Chapter 16/17: Lunar uprising (Space)

((Nero, your previous post is still in error. We will be ignoring that and saying that you launched on your own from a fully intact ship when Rawn gave the order.
Heretic, jump in anytime. Preferably sooner rather than later.))

The Fandom mobile suits responded to the arrival of the Grey Wolf units by spreading out and avoiding the first attack while the RF Zakus returned fire with their beam rifles, and the RF Rick Doms with their beam bazookas.

The leader in the Gelgoog responded as well by firing three shots of his own at Riku's Heavygun.

The Val Varo ignored the attack by Risa completely and simply rushed past her Heavygun, showing that the speed of the red machine was not to be underestimated as it took aim and fired at the other Salamis escorting the Ebinshire. Its beam tearing through and wiping out the superstructure of the blue cruiser. It then set a course to attack the Ebinshire itself from behind.

The Twins

Undeterred by the failure of their first attack the Twins rolled aside to easily avoid the retaliation. They then focused their next attack on only one RF Dom. Maria continued to fire at the one she had targeted earlier keeping it's attentions focused on evading the stream of fire as she closed. Soon the WildBuster let up it's attack but not a second after the WildSaber, which had passed behind the enemy and transformed, brought the Anti-ship sword down in a one handed attack at the mechs back.

Alex Smith

Smith's original target attacked a Heavygun who seemed capable of handling itself but the High speed MA seemed to go unopposed as it roared past a second Heavygun and destroyed the Bridge of a nearby Salamis.. Smith, switching his Shotgun for the, surprisingly powerful, M90 opened fire at a point in between the Ebinshire and the MA rocketing towards it.

Mai had found the fault that had been bothering her so damn much and run a quick test, to find the movement protocols working properly at last. That was it, that was the last thing to do. Her Jegan was fully operational again. Now what?

She was sitting in the cockpit munching the last of her ration bars when the Ebinshire’s klaxon started to sound.

She bolted out of the cockpit to see what was going on, only to be intercepted by the Hanger’s tech chief. He was the stereotypical “Big mechanic” with a gruff face. His name should have been Murdoch. She couldn’t remember what his name was, so she liked to think it was Murdoch, but it wasn’t.

“Mai, get into a normal suit, there should be a spare,” Said not Murdoch, “Stay here and help the support teams.”

“Got it!” She said, kicking away from a wall, which sent her sailing to the aft airlock where the normal suits were stored. With the deftness of an experienced Spacer she got into the suit quickly, engaging the magnetic boots and stomped her way over to where the Mechanic teams were prepping their equipment and directing Jegans to launch. “Mai, recovery team two is short, help them out.” the chief said. Mai nodded and headed over.

The mechanics tended to work in the same teams no matter what tasks they were assigned and Team two was always short on people, so she was familiar with the members. Being assigned to recovery was good. In the few drills they had run since she had found herself on the ship, Mai was found to have decent reaction times psychological tests after her initial rescue indicated a pension for keeping a cool head in stressful situations, as much as she (and the events that lead to her being on this ship) didn’t agree with it.

There wasn’t much to do yet with the Suits launching. Recovery teams were on standby for re-supply, quick repairs and rescuing wounded pilots from their machines if necessary. The last Jegan, save for her own, launched. Nothing to do now but wait.

She could feel the acceleration through the ship as the Ebinshire moved to combat speed, then came the first impacts, probably small missiles, rocking the hull.

*** (Skipping ahead just a bit)

The wounded Jegan slammed into the deck, sparks flew as it ground to a halt. Mai and the rest of recovery team two were quick to get the arresting wires attached, locking the machine down so it wouldn’t be tossed around inside the hanger with the ship turning the way it was. With that done, Mai and one other mechanic rushed in. Her partner was someone she knew, Jessica, a young woman of twenty, but her freckled face and red pigtails made her look younger. Mai was first to the cockpit hatch, having worked salvage was a bonus for her, she naturally avoided obstacles and potential dangers without even thinking about it.

