Al had been hunkered over, sitting atop a crate whilst holding his legs close in a position resembling that of a Fetus. His stare was blank as he looked toward the floor of the Dervish's hangar, His Nemo awaiting repairs on the feet and some of the verniers. In his mind, he ran the whole incident with the Titan Sniper, who he recently learned was the infamous Lon Kou.

Lon Kou.

He had actually engaged one of the most dreaded pilots in the Earth Federation, one that had ranked in the upper UPPER echelon of the kill bracket for the entire war. He wasn't someone of Amuro's calibre, but was damned close, and that fact almost sent the young pilot comatose once again. He kept thinking back and forth between the engagement, and the incident in Libot 7 years prior. Seeing that Zaku getting speared like a wild boar, and seeing that Hi-Zack getting speared in a vaguely similar manner, was petrifying to Al.

The Two MS, the Zaku, and Hi-Zack looked SO similar. The imagery of it all made it look as if he had become the Gundam that he had so dreaded; the Gundam that made Chris kill Bernie.

"Gundam.."

He slowly raised his head up and looked at his racked Nemo, the suit bearing scorch and dent marks from the fight. He looked her over closely, taking in every mark, blemish, and wound on her metal skin. He then thought back to the Zaku he had helped Bernie rebuild, that FZ model that ALMOST took out the Gundam. Yet Bernie died by the sabre of that Federal beast.

Why was that? Why did god choose the 18 year old pilot of 0087 instead of the 19 year old pilot of 0080? What did Al have that Bernie didn't? What did Bernie have that Al didn't? Was it something about Federal looking suits? Some kinda of stigma that surrounded them, giving them some sort of unholy protection? It was all so much to take in. His second big engagement, and he took down an ace sniper..

He then doubled over the side of the crate and vomited his guts out. It went on for about a minute, the heaves excruciating and heavy, the force causing him to literally flop as the contents of his stomach spewed forth. It didn't stop until saliva was the only thing dribbling from his mouth. Al then just placed his arms around himself, and hugged tightly.. floating toward the group now joined by Bernard Korbel.

(OOC: Apologies for the lateness. Here I am to... well, not save the day.)

Clute snarls in frustration as Wolf evades his shot, but has no time to curse as Alexandra's beams come in at him. He boosts away in a twirling spiral, emulating Wolf's evasive manuvers, and fires a long burst from his Vulcans at her rifle.

He catches a flash of Jack's Rick Dias, dual-wielding beam weapons, and spins down, coming below Jacob and Wolf, and fires a shot from below Jacob, past his missing leg, at Wolf.

-----

Jack is very annoyed. Especially when Alexandra ignores him to take potshots at Clute. And with Clute focusing on the Ace Marasai going after Jacob...

Screw that sniper. I'll have to take care of this girl, then we triple-team that Ace.

Jack immediately boosts after Alexandra, centering his crosshairs on her torso, and squeezes the trigger. A shot lances out from his beam rifle, and he squeezes the trigger and lets fly with his beam pistol, a salvo of five shots aimed at bracketing Alexandra.

"Never turn your back on a sniper," he says contemptuously.

Shin sees the pilot aim his beam pistol at him so he starts boosting to his right but the left arm is hit and shot off at the elbow along with the beamsaber in the left hand but then he gets a transmission from Samantha so he looks around and sees what he guess is her Marasai fire at the Rick-Dias so he boosts out of the beams path and sees the pilot is retreating after Samantha showed up and shot one of his arms off. "Thank you Ens. Fulton." Shin isn't too happy with himself for not being able to handle that Dias on his own though. Then he deactivates his beamsaber and puts it into the recharge rack and pulls his beamrifle out again in the right hand.

"Never been better." The pilot of what Eckardy was thinking of as 'Pinky' called back. Eckardy grinned.

"Out-f***ing-standing. We'll be back to the Dervish in two or three minutes, so sit back, relax, and keep your tray tables locked in the upright position." Eddie said to the pilot in the deadpan voice of a commercial passenger craft pilot, they all seemed to have the same voice to Eddie.

