Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

Today's Gundam Fight is brought to you by ESPN, the number one name in sports. Continuing their coverage of Neo America's bid to win the Gundam fight on the biggest ESPN channel is Colin Chrisworth and Jim "Pizza Roll" McGee in their protected booth at the Fire Arena.

"Hello again, everyone! I'm Colin Chrisworth, coming to you live from Neo Luxembourg's Fire Arena, and with me again is Jim McGee. Pizza Roll, we've had two good fights with Chris Anderson so far, ready for our third?"
"Sure am, Colin. Want a roasted marshmallow?"
"Uh, I'm good, Jim."
"Hot dog?"
"Wait for the commercial, but no Japanese food in honor of today's opponent, Rin Kuzunoha?"
"Not a big fan, Colin, I usually only have that competitively. Today, I'm going with things best suited to the open flames!"
"...Alright, Jim, you bring up the big element here. The arena is ringed with fire, so both fighters will have to adjust if they get close to the edge. No telling how that will play on the way these fighters go at it."
"Sure."
"Insightful as always, Jim. Alright, both fighters will be entering the arena shortly, and we'll get this Third Round action underway, live, here on ESPN!"

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

The Kitsune Gundam entered the arena to quite some fanfare. It made her feel a bit better and she allowed herself a wry smile. After last night Rin was feeling a bit frustrated at the world, her conversation with Marcus had brought up a few bad memories too. But now the reaction of the crowd, (coupled with the opportunity to beat the living daylights out of the Neo-American) helped ease some of that frustration and clear her head a bit.
After syncing to her tails, Rin unlimbered her Naginata with a little flourish and brought all her tails forwards to bear in readiness. Five of them, arrayed in a pentagon shape (one above the head, one over each of the shoulders, and one near each of the feet), pushed forward almost to the point of the extended reach of the suit's arms, the tips all facing the same direction she was. <"I am protected by the will of heaven."> she intoned and the air in front the Gundam seemed to distort slightly for a moment accompanied by a small pop as some of it was displaced, but afterward, apart from the low hum of complex working machinery, there was almost no indication that the 'Shīrudo Ten no' Beam Barrier System was active.
"Let's give them a good show." she said rather succinctly to her opponent and took stance, acknowledging Anderson respectfully as a fellow fighter. "GUNDAM FIGHT?!"

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

The Quarterback Gundam entered the arena with no real fanfare. There were fans, in stands set well away from the ring of fire, and protected by strong shields to keep that and stray fire away from them, but Chris could barely see them and couldn't hear them. There would doubtlessly be some people from Neo America there, they had been among the largest groups to come from their home country to the Finals, as usual, being loud and supportive as they always were. In the previous fights, and the various other crowds he had seen, there always seemed to be people with radios or something playing the old, but still beloved, Chargers theme song, or the Neo American national anthem.

Anderson shifted his thoughts to the fight at hand as he made it to his spot in the arena, opposite of the Neo Japanese Kitsune Gundam and it's pilot, Rin Kuzunoha. Another female fight... Anderson thought as he worked his arms in small circles, the last bit of pre-fight warm ups he'd done before hand. He vaugely wondered what the odds were of him having to fight three women in a row, as there weren't that many female Gundam fighters, and he'd only faced two in the first eleven months of the Gundam Fight, but again, shifted his thoughts back to the fight at hand. The Kitsune Gundam would be a challenge, that had been clear after watching a few minutes of films of it in action, and that beam barrier system it had could be a problem for Anderson's style, but it had flaws that Anderson could get around.

Opposite him, the Kitsune pulled its heat sword, Anderson briefly forgot the proper term for it, and arrayed several of its tails around it, pointed toward him. As he expected, they had the beam barrier emitters mounted, rather than extra weapons. Then something weird happened, the Kitsune seemed to flicker, which kicked Andersons' mind into gear. Is that the barrier? Films weren't really clear enough to tell. It may just be a heat shimmer from the fire... Crap, we'll find out soon enough. Anderson frowned to himself. He'd only noticed because he had been looking at the Kitsune Gundam. During combat, spotting the barrier going active would be nearly impossible, but the fact that the tails with the emitters had to point would at least give him some clue. He was already sweating a bit from the heat, which he wasn't nearly as bad as it got in San Diego or other NFL cities early in the season, but he wasn't close to the edge at the moment.

"Let's give them a good show." Rin said quickly, adjusting her stance. Anderson focused on the area around the Kitsune, looking to see if it had any effect on the ground of the somewhat distant fire barrier, but saw nothing. Maybe it's not on... He thought as Rin spoke the two words to show she was ready to begin, "Gundam Fight?!"

