The Official Gundam: The Origin Anime Thread Mk I
Re: Another Gundam Incoming
I'll hold off commenting till I hear more about what they plan on doing. For all we know, they may cherry pick points out of the manga as opposed to a full adaptation.

Re: Another Gundam Incoming
If I'm not wrong both arcs are present in THE ORIGIN manga. The Kai spy girl arc is in Volume 15 and the Texas Colony is in Volume 16. This is just my guess that they are included since the image on Volume 15 was of Kai and her, while the image on Volume 16 was of M'Quve Gyan.LightningCount wrote:Yeah, I don't know, either. I'm just nervous because the MSG Movies cut the awesome Texas Colony duel, and I think, IIRC, they either cut or trimmed down the water mobile suit segments of the series with that excellent Kai side-story.Kratos wrote:Were they not intact in the manga? I haven't gotten that far yet.LightningCount wrote:complete with the Texas Colony and Kai's spy girl water arc intact
I know it's sort of a remake since I have some volumes of the Origin, so I know nothing different happens in the Timeline. I just meant is the pre one year war stuff that happens considered all canon now because if it is then there is lots of problems that are going to occur (Example: Guntank existing back in 0068 by both Federation and Zeon). However, since you said Japan doesn't have canon then I guess it doesn't.pd771 wrote:Remember, there is no such thing as canon in Japan. This doesn't mean there's any change to the timeline. It's just a different take on the original story.Gundamfan wrote:WOW!!! I can't believe it actually happened. I always wanted this to be animated and what do you know, it is going to happen. I can't wait to see the pre one year war chapters animated. Especially the whole Casval meeting Char and the Battle of Loum. I wonder though, will they make this a TV series or OVA?
Also, does this mean that the Origin events are now Canon?
Re: Another Gundam Incoming
Assuming this is true, I find it interesting enough.
Personally, I would've rather they adapted For the Barrel... though, I admit, that's mostly because I'm obsessed with finding whatever I can about For the Barrel.

Re: Another Gundam Incoming
Wow. I honestly never saw this coming (but it does somewhat cast light on why the original is getting a new DVD release). What a great way to reintroduce the Gundam series from the beginning. Hopefully (but I doubt it) this will reignite Gundam's popularity in the US and give Bandai an excuse to bring over some of the other shows.
Re: Another Gundam Incoming
Let's wait before we start with the rosy assessments. People always assume that whatever the new Gundam series is will somehow magically "reignite" the franchise's popularity in America, but they ignore the fact that Gundam's popularity peaked here with Wing, and that was 11 years ago. In other words, in the mass market context, Gundam was just a fad and nothing more.BloodKnight wrote:Hopefully (but I doubt it) this will reignite Gundam's popularity in the US and give Bandai an excuse to bring over some of the other shows.

Yeah but I'm always hoping . And to kill hope even more, there is really no guarantee that we even get Origin over here either.Chris wrote:Let's wait before we start with the rosy assessments. Re: Another Gundam Incoming
Yeah. Wing was a special product of content (a variety of episode-by-episode action), timing (art style was a big leap from Robotech), and the one-of-a-kind marketing of Toonami (they made the initial TV failure of DBZ into a HUGE hit). 08th Team and G did relatively well through Toonami's prism of marketing--but Toonami was on life support by the time SEED came around. The fact that Gundam 00 on SyFy failed to "reignite" popularity in the States, despite its first half's Western leanings, tells me its nigh impossible to make Gundam a mainstream phenomenon again. For that matter, anime has died down in popularity since the Toonami golden age. The rise of individualization through instantaneous micro-media entertainment via cell phones have made productions like anime (IE: Gundam) less and less likely to succeed in a big way like in the late 90s. Attention span and value toward such entertainment has faded in the mainstream as a whole. Sad but evidently true.BloodKnight wrote:Yeah but I'm always hoping . Re: Another Gundam Incoming
Can we not go back into the tired conversation of 'what will make Gundam popular in America again?'. We have had that a dozen times and it leads nowhere. I also personally don't care much, not being American and all.
Anyway.
Back to discussion about the Origin, for those who have read further than tankoubon 4, does the manga focus more on Amuro or Char? Because I made the hilarious discovery just now, that of the first 21 tankoubon covers, only 4 depict Amuro and around 10 depict Char. Maybe the anime should be called 'Mobile Suit Gundam: The Char'

