Re: Neo's News - Listener Submitted News Articles MK II

Following up on the 1/1 life-sized Zaku-head with mono-eye coverage from the Shizuoka Hobby Show, Kotaku reports on, get this: life-sized UC Hard Graph(?!) Gundam vehicles:

http://kotaku.com/5802598/life+sized-gu ... /gallery/1

They actually work! According to the article, these are fan projects built from real cars (Mitsubishi make). As you can see in the gallery, a UC Hard Graph Otaku took the time to cosplay a gallant federation officer next to the Fed Jeep (no spacenoid rebel scum in sight... heh).

If you brave what appears to be the Italian Language coverage of the Hobby Show, they seem to go into actual detail of how they put those cars together. Picture here:

http://www.hobbymedia.it/img/2011/05/ha ... kota-2.jpg

I have to admit, despite my distaste for the entire concept of UC Hard Graph, the vehicles have a nice design at 1/1 scale.

Just to throw a comment in on that.
If I were to guess, probably because 98% of their Gundam-related income derives from Japanese audiences; the cost/benefit ratio likely isn't very pretty.

Hi Guys, looks like Bandai is getting some serious Chinese apologies for all those knock-off Gunplas, particularly from Hongli All Toys (i.e. TT Hongli).
"Besides being forced to pay the equivalent of USD$120,000 in legal fees and ceasing the sale and manufacture of its Gundam knock-offs, Hongli was ordered to write an apology in Business China, reports Japan's Inside Games. The apology was published on May 13. As of posting, Hongli's website still has pictures of the toys online, along with its own copyright notice."

Funnily enough, these are the same days Transformers 3 arrives in cinemas in the respective areas. Coincidence?

Possibly but what is the average American going to be concerned about more? A relatively obscure Japanese robot franchise or a Decepticon with tentacles, tentacle-raping a skyscraper?

You're missing the point. To the masses, both consist of robots beating the crap out of each other. Unforunately, some(possibly children) will be duped into buying the game, particularly after seeing the film.

As soon as Neo said we'd never get any ZOE kits, I knew I could count on the powers at Kotobukiya to give us at least one plastic kit from the series.

Gundam EX A. Basically Kamen Rider for the Gundam Universe. Lead characters are Leos Aroi, Cecilia Awaa, and their Haro. They will traveled to a Jupiter base called 'Jupiter Answer' or 'GA', where it contains a huge database about the history of humans. The story is essentially about these characters going into GA to collect data necessary for the evolution of mankind. This month's issue they will meet Gai Maurakumo and next month they will meet the characters from 00.

A Char's Zaku Custom Moped on sale in yahoo auctions:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interes ... -auctioned

A moped modified to resemble Char's Zaku II? Genius! The going price is 1,300 at the time of this writing; sounds like all Zeonic loyalist rebel scumnoids should bid right now.

A choice quote from the article:

"Katsudouka apologizes as someone who is not an evolved "Newtype" human, and therefore could not push the moped beyond its normal capabilities. (Thanks to a line of dialogue in the first Gundam series, Char's MS-06S Zaku II is well-known among fans for being "three times faster than" a regular Zaku II.)"

Really ANN reporter? That's the best you could come up with? You could have gone to *town* with that, but instead you just give us a boring explanation?

For shame!

Re: Neo's News - Listener Submitted News Articles MK II

My God, maybe AT-AT for America isn't so insane after all; our US Army has an AT-AT prototype:

http://dvice.com/archives/2011/05/us-armys-had-a.php

The article explains how the US army had a fully functional AT-AT (4 legged walker) in the late 1960's. The thing lacked turbolasers, but it could kick over cars and traverse terrain efficiently.

They didn't have computers capable of plotting which legs to move back then, so the project was scrapped because the operator got exhausted after 15 minutes of constantly (and carefully) deciding which leg to move next.

Damn.

This makes me wonder if the JSDF has a Gundam prototype they've been keeping under wraps.

I am not sure if you have this, nor do I think anyone announced this, but Gundam Unicorn ep. 1 is being released on DVD:

On a personal note, I have put off buying Unicorn till now. I put off buying Unicorn because it was only on blue-ray and I dont have a blue-ray player. But now I shall put my money where my mouth is and buy the DVD. Thank you Sunrise.