Anderson flared a pair of beam footballs to life and adjusted his own stance, twisting his shoulder so he was ready to throw before he spoke: "Go." He barked the word quietly, the kind of quick command he'd sometimes use in football, and quickly rocketed the first ball of the day right at the Kitsune, intent on testing the barrier from the start.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

The moment the 'Go' order was given Rin took off at a dead sprint right for the QB Gundam, heedless of the beam-ball heading directly for her, she wanted to close as quickly as possible and get in the 'sweet spot'.
Anderson's aim was dead on, normally such an attack would've obliterated the upper chest of the Kitsune. But today, the Beam football dissipated directly in front of the Kitsune Gundam. It seemed like it impacted against a section of solid air between the pentagonal array of tails. Ripples of energy radiated from the impact point, like the disturbance in a still pond. The ripples disappeared at the edges of the barrier, roughly showing the extent of the barrier's pentagon shaped coverage, and the tips of the tails the system was housed in glowed an off-white color, the glow fading when the ripples stopped lapping against the edges of the field.
The impact of the beam-ball on the shield didn't even slow Rin, As she entered range she brought the Flamethrowers to bear and fired them off to either side of Anderson to keep him from moving too much, and readied her polearm into a ready position with a wide grip and the blade over the shoulder.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

Just as Anderson half-expected, the ball faded away on the beam barrier, the image of its edges locking quickly in Anderson's mind. It hadn't slowed the Kitsune a hair, which fired it's flamethrowers wide, an obvious attempt to box him in that was very similar to blitzing a pair of defensive ends. The Kitsune had its pole-thingy up over its shoulder, as if it was going to throw it, but Anderson had seen that move in her fight films and knew that was not likely the case.

The flames shot a few meters to either side of Chris' shoulders, and he began to move backwards, shifting the beam ball from his left hand to the right as he did. Anderson was at full speed in two steps, and almost out ran the range of the flamethrowers, but decided to do something else. The beam barrier still in place, Anderson flicked his wrist and the beam ball came away from the right hand on arc that would go over the top edge of the beam barrier and hit the Kitsune from above unless she moved it. At the same instant, Chris loosed a quick burst from his vulcans, mainly for the sake of doing so, and leaped to his left.

The Quarterback Gundam barely made the jump over the fire, his left foot and ankle dragging through the flames, causing pain that made Anderson inhale sharply and wince slightly, but he kept his eyes open and stuck the landing, for the most part. He stumbled slightly, dragging the burning left foot, but Chris recovered easily and took off at and angle from the Kitsune. After a few steps, he spun and continued running backwards again, etting another pair of footballs flare to life as he increased his distance from Rin.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

Since the Shield tails were by no means fixed in position, Rin simply angled them up and caught the artillery styled beam ball on the barrier in a burst of energy ripples. The vulcan fire passed right through the shield unabated though and Rin took a few a few stinging rounds to her forearms as she brought them down to try and cover her head and chest. Nothing terribly distracting, but it did slow her down just enough for Anderson to have time to jump over the the flamethrowers and take off to her right. She cut the Flamethrowers almost immediately after he dove over and again took off running after the QB Gundam at top speed, his stumble making up for the light slowing. She quickly realigned the Flamethrowers and fired them again, this time directly at the backwards running QB Gundam.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

The Kitsune easily blocked the beam and quickly took off after Anderson, firing the flamethrowers directly at him. Anderson took two short steps to his left and continued to sprint, arcing slightly to his left, heading towards the center of the fire encircled arena as he increased his distance from the flamethrowers.

As he continued to move, Anderson threw his next pass. It was another arcing shot that would go high and hit from above unless the Kitsune kept it's barriers above. Chris once again had the Quarterback Gundam swap another beam ball from its left hand to the right, waiting a second, and then rocketed his fourth pass of the fight directly at the Kitsune. With the first pass being slightly slower, both would hit at almost the same instant, as Anderson continued to run, keeping half an eye on where the edge of the arena was.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

