4GFFG: Round One: Neo Kurdistan Neo China

The tenth match of the opening round of the Gundam Fight is broadcast on ESPN 5. It wasn't originally slated for any ESPN network, but decent enough international interest that promised better ratings than an early season NBA game between two teams without any real stars led to ESPN picking up the fight right after the schedule was announced. To handle the duty of calling the fight were a pair of experianced commentators who usually handled regional NFL games, but had callled their share of Gundam Fight matches that never made it to the top ESPN channels - Jerry Wolff, a dumpy looking man who had been covering all manner of sports for the past 30 years following a brief stint as an NFL tight end. He was joined by Rick Hudson, an average looking former sportswriter who had covered every Gundam Fight. This is their third Gundam Fight sharing a booth. The fight would take place in Guilliaume Stadium.

"Greetings and salutations from Neo Luxembourg! I'm Jerry Wolff, joined as usual by Rick Hudson, to cover todays bout live from Guilliaume Stadium. The fight here will take place between one of the oldest nations, Neo China, and one of the newest, Neo Kurdistan. Rick, what are some of the big stories leading to this fight?"
"Well Jerry, the biggest involve Neo Kurdistan. We all know the story of their formation just a few years ago, that many nations still refuse to acknowledge them as a valid participant due to their lack of a conventional space colony, and of course, the tragic fight with Neo Iraq earlier in the Survival Eleven. Hype isn't the proper word, but there is clearly interest in what will happen next, both for the country, and young fighter Kydan Kassan."
"And what about for this fight, Rick?"
"Guilliaume Stadium is going to be the biggest factor on this fight. Neo China clearly has an edge in the smaller confines thanks to the weapons and armor of the Guan Yu Gundam. The Hamidiye is a more conventional design for military purposes, and that served it well before, but that may hurt it here."
"Of course, it's Peshmarga attack could be very effective, if used at the proper time."
"Oh, no question about that, Jerry, it could be a real game changer. Hassan has some serious weapons, but he's going to have to work to get the better of Li-Zhang Ma today. This should be an excellent fight."
"Couldn't agree more, Rick. When we return, we'll take you down to ground level where Neo Kurdistan and Neo China are just about ready to go, here on ESPN 5!"

-Kydan Kassan-

This set up sucked... He was in a pretty open setting with no cover and nowhere to run. But at least he had arrived first. This meant he could set himself up for the first attack. So dropping to one knee the beam assault rifle was pointed at the Neo China's entrance and the cock was pulled back engaging the energy transfer.

"I hate to do this but I can't risk letting this go forward."

He planned to shoot his enemy just as the match began by keeping a trained eye on it. Even if the enemy gundam fighter realized what was going on and tried to move, Kydan being a trained gunman would still fire and take it down. This was going to end quick...

OOC: Li-Zhang Ma
---

As his Gundam's Mobile Trace system finalized its startup, Li performed a few compact fist strikes in order to gauge his suit's responsiveness. He then began to 'walk' his suit toward the hangar exit, where the Stadium and his opponent waited. Neo China officials gave the usual pep talk, which Li promptly ignored as he thought about his opponent.

"His nation's status matters not. This war veteran will definitely be different over the pure fighters like myself. Now then..."

As his suit emerged out into the relatively small, open stadium, he immediately noticed the Hamidiye Gundam already down on one knee and beam rifle aimed straight at him. Li didn't even blink as he crouched down slightly and drew his arms close so his hands held the handles of both of his jians.

"Going to try to end this quick, aren't you?" he thought as he switch to the general frequency.

Then he spoke calmly despite having a beam rifle aimed at him, "Gundam Fight...Ready..."

"NOW PERISH!" Kydan yelled as he engaged the full auto function on the beam assault rifle and unleashed a well controlled burst of beam pellets at the seemingly ready enemy Gundam. He would have be ready as Kydan planned to make this match quick and relatively painless for himself. What happened to the Neo China pilot made no difference to him.

Having dealt with a few fighters wielding ranged weaponry previously, Li reacted swiftly. He lunged to his right while simultaneously drawing and igniting both jians and swung them in a rapid defensive arc in front of him. His blades deflected a majority of the burst of beam fire, while a few disparate ones nicked armor plates on his left shoulder, arm, and legs. Li felt the hits via feedback as light pricks but ignored them as there was no indication of any critical joint damage.

His lunge carried him to the right and slightly forward. As soon as his right foot touched the arena ground, he shifted his weight and dashed forward, towards the Hamidiye's left, left jian held pointed toward the opponent, with the right jian held parallel but above.

