Hey i would like to paint some of my models with solid colors i was wondering if anyone had pictures of the different paint effects between a flat finished paint job and a glossy one.
I have read that Dull or(Flat) paints give the model a more solid color effect without the shiney/Glossyness.
And glossy paints will leave a shiney effect when they are done.
So what i was wondering if anyone could should me pictures of these different painting effects.
Flat & Glossy paint questions
Glossy vs flat is personal choice. Typically the flat finish is used for weathering, and some kits just look better flat. Glossy is mostly for metallic finishes. Here, certain kits look better glossy, these kits are usually curvy kits such as the Quebeley and Kampfer.
Here's a recent example using the Kampfer. I finished a kit recently for a customer and he wanted it metallic looking so I went with a gloss finish:

Now on the flip side, I also have two other kampfers that I weathered and because it's weathered I went with a flat finish:

Now I have another kit that I did not weather, but I liked the flat finish, here is a gyan I did with a flat finish:

Glossy or flat is done at the very end of building. The type of paint (flat or gloss) does not matter. It is a top coat that I apply at the very end that determines the final effect (gloss or flat). This is a process called "Clear Coating". I have bottles of clear paint that is formulated for gloss, semi gloss, and flat. Depending on the final coat I want, I spray the gloss or flat over the model and get that effect.

There is a point when I get done painting the kit that I apply a gloss clear coat. I do this because it help the decals stick better onto the surface. A little later, I spray on a flat coat and apply some weathering techniques, then spray on a final flat coat. Hopefully this helps explain things a little better for you.