Rin wasn't one to become too reliant on the barrier, she dove and rolled slightly off to the side under both of the beam balls, which connected at about the Kitsune's chest height behind her and dissipated against each other in a brilliant flash of light.
She had to close this gap, and make this a proper fight; out here there was too much a chance of some fluke ball taking her out as Anderson probed her defenses at safe distance, she had to admit he was quite adept. Coming out of her roll she took three steps to get a running start before taking a massive thruster assisted jump towards Anderson, even turning her Flamethrowers towards the ground and rising on a pillar of flame trying to eke out just that little bit more thrust so she could close the gap quickly. Accompanied by a wordless warcry, as she came down towards the the QB Gundam, Rin gave a vicious, momentum charged, overhead downwards sweep with her Naginata intended for Anderson the moment she came down.
Meanwhile to keep such a straight-forward charge against such an opponent from being suicidal, Rin almost instinctively kept the barrier between her and her beam slinging opponent, angling and constantly adjusting it to cover her feet first descent profile, and ready to snap it up the moment she came back to level with him.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

Chris watched as the Kitsune ducked under his pair of passes, and quickly used both its thrusters and flamethrowers to bring it closer to his side of the arena. With the barrier control tail-things keeping the beam barrier between them, Rin came down on his path, swiping at him with her heat Naginata.

Anderson generated a beam ball in his right hand and skidded to a hard stop. He managed to avoid the downward attack, but lost his balance slightly and ended up with his left knee skidding into the ground. Even though the beam barrier was still between them, Anderson grunted as he rocketed a pass that actually hurt slightly, so hard did he work his arm. As his arm came foward, Chris twisted his waist and brought himself back onto both feet and starting sprinting to his right, flaring another ball to life in his left hand, which Chris instantly flipped back towards the Kitsune, hoping it would hit, but knowing at best it would just further drain the barrier. It can't last forever, right? Anderson thought as he continued running away, properly running this time, rather than a typical backwards dropback style, which allowed him to go faster still. But, Chris kept his head turned to his left so he could keep his eyes on the Neo Japanese fighter, as if he was running a bootleg or similar roll out play.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

Anderson's beams impacted against the barrier one after another, the energy ripples overlapping and as they lapped against the edges, the glow from the 5 emitters was slightly brighter than before. The Kitsune seemed otherwise unaffected, not even the American's super hard throw hampered Rin as she took off after the running Anderson, trying to steer him into the wall of flame at the edges of the arena. She quickly switched up her grip on the Naginata to her left hand and produced three of the Sutra capacitors in her right before taking another thruster assisted jump, throwing them dagger-like in a spread at the QB Gundam at the jump's apex, one directly at Anderson and the other two to either side of him. She keep herself covered by the barrier in the same manner as last time as she descended towards the QB, firing her head vulcans at his retreating back for the hell of it too.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

The Kitsune shifted its pole to the left hand and took a jump, flinging three of her Sutra things at him and popping her vulcans as well.

Anderson's mind was going full speed as he recognized the incoming weapons. Sutra flex-somethings. Remote electrical weapon. Used well against... someone, doesn't matter he thought, skidding to a stop and creating a beam in his right hand, his sharp eyes spotting the odd devices coming at him, one directly, the others wide in what he thought to be a bracketing move, but they'd go wide, particularly when he turned his body to a more proper throwing position. He waited a split second and threw another hard, powerful pass.

It was almost too powerful and overshot, but didn't. The beam clipped the top of the middle Sutra, burning through and continuning on until the beam died in the border fire on the other side of the arena. The damaged Sutra still had enough momentum to keep moving foward before it exploded from the damage, a dozen meters or so from Anderson. The other two fluttered to either side and off into the fire further behind him.

He nearly let his guard down over that small victory, but the sudden stinging vulcan fire stopped that and kept Chris in focus. Anderson winced and raised his left arm slightly, as if it was a hard rain, but just as quickly it had passed. The 60mm shots had hit up and down the Gundam, mainly in the lower torso and legs, but almost as soon as they had hit the pain was nearly gone.

The Kitsune was still coming at him. Anderson gave a quick spray of his own vulcans and starting rolling to his left this time, first towards the fire ringed edge but quickly curving back towards the more open middle of the arena, allowing him to maintain some distance from the Kitsune, another ball coming to life in the left hands' emitters.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

Rin watched her attack literally go up in smoke as she touched down. 'This fight is going nowhere and fast' she thought to herself. She threw up her arms to shield herself from Anderson's vulcans as she started after him, which proved to be about as negligibly effective as her own vulcan fire. She growled in mild discomfort at Anderson anyways.
Thinking quickly as the QB started back towards the center of the arena she quickly racked her Naginata on the move and ran on a roughly parallel track to him as she fired the closest two of her Flamethrowers ahead of Anderson in attempt to force him to stop. Coming to a stop herself and quickly spinning her body to face her opponent while holding the two active Flamethrowers in position in relation to her body she simultaneously brought the wall of fire rushing towards him and allowed the barrier to provide her maximum coverage. With her now two free hands she threw a Sutra to either side of the wall of flame where she approximated he'd be on either side of the 'wall', should he make it over like last time. To follow up, she swept her second two Flamethrowers, brought into position by her turn towards Anderson, across the entire area until the two 'walls' crossed with the other two Flamethrowers held in position in a major firestorm where they converged.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