Mai triggered the Hatch release and Jessica clambered inside to check the pilot. She returned a moment later with the pilot draped over her. Mai moved in on the pilot’s other side to help carry them out. She ship pulled another tight turn and the centrifugal force made everything heavier. Mai and Jessica hadn’t been working together, the wounded pilot would have been sent flying across the hanger to splatter against a wall.

They had gotten clear of the Jegan’s wreckage, that was when it happened. The Ebinshire was rocked violently, the acceleration was cut immediately and everything started to drift. Then an explosion, somewhere near the bow end of the hanger. The force was enough to dislodge Mai’s magnetic boots from the deck and burning shrapnel sped past.

The hanger went dark for a moment, then red emergency lights snapped on. Mai looked around, she had heard Jessica scream. There, only two meters away, drifting, there were drops of blood around Jessica. Mai managed to get her feet on the deck, then switched the magnets off and kicked. She came up beside Jessica, grabbed hold and turned her too check if she was alright. She could feel it happening again, that sinking sensation, the part of her that wanted to scream and cry falling away even as her eyes took in what was happening. Jessica’s helmet turned to show that half of the faceplate was missing, but that wasn’t what killed her, only the exit point of the shrapnel that had ripped through the helmet from behind.

Half of Jessica’s head and face were gone. The other half of her face frozen in instantaneous shock and terror.

Unfeeling fingers pushed the corps away, and Mai felt herself moving to the side of the pilot they had rescued from the wrecked Jegan only moments before. Also dead, shrapnel had ripped through his chest. Mai checked her own suit for damage, just to be sure she wasn’t in shock from some injury she wasn’t aware of. Nothing.

She looked around the Hanger, seeing only the hot glowing edges of drifting debris and motionless bodies. “Can anyone hear me?” her voice sounded distant even in her own ears as she tried the suit radio, she cycled the frequencies and repeated her call. Nothing, only the automated signal to abandon ship.

What would be the point in that though? A glob of melted metal caught her eye, she turned following its path through the hanger as it rapidly cooled form whit hot liquid to a dull red orb. As she followed it, it crossed between Mai and her Jegan. The machine came into focus, and Mai knew. She kicked off the deck, heading for her Jegan’s open cockpit. Survive, survive because part of her was crying, because of all this death and suffering. Someone had to give an answer to this, and the part of her at the forefront would be the one to do it.

Mai’s Jegan exited the wreckage of the hanger moments before the Ebinshire succumbed to it’s wounds and exploded.

Despite her cold resolve, she wasn’t going to pick any fights with trained pilots. She knew how to pilot a ship, and with some time logged in a simulator plus all the work she had done restoring her Jegan, she knew the basics of piloting an MS, but she had no combat training at all.

She located the closest federation or possibly allied ship, a Ra Caluim class. As she moved closer she noted the name Gray Wolf painted on the hull. She hailed the ship, “This is Mai Ceda Thyrad, of the Ebinshire, requesting permission to land.”

(OOC: Feel free to deny her landing clearance and attach her to some combat veterans, someone who can talk her through the battle.)

((I said to go ahead and ignore it anyway))

-Riku/Risa-

The two let the MA go and turned their attention to the Gelgoog that unwittingly earned Riku's full attention as he evaded it's attack.

"All right, take this!!!" Riku racked the beam rifle and picked out two grenades from their rack and threw them at the Gelgoog followed by the other two from the same rack. Once the grenades had gotten close enough, he shot one to trigger a chain reaction and set off the rest; a series of explosions would blind the pilot of the Monoeye suit, thus hiding Risa's attack as she used the explosion for cover to rocket in at high speed, and aim a jab with the saber at the head to try and permanently blind the unit.

-Salvation-

The ship broke ranks from the main DC fleet and took off at full speed towards what appeared to be the moon. His stealth systems turned on and its slipped from sensors as it headed for the source of the encrypted message. This message was not shared with the rest of the crew because it could be a trap and instead everyone was told that they were heading for what could be hostile forces they were to check out.

