"I'm okay. A little hungry," Michiko giggled, waving to Marvin.

Fritz nodded and turned to Eckardy. "This is hard on these kids. Cowboy looks worse than usual and we're not even at Gryps."

Michiko sighed. "Jacob hasn't been the same since..." She glanced at Celeste and seemed to stumble over her words, "...since the Gate of Zedan. He's convinced he has to find that blue mobile suit." Eddie thought about that for a moment, thinking about the reports about some suped up Marasai-thing.

Fritz responded with a sad nod. "We'll have to keep a close eye on him. I'm not making the same mistake again."

Eddie shrugged and took on serious tone. "Looks can be deceiving. Cowboy was pretty bad a few weeks back, but I, well, me and Ian," He added quickly, "We talked to 'em a couple a times an he's been seem'd better." Eddie grinned returned to his usual less serious tone of voice. "With him, it's just being in a crowd with all you people. He's still the shyest kid I ever met." Eddie noted, reminding everyone, and himself, just how shy Marvin had normally been.

The new pilot they'd noticed earlier came over. "Lieutenant Commander Ashlyn? I was told to report to you and a Lieutenant Curren."

Eddie waved a finger at Wes. "That's Curren," he told the new pilot.

"Get up kid. I told ya you shouldn't wander around with an empty stomach. Particularly after training all morning..day, or night..or whatever the HELL time it is around here! Gee, I've never noticed those before. I wonder how many it takes to.."

Terrace looked at Bernard. He wondered if maybe he had hit his head because he couldn't figure out why Bernard was staring at the lights in the hangar after trailing off mid sentence.

"Umm, sir?" he began while getting up, "Are you okay?"

- Sick Bay -

After being excused from the mess hall Sophie made her way as fast as she could to sick bay. As she walked she rushed past the doctor and stopped in her tracks seeing Rem in the hospital bed.

"Rem...." she began but then went silent. Dr. M was already there and talking to him. How long had Rem been here before she found out. The time between the alarm and Fritz showing up at the mess hall was all a blur now. "I... I'll wait till you are done talking with the Dr...."
"Kamille, if it wasn't for you...." Jerid's last words

Wes paid little attention to the chatter that went on at his table as he continued to glance over the papers. He wasn't sure why, considering the plan hasn't changed much from when Eddie had him look through the entire briefing himself earlier (frankly, this was perhaps only time all that taking in all that information came in handy). He figured it was the newfound sense of responsibility he gained by becoming the head honcho of Team 3, or at least something like that. In either case, he didn't divert his eyes from the files until Fritz mentioned that the new transfer had walked in.

"Ah..." he responded then thought, "Nothing special... hopefully he's a half-decent pilot at the very least."

When Michiko walked over he gave an almost unnoticeable wave of acknowledgment before turning back to his papers. He looked over them for no longer than two minutes before getting sidetracked again when the transfer showed up at their table.

"Lieutenant Commander Ashlyn? I was told to report to you and a Lieutenant Curren."

Before Wes could respond, Eddie already pointed over saying, "That's Curren." Wes simply nodded and shrugged.

"Yep, that's me," he said.

Bernard continued to stare at the lights until Terrace spoke up, "Now that's funny I could of.."

"Umm, sir? Are you okay?" the young pilot asked. Bernard turned his attention to Terrance and saw that he was okay. "I'm fine. It's the small things in life that we usually miss. Things that we take for granted...like being healthy one minute and sick the next," he said with a smile. He started to walk off then stopped and looked back almost as if he forgot something. Bernard's focus went back to the young pilot, "Well, let's go Kai. We need to find out who's in charge of team 3."

When Sophie entered sick bay Dr. M was saying, "No, no, no. Don't you mind that now. I'll have a chat with our superiors and they won't dare touch your contract. We just have to fix those hands of yours and then--". "Sophie," Rem said, looking past the doctor. His bandaged hands rose from his lap and then feebly dropped back to the covers; it was so frustrating, he couldn't use them for anything yet. "Rem...." she said, slipping past the staff to come closer to his bed, "I... I'll wait till you are done talking with the Dr...". "Oh, no," Merkwürdigliebe chuckled, backing away, "I was just, eh, finishing anyway. Don't let me keep you two apart,". Dr. Lekarz reacted similarly, hurriedly finishing up what he was doing close to Rem's bed. "I'll be back after I make my rounds," he said, smiling at Rem and Sophie.