Rin came after Anderson on a parallel course toward the middle of the fight, firing her flamethrowers ahead of him. Anderson planted his feet, stopping well short of the fire and instantly started moving backwards yet again as the Kitsune swept it's flamethrowers over the area. The flames licked at the Quarterback Gundam, catching his lower legs and barely brushing his torso, but Chris quickly back out of their range as he moved closer to the edge of the arena. He bit on the inside of his lip and snorted as he again executed the exchange of shifting the beam ball from the emitters on the left hand to those on the right.

Anderson came within a dozen meters or so of the edge as another pair of the Sutra-things flashed wide around him, crashing into the fire wall behind him. Anderson took two quick steps foward, not nearly enough to bring him to the fireball that blocked the two Gundams from seeing each other, and threw at the point between where the two Sutras had come. He released it as a classic touch pass, just between a straight laser and an arcing bomb that would come from slightly above. Anderson waited another second and starting running back to his right, staying just far enough from the firey edges of the arena to avoid more than a warm feeling on his right side, which actually brought a grin to his face.

Just like playing at home in August. Chris thought to himself. This close to the edge, it did feel home games early in the year, where the heat was always close to or in triple digits. And at least here he was only fighting one opponent, rather than having to deal with eleven all focused on his every action.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

When her sweep had finished Rin cut the Flamethrowers in the nick of time to see the beam ball missiling towards her and instinctively raised the shield to catch it. It stuck just above the middle of her barrier before she caught herself acting on instinct, cursing herself at getting a bit jumpy, since there was no reason she had to lift the barrier that high and expose her legs that much to catch a single ball, as she lowered the shield back down Rin started to sprint towards the QB on an intercept route. She fired all four Flamethowers to Anderson's left as she closed to attempt to cut off his escape back towards the center of the arena, always careful to keep the barrier between them. When she closed enough she slid into the attack, yelling "Let's go!" and turning the motion of unracking her Naginata into a single, fluid, slash upwards trying to take off his left arm.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

The Kitsune managed to block the pass yet again, and then started sprinting after him. She angled toward him, trying to get an angle to catch up, firing her flamethrowers behind him to prevent him from shifting easily that way. She managed to close quickly, and reached back to grab her Naginata.

As she brought the weapon out, Anderson adjusted his stride, sticking his right leg out further to shift him further away from the expected slash, which came a moment later. Her upward slash nicked the shoulder, passing right through the 11 painted there and leaving a small burnt gash that felt like a nasty scratch to Anderson, but gave him a chance.

With her pole weapon above him from her swing motion, Anderson turned and lept at her in one smooth motion. The beam glove flashed to life around his left hand as it came up at her left side in an uppercut-like slap, while a ball flared to life in the right hand, giving Chris plenty of options with how to deal with the Neo Japanese fighter.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

Rin's slash connected but it was too shallow, she knew it immediately, and that meant she might be in some trouble. The Naginata was a perfect weapon for her because it's reach allowed her to fight her opponents on the other side of the beam barrier, but now the QB was too close and inside her effective range. With it now nearly useless, she let go of the polearm, right as Anderson's deadly pink glove came in contact with the Shield of Heaven System's barrier. Then, probably as a shock to Anderson, the blow dampened as it crossed the threshold: it seemed to slow, and turned from a bright pink to a dull cerise as it went through, the system's tails glowing brightly as energy ripples lapped and overlapped at the edges of the barrier. Having once used her saber with the system active before, Rin knew it would feel like punching through a couple layers of saran wrap; hence why the Naginata was a heat weapon: she could use it through the barrier uninhibited where as opponents with beam melee weapons could not.
Using the slight opportunity the barrier gave her, with a flick of the wrist Rin produced a Sutra in either hand, while with her right arm she batted away Anderson's left in an extended "wax on" motion. (OOC: If any of you don get this reference go watch the 80's Karate kid, like right now) Though she burned herself as the defused beam glove (now starting to gradually regain its pink hue after crossing through the barrier) made brief contact with her forearm, with a hiss of pain she still made an attempt to apply the Sutra to his forearm in the same motion as his arm rolled off hers.
In conjunction with her "wax on" motion Rin planted her left foot forward, and attempted to administer a vicious open palm strike with her left hand to the chest of the American's Gundam, replete with an electrifying little charm to stick on him.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

Anderson expected the barrier to impede the beam glove, but not as much as it did. It felt as if he had punched a rubbery practice dummy and his hand stuck. She pushed his left arm away and managed to stick one of the Sutra things to the left forearm, but she didn't activate the weapon. The Kitsune took a step foward and tried to swipe at him with her left hand.