They sped along toward the growing Irish class ship in the distance.

===============================================

- The Dervish -
- Ready Room -

They had sat alone, not really talking, not really doing anything since Eckardy had left, and it had Ian worried. He'd seen the look on the younger man before, too many times, in fact, and wondered how it would develop. Marvin had taken an instant liking to Roy, they'd all become good friends very quickly, Roy had been easily likeable to anyone who'd really talked to the man.

Cowboy finished off his coffee and set the cup down, seemingly starring at nothing. He finally spoke a minute or so later. "F***in' shame." The voice was quiet, almost detached, distant.

Ian nodded, "Always is." He said just as quietly, knowing that a persons death wasn't always a shame, he had cheered upon hearing of some deaths in the One Year War, but there was no need to muddy the situation now, was there? Marvin was looking dour, that much was clear, but Ian really didn't know about everything they kid had gone through. He'd learned from Eddie, through Roy, that Hamilton and Eckardy were the only two pilots left from the Dervish unit prior to it's joining of the 4th Advance Squadron, then the 4th Escort, and Eckardy knew most of Marvin's past history. It looked to Greydon that things may be catching up to the younger man. He'd have to talk to Eddie about that.

"What the f***?" Marvin said as his hand slapped to his back, grabbing a small white object. It was Eckardy's pack of cigarettes, with a lighter stuck into the pack. Seemingly without hesitation, Marvin withdrew the lighter and a cigarette, stuck the latter in his mouth, and lit it.

Ian's eyes narrowed and he spoke what was on his mind. "I thought you didn't smoke." He said quietly, almost innocently, but got no response from Marvin. The question hung in the air like the smoke, but no one said anything. Ian sighed, deciding that the kid didn't want any help that Greydon might be able to give, and stood. "I'm heading to the hanger to see what's going on. You wanna come?" He was given an almost imperceptible negative shake of the head, which prompted another sigh from Greydon. "Alright, you know where I'll be." He said and headed out of the Ready Room.

The kid seemed changed to Ian, and he knew somehow that Marvin Hamilton was different. As the door closed behind him, he wondered if that was an even bigger shame than the death of a good man. Greydon didn't have an answer for that.

Heyden held his tongue for a moment as his rescuer blabbed on relentlessly. As soon as the pilot from the Dervish finished speaking, Heyden's gruff and strong voice broke the silence.

"Lt. Jg Pan Heyden of the New yark. I'm not wearing a pilot's suit. So i'm stuck in this thing till you get me in a closed off section."
Heyden took a drag before continue. Briefly thinking.

"Be a doll and make sure theres a cold hard drink waiting for me. This is first class right?"

Patrick was happy when his weapons screen displayed the charge for the rifle. This would be his first time ever using one, and as such, he really didn't have any real understanding of how they work, never mind the principles of the beam being nothing more than charged minovsky particles accelerating at a ridiculous rate of speed, and capable of ripping through armor with near zero resistance. He just knew that it makes a pretty light, and destroys things.

"C'mon, Miller, let's get moving. No time to waste!"

"Uhm, roger Sir."

As soon as his commanding officer entered his heavily damaged Zack, Patrick got on the Sally's launch catapult. The mechanics prepped his launch fairly quickly.

"Ensign Miller launching." he said as he rocketed out of the ship. Miller, even though he was simple minded, and, like a cat, would be easily amused if you dangle some string, knew that it'd be best for him to launch first. It might please Picard because he's doing something smart that would help defend Picard's own ass....or he might be pissed because Miller launched before him. Either way, Miller is out of the ship, awaiting his leader.

"Lieutenant Jg Pan Heyden of the New Yark," The voice replied to Eddie, sounding perfectly fine and normal, "I'm not wearing a pilot's suit. So I'm stuck in this thing till you get me in a closed off section." There was a pause with a sound Eddie couldn't make out, "Be a doll and make sure theres a cold hard drink waiting for me. This is first class right?"

