Assuming Origin will be a 50 episodes TV series starting in October:
-BD/DVD sales will surely fight for 1st place among other shows.
-Every MS(all color/custom variations) will get an HG(they already hinted at a new HG line) and most will get a MG. For reference just check all 0079 anime HGUCs and MGs already available. Add to that: Gundam MC upgrade, 3 new GM variations, flashback stuff(Zaku prototypes, HM Tristar Zaku I, old Guncannon, etc). The revenue from gunpla will be RIDICULOUS.
-OST will probably a mix of old songs and new stuff, guaranteed to sell a lot.
-Other kind of merchandise and licensing.
-Games, hopefully something decent.
I doubt it will get a manga adaptation, but I'm hoping it will net us a new MSV line.
Bamco will fill their vaults with gold bars which they could use to fund a FT anime and a HF OVA

I think Bamco is replaceing the original Gundam series with Origins as the start of the Universal Century timeline. They started streaming Z and ZZ Gundam series on sites and skipped streaming the original series. I can't think of any other reason why they would not stream it. It was on sites before Bamco started streaming Gundam themselves.

Re: How much money will Origin print?
I'm guessing the Origin won't be as huge of a cash cow as they're planning. If Japanese fans are any indication, the results of the manga adaptation were somewhat mixed. Many fans were upset that some of the story arcs remained exactly the same, while others were just in it for the new background material they've presented. The question of it remains is to whether or not Sunrise will choose to officially adapt the Loum/Outbreak of War chapters into the official continuity. If so, we're going back to the MS IGLOO adaptation of the setup, which is really quite an eyesore.
I don't think we will see another new MSV line. They're already pushing full stream ahead with the MSV-R manga adaptations of Shin Matsunaga. They've already covered Ramba Ral.

I have to agree; I doubt that an animated adaptation of a manga would get a manga adaptation.balofo wrote:I doubt it will get a manga adaptation, but I'm hoping it will net us a new MSV line.
I am looking forward to an Origin anime though, even if it's never going to get ported to the States, because I want to see it as I am really, really enjoying reading Vertical's releases of the manga over here.
Hopefully it will at least be streamed through Gundam.info's Youtube channel, and I can get to enjoy it that way.

Well, I am going to admit. I am one of those people who never watched the original due to the horrid animations they used. I know its a classic, but one of the things I really enjoy in Gundam is the "mecha-porn". So I definitely look forward to a new Gundam Origin if they were to reanimate everything anew.

Hint regarding Gundam continuity. They never replace anything, and unlikely to start it now.battletech wrote:I think Bamco is replaceing the original Gundam series with Origins as the start of the Universal Century timeline.

IIRC, there really is no "canon" when it comes to Gundam continuity.battletech wrote:I think Bamco is replaceing the original Gundam series with Origins as the start of the Universal Century timeline. As long as the work is animated, it has as much....legitimacy as any other animated works it may or may not conflict with continuity wise.
For instance I remember when people were asking Sunrise whether or not the Zeta Gundam movie trilogy replaced the Zeta Gundam TV series as the official story during that time period in the UC. Sunrise's response was somewhere along the lines of "it's whatever you want it to be".
Re: How much money will Origin print?
Well, one should never count one's Gundam chickens before they hatch. I'm sure there's many here who would agree with me. That being said, Gundam the Origin should do nicely; I don't expect it to be the #1 seller, much less have it advance to the dizzying heights of K-ON. The best thing about Gundam the Origin from the buyer's perspective though is that there isn't anything really new, per se. The Origin is the facelift reboot the old girl has needed for a while. The movies were showing their age in 1989 in terms of production when I saw them the first time, and the years have not been kind. There will be some changes & additions, but the main characters and the main story will remain the same. So with nostalgia rather than shiny novelty as a marketing draw, sales will be good but not amazing. I do think the BD/DVD sales will do well as a result, and gunpla will do alright, but not as good as the obligatory FPS shooter games with all-new MS additions. At least 1 seems to be mandatory per anime release, and I expect no less than 3; an average-level one for the PS4 & 2 good ones for social network gaming.

