During the Reagan presidency, humanoid mecha known as Arm Slaves were put forward as a military counterpart to the US's Star Wars missile defense program. Inexplicably, it worked, with AS (short for Armored Mobile Master-Slave System) becoming a standard part of any world military. Fast forward to modern day and Arm Slaves are similar to fighter jets. The models are mostly well known to the public, but the specifications and construction are top secret. But even now some people are amazed that giant mecha are practical war weapons.Newtype87 wrote:The first is FullMetal Panic. About all I know is a phrase "Black Technology" and "Lambda Driver." I do want to learn more about it, but I've never really found the time. After what I've heard here, I may just have to.
The secret to this is Black Technology, a body of super-advanced knowledge that is possessed by the Whispered, a number of people that possess this knowledge subconciously from birth. This also tends to result in them excelling in normal scholastic pursuits as well. However, due to the subconcious nature of the knowledge, few know that they themselves are Whispered. The Lambda Driver is another fragment of Black Technology that allows an Arm Slave to generate force without inertia either as a shockwave for offense or a defensive field. Only two factions have it, however. Mithril and the more malevolent Amalgm.
Mithril, a private military organization dedicated to combatting terrorism without any ties to any of the nations of the world possesses technology a decade ahead of anyone else. And the fact of the Whispered is well known to them, as well as countries that would exploit innocent Whispered for their own benefit. Thus, when discovering that KGB elements seem to be after another Whispered candidate after a Mithril raid rescues their last one, Captain Testarossa assigns three of her top soldiers to watch over another potential Whispered predicted to be the KGB's next target: Kaname Chidori.
Kaname Chidori is a high schooler with high grades in school and an otherwise normal life. However, her normal life seems to be turned on its side when "transfer student" Souske Sagara arrives on the scene. Stoic at best, dour at least, Souske tends to react in weird ways that make no sense to simple, innocent things. And he's been following Kaname around even as he protests it's just coincidence.
But it's all about to come to head with a certain school trip.
Anyway, here's one I'm utterly clueless on: Gunbuster.
All I know is presumably some sort of spiritual ancestor to Evangelion and it's a Gainax show.