Eddie grinned. "S***, you couldn't afford our first class rates. But seriously, you may be f***ed. Dervish has her hangers wide open and they're being kept that way. You may be stuck inside that thing for buddy." Eckardy said, his tone shifting to become more serious with the latter part of his comment.

They were closer to the ship now. "We'll be landing in a minute. I'll get ya down and then leave it to the techs on how to get ya out." Eddie said and cut the comm as he lined up for his approach to the ship.

"Jesus Tap Dancing Christ..." Heyden muttered annoyed. He spat out his finished cigarette and lit another.

"Just do what you can princess, I'll pay you back later somehow" The lt jg said as he leaned back in his chair and admired the darkness of his cockpit. The thought of the place quite possibly being his tomb never crossed his mind once.

Eckardy caught part of the other pilots' comment as he cut the comm off, but hardly gave it any attention. Less then a minute later, the Rick Dias was on the Dervish. Eckardy placed the battered pink Nemo off to the side to allow other units to land before moving Marvin's unit back to it's usual spot in the hanger.

Eckardy popped the hatch and was promptly met by Ian. "How'd it go?"

He floated out of the cockpit and came to stand on the left shoulder of the red MS. "Alright. I helped get a Hizack, but it went off and banged up Michiko's unit." Eckardy nodded toward another banged up Rick Dias near by Fritz' blue-colored Rick Dias Custom. "Any idea where Sager is?"

Ian shook his head but kicked off the shoulder. "I'll get him. What for?" He asked.

Eddie jerked a gloved thumb at the pink wreck of a Nemo, "The idiot in there isn't in a suit. Don't need the techs popping the hatch and venting his ass now do we?" He said with a half grin. Ian returned it with a nod and headed off to find Sager. Eddie floated over toward the Nemo, which he placed on it's right side with it's back toward one of the hanger's walls. He moved over towards the cockpit and beat another mechanic, a newer one whose name Eckardy didn't know, there by a few seconds. Eddie told the man the situation while waiting for Ian to get Sager.

Sager rubbed his arm and nodded, “Eh, yeah. Celeste was in and out... Was she supposed to be with you guys or something?”. Fritz’ brows knit and he shook his head. “She was flying with Michiko and I. She said she had to land for fuel and repairs but she never joined back up with us,” he explained, resting his hands on his hips as the two men drifted above the Rick Dias’ shoulder. Sager shrugged and said, “Well, she already left. None of the catapults are working right, so we had to stop clearing debris from the portside rig while she took off,”.

"Hey you."

Fritz, Sager and Michiko all turned to face Bernard as he landed. Chief Polk raised an eyebrow and muttered, “I’m usually the one yelling to get someone’s attention around here,”. "Ah, sorry sirs... there was a kid in the Hi-Nemo going up against three Zacks. Any word on him?" Korbel asked, standing at attention. Fritz looked at the mechanic and said under his breath, “A kid in the what?”. Sager smiled slightly and said, “That suit I cobbled together for the Gela,”. His smile wavered slightly at the mention of their old ship.

Michiko came forward and rested a hand on Bernard’s shoulder. “You look like you could use some rest. I was just heading to the ready room. Why don’t you come with me?” she offered, trying to usher him away from Fritz and Sager. Fritz shook his head and admitted, “I haven’t heard anything, ensign,”. He wasn’t trying to be dismissive, but he immediately turned back to Sager. “Are you thinking about going back out already? To find her?” the Chief asked, almost apprehensively. Ian arrived and called the mechanic’s attention away before Fritz could answer.

Abbey had waited until the Dervish was nearly parallel and below the Zomel before he leaned forward and gave the order to give the Musai a full starboard broadside. All available working guns on the Irish-class’ side tracked over and opened fire.

Heyden was chain smoking away in his nemo. His cockpit was swarmed with smoke the pilot's eyes bloodshot from the cancerous fumes.

"Sh*t" Pan shouted balling his fists.

Why the hell didn't that pilot just send his nemo to a ship that could release him? Or how hard was it to close the goddamn hangar doors. Sonofa bitch sure didn't have his head together.

