I don't know if anyone has noticed it, or is aware of it, but there is a new ABSURDLY funny manga called Hayate the Combat Butler. It's utterly hilarious, and apparently the first episode of the anime aired last week (it'll be a bit more before it's subbed, though).
The story follows the bizzare life of Hayate, who is sold to the Yakuza by his parents and meets with one misfortune after another... there are plenty of summaries out there, but all I can really do to sell it is say it's REEEEEEEAAAAALY funny. It's great stuff.
Anywho, because it's topical (Gundam, duh) here's a quick sampling of the manga.

^--It's not all that funny compared to the rest of HtCB, but it's topical!
If you guys like really weird, funny manga like School Rumble (the earlier parts) and Mahoraba, you'll love it.

Not sure I would subject someone to Destiny, heh. This looks like a really funny manga, too bad it will never make it to america.

Oh, that's cool about it making it to America. And as to why I thought that, i've just been dissapointed about this kind of stuff before.

Well they finally subbed the first episode today. After watching it I was thoroughly amused. I tend to stray away from comedic animes but this one caught my interest after seeing that manga excerpt.
Also, like Kuruni I don't think I'll be able to resist the adorable n' cute loliness that is Nagi. D:.

Well, that entirely depends on ones personal opinion. . So far, I find her to be the most adorable, that I'd just have to go Elmyra from Tiny Toons Adventures on her. Line quasi sigged for great justice!vaKuz wrote:Well, I'm beginning to like it, especially when it is topical. "You lack Gundam!" <------awesome line
I lawld a good 1.5 minutes just from that exerpt alone. If this is any indication of how funny this manga and series is... Then Keroro Gunso has some competition..
XD
Hm... the subbers are going with "Hayate no Gotoku" (I think) instead of "The combat butler".... the anime is "so-so" thus far. I really like the voices (though Tanaka Rie would have made a better Marianne).
As for the manga... it references a TON of anime. Nagi seems to think Hayate is ~both~ a super-saiya-jin AND a super-robot that can combine. Very strange; very funny. I, again, deffinitlely suggest everyone read it.
And about the sample I posted--if you thought it was funny, bear in mind that it's a sample of below-average humor from the manga.
As for which loli is best... of the three, how can you pick just one?
Oh well. It could have been better, but it could have been a lot worse too. A lot of the humor from the manga is missing from the anime... the anime is a lot tamer, if that makes any sense. It's a lot like Mahoraba at this point: the manga is SPECTACULAR while the anime is merely "good".In Vol. 114 of WEB Sunday BACKSTAGE with Kenjirou Hata, according to Hayate the Combat Butler creator and manga artist himself, the person(s) in charge of the Hayate the Combat Butler anime asked Kenjirou Hata whose voices fit the images of his characters. Mr. Hata recommended Ryouko Shiraishi as Hayate [Ayasaki], Rie Kugimiya as Nagi [Sanzenin], Rie Tanaka as Maria, and Shizuka Itou as Hinagiku [Katsura]. The anime staff chose to use the voice actors Kenjirou Hata had recommended to play these characters.

forgive the double-post.

ep02 is subbed (along with 2 new spectacular episodes of Aria ~ The Natural) and is... just as good as the first. They bleeped out the first sylable of Gundam every time it was used, which was a bit of a letdown considering how ~often~ they use it.
And in the intro Hayate flies toward three silhouetted monsters. One is obviously the evil robotic nanny that he will fight (probably) in the next episode; the one in the middle is the RX-78-2.
The anime's entertaining, for sure. But I won't demand everyone here watch it. I ~do~ demand, however, that everyone read the manga.

I'm working on the anime and the manga right now and all I can say is a lifetime's worth of ROFLs. This is one of the funniest, if not the funniest, comedy that I have ever seen (possibly surpassing all Monty Python works combined).
Too many references to count. If someone can find all of them, you win teh internets 3 times as much. I enjoy seeing the random MÄR cameos and can find most of them. Katsura's sister doing Saito Hajime's Aku Soku Zan and the Minovsky Drive references gave a good 2 minutes of laughter. It must have taken enormous amounts of otakuing to put in so many references. Its now my primary comedy source.

The anime is bothersome... especially compared to the manga, but I suppose it's still good. Well, like most great manga, the scanlations are pretty much perpetually-stalled, so I've been watching more of the anime.
I will share this.

Left-to-Right, since it's in "english."
EDIT: a Rick-Dias shows up later in the same episode, actually. Not a model, but an actual Rick-Dias.
