Two news, one tragic and the other far less so (even if it may not actually happen).

Guys, can you please follow the guidelines for this thread where it clearly states that you should check to see if your news item has already been posted so that we don't have duplicates? It's absolute laziness to see two separate news items being repeated on this very same page right here. There's no reason why we should have three separate submissions of the Ideon story or two about the Macross II producer. It doesn't take more than a few seconds to look at one page and see if a story has already been mentioned.

Live action Akira movie could begin production as early as August

"the script has been given to Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix. The two leads are expected to come from that group of actors."

A list with a disappointing lack of Asian candidates.

It looks like Gundam: the 3d Battle is the number 1 selling 3ds game in Japan.

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/3370 ... _Sales.php

It also finished 5th overall in software sales.

I hope those happy purchasers of the newest Gundam title aren't struck blind by the 3ds; remember, you need a break every 15 minutes of gameplay lest your eyes melt from the visuals.

Anime News Network reports that sales of M.D. Geist Collector's Edition have skyrocketed to 100,000 units for the month of March:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... dam-uc-1-3

Oh wait, It's april 3rd already?

Nevermind, that article is about how you can score the Gundam Unicorn Volume 3 blu-ray early at a screening in a San Francisco theater. They're showing all 3 of the currently available episodes at $8 an addmision today (April 3rd). As mentioned previously, if you're a chump like me and actually pay for your OVA's, you can pick up the 3rd Blue Ray at the screening early before the April 7th release date.

I guess preordering is for mega chumps, not just the normal kind of fool :(

Re: Neo's News - Listener Submitted News Articles MK II

Cartoon Network's show lineup is missing Symbionic Titan, Genndy Tartakovsky's latest creation. CN seems to be citing it's lack of toys as the reason

"Genddy's moved on to Sony Pictures Animation. Titan got competitive ratings with other action shows, but what shut it down was it didn't have enough toys connected to it. If you don't have the, the studios don't want to renew for another season."

http://animationguildblog.blogspot.com/ ... toons.html

I really was into this show and I hope Genndy can give it a good send off. I will probably pick up the DVD. It's too bad that CN is letting Genndy go, his importance in establishing the network in the early days (PowerPuff Girls, Dexter's Lab) and the high quality of his shows (Samurai Jack, Clone Wars) seemed enough reason to let him do what he wanted.

Re: Neo's News - Listener Submitted News Articles MK II

Likely, you lot have all already read this, but I'm posting it here for posterity and because I get a sick thrill from the possibility of my name being mentioned in a podcast I enjoy listening to -

Apparently, animenewsnetwork scored an interview with Kazuhiro Furuhashi, the director of Gundam Unicorn:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/intervi ... -gundam-uc

Well worth the (short) read especially with regards to his feelings on how to properly direct a mecha show (despite this being his first time!); I'm sure a lot of us would agree with the points he makes.

Breaking News: Cute Robot Murdered!

Apparently, a Police SWAT robot on loan to a Florida sheriff's office was critically wounded by a naked man with an Ak-47:

http://www.wesh.com/news/27457227/detail.html

No word on whether the suspect was Evil Soul Bro, but I can't think of anyone else murderous enough to riddle what is essentially a darling Tachikoma full of assault rifle rounds.

Last Exile, Deadman Wonderland, Anohana Promos
The official website for Last Exile -Fam, The Silver Wing- (Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam), the new anime series in Gonzo's Last Exile franchise, began streaming the first promotional video off the Flying Dog music label's YouTube channel on Friday. Director Koichi Chigira, character designer Range Murata, and production designer Makoto Kobayashi are all returning from the first Last Exile anime, but the new person in charge of scripts is Kiyoko Yoshimura.

The story centers around Fam (Aki Toyosaki), a girl from an aerial family in an adventure set in the open skies. The new television series will premiere at Anime Expo in Los Angeles during the extended July 1-4 holiday weekend...

... On Thursday, the American television channel G4 began streaming a 3-minute series of clips from Wolverine, the Japanese anime based on the American comics character from Marvel's X-Men franchise. G4 will broadcast the four Marvel/Madhouse anime titles starting with Iron Man and Wolverine this July. (X-Men is currently airing in Japan.) The preview clip is in Japanese, although Marvel recently revealed that Heroes actor Milo Ventimiglia will provide the voice of the title character.
I cannot wait for the new Last Exile, no Steven Jay Blum for Wolverine, oh well.

Scryed Alteration's Remastering to Add New Footage
The official website of the Scryed television anime series confirmed on Friday that the planned special edition of the anime will include new footage. Scryed Alteration will re-edit the 26-episode anime into two volumes with all-new audio recordings, digital remastering, and some new footage. The special edition is part of the Scryed 10th Anniversary Project; the science-fiction series first aired in Japan in July of 2001.
More remakes and retellings, whatever it something.

Re: Neo's News - Listener Submitted News Articles MK II

So here is one big piece of news not mecha anime related, but still anime related.

4Kids Entertainment file for Bankruptcy
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... bankruptcy

So it looks like their days are numbered and I know in particular this would interest Chris if Neo reads this out, Chris may have to bring out the straight talk express for a hit&run on 4Kids and One Piece :P