Pan reached below his seat pulling out his emergency cigarettes. Fumbling with them in the dark he couldn't find the opening.

"F*ck!" he yelled throwing it directly infront of him.

Michiko came forward and rested a hand on Bernard’s shoulder. “You look like you could use some rest. I was just heading to the ready room. Why don’t you come with me?” she offered, trying to usher him away from Fritz and Sager.

Traveling along side Michiko, Bernard didn't have the strength to resist. Exhausted from the battle and haunted by ghosts in his sleep, he was at the breaking point. What little optimism he had evaporated when the Gela was lost. It was futile asking if anyone from the Gela had survived. By the looks on their faces the kid had probably bought it. Had he waited a minute, Bernard would have caught sight of Al and lifted his spirits some.

"...he saved my life out there and I can't even remember his name.. kids..Gela's gun crews.. at their posts til the end..infront of my eyes..they were all kids dying out there..." Bernard murmured.

--Team 3--
--Wes Curren--

Curren knew better than to take Stukov's bait, but he was going to tease anyways. Anything would be much more interesting than a dogfight going nowhere. He began to "chase" after the ace Marasai, firing his beam rifle at the unit.

"So.. Slim Jim is over there as well..." Wes says as he got a better view of where Stukov was leading him. It wouldnt be too much of a stretch now to say he was supporting the ungrateful Zeke if he closed in on Stukov's a**.

With that, he bumped up his acceleration a whee bit, prepared to engage with a saber at moment's notice.

Having apparently shaken off his pursuers, Jim guided his battered Rick Dias into the Dervish's hangar. Now that the adrenaline of battle was fading, his whole body began to ache with renewed vigor, a painful reminder of his pre-flight beating and his lengthy engagement with the Titans' forces. At least he had managed to score a kill for all his trouble. That memory forced a slight grin on his face despite the discomfort. He would prove himself as an MS pilot yet. He was pretty good already and getting better. It was only a matter of time.

OOC: Just some quickies I was able to slap together while taking a break from schoolwork. The important stuff - like the Kirov teams, should come tomorrow or Thursday, I hope.

IC:
- Hades Team -

Picard's eye twitched as that big doofus launched first without orders, but the Hades Team CO decided not to waste breath on it for now. He'd come down on that ox later. Within moments, Picard's Hizack was in space along with Patrick and Varis' own machines. The small handful of escape launches from the Hades drew near to the Kirov.

"Right!" barked M-Hover, "Herakles Team, looks like you're temporarily under my command. Lt. Kamek. Follow what I say, and you might survive this. We're moving in there and supporting the Kirov's teams. Now let's get moving."

Not waiting for a reply, Picard advanced toward the central mass of mobile suit combat.

* * *

- Musai Kai-class Zomel -

The Zomel tried to fire upon the Dervish as the two warships passed by one another, but found, to the crew's horror, that the AEUG battleship was just barely "under" the Musai Kai's firing arc, and thus wasn't hit. The ship proceeded to roll in compliance with the skipper's frantic commands, but it was too late; the Dervish had fired in kind, and its cannons struck home all along the Zomel's side. Large sections of the Zomel's hull ruptured and shattered, leaving the green cruiser effectively crippled, with much of the crew having been killed in the onslaught. Most of the ship lost power and went dark, leaving the surviving crew disoriented. Discipline gradually broke down among the largely inexperienced crew, leading to all manner of panic.

The Zomel was, for all intents and purposes, entirely neutralized.

Celeste emerges from her hiding place, she that she is no longer being pursued. Easing her suit behind some debris, she peeks the Rick Dais’ head over a piece of debris whose origin can no longer be deciphered. Celeste racks her saber and pulls out her pistol. Gil’s suit is pretty much a sitting duck. Her targeting abilities might be shamefully low, but the Rick Dias comes equipped with its own build-in targeting system. Sure, it won’t be able to match Jack or Vox out on the range, but that much skill and talent are hardly necessary when aiming for a relatively stationary target.

