MG ZZ Gundam 'cell shaded' effect

Post by Kokopelli » Fri Apr 01, 2011 3:22 pm

Never really was a fan of ZZ Gundam, the series or the mecha, but I had this kit sitting around and for some reason the big boxy design looked fun to work with. As a result, this is a straight build, nothing fancy.

I had to include the beam saber since its so freaking massive I couldn't resist. It looked too pale of a color, so I gave it a light painting and gloss coat.

At first I was going to make it all bright and toyish with a coat of Future, but whenever I do that people seem to have a fit about things being too glossy. So I dull coated it (except for the beam saber) and hit it with pastels to darken the edges. Happy with the results in the end, it looks like something out of a CG movie like Gundam Evolve. ... 34s6gz.jpg ... 34s6kx.jpg ... 34s6nk.jpg ... 34s6q0.jpg ... 34s6u3.jpg

Very cool! I may have to try out this technique.

wow amazing
i always did prefer dull coat over gloss, it makes the kits look more like models then toys. as if someone had made the model using clay and colored it. just gives it more artistic feel.
