Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

Polynikes had not taken part in the parade. Although he'd taken a place at the banquet hall, dressed in his uniform that looked very much like a combination of modern attire and an ancient Greek toga, he was there mostly in silence, having little in the way of things to say to the other Gundam Fighters. He'd brought two members of his Neo-Agoge unit: Xeones, a young foreigner who'd joined only recently, but showed some promise to the point that Polynikes had adopted him as his personal attendant and squire; and Ioanna, one of the suit technicians that the Neo-Greece government had sent along with him. The pair seemed to be hitting it off fairly well, a fact Polynikes made a note of to track, lest it become a problem at a later date.

His Gundam was stored not far away, protected by both members of the Neo-Greece military, whom Polynikes had little faith in, but also by members of his Neo-Agoge, whom he had the utmost faith in. Not that he expected any foul play; for the most part, the Gundam Fighters seemed a relatively honorable bunch, and Polynikes allowed himself a small smile at the chance to be amongst such warriors. Still, he'd seen no need to expose his unit to the eyes of his opponents and give them forewarning to his abilities. They'd learn soon enough, at the end of his dory.

He took a seat near the head of the table, by that of his gracious host who seemed far less interested in the event as a whole, something Polynike's could, at least, relate to. The spartiate warrior waited a moment before speaking, hoping to engage his fellow fighter in a bit of banter.

"So, I have heard rumors that you fight with a shield and polearm, a combination my people can relate to quite well. It is nice to see a warrior here other then some eastern martial artist, and instead one who uses the cold martial power of steel."

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

After the parade Franz returned the Knict to the hangar that had been provided for Neo England. Several gurads were stationed both inside and out, as a precautionary measure just in case someone got any ideas. Walking outside Franz was escorted to a limousine which would take him to the castle where all the gundam fighters were gathering for a banquet.

Ariving in the main hall Franz was announced aloud to those that were all ready gathered. Moving swiftly and with purpose he sat down in an open chair next to Neo Greece's fighter. This was just in time to hear the fighter speak praise of the 'cold martial power of steel' as he had put it. At this Karl sneered as he raised a cup of tea that had been prepared for him and slowly sipped at it.

The Knict was also one of the seemingly few gundams that didn't relly on some martial art. Instead he had chosen to keep with histroy and trust his armor and weapons as knights had done years before him. It had been effective for them and lasted for many centuries. Without a word Franz put down the tea and then started to eat a bit at the food prepared. As far as he was concerned he didn't need to start a conversation with any of these other fighters at the momment.

Prince Schlotiem raised his glass to Polynikes and smiled rather kindly. "You may be surprised to learn that, I was actually trained in Neo Athens." Schlotiem took a sip of his wine before placing it down on the table. "I don't think it's that odd to see a fighter from a non oriental country using a non oriental way of combat." Schlotiem glanced the Neo English fighter that had chose to sit so close to him and Polynikes, before returning to the man from Neo Greek.

"How well did you fare in the semi finals? Not a single machine dared enter the country of Neo Luxembourg, It gave me ample time to train. Yet I feel as if I was cheated."

Big D Stedmore was voracious he was a big guy and an even bigger eater. The hungry Canadian seemingly did not need to even chew his food as he managed to swallow morsel after morsel . The big Goal keeper wiped some chicken grease onto his jersey as he cracked open a can of beer. The Neo Canadian fighter was in some kind of euphoric heaven.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

The fighter for Neo-Kurdistan seemed the most reserved as he politely ate his food. He had chosen to eat whatever the chefs cooked because where he was from the guest always showed respect to their host by partaking in whatever they offered. Though a nice coffee was provided to him to drink.

The young Kyden had gotten a lot of flak from other fighters during the battle with Neo Iraq during the semi-finals and claimed he had broken the rules by kill its pilot. But the refs had decided it was an accidental death brought on by the Iraqi pilot himself. Kyden himself would beg to differ but he kept his mouth shut and accepted the ruling cause it brought his little nation one step closer to winning this tournament.