With the assistance of the said built in systems, the pilot formerly known as the ‘White Angel’ fires 3 rounds at her target from range before slipping back into the shoal. The Dervish is already on its way out, and Celeste has a lot of distance to cover in a severely damaged suit. With any luck, she’ll make it to the AEUG Battleship without going nova, but in the constantly shifting environment known as the Shoal, one can never be sure.

(OOC: I’ll post for Pendragon later today)

Even though his manueverability was shot, his Marasai's speed wasn't, and when Celeste re-emerged from the debris to --- quite predictably --- finish him off, Gilliarme was more than ready for the attack. The first two shots nonetheless sailed harmlessly past as Gilliarme siderolled his Marasai into a spiral upwards --- it was the best he could manage with the manuevering thrusters damaged --- and the third shot narrowly grazed the Marasai's remaining leg armor. But otherwise, Gilliarme's Marasai soon put Celeste's Rick Dias away from himself.

Too bad, Celeste. You won't finish me off here, and you will not triumph over me today. A hypocrite and inciter like you will get your comeuppance one day.

That thought, and with one more glance at how Shin and Samantha were doing, Gilliarme put his Marasai forward at full speed with whatever was left of its propellent back towards the Kirov. Eventually, as the flagship loomed before him and closed, Gilliarme absently raised a hand and placed two fingers to check on his wound; He winced slightly as pain surged where he touched it, but fortunately the shrapnel didn't go through his back. If it had, it would've been fatal in the dead of space. "This is Delta Leader, requiring emergency field repairs and a new Beam Rifle and armshield for my Marasai. Coming in for emergency stopover, over."

When Nick finished, he looked at his commander, expecting him to try to talk the pilot out of...whatever action he was trying to do.

He was NOT expecting to be pressed onto the wall.

"Nick," snapped Trent, "You can't help Ed nor this Celeine by running off and pretending to defect. The AEUG may be a ragtag unit, but they're not stupid. If, by some lucky chance, they don't see through you and opt to have you executed, they'll..."

Trent then stopped himself, as if trying to prevent from going off on a tangent.

"Listen, Nick," he continued, this time more calmly, "You're thinking irrationally, letting raw emotion get the better of you. Use your head and look at the situation. Trying to pull this now will only get you, and probably others, killed in vain. Doing something like this requires careful planning and..."

A headshake showed that Trent was still trying to come to grips with what was happening; in a way, so was Nick.

"Nick, you know as well as I do that the Ritters are up to something. I can see that they have something grander, more sinister, than mere family prestige on their minds. You see it too, don't you? I don't know what they're planning, Nick, but they have their own agenda, they have a lot of pull, and I can't stand having to constantly look behind my back. I need someone on this ship who sees that they're playing their own side, separate from the rest of us. I can't sit idly by while one of the few officers I can trust rushes off on a wild goose chase."

Trust?

Nick let out a soft laugh; it wasn't mocking so much as bitter.

"It's been a long time since anyone's put trust in me, sir, or for me to give anyone reason to. I...thank you," he finished, lamely yet honestly.

As Patrick wastched his commanding officer exit the ship, he noticed that Picard had not scolded him for leaving before him. In Patrick's mind, that must mean a good thing! Picard must be happy that he left to protect Picard's launch! Maybe his CO would congradulate him later for a job well done!

Following his leader willingly, guarding Picard's right flank. Looking ahead, it was hard to miss the large mobile suit battle unfolding ahead. Beam rifle at the ready, he waited for instructions from his leader.

- Beta Team -

Had her mind not been cluttered with an array of conflicting emotions, Alexandra would have been proud of herself for having successfully - and rather subconsciously - noticed that Jack had fired at her from behind, and she knew not to try to act too hastily, for the shots weren't aimed directly at her.

Moreover, Alexandra's inexperience, along with the state of her mind, prevented her from reacting to Clute's vulcan barrage. Normally it would have been nearly impossible to score a hit on such a small, erratically-moving target as a Marasai's beam rifle, but Clute's bullets struck true. With a sputter and a flash, the beam rifle made it clear that it no longer functioned properly.

