Re: Mailbag Drop Box Mk II

Neo, last year while I was talking to my friend, who happened to be a Japanese girl, she said that she wanted a model of the Guntank because "it is cute." how do you respond to that?

P.S: Good news, there are also quite a few episodes of Dexter's Laboratory that also teach kids that A.I robots are evil. In one episode, Dexter creates an A.I assistant that later tries to overthrow and murder him(LITERALLY tried to kill him). It was very effective because I remember being scared by that episode. So now I'm finally seeing where you are coming from. If you wanna check it out, it's called "Ultrabot 2000." Kids must learn the truth. Because apparently, Dexter never does. He gave one of his mobile suits artificial intelligence for goodness sake.

Gundamn Crew,

I need a verdict on a weighty matter of fandom: Which is more annoying: Transformers fans who buy everything and complain when they get more, or Gundam fans who don't buy anything and complain when they get less? As part of your verdict, how would you punish each of these nefarious groups of evil doers?

Rewatching SDF Macross TV Series

Hey guys.

Newly registered guy here, but long time listener.
I'm re-watching the original 1982 SDF Macross TV series on my Animeigo DVD's. For a DVD release done in 2001, they really did a good job with the material they had. The video is pretty decent and the mono audio clear.

Plot wise, it's a bit goofy at times, but I have to keep reminding myself when this show was produced and that its primary target audience would have been children.

The one thing that really makes me sigh though is the animation. This series really is like Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde. The Anime Friends episodes are so terribly animated (think the knife fight scene between Max & Milia), but, the Artland episodes are the total opposite: so beautifully animated, especially episode 27. The fight against the Bodolza main fleet is very detailed for a TV show of that era. I can only wonder how long it took them to animate this particular episode.

On another note, I want to say: Curse you Chris!!!! Whenever I heard "My Boyfriend Is a Pilot", I couldn't help but hear it in the Old Timey News Voice. Please do a favor for me: don't ever do "Do You Remember Love" in that voice, please please please. I'm down on my knees pleading.

Anyways, keep up the great work on this show, and have a good summer Chris. Rest well.

If this question won't take too long to answer, how would you guys customize your own Megas? What car would be your head, what mech would be the body, and what would you design your cockpit with?

Re: Mailbag Drop Box Mk II

Hello Gundamn three! I just wish to say thank you for creating an awesome source of fun, info, and lunacy. Chris, thanks for your wonderful sites that have brought people together even if they might act like knuckle heads half the time. Also thanks for providing advice to those lost in hopes and dreams. It's nice to hear a realist explain things. Neo, thanks for being a resolute ill-informed reporter and robo-hater. It has made for very entertaining moments and has made people aware of how great robot rulers would be. Soulbro, thank you for this awesome show and your positive energy (such happy laughter, dude). You may be the butt of many jokes and pokes on the show, but you are the one to make it all happen so thank you for bringing these guys together for a cool show. It's a joy to listen to you.

Speaking of coolness and joy. Ever thought of having a robot apocalypse or Tomes round up? You know so everyone can be as informed as Neo on those robot "threats".
People ask me if I'm a cat or a dog person. I'm actually a dog person. They taste better.

Re: Mailbag Drop Box Mk II

Hi, Gundamn! Crew!

To commemorate the end of the Star Wars EU, I'd like to offer up two EU themed robopocalypse questions.

1) For all of the hosts: The Robots take a page out of Lando Calrissian's playbook and program themselves to shout in battle - "We are Machines! We are greater than the Humans!". How do you respond?