After the two doctors had left them with relative privacy, Rem's shoulders slumped and he said, "I feel like such an idiot. And I must have scared you to death,".

"Looks can be deceiving. Cowboy was pretty bad a few weeks back, but I, well, me and Ian, we talked to 'em a couple a times an he's been seem'd better," Eddie said, explaining Marvin's mood. Eddie grinned returned to his usual less serious tone of voice, "With him, it's just being in a crowd with all you people. He's still the shyest kid I ever met,". "LtCmdr. Ashlyn? I was told to report to you and a Lt. Curren," Wales asked, approaching the table. Fritz nodded in the affirmative as Eddie waved a finger at Wes. "That's Curren," he said. "Yep, that's me," Wes confirmed with a shrug. Michiko leaned forward and surveyed the tray Wales was carrying. "Can I have your cake?" she asked sweetly. "I'll let Wes handle you for now," Fritz chuckled, "But things shouldn't be too complicated. You should have already been briefed on Operation Maelstrom, so you just have to get used to a new mobile suit and a new team,".

- Hangar -

Alfred absentmindedly nursed a pouch of water while he looked down at the team's MS from a walkway near the main hangar exit. Randy had come and gone again earlier to speak with the mechanics, but he had been mostly left to himself. He heard the sound of two women talking to each other and turned to watch them enter the hangar, and was surprised to see Irene escorting the new pilot. Emington told him a transfer was being done, and he had briefly spoken with Mart before the man had left, but he didn't know their new wingmate was already aboard. He hurriedly checked the state of his "uniform", straightening his rumpled sleeveless jacket and regretting the decision to not change earlier. He shyly made his way over to the two girls and found a quiet moment to step forward into the conversation. "Uh, hi," he said to Paris, trying out an awkward smile that he hadn't felt for too long, "I'm Al Izuruha. I guess we'll be flying together at Gryps,".

“Him again? Don’t tell me that he manage to leave that kind of impression to you?” Irene chuckled. “Well personally I don’t really know him that much. But I heard that…”

And they talked further regarding this and that, didn’t really realize one of their team member quietly tugged behind. Alfred greeted them and quickly introduced himself to Paris. That left Irene a bit surprised, she never saw Al being this social before.

"I'm Al Izuruha. I guess we'll be flying together at Gryps,".

“Ah, yes. Paris this is Alfred, he’s also a pilot.” And then to Alfred, “Alfred, this is Ens. Paris Carter, she's going to be our new team member.” Cheerfully she said, "It’s good to see you in high spirit Alfred.”

"Oh, no, I was just, eh, finishing anyway. Don't let me keep you two apart," said Dr. M.

Dr. Lekarz then added with a smile "I'll be back after I make my rounds."

The was a brief silence after the Doctors left them alone.

"I feel like such an idiot. And I must have scared you to death," Rem said as Sophie said at the same time:

"You're such an idiot, I thought you died!" She got quiet again and raised a hand to her mouth. "I'm sorry, you're hurt and I shouldn't yell at you." Stepping closer to the bed she looked Rem in the eyes, "That was very brave, what you did."

New Yark - Personal Quarters

Ethan sat up, the sounds of his alarm clock ringing unmercifully. He punched the alarm clock, realizing that did nothing, and finally pushed the snooze button.

"Man, oh man, work time already?" He said to himself, ruffling his hair. He grabbed his uniform, and went to take a shower, during which he decided to reflect upon his arrival to the command of the AEUG's 4th Advance Squadron.

It had been during the 4th's reorganization and repair at Amman, where Ethan was currently stationed. A letter had passed hands, and finally found its way into Ethan's hands. These were his orders: to join the 4th Advance Squadron and assist them in any way he could. He found his new orders stressful, he had just been transferred to Amman as a test pilot, and now found himself on the front lines of war.

He stepped out of the shower, got dressed and put on his gunmetal shades and stepped out into the hallway.

"With great enthusiasm, here I come!"

Meeting Room
"Sorry, I know I'm late, what did I miss?" Ethan said, walking through the door nonchalantly.

"Who's Kai?"

"Huh?" Bernard looked back with a look of regret before continuing with a smile. "OH. He was standing behind you...guess he's gone now," he answered as he reached a wall monitor. Punching up a few keys brought up a roster of squads which revealed nothing.
"Guess it hasn't been updated yet," he said with a dismayed look.