With a small snarl, Alexandra chucked the weapon aside and drew a beam saber, intent on attacking Clute at any cost, but she suddenly received a withdrawal order from Wolf...

-

Wolf was a damn god pilot, but even the greatest pilots are mortal humans, with all the constraints that come with being human and mortal. He had no way to move his beam launcher in time to prevent it from being smacked to the side by Jacob's arm. When the AEUG pilot unleashed the vulcans, Wolf was forced to back off briefly.

Wolf had intended to put distance only temporarily - he had planned to close back in on the enemy Rick Dias quickly. Clute's sudden intervention scratched that. Beta Team's CO just barely spotted the incoming shot out of the edge of his peripheral vision and was able to react quickly thanks to his battle-hardened reflexes, but wasn't able to overcome his Marasai's inertia enough to fully evade the beam. Lt. Tideland's attack sliced downward, leaving a hideous, molten gash down the length of the Marasai's right side. With a grunt, Wolf fired his beam launcher at Jacob: swinging the thing around to fire at Clute would've taken too long.

The damage the barrel had received earlier, however, now reared its head. The barrel was unable to handle the heat and stress of the powerful beam, and split open at the spot where Clute had grazed it earlier. Wolf's shot was therefore an unconcentrate spray rather than a concentrated bolt. The sheer power of the beam launcher ensured that even such an unconcentrated mess would still be devastating, but not as accurate or effective as it cold be were the barrel still functioning. Wolf muttered a swear. He was in a bad spot, being double-teamed while his primary weapon was damaged.

Then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw Alexandra's one-armed Marasai lose its own primary weapon entirely, then draw a beam saber, apparently intent on a last hurrah. Although he's managed to forget in the heat and chaos of battle, the fresh memory of Mercedes' fate jumped back into Wolf's mind.

Wolf was generally willing to get himself killed, but he wasn't about to drag Alexandra down with him. Besides, he wasn't going to accomplish anything by dying in this God-forsaken shoal zone. Thus, he fired a retreat signal flare while continuing to backpedal away from Jacob's Dias and into the thicker shoals. He glanced over to Alexandra, who he saw break away from her melee approach and move toward him. Now, where was Ryo?

- Hades Team -

Picard didn't much care whether or not the idiot rookies could keep up. He stormed past a Hizack Custom and straight into the fray...

... Only to see that the Marasais of the Kirov's complement were pulling back.

"Oh, come on!" spat M-Hover at the sight of the withdrawing allies. Then, to the Hizacks under his own command, he fired a signal flare to indicate withdrawal.

More out of disappointment and spite than anything else, Picard fired his beam rifle twice at the Rick Dias that was roughly closest to him (Jack).

- Delta Team -

The Rick Dias was quick to pull away after Sam arrived on the scene, and neither Sam nor Shin were interested in pursuit. Stukov then barreled into the area shortly thereafter with a Rick Dias in his wake.

"Looks like the other teams are bugging out," Sam murmured, "I'm not sticking around to fight these guys alone."

She pushed off Shin's Marasai to retreat back to the Kirov, adding in a couple beam rifle shots at Wes' Rick Dias before slipping away. She passed by where she'd last seen Gilliarme's Marasai and, though she would never admit it, she quickly glanced around to make sure Gilliarme wasn't still stuck there. She kicked her thrusters to a higher gear and weaved through the debris back to Echo's flagship.

- Alpha Team -

The Rick Dias followed Stukov, the AEUG pilot's lazy manner of pursuit revealing either carelessness or, more likely, wariness that Stukov was up to something.

That was fine, though, as Wes' only ally in the immediate area had run off, whereas the two Marasais from Delta Team were still present, turning the fight into a 3-on-1. Fairness makes a fight more interesting, but Stukov was more interested in simply getting the job over with.

Which made it a trouble when he noticed that both Beta Team and Delta Team appeared to be withdrawing from the combat area. After firing twice more at Wes, Stukov followed Sam's withdrawal, not intent on letting himself get surrounded. Nevertheless, he allowed space for Shin to get out before he did; Stukov much preferred being the last to leave the battlefield.
