The journey to the final frontier begins again today as principal photography starts on the twelfth Star Trek movie. This is the sequel to the 2009 film with Chris Pine as Kirk. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=85995The entire cast sans Pike returns with three newcomers to the mix. J.J. Abrams also returns to direct again, so expect plenty of gratuitous lens flares.

China is at it again with aother Gundam booleg rip off show. This one includes not only Gundam Seed and Eva, but Monsters vs Aliens as well. http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2012/01/16-1/video-chinese-xuyouji-rips-off-gundam-seed-with-hilarious-and-creepy-resultsQuote: Sometimes, mere words cannot describe the sheer audacity with which China liberally takes concepts from Japanese anime and mutates them together, oftentimes making direct copies of other series, or worse yet making the end result super creepy.
The latest in such Chinese efforts is XiYouJi, which takes elements from Gundam SEED and Evangelion to make....well see for yourself below (or start at 2:28 for maximum brain damage).
Story follow up. http://gundamguy.blogspot.com/2012/01/chinese-animedisney-lookalike-videos.htmlQuote: The Chinese service Xu You Ji lets parents pay to have their children turned into 3D models and animated in their own CG action-adventure shorts. The children also dub their own voices into the work. The custom video service debuted in 2009, but recently garnered attention because of one of its videos, featuring Gundam models and other anime elements, was posted online this week.
The company's FAQ page claims the following regarding copyrights:
"We design and develop our own animation with their own copyrights. They do contain elements of popular titles, but all are adapted ourselves so there is no copyright concerns."

George Lucas is retiring. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/22/magaz ... .html?_r=2Quote: “I’m retiring,” Lucas said. “I’m moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff.”
He was careful to leave himself an out clause for a fifth “Indiana Jones” film. But otherwise, “Red Tails” will be the last blockbuster Lucas makes. “Once this is finished, he’s done everything he’s ever wanted to do,” says Rick McCallum, who has been producing Lucas’s films for more than 20 years. “He will have completed his task as a man and a filmmaker.”

Yes, now we (well, some of us) can actually try out Yang's tea. Legend of the Galactic Heroes Café Opens in TokyoCafe celebrates space opera novels' 30th anniversary, upcoming stage play. Quote: The Legend of the Galactic Heroes Café opened at Tokyo's Tea Room 2525 on Saturday to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Yoshiki Tanaka's space opera novels. The café is now serving Yang's tea, Frederica's crêpe, and Alliance pancakes (with the Alliance's symbol on top in powdered sugar) for 600 yen (about US$7.80) each. so disney's japanese marketing branch has a habit of releasing album full of covers by japanese pop and rock acts every 2-3 years. this year is a little extra strange in that we have only male voice actors with mecha anime in thier background: there's Tomokazo seki (domon Kasshu, sosuke sagara) singing 'go the distance', hiroshi kamiya (tieria erde) singing 'you can fly', Kenichi suzumura (shinn asuka) singing 'a whole new world', jun fukuyama (lelouche) doing 'bippidipobidiboo", takahrio sakurai (suzaku) for 'when you wish upon a star', tomozaku suguta (Brooklyn 'bullet'luckfiel, kyon) covering 'one jump', hikaru midorikawa (heero yuy) doing 'can you feel the love tonight', toshiyuki morikawa (kyoske nanbu) singing 'once upon a dream', miyu irino (king arthur himself, saji crossroad) singing 'under the sea', and Koishi Yamadera (spike spiegel, gyunie guss) singing 'the circle of life' http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2012-01-25/10-japanese-voice-actors-cover-disney-songs-on-cdif you follow the link in the ann article you can preview 40ish seconds each song.

Just for the sake of trivia, because it's nice to see the guy acknowledge his own roots and do non-Eva stuff. Hideaki Anno Storyboards Yamato 2199's OpeningThe official Yamato Crew membership website announced on Wednesday that Evangelion director Hideaki Anno is storyboarding the opening for the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 project.