He had so far kept out of the line of fire from the other fighters by remaining quiet and behind the crowd but with the finals coming up it wouldn't be long because everyone knew his name. and what a name that would be when he won this thing and made his recently independent nation ruler over all.

After leaving his Gundam to a delegated squad of Neo-China soldiers, Li proceeded in with the other Fighters to the motorpool, which led them to the new-yet-archaic castle of the Guillaume family. He was then directed to his seat, where he carefully swept the back flap of his changshan out of the way before sitting down. Then the food was brought out; it was quite a variety of dishes from all over the Earth and the respective colonies. It was obvious that their hosts pulled no stops for this event.

He waited until several others began to partake in the diverse feast before he took his own portions. He mainly took moderate portions of the simpler Chinese dishes with the exception of a good helping of the spicy and strongly-favored Mapo Tofu. The heat from the sauces almost made the air blur ever so slightly. He carefully took some tofu and ate it carefully.

"The ingredients are no doubt from Neo-China, but something about the way it was cooked. It's passable, though not as good as Hong's food stall," he thought as he reminisced briefly about the homely little food stall at a backroad he happened to stumble across. Regardless, Li continued to eat the food at a moderate, clean pace and make sure to finish whatever he took, as it would only be proper, given the extent to which their host went. The other fighters talked and ate in their own unique ways, like that Neo-Canadian two seats down, who seemed to be not holding back and took full enjoyment of this meal.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

After getting off the float and trusting her staff with the care of the Gundam, Rin took a quick limo ride to Chateau Guillaume. Achieving Idol status as a result of being in the national spotlight had some unexpected benefits, one being she was now a master of the quick-change. So, when she stepped out she was no longer wearing her Kimono, rather she was wearing heels with a double slit dress make of rich red silk with a white circle displayed at about knee height as the single concession to her nationality; and she made it look good.
Rin was seated and already two Yamazaki single malts in while nibbling on the delightful fare placed before her when she overheard Polynikes;
"...It is nice to see a warrior here other then some eastern martial artist, and instead one who uses the cold martial power of steel."
A few seats down, across from the Neo-Chinese fighter, Rin snorted into her third drink, <"Arrogant fool wouldn't know marital prowess if it came up and smacked him in the face with his own spear."> she muttered in her native tongue, doubting anyone save the Ryūkyūs woman would understand her. Her fox's grin appeared slowly as she thought of a related joke her Sensei once had told her. "Hey, where were the first doughnuts made?" she asked in English to no one in particular, her slight accent that wasn't there before being the only concession to the whiskey. "In grease!" she said after a heartbeat and gestured towards Polynikes.

Everyone at that table was lucky that Rin had chosen to tell her joke during the brief millisecond that Marcus did not have pasta or wine in his mouth, otherwise there would have been a dreadful mess when he laughed. The timing of the retort and his consumption of wine had caused him to burst out laughing and forget his previous argument with Reaper.

Regaining composure, he asked Polynikes in Greek before he stuck a meatball in his mouth: "In all honesty, why still use steel? I think my fight with the Neo Norwegian fighter proved that energy blades definitely best old-fashioned steel."

Dave let out a loud whalloop from his end of the table after the well timed joke and continued to pour maple syrup all over his pancakes.

Schlotiem smiled at the joke and interjected rather quickly trying to avoid any kind of confrontation. "I do not think our friend means steel in the literal sense, but the traditional thought of 'steel' representing ancient weapon techniques. I'm certain he meant no disrespect towards the many warriors who practice traditional hand to hand combat." The prince motioned to Rin from neo Japan before he continued.
"I'm sure Polynikes is a practitioner of pankration, he must be. Now if that isn't a martial art i don't know what is."

A shout from down the table erupted from David Stedmore. "I didn't need no fancy schmancy crotty to get here! You need real power, speed and a killer instinct, I don't see how any kung fu can teach ya how to take a blow to the nogging and keep on rockin!"

"No but fighting a real war does..." Came a young voice for someone eating a piece of meat from what appeared to be a roasted chicken. Everyone could look and see a scarred young man in a tattered cloak. Attached to a sheath around his chest was a nasty looking combat knife.

