Japan isn't the only one with a Gundam statue.

I hope Bandai get the legal rights to tear that statue down on copyright claims or at the very least as knock off.
Come on China that is just cheap and incredibly low attempt to try and cash in.

The difference between China and Japan can pretty much be summarized by comparing those two pictures.

Man, the old China would've built an army of them, just to protect the emperor's tomb.

Don't get your hopes up; China can look to South Korea for legal precedence.

Remember, kids! 'Gundam' is a general term for cartoon robots! It's court-approved!

Re: Japan isn't the only one with a Gundam statue.

From Anime's News Network
Witnesses report that the orange statue with a striking resemblance to Sunrise's Gundam robotic mecha was suddenly removed from a Chinese amusement park as of Tuesday. Park officials also denied the existence of the statue to the news agency Agence France-Presse. The Floraland (Chengdu Guosetianxiang) park's website removed the image of the statue from one of its pages. (A sample of the original image appears at right.)
Looks like it didn't last long, huh? Ah well, they say that it is going to go under modification to counter claims of 'similarities'. Looks like they're going to need originality that goes beyond a bad paint-job.

Wonder if I will ever see that in a future Dynasty Warriors Gundam...

As if model kits weren't enough, they had to copy the statue as well. Maybe they thought it was a 1:1 model kit.

Lol wow, I don't get why South Korea doesn't just make their own anime and then globalize it. Half the anime and western toons nowadays has Korean names credited to animation when the end credits run, seriously X_X

I found it interesting how they look this knock-off down and then denied its very existence even though it's all over the net and on the news I believe.

What is more disturbing, China making a statue of a Gundam or making a Gundam for real?

Apparently 2ch and Youtube is abuzz with comments. For example:
the reason why China did not use the proper color because they are avoiding to be sued once again by Bandai
It makes more sense if they built a statue of Dragon Gundam from G-Gundam.

They should do a "Gungal" statue instead. That'd be cool.

When I saw this on Sankaku... oh dear... what a monstrosity... Looks like a horrible mix of a Gundam, Mazinger, and god knows what else China butchered in.
