, but I don't think it'll be as great as everyone says it's going to be. I think they blew their load early with The Dark Knight and Rises just won't be able to live up to that. Having Bane as the end villain is a bit of a shame, since Bane is more of a 2nd tier villain and not even in the same league as Joker or Two Face. There are more iconic Batman villains they could have used, but unfortunately Christopher Nolan's dumb "Batman should be realistic!" policy robs us of them. Wouldn't you love to see Mr Freeze done right? I would love to see Clayface and Man-Bat myself. On top of that, Dark Knight was great because of Heath Ledger and Aaron Eckhart. Christian Bale is just flat and boring (not to mention laughable) as Batman, so I hope Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy can pick up the slack. I'm sure it'll be a good movie, though.

14.) Say you die and go to hell. What anime/tv show/movie/book/song are you forced to watch/read/listen to repeatedly for all of eternity?

15.) What's the most convoluted thing you've ever saw/read/played? I would go with Umineko no naku koroni with all it's weird magic and alternate timelines and such.

16.) Finally, how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie pop?
"In the end, the world doesn't really need a Superman... Just a brave one."

Re: Chaos Theater Mailbag Drop Box

Have either of you read the comic "Battle Angel Alita" (Gunnm in Japan)? If I had to label it with a genre, I'd would say that it is "brain porn" - Brains gets smashed, smooshed, eaten, transplanted, deconstructed, reconstructed, scrambled, fried, put in jars, tubes, robots, pods, and just plain fetishized on every page. Despite not being a fan of this genre, I found it a fun and quick read. Any thoughts?

Re: Chaos Theater Mailbag Drop Box

Hiya Chris and Pedro, loving the show so far (particularly the videogame eps), keep up the good work, and keep slaying those Sacred Cows!

I was recently relistening to episode 4 and my ears perked up when I heard you mention Captain Janeway. My questions are:

1. What do you think of Janeway? Did she live up to expectations as the first female lead in a Star Trek series? Could she have been improved?

2. Do you know of other examples of passable female commanding officers in other shows? A couple that spring to mind are the captain of the Enterprise C in TNG, and the woman that took over for Sheridan in Babylon 5. You can go into Anime captains as well if you wish (Gundam Seed, 00, etc.)

For the record, I never really liked Janeway. It had nothing to do with her being a woman, and everything to do with her just being a bad commanding officer!

Have you guys played any of the Persona games, or any Shin Megami Tensei games in general? all of the recent Persona news has me really excited as a fanboy of the series, especially for the upcoming Persona 4 anime in October.

Re: Chaos Theater Mailbag Drop Box

Chris & Pedro:

1. any classic sci fi novel series you'd like to see on the big screen and why? I thought I heard the Rama series was optioned for film rights but I don't know what's happened with that.

2. Also many popular anime series are based off an existing, established manga series. More often than not fans of the franchise prefer the manga version for the level of storytelling and depth that the print medium can offer as opposed to a strictly formatted animated show. Now have either of you seen an anime that you considered better done in animated form vs the manga counterpart it was based on?

Re: Chaos Theater Mailbag Drop Box

Hey Chaos Theatre Duo.
Just got 2 questions for the mailbag.

1.What is the hardest games you have ever played?
For this question you can have 2-4 answers and covering all sorts of types of games.
For instance Battletoads, Ninja Gaiden, Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun, Super Ghosts and Goblins, ect.

2.Do you guys plan to watch or have interest in the the series "Terra Nova"?
I myself intend to check this out and thus far have mostly enjoyed it just to say that much.

That is all I've got, keeping it short and simple, keep up the entertaining podcasts guys.

Re: Chaos Theater Mailbag Drop Box

If you could have any Hollywood actor voicecast for any anime or game character, who would you choose for which character? I would have Morgan Freeman as Vegeta, because Morgan Freeman can do anything.

"What does the scouter say?"

Also, what are your thoughts on the Tales series and what is your impression of the new Tales of Xillia game?

Re: Chaos Theater Mailbag Drop Box

There's been a lot of talk recently about Japanese vs. American style games the last little while. Are there legitimate issues/differences between the two?

What are your thoughts on video game RPGs as opposed to Pen-and-Paper RPGS? What do you see as being the relative strengths and weaknesses of each?

Hello, Bald Wizard and Mr. PedroBear, two questions is all I asked to be answered.