In the hangars the VF squad was being loaded with ammo as well as FAST packs for what could be a bumpy ride. Kyle was overseeing the work and preparing mentally for their return to what use to be their homeland.

-Lunar Surface-

On a closer look it appeared to be four shadows hugging the naturally rugged landscape as they approached a small Federation outpost hidden in a small crater. Four shadows seemed like a small number when compared to the larger Federation garrison but surprise was its own advantage. Hidden away and shielded from sensors were four variable fighters including two Star Mirage with their trans-atmospheric FAST packs mounted, a bomber type who seemed to be packing enough bombs to level a medium size base, and of course the lead unit... This machine was packing its own FAST pack and was ready to eliminate any enemy force they Federation threw at them.

Intell stated that the garrison was made up of older Jegan units and shouldn't be too much of a problem. The led to the small strike team's confidence that they could not only catch the enemy with its pants down but uproot the base from its crevice in the lunar surface. Quickly they approached and would be within missile range in 10 minutes.

The pilot of the RF Rick Dom was able to dodge Maria's fire, but unfortunately never had time to avoid the attack by the WildSaber and was cut in two before sparks ignited the fuel supply and destroyed the suit.

The shots from the M90 slammed into the main body of the Val Varo giving its pilot a rough ride as his mega particle cannon discharged on the Ebinshire, critically damaging, but not outright destroying it like he wanted. Had he been in a mobile suit, the rounds would have torn through and destroyed him. However the Val Varo had much thicker skin.

"You little punk, I'll show you not to mess with the likes of us!" he shouted as he brought out both claw arms and charged the Wildschwein.

The RF Gelgoog pilot was indeed momentarily blinded by the explosion, but managed to see Risa's unit at the last second and blocked her beam saber with his own.

-Riku/Risa-

"Not bad..." Risa quickly disengaged and backed off to a more favorable position; near Riku.

Risa: "Can we use that...?"
Riku: "Sure."

Risa being the close range fighter let Riku do the shooting as both fired their Vulcans at the Gelgoog as a start, before Risa charged in, since her saber was still drawn. Riku stopped firing his vulcans and drew the beam rifle before getting off a few shots to cover Risa while he boosted around then at the Gelgoog from the other side...

Once behind the unit, he spammed his beam rifle at the upper body and when Risa got close enough, unleashed a flurry of slashes at the torso where the cockpit was.

The Twins

The Twins proceede to there next target without a millisecond's pause; this time they Zeroed in on on an RF Zaku. The WildSaber still in Mech mode charged in first trying to deliver a downward diagonal cut to it's side. The WildBuster meanwhile dove 'below' the battle field and, only seconds after Mellia's Slash, fired a punishingly accurate upwards burst at the Zaku. Tracking it's movements. Mellia pulled back and readied one of her Grappling stingers to deliver another attack should the target escape Maria's barrage.

Alex Smith

Smith emptied the clip into the enemy to annoyingly find it functionally fine and charging straight at him. He threw aside the empty weapon, lacking time to reload it before the MA reached him, and grabbed the M13 Shotgun. He flew 'up' to hopefully evade the charge and fired three shells at the closing enemy.

The RF Zaku that was the Twins next chosen target did not fare much better. Avoiding the oncoming attack from Mellia was easy enough, but the blast from below cut off the left leg at the hip and left arm at the elbow.
"Augh! Damn Feddie scum!" shouted the pilot as he tried to orient his one armed and one legged machine to attack the Twins again.

Riku and Risa's plan however was thrown off as a RF Zaku came to help its leader and blocked Risa's beam saber with his own before she got close.
"That's as far as you get pal." the pilot said before pushing the Heavygun away and firing its own beam rifle at the white machine.
The RF Gelgoog leader meanwhile turned with Riku and continued to dodge the fire Riku was putting out.
"Amateurs. They've got some skill, but no experience." he said mostly to himself as he charged himself and with his beam saber slashed at the torso of Riku's Heavygun.