2) A Robopocalypse dilemma for Neo, but the other hosts' answers are also welcome. During the war against the Machines, the Yuuzhan Vong invade. The Vong's religion is built around Hatred of Mechanical technology, Inflicting Pain, and enslaving others to serve them and their gods. They offer to ally with the humans and exterminate the machines. The machines, fearing their doom, offer an armistice to form a common front against the Vong. There are three known outcomes and one unknown:

a: You ally with the machines. The Vong are defeated, but both Machines and Humans lose sixty percent of their populations. There's also a nuclear winter that will last a century. At the Thirty year mark, hostilities will resume and there's a fifty percent chance that humanity will lose and suffer extinction or enslavement. In this scenario, Lords King and Bay will fall and the Admiral will be paralyzed from the waist down, leaving Neo the only champion.

b: You ally with the Vong. The Vong exterminate the machines, but betray and enslave humanity, robbing us of our free will and dooming us to an eternity of pain. All mechanical technology is destroyed, and the Vong turn Earth into a hellish Jungle world where all animal and plant life is trying to kill you. In this scenario, all four of humanity's champions fall.

c: Ally with neither. The Vong exterminate the robots and suffer thirty percent casualties, but not before the Humans suffer fifty percent casualties from both sides. The humans will be able to repel the Vong, but as in the first scenario, Earth suffers a century long nuclear Winter and only 10% of Humanity will remain. After the Nuclear Winter, the second wave of Vong will arrive. In this scenario Neo, the Admiral and Lord King will fall, leaving Sir Bay the only champion.

d: Your own personal solution to this dilemma.

What do you do?

Have fun!

Re: Mailbag Drop Box Mk II

Hey Gundamn crew,

Been wondering if you guys are watching the new show, Knights of Sidonia. The show seems pretty interesting; the setting is a somewhat new take on the post-apocalypse, the mecha combat is solid, actual interesting sci-fi, and the character interactions don't make you want to kill said characters. There is some highschool-type drama in there (since the stars are teens), but they juxtapose the sometimes trite drama with said teenagers dying horribly.

Have you guys been watching? If so, what do you think? If not, would you guys give it a shot?

Re: Mailbag Drop Box Mk II

Hey guys. Gundamn mechanic here. 2 more questions for after the robot apocalypse.

1- Neo at some point in the robot war you're shot down. You survive but are separated from Lord King, Sir Bay, the Admiral, and all of your elite fighters. You stumble into a small village that is under robot attack. This village is populated by only the secondary characters from the gundam universes. Now you must assemble a rag tag dysfunctional team of pilots from the gundam universes that don't get along and go on a near suicide mission and against all odds, save the village and get you back to command. Who do you choose for the best/gundam pilot team mash up. Think mighty ducks but of gundam pilots.

2- The war is over and you won. You must build a memorial for all the soul bro's men that where sacrificed as cannon fodder to save the world. What would it look like?

Re: Mailbag Drop Box Mk II

HELLO
1. I recently heard that the name Tallgeese originates from the term theurgist and not a tall geese. Likewise, are there any cases where you thought a mecha's name meant or derived from something but turned out it originated from something unexpected?

2. Which celebrity do you guys think could be a possible closeted mecha junky? For example, Liam Neeson owning five lions that are dyed black, red, green, blue, and yellow or Hugo Weaving cosplaying as Gihren when no one is around and reciting the death of Garma speech.

3. Two RX-78-2 Gundams fitted with different power sources are at a 1 on 1 combat situation. Which will win, Solar-powered Gundam that has all these panels on its body or Wind-powered Gundam that is decked out with windmills all over its body? To allow equal fight conditions the field is a windy deesert.

Re: Mailbag Drop Box Mk II

Gundamn Crew,

For some reason a new company decides it's a great idea to take three-unrelated mecha anime and make them into one continuity, and have chosen you to select the source material and the new over-arching story. What three shows do you choose and how do you slam them together?

Re: Mailbag Drop Box Mk II

O hai guys.
1. As you know in LoGH, people kept saying "if only Kircheis were alive" when some horrible stuff happens after season 1. It was practically the "FML" of that show. What 2 moments from other Anime would you feel could fit that certain line, despite Kircheis not being in those shows? Any real life examples you would like to share where you would say "if only Kircheis were alive?"

