Identifying UC firearms

I was watching Unicorn Gundam the other day and the handgun used by Zinnerman caught my attention as I recalled seen it elsewhere. Checking on some scans from dalong.net and the defunct Den of the White Wolf, I found some images of it and other of these UC firearms:

Zeon firearms from UC hard graph:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/ ... MP-62M.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/ ... 1P08-M.jpg

If the kits show a correct ratio, the gun used by Zinnerman, the MP-62M seems to be a very uncommon handgun, while the P08-M seems to be the standard issue for Zeon soldiers. I also found odd that the machinegun included in the Zaku Head and Sauropelta kits is apparently not mentioned, but another one, the MP-71, is shown in the instruction booklet of the later.

EF firearms from UC hard graph:

If someone has more info on these weapons, and/or can translate any info on the scans regarding them, please share it with us.

Now some old scans from the DotWW:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/ ... earms2.gif

From these 2 scans I only recognize a couple of handguns and Kycillia's gun, but the rest seem unfamiliar.

Can someone please identify the other weapons?

As an extra, the DotWW also had an scan of some Zeon medals:

If I'm not mistaken, the one at the bottom seems to be the Cross of Zeon. I don't recognize the other two, but I do find the one with the Gelgoog specially odd (maybe it's related to the Chimera Corps?). Again, if someone can share some info on these and/or provide a translation of the text, it would be deeply appreciated.

Well, from the ever popular idea of making Zeon stuff look more like Nazi stuff, it makes sense. The P-62M looks vaugely like a Luger, while the P08-M looks rather like the P-38 that replaced it as the standard side arm during World War II, although the Luger was still around. Although, for Zeon, I wonder where the gun on the bottom left of this scan, which is called the Naban Type 62, would then work in, as I always thought it was their main sidearm (I believe that is how it is shown in MSG, at least).

Well, according to the old High Frontier timeline, the M71A1 pistol and M72A1 assault rifle are both built by Colt. Both are adopted in the year they are numbered for (0071 and 0072), with the M71A1 being a 9 x 19mm weapon, while the M72A1 fires a 4.85mm round (Which, in may be coincidence or an intentional nod, is what the nearly idential L85 was originally chambered for). The M71A1, or guns that look a heck of a lot like it, seem to still be in regular use through at least the Gryps War (I forget if they show up in later works like CCA or Unicorn, so someone may want to check). The M72A1 is used through 0083, but after that the Federation replaces it with conventional design that we see used in Zeta Gundam, but I don't think it has ever been given a name.

I want to say it was just a medal given out to Gelgoog pilots, but that's another case of me going with something half remembered from who knows how many years ago, so you may want to wait for somebody who can translate that thing here.

Re: Identifying UC firearms

As far as the pistols go, the pistol on the lower left of that scan is a Zeon version of the Luger, IMO. Comparing the 1916 Luger I have to the scan, the animators borrowed the exposed barrel, trigger guard, safety lever, and action. The picture of the Luger on wikipedia is pretty much the same as the pistol I have.

Re: Identifying UC firearms

Well I would be interested in what it says on the M-101A3 Regina (found in the fifth link).

From what I can find it's 1.57m long (~5.2 feet), though is that launcher or missile?
The missile has a caliber of 139mm.

It seems the system has a weight of 42kg, though I can not read Japaneses so I can not tell if it's loaded or empty (i.e. launcher weight) or if that's the missile (not likely as most missiles in that range are 15 to 25kg, and these guys can carry two, though IIRC we do see one carry three at one point).

It also seems to have a range of 4.2km, not to bad (overall it would seem to be roughly comparable to the AT-5 Spandrel).

Re: Identifying UC firearms

Maybe I'm reading into it, but I think they got cute and gave those weapons manufacturer names that play off of companies from the real world - IE, Walter = Walther, Naban = Nanbu. It's an amusing little idea, at least.

Re: Identifying UC firearms

I've seen the Federation's M71A1 pistol and M72A1 assault rifle listed as being made by either Colt or Calt over the years, so either they just went and used the real company name, or another fairly obvious references (Assuming Calt wasn't a translation error on the part of somebody that got repeated a lot ).

It's a medal given to pilots who were "fast track" trained near the end of the war. It's nicknamed "Gelgoog Beginner's Mark". The second one is the "Great Zeon Medal", it's Zeon's highest honor and it's divided into first and second class. Those few who were awarded were considered the greatest heros of the Zeon.
