Kayone73's Gunpla Photo Thread

Just recently finishing putting together the HGUC 1/144 Geara Zulu Angelo S custom type and took a few initial tabletop shots, mostly used the native plastic body color on the MS body, and used gray spraypaint on the backpack and weapons system, hand painted all the white trim instead of using the stickers which was a huge PITA and not the best job, but looks passable from afar, close up, far from good. Haven't put together a gunpla in quite a while so this was just practice, working on a Stark Jegan next.

Still working on my lighting/photography setup and thinking I'll need to get a good macro lens for my dSLR for sharp closeup shots:

Initial without the weapons pack

Then with different lighting and with the full weapons pack:

Let me know what you think, feedback is appreciated, but the positive kind is appreciated more.

Except for the spots where the nubs used to be and the yellow paint on the thrusters, your Stark Jegan's alright. And the decals you added look better than the ones included with the kit.

Thanks, with the decals I purchased an HGUC CCA waterslide decal set and used them pretty liberally on the kit. I hate the adhesive stickers that come with the kit, their a pain to apply straight.

yeah the yellow paint job on the thrusters was a bit crap, I made the mistake of trying to use the gundam yellow marker paint which doesn't work well at all over a large surface, even with a white prime base underneath, I've bought some proper yellow acrylics for future handpainting.

As far as the nubs go, yeah i'm working on my sanding and color filling technique to hide those (using color matched real touch markers).

Liking the Crossbone a lot!

I actually have the MG Crossbone Skullheart kit in my closet for over a year now unbuilt. Haven't had the time to sit down and work on a Gunpla and when I do, I don't have any motivation to start on it. Seeing your Crossbone is really neat though and kind makes me want to start. I should probably get around to it :)

I opted not the buy the Full Cloth kit to save myself $20 and avoid doing the extra build work.

Really? I tend to pick up Gunplas at anime conventions, and most of the dealers there sell the regular MG Crossbone and the MG Crossbone Skullheart for the same price lol. Picked mine up for $55. The most I've seen it different is $10 more for the Skullheart, but that dealer was overpricing every Gunpla anyways so I paid him no mind ($50 for a NG 1/100 Arios??! I'll pass.)

And I think it's just personal preference, but I think the Skullheart's Full Cloth looks really cool :)

What DSLR are you using? Those pictures look really nice. Also, what are those stick things that you use to hold the small pieces up? Seems like it'd be useful when I do my panel lining...

Nikon dSLR + Tamron macro lens.

those stick things are ordinary bamboo BBQ/shish kebab skewers with alligator clips on the ends, they're pretty indispensable tools for painting/detailing small pieces.

You can get the bamboo skewers at any dollar store.

What about those alligator clips? They seem especially made to fit on top of those skewers.

Re: Kayone73's Gunpla Photo Thread

Heh, yeah I was more asking about the clip things at the ends. They looked like those clothes hanger things at first, but then I realized they were different. Nice invention you made there though. I bet with a little modification, those would make nice spear weapons for Gunplas lol.

No they're generic alligator clips, you can find them online or on ebay

Re: Kayone73's Gunpla Photo Thread

Someone from YouTube advised me to look up the clips under "spray paint clips" or "spray paint holders."

Magnificent! :D LOTS of details and all neatly done. GN Drive looks really good.