"True martial arts is one that can take your enemy down without you yourself getting killed in the process." This came out nonchalantly as he put another small piece of roasted chicken into his mouth followed by a sip of black coffee.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

Chris Anderson sat at the far end of the table, largely seperated from most of the other Gundam Fighters. Like the parade earlier in the day, the banquet was a unique combination of something he was used to, but with a lot of crazy stuff thrown in. He'd been to a number of similar events in Neo America, but they'd usually been fancy affairs where he'd been forced to wear a suit and eat politely.

Today wasn't exactly the case. Although he wasn't pigging out like Stedmore down the table, who Anderson knew fairly well from several spars over the years, Chris wasn't trying to be hugely polite either. Really, it was like he was eating with family, he thought as he finished his fifth slice of pizza and decided to pass on another. He hadn't been paying attention to the other foods, and didn't know jack about half of them anyway, but he'd been pleasantly surpised that they'd brought out something like pizza.

And they hadn't forced Anderson to dress up either. He detested wearing a suit, and had only done it when required, which was basically trips to the White House and a handful of team gatherings in the off season. Instead, Anderson was allowed to wear his jersey and jeans. It was all combining to make him feel rather at ease.

Two of the Neo America Support Team had tagged along, and since they had seated themselves well away from everyone else, no one had minded that they had taken seats. Crusoe sat to Chris' left, impassively observing everything going on at the banquet, while considering the team's press conference that was currently planned for the next afternoon. Roosevelt sat to Chris' right, and unlike Valerie, Cabbie was eating with Anderson and the two were chatting.

Anderson took a sip from a can of Dr. Pepper, wondering if it was a coincidence that they had served something that was sponsoring Neo America's Gundam Fighter. "So, was it like this with Philadel?" Anderson asked.

Cabbie nodded and swallowed his mouthfull of food. "Pretty much. Neo Greece did stuff sortsa likes this, but in one of those billion years old buildings. We didn't eats much though, us mechanics spent most of the start of that fight working on the Freedom."

Anderson snorted at the mention of Neo America's second Gundam. "I never liked that thing."

Roosevelt grinned as he picked up another slice of pizza, his seventh of the night. "Oh, if you think the QB is hard to keeps running, you shouldsa seen that thing! We rebuilt it two or three times. Hell, it never would have survived those hits you took against Neo Somalia."

Anderson sat back, slightly suprised. "Really? The Gundam took more damage when we beat Neo France," he pointed out.

"But it wasn'ts as severe. Reallys, that fight you had with Vietnam would'sa ruined the Freedom. That thing gots by cause Phil was crazy." Cabbie gave a wide grin before stuffing his mouth with pizza. Anderson chuckled quietly to himself and took another drink, empting the can of Dr. Pepper. As soon as he set it down, a waiter replaced it with a new one, to which Anderson nodded his thanks. He glanced up and down the table, not really catching, or caring, about most of what was being discussed by the other fighters.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

Dieter walked into the banquet hall still loudly arguing with some member of the castle's security. Ignoring the man pleading for him to walk back through some metal detector he had apparently broken by punching it when it made a noise at him, he flopped down in a seat between the fighters from Neo Japan and Neo Canada. He loudly sucked his teeth at the spread of wonderfully prepared foods and plucked a sausage from the plate closest to him. Instead of using a plate or utensils he held it in his hand and tore off a big bite as he looked over at the tipsy girl from Neo Japan. "Not bad," he commented, leaning back a bit to get a good look at all of her. And another look. And one last one for good measure, combined with a wink.

He reached for something to quench his thirst without looking, and a nervous butler scurried up to the table to put a beverage in his grasping hand. Dieter took a gulp and then froze in place, the can of Molson Neo Canadian hovering in front of his lips as a grimace slowly formed on his face. With a loud noise of disgust he spit out the mouthful of beer in a long stream like a fountain, most of it clearing the table and hitting the floor opposite him. "Ugh! Vas is this piss you bring me? You like to play jokes?" he grunted, crushing the can and tossing it at the retreating servant.

