Huh, i thought this would be posted here in a flash, but found nothing after doing a search.
Rebuild of Evangelion You are (not) alone trailer
Personally, I like the how they are going for completely new animation rather than just make a compilation movie of old scenes (which was what irked me a bit in a new translation). The eva from the trailer isn't as sleek and sharp as i thought it was in the original series but the rounder design i guess is closer to the movie version and gives off an organic vibe to me. coming out sometime soon, can't wait for it to be licensed here.
Thoughts? Comments?

Well, I don't know too much about it, but I'm wary considering the previous incarnations of Eva that have surfaced over the past few years.
Don't get me wrong, I like Evangelion, but there's only so much you can do to milk a cashcow.
So far as Rebuild goes... I like the idea of spinning a 4th story line (1: Eva, 2: EoE, 3: GoS) but that trailer doesn't exactly fill me with hope. It looks exactly the same, just with fancier animation. Same scenes, same camera angles. From what little action happens, it seems like the same plot, too.
In the end, I'd much rather see that GoS-based manga get animated instead.

Eh, that Girlfriend of Steel 2 manga wasn't very good. I'd much rather see Shinji Ikari Raising project animated. Mainly because it's Shinji/Rei. The other mangas are all the same old Shinji/Asuka stuff.
As for Rebuild, the whole point of the movies is that Anno can finally do what he truely wanted to do with the series. Back when the original was made, they didn't have all this fancy computer stuff. I myself don't like 3D stuff throw in with 2D stuff, but it varies from title to title. From the trailer though, the 3D in Rebuild will work very well.
The first movie is basically episodes 1-6, however the operation to snipe Ramiel is going to be expanded upon greatly so I hear. It's only natural the first movie, perhaps even the first 2 movies follow the original, as it has plenty to set up. Then it can start going down its own path.
I am highly anticipating these movies.

I thought it was 1-8...>_<
Either way take it from the lips of a fanboy, this movie will rock. The trailer looks slick, when it's dubbed it will be amazing, in short, rock on. My only issue is with the voice actors, I want the same ones as the series.

I suppose I should put something witty here, Right?
I can only remember one case of a character getting different sieyuu, and it was so minor I've long since forgotten what it was, so I really don't think we need to worry about that.
Still, from what I've seen it looks like a simple reanimation of Eva, which could be fine, I guess, but nothing I've seen excites me as much as some of those old conceptual arts for the LA movie--particularly of the Evas and NERV headquarters. Those just screamed "awesome" and I'm not getting that feeling from any of the rebuild stuff.
As for Anno finally getting a chance to do "what he wants" with Eva... he's already done that. That's what EoE was supposed to be. Besides, Anno has a long, long history of working on projects that start out good, get great in the middle, and then turn to crap for the end.

I really wouldn’t mind a remake of most of the series, the plot was good and entertaining, the ending however… the series ending was crap on a stick and “Death and rebirth†may have had their moments but not enough to outweigh their flaws. I’ve yet to watch End of Eva since I think I’d rather spare myself the mind-****. If the rebuild movies can follow the same path as most of the series but provide a satisfactory ending, then, I’m all for them.

To be perfectly honest, I'm looking forward to it more than anything else anime-wise. I am, of course, a huge Evangelion fan.
However, in recent years my appreciation of the TV series has declined, in no small part due to the increasing quality of the manga. The manga starts off quite similar to the TV show, but as it goes on, while the same overall plot is maintained, the character development is much more careful and well-written, not to mention the artwork.
If Rebuild of Evangelion ends up being nothing but an animation of the manga, I will be happy. I do know this is not the case since the manga is Sadamoto's vision and Anno is cool with that. But still, the TV series did have many flaws, due to both budget and a rushed schedule. Hell, I used to love episode 24, but when I watch it now I see it has some really, really careless editing due to having to cram so much information in 20 minutes...
So yeah, perhaps Rebuild of Evangelion isn't necessary per se, but then again neither was Gundam SEED. I'll still watch it. For I am a flunky

Seeing that I only just finished Evangelion... I'm pretty mixed right now. Sure, it'd be nice to see an alternate retelling so I can compare them. But I'm still reeling from the total brain-killer ending. That said, I probably wouldnt want to touch anything Evangelion for awhile besides End of Evangelion just to give me an idea on what the hell really happened in the end.

How quickly people forget the Sadamoto Manga, which actually came out 6 months before EVA-TV.Mwulf wrote:So far as Rebuild goes... I like the idea of spinning a 4th story line (1: Eva, 2: EoE, 3: GoS) but that trailer doesn't exactly fill me with hope.
It's currently up to volume 12 in Japan, 11 in the US. It seems to be following a heavily adjusted version of the EoE events right now, and it's still quite the fun read. Especially since characters are actually deeper than in the anime somehow.
As for the Girlfriend of Steel 2 manga (otherwise known as 'Angelic Days'), it's not that good. It's ok, it's solid... but there's some problems with it.
And then there's another official EVA-manga that's just plain... weird, called 'Ikari Shinji Ikusei Keikaku.'
Really, ReBuild is more along the lines of the 10th EVA re-make at this point - especially when we count games like the PS2 game with the 'official answer' to Evangelion.
I've been following the plot of the manga through secondary sources and I have to admit, it intrigues me. I'm curious(and you can PM me if you want to avoid spoiling it), but is the infamous hospital room scene from EoE in the manga? Or did they alter it(given it's.....well, seems rather pointless and just plain wrong even IN context)?NewtypeS3 wrote:How quickly people forget the Sadamoto Manga, which actually came out 6 months before EVA-TV.Mwulf wrote:So far as Rebuild goes... The last volume released in the US was 10, at last check - ending in chapter 70 or so. Japan's currently up to chapter 77, at the least.Destiny_Gundam wrote:Manga hasn't gotten that far yet. The manga is released at a snail's pace. Rei II's death only just happened recently I believe.
As of the last chapter I've read, 77, NERV is under attack just like in End of Evangelion.
Really, though the manga may be getting released at a snail's pace, it's further than you recall.

Ah, I haven't exactly been keeping track... I really need to actually read it.
Still, 12 years to release 77 chapters is pretty slow... But from what I hear the quality and Shinji/Rei-ness are worth it.
Also, I hear every time you masterbate, Kaworu kills a kitten.
Speaking of, he's going to be in the first movie. I wonder how his role will change and affect the plot.

Don't give up hope yet.Hmm, so is he the "new" character that was suppose to be appearing? Shame on me, I thought it would actually be a new character.
I've heard that the first movie will be largely faithful to the original (sans Kaworu's early appearance), with the major revisions beginning in the second movie. One such revision is supposed to be the inclusion of a new character.
This space for rent
Well, if they bring him in earlier, it'd definitely help that plotline seem less....thrown in. Even Toji showing up as -03's pilot was less....well, abbreviated.
That said, I'm hoping for an ending that doesn't make me want to tear my hair out this time again. The last time we got the "real ending".... O_o

Indeed. EoE was much easier to understand just what the hell was going on, but it really didn't give any sort of closure, and I admit I had to go online to understand the ending. At least EoTV had a happy ending, even if you have no idea what they're happy about.
Of course, I understand most of it now (I don't think theres a single person out there who coudl ever say he fully understand Evangelion, including everything thats going on within the plot), but at the time I was rather lost.

I assure you, there's atleast one person *points to self* Of course it took a few watchings and a little research to get it all, but it is possible.Melchior wrote:I don't think theres a single person out there who coudl ever say he fully understand Evangelion, including everything thats going on within the plot