Re: 4GFFG: Round One: Neo Kurdistan Neo China

The Hamidiye wasn't a slouch after all its name came from the Kurdish Calvary employed by the Ottomans at a time when Islam seemed like it could really conquer the world. And while his machine was armored it was able to move. So as the enemy went into a dash with an obvious attempt to impale him and if he tried to dodge cut him half, he had other plans. Instead of leaping to the side and into the second saber's path the gundam dived and then rolled underneath the outstretched sword and moving past the Neo Chinese machine with a tumble. But once behind the large guns in the shoulders opened up and blazed at his foe from behind as Kydan attempted to get back up to his feet and readjust himself back on his opponent.

OOC: Just letting you know that Li didn't make a direct attack, as I assumed the range was still just a little beyond reach. ^^

----

As Li attempted to close into melee range, his opponent dove forward and rolled past him. Li stopped his dash and immediately crouched down as low as possible. Machine cannon rounds blasted overhead by a mere meter as he sheathed his left jian. Then Li spun in place on his left foot, as his suit's right foot (w/now-activated heat footpad) swung swiftly towards the Hamidiye's legs.

Re: 4GFFG: Round One: Neo Kurdistan Neo China

Problem with the kick was that Kydan was still low to the ground and using his rifle as a shield knocked the kick aside, with the butt of the gun, avoiding the heat part of the attack. His ability to adapt to the situation and spot things out of the ordinary allowed him to notice the fact that certain part of the leg was capable of burning through targets.

Once the kick was deflected the Kurdish gundam was leap back firing the large caliber shoulder guns down on his foes while preparing for a counter attack. His foe was a melee fighter but Kydan wasn't a slouch either. His rifle, with the equip bayonet, could be used as a pole arm and he still had plenty of heat combat knives to employ. For now he was just trying to whittle his foe down and prevent intense retaliation.

Re: 4GFFG: Round One: Neo Kurdistan Neo China

Li immediately felt his kick become deflected and responded by using the grounded left leg to launch his suit (with the help of verniers) into a torso-axial roll, which allowed him to avoid most of the cannon rounds once more. (though several rounds chipped armor from his left leg plating)

"How enjoyable. He'd been trying to control this battle from the beginning, and his experience shows," Li thought as he retaliated. He sheathed his right jian before firing a burst of 75mm shells from his head-mounted vulcans toward the Hamidiye's right side as he drew his Guan Dao, which extended to full length and the edge of its alloy blade igniting...

Re: 4GFFG: Round One: Neo Kurdistan Neo China

Kydan wasn't liking how this match was moving along. He needed to end this quickly because the way it was moving was moving against his own interests. So bringing his arms up the bulky armor of the Hamidiya took the vulcans head on. Unlike his own heavy machine-cannons these were light multi-barrel weapons that while clipping armor wouldn't penetrate much else besides missiles and exposed sensory equipment. That didn't make the pain go away as it felt like he was being helped with rocks.

But standing up the Kurdish gundam throw its arms back showing it was still standing and then prepared to challenge the chinese machine as it drew its largest weapon. So in response Kydan brandished his rifle like a pole arm and decided to make the first move as the gundam charged into battle. His plan? To prepare for the enemy to strike with the halberd like weapon and then use the rifle to block it along the staff, avoiding the beam edged itself. That thing would cut through his weapon almost instantly and he knew that. He would avoid the blade as all costs and once the first blow was made he planned parry the pole arm aside and drive the anti-beam bayonet into the enemy.

The Vulcan fire, as expected, didn't do much, especially to the more heavily-armored Hamidiye. He nodded respectfully toward his opponent as the Hamidiye readied its bayonet.

Li carefully closed in before thrusting forward as a feint with two short jabs that didn't not extend beyond even half the length of the Guan Dao before twisting around and following up with a thrust with the blunt end of the Guan Dao towards the Hamidiye's right wrist.

Re: 4GFFG: Round One: Neo Kurdistan Neo China

Fainting with the dao didn't bother Kydan as he had the anti-beam bayonet at prepared for when the weapon actually came close to attack. Instead he just pulled to the side and then would react to the twist by twisting with the enemy and following its movements. This meant as the chinese gundam thrusted the blunt side Kydan was able to parry with the butt of his rifle and then made his own move.

Upon parrying Kydan then attempted to move the blunt end down towards the ground where he would stomp on the pole to snap it at the middle. Then would follow up with a blaze of heavy machine-cannon fire as well as vulcan fire at the Chinese machine from close up.

Li felt the butt end of his Guan Dao get parried and the Hamidiye stepped on it. Rather than fight the entirety of the Gundam's weight, Li let go and let the Guan Dao drop to the ground. As he did so, he lunged forward and twisted, with his left shoulder/arm plates covering his front.

Cannon fire pelted and broke several plates as the near point-blank fire tore through the relatively light armor. Then he threw a heated uppercut with his right hand, right towards the Hamidiye's midsection.

