Testament's lineart and drawings *PLEASE CLOSE*

Hello. I used to post on MAHQ's older boards, and now that there are new ones, I decided I might repost some of my art plus some new stuff. First off, I would like to say that these are all original, pencil & paper designs, so there might be some errors in them. Second, not all of them are Gundams; some are my own type of mecha, which I have been designing lately. Off with the art!

I am taking requests right now. If your mecha is original, different from the common ones, or just plain impossible to franken, feel free to request it! I'll be glad to give it a try since it's a way of motivating myself to improve my style. I don't guarantee anything though; it all depends on my current situation/free time.
Mechas, transformable robots, super robots, and even battleships are accepted.

By the way... if you haven't figured it out by now, I'm no fan of coloring :?

Pretty nice. Keep at it, and you should come up with some killer designs.

I hope to see more stuff from you! *Mod Approved*
P.S. Might want to manually remove some of the scan-speckle from: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v418/ ... sFrame.png

Really good indeed. They have some minor mistakes but the detail is good. Antropos Frame reminds me to Silver Knights for some strange reason. I also like your coloring style in Griphen.

For now, I'm focusing on improving my skills, rather than going al-out in designing (like Ryuujin). I still have a lot of practice to do, so it won't be very soon ^^U

As for the speckling on the frame... I know about that, just that I don't have photoshop at hand right now and had to scale it down in paint :?

Not bad, I admire your efforts. Good job. It's just overall they're a bit too boxy for my taste and I think you might need to set a proper anatomy for your gears so that they can hardly go out of shape.

About the coloring, you can take references from existing mecha paint works. It should be fun. Keep it up.

Nice works. I like the crisp details you have!

That's because in every art topic he comments on he is downing parts here and there of someone's design. No artist can be perfect, not even him.

Back on to the main topic; I like these designs, even if they do they have a slightly polygonal nature to them in some ways.

Some of the more noteable ones I like are StrataI and Griphen Alpha, as well as the Frame 04.

The Frame Project 02 head is also pretty awesome.

Keep up the good work. While your technique does need a bit of work here and there, overall it's great.

I think codename:v just shares his experience and tries to help you to improve your graphics. If you take a look at his art galery then you'll see that he has the best skills in designing around here(at least i think he has) therefore he knows a thing or two about mech design. Just take his comments as advices, i'm sure he meant it that way too.

And about the blockyness: they ARE a bit blocky, but i think the reason for this is that Testament's style is based on Seed/Destiny designs i guess. So it's okay, for those who like it.

I have read other people similar to codename's posts, and even though it kinda irks when it doesn't compliment much, I have to say their posts prove most constructive in the majority of cases.

Anyways, the style I use IS blocky, as many pointed out. I never liked designs like Victory (aside from the full V2, that's one hell of a machine), or rounded off ones. I think most of the time a squared out appearance gives it a more badass look, while a rounded one is more for light hearted stuff like mazinger. I'll try to make them better putting less unnecessary squares, although not too much :P

I gotta check codename's gallery.

Jam! and Shori:
Take it or leave it, that's my advice. I won't blame you guys if both of you thinks that I'm arrogant. I'm only giving my comments and ideas.

When showing your works, you would definitely get all kinds of comments and critiques. Good or bad, it depends on how you see it. I've came under critics and even jeers when people looked at my old works but hey, some of those really make senses. Therefore, their words help me grow and improve myself. Just look on the bright side and you would see something else.

Testament:
Sure, and I'll be happy to show them to you. The thread is Codename:V Case Reopen.

codename:v, I think the complaints are not necessarily the criticism in itself, but the way you word it. I’ve been reading your posts and comments and I’ve seen word choices that range from condescending to almost offensive. They way you word things makes it seem as though you are talking down about people.

If it is unintentional, I suggest you make an effort to be more diplomatic in your criticism, try balancing criticisms with complements, helpful suggestions and try using words that offer encouragement.

The phrase “Not bad, I admire your effort” comes off like an adult complementing a three-year-old who just drew a stick figure cat. Testament’s designs are very well done if you ask me, not everyone can draw in the “Gundam” Style. The poses and perspectives give depth and emotion to the overall images. The only real things I think could be improved is that some of the proportions seem a little off, such as the head on the Strike Zero looking a bit to large, other than that I think the designs just need a little polishing up, refining lines and a little Photoshop cleanup after scanning.

(Isn’t that a nicer critique?)

codename:v, if you’re being deliberately condescending because you think you are better, shut up. It doesn’t matter how good an artist is, they should treat people of any skill set with respect, just as they would like to be treated by more accomplished artists they encounter. Your work is good, yes, but it is not the best mecha art I’ve seen and the artists I’ve come across who are better, don’t come off nearly as arrogant as you do.

I do agree that the first gundam does look a little too boxy but overall you did a great job. I liked the freedom and justice looking ones especially. One more thing to add the second gundam you posted seems like the legs are a little bit thin but thats just my opinion.

Well, yea, I do find you to be arrogant and condescending but whatever. I didn't want to make this thread go offtopic on it so let's leave it at that, eh? Don't want to derail this thread like yours was.

Again, keep it up, Testament.

Striker Zero just plain sucks. It was a fanart I did for an user of Animesuki, but that was from the time I barely pulled off anything right xD
The shoulders are too big as well as the head, the legs' pose is horrid, and the arms are totally flat. It was supposed to be a mish mash of Tallgeese, Wing zero, Freedom and Strike....

Ok, Eclipse has been added to the Gundam section, and it will soon be on full color.

Also, I would like everyone to know that I'm taking requests, given that I have ran out of ideas. They can be Gundams, custom robots, vehicles, etc... but please (in the remote case this is a success, lol) keep the requesting reasonable. I will most likely just make lineart, not colored versions.

Oh, and I forgot. I haven't seen any rules concerning spam, and given this is my gallery, here are...

My deviant ID (kinda forgotten, see below):

...and my website, which is what I update the most, even though it has only recently started. Please drop by and leave you comments  :

Undefined, although I feel like I should be saying 1 per person xD
As long as it's not THAT hard, I will do it.