"Dieter, please!" Aiko scolded as she entered the room. After profusely apologizing to the captain of the guards and offering to send the bill for the broken devices to Volkswagen, she had been allowed to accompany him to the banquet. Meyers just laughed and grabbed the stein that was quickly brought to him. After testing the new beer to make sure it was to his liking, he slammed it down on the table and leaned forward to get a look at the Neo Kurdish fighter sitting quietly on his own. "You there, you're the one from the fake country, right?" he asked rudely. Aiko blushed deeply and immediately apologized to him.

"...I'm sure Polynikes is a practitioner of pankration, he must be. Now if that isn't a martial art I don't know what is."
Rin blinked at the comment, her only sign of surprise, then she laughed.
"Ha-ha!" <"I am impressed,"> She addressed Schlotiem in Japanese, <"What great ears you have. I didn't think you spoke Japanese. I underestimated you sir, and will not make the same mistake twice so you won't 'feel cheated' at our match."> She smiled a delicious grin and then set to trying the Polenta Croquettes about the time Dieter made his 'grand entrance.' His lecherous thrice-over and audacious manners had her calling for another double on the rocks, she was too sober to put up with his presence for the rest of the evening. She eyed Aiko as she took a sip <"I don't see how you can put up with this guy, is he like this all the time?"> Rin asked with a shake of her head after Dieter insulted Kyden.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

Franz chuckled a bit at the banter that was flying across the table. He had eyed each of the new arrivals in turn, noting a few that had caught his interest. Still though he decided not to speak at the moment. Instead Fram quitely ate his meal on the table infront of him.

His attention turned to the young man from Neo Kurdistan who had spoken aloud. 'So he has seen war, eh? That would make him quite the... Experinced opponent. I'll have to see during his first match now won't I?' Franz thought eyes drifting back to observe the rest.

As of the moment most of the other fighters were actually boring the Neo-England fighter. Personally he had expected much more from the ones who had managed to make it this far, but then again he was judging by his standards of course they would fail. Several had started thier own conversations speaking a forgien dialect Franz didn't understand, nor care to. 'Lets do hurry this up.'

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

Li quietly rinsed down his meal with a piping hot cup of oolong tea as he calmly observed the banter that seemed to have started amongst several of the fighters. He mentally cataloged his observations of the other fighters, both those taking part and those remaining on the sidelines in order to build up his understanding of them, as individuals and as fighters. He learned years ago not to assess people based on immediate judgments as he had learned that particular lesson the hard way.

The young Neo-Kurdistan fighter also spoke up during the conversation.

"True Martial Arts, huh. If it were only so easily defined as such," Li thought to himself as the attention shifted toward the Neo-Germany fighter, who pretty much did everything to offend both host and several fighters. Such a disregard for decorum spoke volumes for this Neo-German's fighting style; as it seemed to reflect unorthodox and 'dirty' tactics, but these were merely initial impressions and Li refrained from judging further. He was, however, curious to see if the Neo-Kurdistan fighter would be egged on by Neo-Germany fighter's comment...

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

The comment of the foreign woman seemed to amuse some of the simpler rabble gathered here, but to Polynikes it was both something to be ignored here amongst the company of others; and something to be remembered and dealt back in the arena of battle. He did not need to look back to know that Xeones was seething in a more visible manner; the boy was young, an inexperienced, he could be forgiven for such a reaction. That of the other fighter was far more measured, and the greek fighter could not help but be somewhat impressed by the man; a worthy opponent, even if he had trained in athens.

He sat mostly in silence, enjoying an extremely well-cooked steak of substantial size; he was on a meat-based diet after all; not exactly the most Greek of things, but at the same time it was one of ancient pedigree. The meat based athlete diet was a classic of Olympians. He paused after a savory bite to make a measured response, sipping a glass of wine as he did.

"Amongst other, yes. But I feel far happier with the shaft of a spear or a blade in my hand. But it would be foolish to think one would always have that at hand, however. But I cannot, myself, fathom choosing it over a weapon form." he said, before turning towards the Neo-German fighter with a frown, finding him a brute of the lowest caliber. Yet another foe he mentally marked with a desire to take down, but kept his intentions quite to himself.