Disheartened by having no information he picked up a receiver and rang the bridge for an update. It was way too close to the battle to start over with a new C.O.

Paris was surprised when the pilot, Alfred Izuruha was his name, came out and introduced himself. Not because someone was greeting her, because that made sense since she was new, but because of how this pilot looked. He had a shabby appearance that looked like he had recently been through a lot and he had this uncomfortable way of floating in gravity that made it seem that either he wasn’t used to space or he was very uncomfortable talking to her. Which was kind of cute. Paris smiled, the shabby appearance, mixed with the awkwardness of stance and smile, made Paris take an instant liking to Alfred.

Being raised on run down transports her whole life made Paris have a taste for the broken and shabby things, then after joining the AEUG and being surrounded by pristine and official rules, people, and ships, seeing a pilot's appearance tha matched her childhood was a breath of fresh air.

“Yeah, I guess we will,” Paris held out a hand for Alfred to shake. “I am Ensign Paris Carter; it is wonderful to meet you.”

"You're such an idiot, I thought you died!". Sophie got quiet again and raised a hand to her mouth. "I'm sorry, you're hurt and I shouldn't yell at you," she apologized, stepping closer to the bed to look Rem in the eyes. "That was very brave, what you did," she said. Rem's gaze dropped from hers to his hands in his lap. "That's what they keep telling me..." he muttered. That didn't seem to make him feel much better about his situation, but he sighed again and looked back up at her with a weak smile finally growing on his lips. "I'm sorry. I've been so busy since we left Amman that it must seem like I was ignoring you. That's the last thing I want," he grinned feebly, wincing slightly now that his adrenaline and the drugs were having a harder time dulling his pain.

- Mess Hall -

"Yeah I've been briefed on Maelstrom" Ingleshard answered, hesitating at Michiko's request. He looked at her for a second and then down at his cake before relenting, "Uh... sure, why not?". "Ooh, thank you!" Michiko cheeped, neatly plucking the serving of dessert from his tray. He sat his now-lighter tray down on the table next to Wes and asked, "I assume it's alright if I sit here?". Fritz tapped the folder Eddie had sat on the table and mused, "How much do you want to bet the numbers in here are all wrong? We're going to have to wade through the rest of the Titans and half of Axis to get to that laser...".

- Bridge -

A light on Filmore's station lit up and blinked rapidly as a phone station in the hangar buzzed for his attention. Hitting a switch, his headset was connected to Korbel's handset. "This is Ens. Korbel, Team Three. Our team leader is down, who do we report to?" he asked. Filmore drummed his fingers on his computer panel for a moment as he flipped through a backlog of orders for a moment. "Hey, Bernard - I'm glad you weren't calling me about another accident down there. Team Three CO is Lt. Curren now. Don't know where he is at the moment," Hayes answered, leaning back in his seat.

Al smiled nervously as he got a good reaction from Paris. He shook her hand delicately as she introduced herself. “Yeah, I guess we will. I am Ensign Paris Carter; it is wonderful to meet you,” she said. He could feel his cheeks heating up and tried to ignore it. "Uh, you're a spacenoid too, aren't you?" he blurted, trying to make small talk as they kept walking in the direction her and Irene had been going originally, "I mean you seem, uh, graceful. Like you belong in zero-g, I mean,". He mentally cringed at himself for seeming so clumsy with his words.

- The New Yark -
- Briefing Room -

"Sorry, I know I'm late, what did I miss?" Ethan announced himself, entering the room as Ramon was mid-'lecture'. Hard AE trailed off and looked at Ethan, then at Thibaut and Waclaw. "Say, say, say," he muttered, lowering his sunglasses to look over the top of them at the tiny audience, "Wasn't there another... Just now~...". "No," Thiabut said incredulously, "What do you mean?". "Never mind, hooo~!" Ramon thrusted and shrugged it off. He pointed at the empty seat next to Ens. Waclaw and nodded to Ethan, "Sit and learn, hey!".

New Yark Briefing Room

"Sit and learn, hey!"

Ethan merely smiled and plopped down into the empty seat next to Ens. Waclaw. He examined the diagrams and quickly produced a small pad of paper and a pen, making quick, abbreviated marks from the diagrams.

"This is our Operation...Maelstrom, was it? All I need to know is where to go and what to shoot." Ethan formed a little gun with his left arm, moved his forearm up as if he had fired, and made a BANG sound. He heard small repressed snickers and even found himself giggling.