I know just saying they do seem to be making sure both are not showing together or close to each other. They seem to be keeping the original under warps so peoples first exposure is Origin.zetatype wrote:IIRC, there really is no "canon" when it comes to Gundam continuity.battletech wrote:I think Bamco is replaceing the original Gundam series with Origins as the start of the Universal Century timeline. Origin gunpla is guaranteed to be highest selling since 00, you can bet your life on it
Re: How much money will Origin print?
I'll be impressed if/when Origin kits beat the current run on GBF kits & option parts, with added HG kits of all kinds sold for customization purposes.balofo wrote:Origin gunpla is guaranteed to be highest selling since 00, you can bet your life on it

Re: How much money will Origin print?
Well if they are making a new line just for Origin expect it to be superior to the current HGUC ones. I'd bet only the sales of the RX-78 and MS-06S will top everything everZeonista wrote:I'll be impressed if/when Origin kits beat the current run on GBF kits & option parts, with added HG kits of all kinds sold for customization purposes.balofo wrote:Origin gunpla is guaranteed to be highest selling since 00, you can bet your life on it

Actually I think Gundam UC was just as successful, if not more so.balofo wrote:Origin gunpla is guaranteed to be highest selling since 00, you can bet your life on it
Speaking of Gundam UC I think Origin will probably be the follow up to that format wise. It'll be targeted at the same audience not to mention Unicorn was more successful than any TV show in recent years. I don't see Sunrise releasing it on TV as it doesn't fit their audience profile
Re: How much money will Origin print?
Erm, did 00 Gunpla even do that well? I don't know many people that do customs of them, nor do I see the HG 00 line used very often. Most of the time I see kits customized from either the UC series, or things like the Beargguy or, in recent times, the HGBF line. Hell, I think I've seen more displays of AGE kits than the HG Seed or HG 00 lines, which, IMO, were kinda sub-par (at least compared to their HGUC counterparts in terms of colors and such. Some of the 00 kits even had those ugly mono-color beam sabers.)
I am legitimately curious though, since I don't know how the models usually do, I just go off of what I see with customs and whatnot.

HG00 did VERY well, to the point it led to somewhat ludicrous predictions for HG AGE sales (something dumb like they expected AGE to make 200% what 00 did or some such).

Re: How much money will Origin print?
As a fan of Star Wars for a while (I still enjoy it, just not as much as I did during my teens), this is the correct attitude to have. Just pick what you like and go for it. Continuity is nice, but there's no need for EVERY detail of every story to be perfect. You'll go crazy if you try, and many have.zetatype wrote:IIRC, there really is no "canon" when it comes to Gundam continuity.battletech wrote:I think Bamco is replaceing the original Gundam series with Origins as the start of the Universal Century timeline. Re: How much money will Origin print?
Thankfully, THE ORIGIN barely affects later UC continuity, if at all. Most of its changes are only to stuff that has no relevance beyond MSG in the anime sphere of things, making it easy to swap around the original anime, the movies, and THE ORIGIN as one sees fit. God bless ya, Yas.
But I've actually been curious about how much of an impact the manga made in hardcore circles for a while now. It has consistently good reviews on Amazon Japan but little in the way of merchandise (a couple MSiA from a while back, that GFF Metal Composite figure, and no plamo to speak of), and that seems to be at least one way to gauge the popularity of a given series. If that's the case, then THE ORIGIN manga seems to be mostly kind of ignored by the majority of hardcore fans.
Which makes sense. It's hardly the first manga retelling of the original series, and even though it's one of exceptionally high quality, I can easily see many fans giving it a look, a shrug, and a pass based on its medium alone. I remember Yas saying something along the lines of "I hope fans will see this as the definitive First Gundam" in an interview, and I thought he was crazy because of course they won't. I mean, I do, and it kind of makes sense to, but even though Yas' minor changes are all to stuff that affects none of the other anime series they do still mess up decades of guidebooks and info. The hardcore fans care about that kind of stuff.
The anime will definitely throw it into the limelight more, and we'll see how that affects things. But the fact remains that aside from the Char and Sayla bits, it lacks any major novelty and is by and large what fans have already seen before. New animation and music will give it a more mileage than, say, re-runs of the original series, and there's bound to be plamo (big reason I've held off on the 3.0 - but again, those are basically glorified MSVs of kits that already have a million models), but I honestly would be amazed if it managed anything even close to Unicorn level sales.
For what it's worth, I know a few Japanese fans who got REALLY into it once they read it - two were longtime fans of the original MSG, and the rest were mostly people who had no prior exposure to Gundam beyond pop culture osmosis.

The HG Trailblazer line was oddly short lived. I think one of the Gunpla designers was throwing us a bone by how they designed the Seravee II pack "Here! With this and a HG Seravee you can make a passable custom of II! Tell the people! TELL THEM!"Heaven Piercing Man wrote:Considering that, it pains me even more that we didn't get the Alvatore, Gaga, GN-XIV, Flag Setsuna Custom and Seravee II.HellCat wrote:HG00 did VERY well, to the point it led to somewhat ludicrous predictions for HG AGE sales (something dumb like they expected AGE to make 200% what 00 did or some such).