"damn these things are uncomfortable" allison muttered to herself as she adjusted the cocktail dress she had been presuaded into wearing, she wanted to keep her leathers on but her brother had insisted she 'wear something nice', she kept her boots on however, as there was no way in hell she'd be caught in heels, she looked to her brother who was walking by her side, stopping when they reached the doors to the dining hall

"well, this is it." her brother said to her before turning around "I have some things to take care of with the tech crews for the gundam" with that he walked off "Oh, and allison, don't glass any waiters this time, please?"
"I'll try, no garuantees" Allison replied as she entered the room, raising an eyebrow at the commotion going on, looking around she saw that the only free seat left was the one facing the fighter from Neo germany, shrugging she walked round the table, stopping only to grab a slice of pizza from the area where Neo America's team was seated, and unceremoniously plopped herself down in the remaining chair, crossing her legs and grabbing a pie with her free hand before propping them on the table, making an audible thunk as her boots made contact while nearly knocking over a wine glass in the process.

"what?" she remarked as she felt more than a few sets of eyes in her direction

"If by fake you mean newly independent then yes I am." He responded with a clarity and disconnection he brushed the blatant insult off without breaking a sweat. "But if your intent is to rile me then I'm afraid your talking to something far above you. Allah has willed me this far and by his good graces I'll be using your body as a stepping stone to greatness." With that he placed another piece of chicken in his mouth followed by grabbing an apple from a platter and taking a bite of it.

"Lets see how that ouff reacts when someone much younger challenges him. I bet it makes his skin crawl." Grinning inside Kyden was enjoying this greatly. But his outside would never betray his true thoughts as years on the front lines had given him great control over his speech and body. Something these folks had never dealt with... true war. This was why the Gundam fight was so important, it would elevate his nation to a spot where they wouldn't have to shed blood for continued peace. It would be their right.

Dieter was distracted by Allison entering the room, and therefore missed part of Kyden's sincere answer. Once he was done gawking, he laughed appreciatively at her natural "manners" that were closer to his than the other fighters. Turning back to Kyden he gave a sort of noncommittal grunt and shrug, "Fake, 'newly independent', whichever you like. Young,". He leaned back in his chair, causing the two front legs to leave the ground. "And if it's a battle of wills between greater powers you're after, you may find mine wield more power here on earth than yours," he added, tapping the VW logo pinned to his suspenders.

He leaned forward rapidly, causing the front legs of the chair to clap against the floor. Leaning forward he peered down the table at the Neo Greek whose gaze he had felt while he was prodding the newcomer. With a sharp laugh, he called down, "I'll bet you feel happier with a shaft in your hand. I know how you Neo Greeks are - even brought one of your boys with you,". He threw his head back and laughed uproariously at his own joke and smacked his hand on the table to call for a refill.

<"I don't see how you can put up with this guy, is he like this all the time?"> Rin asked across Dieter to Aiko. She frowned and elbowed him in the gut, cutting off his loud mouth (at least for the moment). <"Not when he gets serious,"> she answered, glaring at him the get the point of the elbow across, <"I think he's acting like a child to see how you all react. He's the only one here that isn't new to the Gundam Fight.">

Franz put his silverware to the side on a napkin and swallowed the morsal he was eating before picking up his tea for a quick sip. Then he turned his attention towards the Neo-Kurdistan fighter. For the first time in this banqoet he had a question. One that he wanted to voice, above the inopropriate acts of those like Neo-Germany and Neo-Austrialia.

"Excuse me, Neo-Kurdistan Fighter, but how many battles have you been in?" Franz was very interested as the boy had true battle experiance compared to most if not all the rest of them who were limited to this 'contest' as their limit. "That is if you don't mind me asking." Franz did wonder how his experiance would stack up compared to the rest. Especially agianst the larger countires, the super powers, such as his own nation.

"Enough to tell you I've lost a lot of loved ones and friends. You should be thankful you've had rules to govern your conflict otherwise these Gundam fights wouldn't mean anything." Was all he said knowing that the entire place questioned his experience and his will to do this. His gundam was ready and he was ready to show them all his strength and the strength of a heart forged by true conflict.