"Sorry, just figured I'd lighten the mood a little. Please, continue, sir."

if he was surprised by how qucikly and neatly michiko plucked the slice of cake from his tray wales didn't show it, merely glancing back towards the kitchen to see if there were any slices left, rgh can't see from here, turning his attention back towards the group he saw Fritz tap the folder Eddie had sat on the table, "How much do you want to bet the numbers in here are all wrong? We're going to have to wade through the rest of the Titans and half of Axis to get to that laser..." fritz mused out loud.

wales didn't know whether the man was thinking out loud or talking to him specifically but he answered anyway "taking sods law into account sir, i'd bet my kidney that what you suggested is the case, and they'll probably whip out a big mobile armour or something" with that he dug into what was left of his meal, eager to stop hearing his stomach grumble all day.

"I mean you seem, uh, graceful. Like you belong in zero-g, I mean…" Al’s voice trailed off and Paris giggled at how uncomfortable Alfred seemed to be when he was talking to her. She made a mental note to ask Lieutenant Kawamura if he was often like this or was this just because she was a new face. However, given that Al just seemed shabby and awkward in nature; Paris had a feeling that he was the silent type of person.

Paris forced herself to stop giggling so she wouldn’t make it seem that Al that she was making fun of him. Paris nodded, but was still smiling brightly at Al, “Thanks and yes I am one-hundred percent spacenoid. I have lived in space my whole life. My parents flew a transport for a living, so I spent most of my life just floating. Although, the universe cruelly evens out the scales when I am in gravity…I am so clumsy that it goes past funny and enters embarrassing.” Paris cocked her head to the side and looked at Al curiously, “What about you? I assume you’re a spacenoid too. What’s your story?”

The new pilot, Eckardy didn't know his name and couldn't remember if anyone had said it, came over and took a seat, with Michiko swiping his cake, prompting a grin from Eckardy.

"How much do you want to bet the numbers in here are all wrong? We're going to have to wade through the rest of the Titans and half of Axis to get to that laser..." Fritz tapped the folder in front of Eddie, which was actually Korbel's personnel file, but it made his point.

The new man spoke up. "Taking sods law into account sir, I'd bet bet my kidney that what you suggested is the case, and they'll probably whip out a big mobile armor or something," at which point he promptly starting attacking his food.

"Ugh, business," Eddie sighed, "Well, if you believe those numbers on the Axis Zekes, they've got enough cannon fodder to just flood everyone until we run out of ammo." Eddie paused for a moment, knowing it felt being on the other side of that. The reports they had was Axis' main mobile suit, a pink transforming unit whose name he forgot, was that it was largely junk, but the official estimates put their numbers anywhere from nearly two hundred machines to nearly a thousand, plus the possibility of other machines. How the AEUG had ever come up with any of the data they'd been given was something Eddie would liked to have known...

"But hey," Eddie grinned, "When was the last time our intel was right on s***? They've probably got a bunch of ships sittin' around Gryps, which is just what we want, right?" Eddie pointed out. The battle plan seemed half crazy to him, but after everything he had seen in this war, and the previous one, they all did.

The new guy sat down, but not before Michiko managed to take his cake. Wes looked into the file again to check his name. Wales...

"How much do you want to bet the numbers in here are all wrong? We're going to have to wade through the rest of the Titans and half of Axis to get to that laser..." Fritz tapped the folder in front of Eddie. The rookie then spoke up, "Taking sods law into account sir, I'd bet my kidney that what you suggested is the case, and they'll probably whip out a big mobile armor or something," and started to eat.

"Ugh, business," Eddie sighed, "Well, if you believe those numbers on the Axis Zekes, they've got enough cannon fodder to just flood everyone until we run out of ammo. But hey, when was the last time our intel was right on s***? They've probably got a bunch of ships sittin' around Gryps, which is just what we want, right?"

Wes put down the papers before poking around what was left of his burger. If the numbers were right, they were looking at fighting quite an uphill battle. It was even worse than he had originally thought, and now he had to watch over his own team this time.

"Eh... in either case it just means we have to finish them off as quickly as possible so we won't let their numbers overwhelm us," Wes said. "Just makes them B-Types and Kanones all the more useful in this situation. Dealing a ton of collateral damage goes a long way in helping us pull this off. The only problem is my machine isn't exactly built for stamina if things drag on for too long."
