This short manga was published in Bandai´s B-CLUB VISUAL Mobile Suit Gundam 0080 War in the Pocket
manga anthology #1 of 1989. The implied space fighter might be a Tomahawk as seen in my earlier contributions
based on the descriptions as seen in Tomino´s First Gundam novel trilogy.

During the closing days of the One Year War in December 0079, the Iron Scorpion elite corps of the Zeon forces led by Colonel Cranberry
is ordered to destroy their own 18th Supply Base in Tanzania, Africa, because it has sensitive information that
must be hidden from the advancing Earth Federation Forces.
The veteran ace pilot does the job very well, so he thinks. But what he does not know is that there indeed are
a few survivors: the 16 year old mechanic John Quest can escape the inferno, his girl friend Emilia, and Nurse Luria.
Now he wants revenge and pursues Cranberry to the Gedo Fortess near Aden, commanded by MacGuire.
In a fierce duel Quest can defeat the ace pilot, but he reveals that he was ordered by Gihren Zabi himself to destroy the base to distract
the Earth Federation Forces from the soon completion of the Solar Ray colony laser...
Background:
First released in 1986 by Keibunsha´s Hero Adventure Books was the second gamebook novel by
this publisher.
In 1989 to the celebration of Gundam´s 10th Anniversary a reprint was done by Bandai, but now
labeled as "Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 - Burning Pursuit" along with a new cover artwork.
Interestingly, John Quest [ジョン・クエスト] is mentioned in the Entertainment Bible 39 Strategy and Tactics Encyclopedia together
with another Zeon character (Erich Hartmann, nicknamed "Silver Fox of the Sea", commander of the Jukon class U-202).
However, on this latter there is a little confusion, because all other sources do actually report in the gamebook a guy
named "Silver Fox" Hartmann (without the first name), but they always indicate him as a Federation pilot.
We are tending to think that EB's indication is simply "wrong", or, if you prefer,
that it reports a different, albeit nearly homonym, character (which, unlike
his Federation counterpart, isn´t featured in the gamebook!).

Besides Roberto's unit, characterized by a bird head

Background:
This manga was published in Kadokawa's GundamAce # 110 as a four page long preview.
The pictures you can see below are coming from this work.
Four columns followed named Tsutomu Nihei X Gundam, where information
on his view on Gundam were provided. The respective issues are # 111, # 112, # 113 and # 115.
In the issue # 115 it was finally announced that the manga was stipulated to launch with issue # 116.
But that didn´t happen so far with is no offical statement by Nihei nor the responsible editors.
So a start can´t be exactly determined.
Speaking of the mangaka Nihei is known for this off-the-wall, artistic style + writing which leads
me to the conclusion that he was influenced by European artists like H.R. Giger of the
ALIEN franchise.
If news pop up, you will get of course an updated version covering this entry.

U.C. 0088. Eight years since the end of the One Year War have passed and a man
named Baker is working as a truckdriver. But what he doesn´t know he suffers amnesia,
in other words: he is a Zeon soldier named Bulk, a veteran of the Battle of Odessa.
During an attack of Earth Federation Forces MS troops he regains his memory. But the EFF MS are not piloted by soldiers,
they are a group of ravaging bandits!
With the help of six former Zeon soldiers he can rebuild
seven MS from scrap. Now he fights Carlos Radi, the leader of the bandits with his
own MS army to let justice prevail!
Background:
Originally published as a photo-story only in Model Graphix 1987-07 issue,
it was later reprinted as a more detailed text version along with a few manga
illustrations in the book "Gundam Wars II Mission ZZ".
The name of the main character (Bulk or Balk) is a clear
reference to the commander of Frederick Brown's team (Bruno Bulk or Bruno Balk)
in the already mentioned very first Gundam manga drawn by Kondo.
It's not completely clear whether it's intended to be the same person or not:
he was believed to be killed by Amuro at Odessa, but if the man of this story is
really the same, he obviously managed to survive somehow (and his amnesia would
explain why he didn't reunited with his comrades after the battle of Odessa).
The story is adapted from Akira Kurosawa´s movie Seven Samurai of 1954.
Although the art was made by Kazuhisa Kondo seven different professional modellers used their skills to
provide the MS to this story. Unfortunately, the novel doesn't provide model numbers for
the specific MS used by the seven Samurai, so below they are listed by their mere names.

Marasai Variations
Background: please merge these entries into the "Model Kit Instructions Variations"
section. The following Marasai variations are drawn by Makoto Kobayashi related to a
statement found in B-CLUB #21.
The images we are here providing are coming the 1/220 Marasai garage kit manual
produced by Kotobukiya (Goikenmuyo Factory) and also designed by him.
We are also reporting some information for the various Marasais, directly from the instructions of the above-mentioned garage kit.
Besides, although this fact is not explicitely stated, we believe that all these RMS-108 variations have I-field barrier generators installed on their chest
(at least, the design of this part is the same that Kobayashi uses for surely I-field equipped MS, such as the RMS-108G seen in Legend of G manga or the MS-05 of the "Solomon Express" line)...
Moreover, judging from the comparison with the pilot, we are noting that the RMS-108S (and most probably all the remaining Marasais) is about 9.5 m tall, i.e. less than half compared to
the "true" RMS-108 from Z Gundam (actually, this is not so strange, considering that Kobayashi designed also some PMX-003 / PMX-003II variations which are merely 5-6 m high).
