A belated congrats on the 100th episode, listening to the episode tonight for the first time. Surprised the day finally came when you covered Eva. Eva has always been an incredibly overrated show to me, I for the most part enjoyed it during my initial viewing but couldn't help but be a bit dissappointed that it wasn't as great as all the fanboys claimed it to be. In particular (as covered quite well during the podcast) it had a cast where practically every single character was completely loathsome; the only one I have had any like for is Misato. The show hit its peak around 2/3 of the way through and collapsed in tremendous fashion for the last half a dozen episodes, with the explain everything nature of episode 21 that flew so in the face with the narrative style of the previous 20 episodes, the immediate return of Rei that destroyed any emotional impact her death had, and the Kaworu - Shinji relationship which was presented as the greatest thing in the history of the world while having only half an episode of development. To top it off the final 2 episodes comprise the arguably the single worst ending in anime history, resolving nothing but the Shinji character, in a manner that I've always felt contradicted the way his character was presented for the previous 24 episodes. End of Eva I considered considerably better and actually enjoy quite a bit, still to this day one of my favorite anime movies.

In general I've always found the fandom the big problem, Much of Eva is a pretty good show, and End of Eva is something I'd consider great, but there is so much overrating of the show and so many misconceptions (chief among them the claim that Eva is original which its anything but, and the endless claims that every single mecha show made after Eva is a ripoff of it). Things I fought fanboys on for years back when I had more interest in anime than I do nowadays.