Re: Another Gundam Incoming
Char is significantly more popular in Japan than Amuro, so he is bound to sell more volumes.Kosh wrote:Back to discussion about the Origin, for those who have read further than tankoubon 4, does the manga focus more on Amuro or Char? Besides, with The Origin's love of back stories, Chas has more room to grow. We get a decent look at Amuro's family history when he meets his mother on Earth, but Char's past as the deposed son of a near-mythical figure in the Universal Century is more easily romanticized.

Re: Another Gundam Incoming
The backstory bits focus almost exclusively on Char, though there is a bit there for Amuro (like Imperial said). However, in the actual story proper, Amuro is the protagonist and gets the most focus, just like in the original series.

Re: Another Gundam Incoming
I'm super excited because they just gotta put this in high definition and I have a question.
Do we get to see the earlier versions for Amuro's Gundam in Origin? It was the 78th one right?

Mobile Suit Gundam Rebirth A rogue space team called U-FEA is in search for the Beacon of Hope for the future of humanity. They will have to use the blueprints of the Mobile Weapons before them as part of their arsenal to take down the Xen-Dominion.
Re: Another Gundam Incoming
I don't think so. The bits of the Backstory Arc that I've read does indeed show Gundam development meetings, but they don't show it as a work in progress. You do see some of the very early Zaku predecessors, though.Darkerangel wrote:Do we get to see the earlier versions for Amuro's Gundam in Origin? It was the 78th one right?

I think the model number refers to the year the suit was put into production, not how many were made. There is a Prototype Gundam in the manga:Darkerangel wrote:I'm super excited because they just gotta put this in high definition and I have a question.

Actually, it was the second (RX-78-2). As Imperial said, the "78" refers IIRC to UC 0078, the year the Gundam was put into production; Likewise the RX-75(Guntank) and RX-77(Guncannon)Darkerangel wrote:Do we get to see the earlier versions for Amuro's Gundam in Origin? It was the 78th one right?

Re: Another Gundam Incoming
I have a question, but I shall put it in spoilers for the sake of those who have not read the manga or novel who may not want to be spoiled.
Spoiler
I have read this previously up to chapter Eleven, and it strays significantly in some aspects from the tv series. Such as the white base landing near Los Angeles and white base just heading directly south to Jaburo and not going around the globe. Well any way my question is, will the manga follow some aspects from the Novel? Such as the relationship between Sayla and Amuro in the novel which was somewhat hinted but not fully explored in the series and completely ignored in later series. Has it reached to that point in the manga yet? or is it still a way off or may never happen?

As far as I can tell, the major deviations are primarily restricted to location and the order they happen in. None of the characters have differed, nor have any of the outcomes of the story's main events been changed in any way. This makes a relationship between Amuro and Sayla unlikely, and indeed, the two have barely had any interaction outside their official duties.
There may be something with Fraw, though; there was this really well-framed moment during Ghiren's speech where, with words of Zabi nationalism splashed across the page, she reaches up for Amuro's hand in fear, and he takes it. I wish I had a scan to show you, but I thought it really helped get across the intimidation of the speech

Spoiler
It doesn't really stray that much. What it does do is flip when the events of Jaburo and Odessa happen. Rather than having White Base land in "New Yark", fly to Africa, then to West Asia and back to South America, the manga has them land in LA (where Garma is now headquartered, follow the coast to Jaburo, then head to Odessa. It just had the ship act in a lot more logical fashion and cuts out some of the filler.

This could be totally unrelated, but reading Tomino's recently released book, Gundam no Kazoku Ron, he mentions that he is currently doing research for his next production, although he doesn't say what it is.

I would assume that's regarding his Ideon reboots (in a similar vein to the Zeta Gundam New Translation Movies)2NA Fish wrote:This could be totally unrelated, but reading Tomino's recently released book, Gundam no Kazoku Ron, he mentions that he is currently doing research for his next production, although he doesn't say what it is.
