Good plastic models are real looking and if you didn’t want it to look real then why bother with the modifications? Don’t get me wrong, you did a great job, but the paint job really needs something more. It just doesn’t look right with solid colors. If you don’t want to weather it maybe you could break up the solid colors with different shades of white thinly applied over the white that is on it now. Maybe some oil spots by the joints, just anything to break up the solid colors.
I think a great job was done on this. Especially for hand painting. I'd like to see some more panel lines and what not filled in. I think that would make it look really great.
I'm a fan of kits that look factory fresh. And this one portrays just that.

The mods? Well the extended arm joint was put in because the arm pushes the joint out when you move it more than 90 degrees. It was for practical purposes =/
But yeah, I understand the solid colors you're talking about. What areas would weathering go on this? I assume I can't just put them everywhere, otherwise it'll look funny.

Drybrush with a dark color along the edges of the parts, that'll help. I kinda went overboard with the silver here in some places http://img455.imageshack.us/img455/5876 ... 545zi0.jpg