Alex had managed to get out of the line of fire and evade above and over his machine. The pilot dropped the three plasma leaders behind him at about where Smith was and activated them, hoping that when he came around the Federal pilot would be trapped in them.

-Riku-

He boosted over the slash from the Gelgoog, and swapped the rifle for the saber before making another boost at it and doing a spin slash at the Gelgoog.

-Risa-

"Wise guy, you screwed up our attack!" She forced the saber away and rocketed at the machine's torso, aiming to impale the RF Zaku.

The Twins

a one armed one legged mech couldn't hope to last long against just one of the Twins as such Maria moved on to the next target while mellia finished the currrent one.

Mellia began by throwing the held Grapple Stinger straight at the Zaku's chest. Then, putting on a burst of speed, she charged and swung, two handed, horizontally at the Mech's undefended left side.

Maria sighting a second of the Doms opened fire with her missiles, four of them streaked through space. and would soon be followed by a burst of beam fire.

Alex Smith

Smith did not fair as well as the twins. Though he managed to avoid running headlong into the Leader's field but it did catch his right arm as he tried to go around frying the circuits within, thankfully though, he lost nothing more than the arm. His shotgun was now useless, since it required two hands to fire, and he let it slip through the "numbed" and useless hand.

Now his only weapons were the Disc Slicer and the Beam Sword. He would have to risk close range combat to finish his foe.

-Federation Lunar Outpost-

The moment to strike was right and the first attack came as an invisible shadow swooped down into the crater seemingly invisible to early warning sensors. It quickly targeted the communications array to keep the outpost from screaming for help. The array was hit with a barrage of 22 missiles from the 2 underside FAST pack launchers.

After it swooped in the two Star Mirage came in after it targeting the anti-air weapon systems with its own barrage of missiles from their three FAST pack launchers. They were fast as they dived in like birds of prey in an attempt to open up a hole for the last of the invaders...

Which was an Invader bomber. Its five fuselage hard-points were loaded with three heavy bombs each resulting in a total of 15 warheads behind dropped on the military structure and hangars with the outposts small supply of mechs. They Invader still had 6 wing pylons loaded with medium range ground attack missiles so it still had 18 high yield missiles to use on the remaining buildings while the other three fighters tried to clean up the defenders before they could rally.

Risa would soon find that it would be impossible to impale the RF Zaku as she had no longer had a beam saber to do so, nor the right arm that was wielding it previously as the shots from the beam rifle connected with the right shoulder and blew it and the arm away. Risa would now find herself on the receiving end of the same move she tried to pull off as the RF Zaku aimed to thrust its own beam saber into her cockpit.

Riku also made an error in his attack, though it wasn't as costly as the one Risa made. The more elaborate spin move he tried allowed the squadron commander plenty of time to avoid the charge and position himself to where he was now behind Riku's Heavygun when it overshot him and had a clean opening at his back, which he took advantage of by firing two shots at the backpack of the white mobile suit.

The RF Zaku that Mellia had caught was dispatched with the swing she took, while the RF Rick Dom used its beam spray guns to shoot down the missiles, though the burst of beam fire took out the beam bazooka it was carrying. As such, it drew the beam saber and charged Maria trying to bring the ranged machine into close combat.

The Val Varo came around and found the Wildschwein without a weapon. "You're mine now." the pilot said as he charged while firing the two beam guns at the blue unit as it charged in again with its claws open trying to grab the unit.

Farther away from the action, Mai got her answer. "Permission denied. We need you to rejoin the battle." was the response from the Grey Wolf. Fortunately for Mai, a G-Cannon floated up next to her and touched her Jegan, establishing a contact link.

"You're kinda new at this aren't you?" asked the pilot. "It's okay. Real combat can scare anyone the first time. Just stay close to me and try to do what I do. Those two over there look like they need help. Try to give them some cover fire by shooting your beam rifle in the direction of the Fandom suits. Let's go." said the pilot as he slowly pulled away from Mai, expecting her to follow him.

