Re: Topic Submission Thread Mark II

Ok so here is my topic submission idea.
Discussion and comparisson of old and new mecha anime series.

Or more specifically original versions of a series to a remake.
Not ones that are partial remakes, but have like the same mech or design at least in principle.

Examples I can think of.
Gaiking to Gaiking Legend of Daiku Maryu
Mazinger Z to Mazinkaiser
Getter Robo series in comparisson to New Getter Robo
Steel Jeeg to the new Steel Jeeg.

For examples some of the Gundam series aren't straight up remakes.
SEED intergrates elements of MSG and Zeta and SEED Destiny is like Zeta also.
So their elements are a mixed blend.

Those are just some ideas that come to mind feel free to expand on them.

With the holiday season looming in, I wonder if you guys have anything to be thankful for this year?

And which anime on DVD that were release within this year that you would recommend for anime fans; and with Andre's input, what gunpla kits are worth getting for X-mas?
How much better is being a Creepy Bishonen compared to an AEUG slapping boy?

If Ginrai, the Japanese truck driver living in America, can be the leader of Cybertron Forces, then what can a pizza delivery boy be?

Re: Topic Submission Thread Mark II

Another variant if review the Mazinger Super Robot series, perhaps do them all in the whole Mazinger family kind of as one big segment?

Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, UFO Robot Grendizer and Mazinkaiser.

Would save some time in essence.

I was wondering if you guys have done the new Reideen review? I think it can be a good discussion with the comparison between the original and the new interpretation of the series.

Or may be the re-branding trend of the old super robot series can be a nice topic of its own?

The greatest tacticians and strategic/tactical battles in anime. Not necessarily the most flashy ones but the battles/fights that showcase the strategy in using units effectively.

Re: Topic Submission Thread Mark II

Here is a simple suggestion and a revival of an idea you guys used once back in episode 20 or so.

"What is your current mecha anime?" make it the MK2 version, since already had the origional.
Got to make the new updated model now :P

Notable character themes in mecha anime series or video games.
As well as to expand on it, anime mech series that had really good soundtracks to them or downright bad/horrid ones for their music.

Another time for debate:

Have Neo go up against Jabman and watch the defender of destiny defend.

Austin vs Soul Bro: PS3 games vs 360 games or orphan children good or not

Chris vs troll

Austin vs Jabman in SEED vs Destiny

The G-Savior debate was great and would love to see more.

Re: Topic Submission Thread Mark II

I'd like to suggest an American Robot Roundup. It would be an ongoing series that would touch on American robot series and movies, both live action and animated. There's plenty of stuff out there to spotlight. Examples include:

Exo-Squad
Symbiotic Titan
Robot JOX
Megas XLR
IGPX
Beast Wars
Starship Troopers (Novel, anime, CG TV series)

Thanks

Re: Topic Submission Thread Mark II

I'd like to know the cast's opinions on the crappiest and/or complicated weapons and mecha in Gundam and other mecha shows. An example would be the Requiem superweapon from Gundam Seed Destiny.
I can't stand the weak; They're always nervous about when they'll be next attacked. They can't trust anybody and they never have an opinion of their own. I can't stand such people!

Astro Plan
(Chinese knock off of Macross)

Can find info on both these series on wikipedia.

I recently re-listened to your Escaflowne podcast and suddenly realised that you guys were aware of Rayearth (and didn't seem to hate it, surprisingly!). So I'd like to suggest: anime spotlight on Rayearth!

(PS, listener call-ins too! I'd call into that one :) )

They've had them in the past, at least two of them to my knowledge. It would be nice to have another live call in show now that I think about it (and have Skype and a headset lol).

Here's another one: best/worst representations of dictatorial governments in mecha anime.

I also have skype and headset nowadays, so a live call in show is welcome if one comes up sometime.

Re: Topic Submission Thread Mark II

Topic Suggestion.
Mobile Armors an in depth look of the numerous types of mobile armors, big or small effective or note they have their place in most universes alongside Mobile Suits.
I think it would be interesting to discuss them, because some of them have been really good and some were just one off units.

Re: Topic Submission Thread Mark II

I seem to remember you guys mentioning Five Star Stories before, but can't remember if you ever did a full in depth discussion on the FSS manga and anime works, well there really is only the one short Kadokawa movie but mostly the manga...and maybe draw comparisons and link to L-Gaim, which I know you guys have discussed in depth.

Re: Topic Submission Thread Mark II

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the new Rebuild of Evangelion movies. While the first film was pretty much a shot for shot remake of the first 6 episodes of the original series (with some minor changes), the second film has a lot more changes and also it seems the last two will have even more changes. So, there would be enough discussion about the changes made from the original series. Also, a segment on the Evangelion manga would be intresting to hear too (since Soul Bro has said he views the manga as the definitive version of Evangelion). I'm not trying to be a troll by asking this, I'm just suggesting this because I like Eva.

Another good topic would segments on all of three anime that make up the Robot Romantic Trilogy (Combattler V, Voltes V, and Tosho Diamos) which was a huge influence on the super robot genre.

Re: Topic Submission Thread Mark II

This might have been mentioned before, but any of the Gundamn crew seen KO Century Beast, aka KO Beast Sanjuushi?

Looks like a kiddie comedy anime but actually pretty good, complete with beast/elemental based combiner mech superrobot.

It started as a 3 ep OVA series followed by a 2nd 4 ep OVA series which finished the story, pretty easy to cover in a segment.