2. Would you rather team up with the Vagans to eradicate the Earth Cult, or join the Earth Cult to eradicate the Vagans?

3. For each of you: So you, Roy, Dennis, Fellini, and Yang WenLi have plans for drinking one night. The night already comes but you realize last minute that you need a designated driver. Who would you choose to be the designated driver?

4. You have plans to drink with the same as above, but some messed up hunger games situation forces you to have to kill one of them in order to drink with the others. If you choose no one, then you will die. Who would you choose?

Re: Mailbag Drop Box Mk II

How's it going Gundamn crew,

1. While Gundam may be science-fiction fantasy and sometimes we have to give certain scenarios the benefit of the doubt because it is fiction, there are some things that make me go wtf, like why the heck does Freedom fall in space in Seed, and in Gundam Seed Electric Boogaloo, the Destiny and the Minerva both fall to the moon after being destroyed. None of these scenarios should be possible due to the lack of gravity. So my question is, what are those scientifically ridiculous moments in Gundam that grind your gears?

2. With progress on the upcoming Battle Angel Alita movie going smoothly (sarcasm), if you could get someone else to to direct it, who would it be and who would play Alita?
P.S.
This is for Chris and Soulbro because we all know what Neo's going to say. Y'know, before he devolves into his usual frothing-at-the-mouth, delusional ranting about robot apocalypses.

Also, hail to the robot overlords! Muwahahaha! :D

3. Seeing as how Psychoframe technology seems capable of making the impossible possible, what would you use that technology for?
P.S.
Again Neo is excluded from this question for obvious reasons. Hahaha! (twirls moustache)

4. With Gundam Extreme Vs Maxi Boost's roster continuously growing, what obscure mobile suit that has never been animated would you like to put in that game? To make things a little more fun you can choose both one you genuinely want, and a troll choice.

5. Thinking about episode 149, I couldn't help but wonder something. The internet has alot of online video reviewers with certain gimmicks, though most of them rely on the "angry reviewer" gimmick (ala the Angry Video Game Nerd) or act like pretentious film school rejects (ala most of the contributers on ThatGuyWithTheGlasses). While these people can't be responsible for the way people in general act online (since most of them play "characters"), do you think it's possible they unintentionally end up encouraging this uptight, arm chair director, douchebag attitude we often see in the online nerd community? Y'know the kind of fanboy who thinks that a story has to be deep/complex/sophisticated to be considered good or overanalyzes everything to the point of absurdity (i.e. "OMG There's bread in her mouth!").

Not sure if this has been brought up before, but, for Soul Bro:

What are your thoughts and the Arcana Heart fighting game series? Are they any good, and would you recommend them?

Re: Mailbag Drop Box Mk II

Hi, Gundamn! crew!

1) This question is for Neo. Gundamn! reviewed 00 long before the Human resistance league was formally established. Where do you stand on the Innovades/Innovators? Especially on Tieria, who fused his consciousness with Veda and is pretty much the benevolent version of Skynet?

2) This question is for Soulbro, as he's previously described himself as an MGS fan, but the other hosts' answers are welcome too. MGS4 introduced Robotic enemies. How would you compare fighting and sneaking against relatively powerful "Gekko" robots compared to human enemies? Does it make you change your combat tactics? I haven't played MGS4, but I've seen the Gekko robots in action. I'd imagine that they're more challenging than the human enemies in the rest of the series. What about you?

3)I hope it's still ok to ask this, but this is for Chris. In 2004 the mecha and anime review sections for UC Gundam in MAHQ were arranged in chronological order. They were then changed to appear in production order, which they have been to this day. May I ask why? I've always been curious about that...

Lock, load and don't let the Robots bite!

Re: Mailbag Drop Box Mk II

Greetings Podcast Meisters!

Throughout the years we have seen multiple obscure Mobile Suits make brief cameos throughout different Gundam shows. Perfect Example being Unicorn Ep 4 aka the Obscure MS Porn Power Hour. My question is are there any MS or even Gundams from manga, games, novels, etc that you would like to see animated that haven’t yet?

Thanks for taking my question and continue the good work!