Re: 4GFFG: Round One: Neo Kurdistan Neo China

The moment he was looking for. The energy sensors in his Hamidiye went off as the Neo Chinese gundam turned in after dropping the staff and lit his hands on fire, sorta. This created a situation where Kydan was forced to rely on instincts as the rifle was replaced with the anti-beam cloak being snapped from his shoulders.

"Peshmerga..." The cloak then came down ontop of the enemy gundam as the Kurdish fighter brought the heat resistant anti-beam side down to cover his foe and prevent the heat palm to inflict any damage to the machine on the other side. But the blunt force of the palm did connect but instead of being thrown the heavier gundam drew a heat knife from his waist and then with an overhand motion drove it down towards the neck of the enemy machine and if connecting would drive down. This plan was almost perfect as the chinese fighter couldn't break through the cloak that was now covering him and Kaydan was attacking through the non-beam side so his heat weapon should make it through and pierce the enemy putting him out of commission.

Re: 4GFFG: Round One: Neo Kurdistan Neo China

Despite his dire circumstances, Li refrained from panicking. As soon as the cloak covered him, he knew it would deter his beam and heat weapons based on the indirect impact of his right fist against the Hamidiye. He could feel the 'killing' blow coming down from the Hamidiye as he turned his focus toward the arena ground.

Rather than fight against the cloak, Li rapidly in succession slashed the arena flooring with a heated right foot, opening a small gap, before sliding back by pushing with his left foot. The slip was not smooth as the cloak tugged against his suit. He twisted his torso in the process as the heat knife made contact. He grimaced as he felt his left shoulder explode with a hot and sharp pain.

As he pulled back from the cloak, he fired a burst from his Vulcans toward the Hamidiye as he quickly assessed the damage. The left shoulder plating was pretty much ruined and the knife dug deep enough to damage the shoulder joint.

He had his foe... And like a predator attracted to a wounded prey Kydan pushed his offense hard. Gripping the cloak with his free hand wrapped it back around while charging his foe. Dipping in the Hamidiya absorbed the vulcan fire with his arms before grabbing the beam assault rifle from the ground.

"Give up before I finish you off..." He asked pointing the rifle at his damaged foe but before his foe could respond Kydan pulled the full auto and sprayed the room in front of him with beam fire making escape pretty difficult.

Li knew his opponent had the upper hand as the Hamidiye prepared to fire its rifle.

"But doing no less than my best is the way to show him my respect..." he thought, eyes closed, as he found his focal point of serenity. Then his eyes opened and he said, "Dragon's Fury!"

The interior of the cockpit began to glow a fiery red, just as the Hamidiye's beam rifle began to go full-auto. Li moved rapidly forward and to his right while staying low. He felt a number of rounds hit, breaking and shattering more armor plating, and further damaged the left arm...even his left head-mounted Vulcan was knocked out of commission. All of this damage he roundly ignored as he quickly ignited and threw one of his beam jians toward the knees of the Hamidiye before launching himself into the air (while taking several more hits).

He roared out as he launched a flying right heated kick toward the base of the Hamidiye's head.

Re: 4GFFG: Round One: Neo Kurdistan Neo China

The jian would slash into the anti-beam cloak that surrounded him cutting through the material as Kydan spun to prevent being cut in half. He had been utterly surprised by the sudden glowing and as the enemy leaped into the air to deliver its super hot kick all the Hamidiya could do was raise its arms, as well as the deteriorating cloak as the kick crashed into his block causing the heavy gundam to be driven across the field. Even if he had avoided the heat, which had left a boot print in his cloak, the impact had been enough to shake him badly.

Quickly he would attempt to stand up and fire what was left of his ballistic ammunition at the machine in hopes of deterring it from coming back after him. There wasn't much he could to but block the attacks since there wasn't much counter attacking available.

Li let out short, heavy breaths as he rebounded off the Hamidiye's arms. The cockpit remained red as heat began to build up in the interior. The exterior began to steam as the heat vaporized the moisture around the Gundam. Then he hopped to the right before dashing in once more, pressing the attack. Inbound Vulcan rounds tore what was left of the left arm, but Li quickly adjusted to the change in weight.

Then he threw a right roundhouse punch, aimed at the left side of the Hamidiye's head. But before it could connect, the fist yawed to the left and down into the ground. Balancing on his remaining hand, Li swung both of his legs around and scissor kicked towards the left arm and torso of his opponent.

Kydan realized things were getting way out of his control. The enemy gundam came charging at him again as the Hamidiye. This time Kydan had no intention of getting pumbled without fighting back. The enemy appeared to be going for a haymaker but instead of blocking Kydan went low and then drove his bayonet equip beam rifle up at the enemies chest even as the enemy made a really strange change in plans. His thrust missed as the chinese fellow seemed to spin on his hand and deliver a kick that went right over his head.

"What the hell?" He asked wiping the bayonet around attempt to swipe the chest before the enemy could get off its hands and return the attack.