So I have been wondering for some time now; have you heard of David Weber's Honor Harrington books and what do you think of them?

Now to the second question. Do either of you keep up with non-manga comics and if so which ones?

Re: Chaos Theater Mailbag Drop Box

I've got a couple.

How's the Babylon 5 re-watch going? Does Pedro still need some way to watch the rest of the series? If so, they have the re-releases of each season on Amazon going for 15-30 (all but season 4 are 15-20, season 4 is about 27) right now, if you have the spare cash and are interested.

Have either of you ever heard of or watched The Twelve Kingdoms? If you have seen it, have any thoughts? Possibly another topic for an episode at some point in the far future?

Re: Chaos Theater Mailbag Drop Box

Hey Chaotic Theater.
Prepare for trouble and make it double!, for the questions anyway :P

So got these 2 to ask and I've got a mix instead of all video game questions this time.

1.Have either of your read or seen the Adventrues of Tin Tin by Herge?(when I meant seen I refer to the 90s animated seires)
If either of you have what stories are you favs?
Quick list of fav stories: The Crab with the Golden Claws, Flight 714, the Calculus Affair, Destination Moon, Explorers on the Moon, The Red Sea Sharks and Tin Tin and the Picaros.
Also do you have interest in the upcoming movie?, I do myself I really want to see it.
I've been in to the series for a good while.

And the final note on that fav chracters are Tin Tin, Captain Haddock and fav villian is Rastapopulous.

Sorry about slight ramble but yeah I'm in to that series.

2.I will try to keep this one brief.
Have either of your played any of the 2 Freedom Force games?
If yes what are your thoughts of them, they are over head view action RPGs controlling super heroes in the city, fight villians, solve stories, you can destroy buildings, cars, throw things around, use powers ect and it has a lot of homages to Marvel an DC characters, even down to the character intros being in that 70s looking comic ink like style look.

If not I would recommend looking in to them.

Look forward to your answers and thanks guys.
I try to give quality over quantity when it comes to mailbag submissions, seems Peter out Mued me :P

PS I also wanted to say I have really enjoyed episodes 9, 10 and 13 the most so far.
But mostly 13 for Back to the Future discussion.

Re: Chaos Theater Mailbag Drop Box

What are some of the most difficult or frustrating moments you've had in video games? For me, it was the most difficult ending for Armored Core: Last Raven where you had to fly down narrow hallways full of suicide mines, disable a generator with laser turrets, and then take down another AC which had broken weapons, infinite energy, and fully tuned parts, all without repairs or ammo reloads for yourself. It took me 4 hours of retries to beat.

What are your thoughts on Gears of War, more specifically, the last game now that it has been out for a bit?

What are some things that really frighten you? For me it's spiders, being stuck in small spaces, and things in the dark (think Darkness Falls.)

If someone were to get on your bad side, how would you kill them?

There has been writing on the internet about portable consoles possibly dying out because of mobile devices like i-pad and smart phones. What is your opinion on this matter?

What is your advice to the audience this week?

Re: Chaos Theater Mailbag Drop Box

What do you think of the Nintendo DS game LUX-PAIN? Personally,as a gamer that plays most games for the story, I like LUX-PAIN despite it's grammar being horrendous at times. I think the game has a great atmosphere and a great soundtrack and I think the game deserves a sequel in the states. What do the gundamn guys think of LUX-PAIN,
and an impossible, unpotential sequel? candyland your answer for that last part.

Re: Chaos Theater Mailbag Drop Box

Hi there Chris and Pedro, just thought I'd drop another question in the mailbox.

1) Have you guys ever played any of the games from Phoenix Wright franchise? If so, what do you think of the franchise as a whole? And what are your thoughts on the upcoming movie?
I personally love the clips I saw of the all-women cast of the Phoenix Wright play and can't wait to see the movie.

2) With the recent release of the GTA V trailer, I am extremely excited for this game despite having only seen a short trailer. I'm sure you've both seem the trailer too; what are your thoughts on it and the GTA franchise as a whole?

Once again, thanks for the hours of entertainment you provide for us and keep up the great work.

Hey Chris and Pedro,

I found this article that on the game site CheatCC hyping mobile gaming as the future of gaming and since this was the subject of one the Sacred Cow segments, I thought maybe you could discuss it as kind of an extension of that conversation. http://www.cheatcc.com/extra/mobilegami ... rXnJWpXtIY

Cheers,