The Twins

As the RF Dom Charged Maria switched into mech mode and forgoing the use of her Beam Gatling she drew the Twin G-Revolvers and sent four rounds in the direction of the charging enemy while trying to keep out of saber's reach. Mellia, finishing the Zaku, moved forward to aid her 'sister'; attacking from the side, she threw a second Grappling Stinger at the mech's head.

Alex Smith

Things looked very bad for the Federation Captain; he was almost unarmed and against an incredibly powerful enemy MA. He was barely able to evade the beam blasts as he and the MA closed. He knew it was risky but it seemed his only chance right now was to let it get close and strike with the saber or Disc Slicer. He chose the former for his first strike, drawing it in the left hand, he tried to stab into the grabbing claw.

The RF Rick Dom's armor was thick enough to take the rounds without critical damage, but it also drew his attention away from Mellia and the Grappling Stinger that stuck itself in the eye of the suit, blinding him for the time being. In response, he activated the scattering beam guns to try and buy himself some time to remove the Stinger and regroup with the other suits.

Joints sparked and melted as the beam saber stabbed into the claw arm of the Val Varo as it tried to clamp down on the Wildschwein. The hilt became lodged in the mechanism as the main function of the arm was rendered nonoperational.

Grunting the pilot tried to use the rest of the arm to throw Alex in front where he could grab on with the other arm.

-Riku/Risa-

As the beam rifle shots connected and removed the arm, Risa screamed, which caught Riku's attention. "Risa!" He called out before breaking out of the spinning position and rocketed out of the way of the Gelgoog's shots, though he did give the Gelgoog a parting gift before going to help Risa; his remaining grenades, which he used to try and blind it again to cover his escape by shooting them with the Vulcans on his machine.

"Hey! Leave her alone!" Riku shouted at the RF Zaku that tried to impale Risa as he shot three beams at the Monoeye while Risa boosted above the thrust and away, opting to get off the battlefield before she gets banged up any worse.

The Twins

They broke off evading the random Beam shots and leaving their blinded foe to pull back for the time being. They then focused their sights on the abandoned RF Gelgoog. Both, assuming flight mode, charged the machine Maria leading with six missiles, emptying the leg boosters and leaving eight in the main body. Maria then rolled aside and her sister fired her two remaining Grapple stingers on their wires at the Gelgoog's Chest.

Alex Smith

Things went from bad to worse for Smith he lost his saber as the now useless claw shoved him away. He had only his Disk Slicer left and activated it without a second thought; using both the shove and his own boosters he got barely close enough to aim a single swing at the main body of the Mobile armor. He was hoping against hope to hit something vital as the Val Varo's next move would likely be Smith's last.

-Federation Lunar Outpost-

The entire facility was leveled with brutal efficiency without so much as a decent response. The coordination and speed of the attack was evident of more than just a few ragtag individuals but something organized by military genius. It was almost as soon as the battle started it was over with countless casualties. The outpost wasn't very big nor was its forces large but it was still larger than its attackers. And sadly by the time this event reached Lunar City the unknown forces would have gotten safely out of immediate counter response.

The lead unit opened laser communication with its team mates. "Mission accomplished guys. The Federation will hopefully realize with this they aren't welcome here." This was their first military victory which hopefully wouldn't end here...

-Salvation-

"Sir we have picked up explosions on the lunar surface. Data shows a Federation outpost had been sitting there."

The Captain heard this coming from his radar officer and scratched his beard. He had suspicions but wouldn't say anything on it. He did give an order and that was, "Head for that crater. I wanna see who did this because we haven't detected a Fandom ship in that area... Who else could have taken down a Federation outpost so quickly?" He asked but no one had an answer for him. So they headed for the location under stealth to prevent being located by a Federation patrol. They could be labeled the enemy easily and the Captain wanted to avoid bloodshed.

Dreacon steped onto the bridge, it had been a while sence he herd anything about the warfront, having locked himself away in the hanger, toiling away with his mobile suits and the ships ample supply of MS parts.
Dreacon entered seeming to strut, at this second he was rather full of himself, a small victory though it may be, overhauling a mobile suit was neverment to be a one man job.