But her move had unbalanced the Quarterback Gundam, tipping him to his left, which Anderson used to his advantage. Anderson released the beam ball in his right hand, which fluttered away with no effect, but freeed up the empty hand as the QB Gundam fell to its left and slightly foward, under the incoming Sutra holding left hand of the Kitsune. Anderson hit the ground on his left side in an almost fetal position and grinned, as the inactive right hand had swept right through the beam barrier.

It remained inactive for less than a second. With the left hand regaining power, Chris flared the beam glove to life around the right hand and braced himself for what he had to do. He swiped his right hand at the left forearm and burned the Sutra off, which caused a minor discharge of some of its energy as well as burning away a chuck of the forearm, which felt as if it was on fire. His right hand slammed into the ground and Chris instantly pushed off and tapped the thrusters on the backpack of the QB Gundam. The two moves brought the QB Gundam up to its knees and put Anderson almost face to face with the Kitsune's torso, which is where he swept both beam encased hands, the left hand an open palm slap coming more toward the side, the right hand a fist going more toward the gut.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

Rin was going to hurt after this in more ways than one, but it was a necessary gamble. Right now it was either do this or be taken out.
Gritting her teeth Rin intercepted his left hand slap with one of the barrier tails, using its momentum to smack away the blow from her body again as the beam glove burned through the light armor and exposed the internal mechanism. The glow of all the other System Tails flickered and died instantly in conjunction with its destruction as pain from the feedback lanced up her spine.
Unfortunately, she couldn't swat the second blow away in time, and though she tried to turn and avoid the right punch at the last second, the blow to her lower torso was relatively good. Instead of punching through her as he probably intended, it instead carved a good fist sized chunk out of the front corner of her mobile suit's lower left abdomen.
She pushed away the QB with both hands, managing to holler <"Sanctify!"> the moment he was clear of her as she screamed in pain while bringing all her Flamethrowers to target and try to fry him point blank in a kind of raging, defensive instinct as her Gundam sank to its knees. Rin in the cockpit, now clutching her gut and breathing heavily, blinked tears out of her eyes, trying to deaden the pain searing in her abs and shooting up her spine; Thinking to herself as she fought to keep control of her tails through the pain that if this didn't work she was almost certainly done for.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Three: Neo America Neo Japan

Rin managed to stop his left hand, at the cost of the beam barrier system, while the right hand sliced out a chunk of the Kitsune Gundams' hip, the two attacks causing Rin to scream in pain. She reached out and pushed him in the chest to knock him away, which took him off balanced and forced Chris to reach back with his hands. He shut off the beam gloves and stumbled a few steps back, but came up standing a few meters away from the Kitsune, which fell to its knees as it fired away with the flamethrowers.

Anderson started to roll to his right, but wasn't quick enough. Splashes of fire engulfed the suit, particularly his left side as he ran, and there was a sharp stab of pain across the right side of the QB's chest. In only a few seconds he was out of the firestorm, but the results were clear. The Quarterback Gundam showed burns across the suit, the white paint on the left side of the suit having turned largely black.

Chris was breathing heavily, clearly in pain as he moved, now somewhat slower than he been before, a result of the burns hurting his left side. The beam emitters on the left hand had been throroughly overloaded by the heat of the flamethrowers and would take minutes to cool down, a lifetime in a fight such as this. Another warning told him the vulcans wouldn't work, not that Chris would use the largely ineffective weapons. It was then he felt and noticed the burned Sutra-thing on his chest, which had ruined the vulcan on the side, but the flamethrowers had wrecked it before she could fire it, causing only the fairly minor discharge. But more important than all of that, the beam emitters on the right hand were up, which was enough for him. Anderson gasped out a command. "Drill."

The Two Minute Drill counter appeared in the corner of the cockpit screens, and while it sped up the cooling of the left hand, it would still take more than a minute to be ready, but Chris hoped he wouldn't need it. As he was still running, Anderson first swatted the Sutra off his chest with his left hand, which fell away easily as most of its adhesive had been burned off by the flamethrowers and generated a beam ball in the operational right hand and rocketed it at the kneeling Kitsune. He followed it up with another barely a second later. Chris started towards the Kitsune at a jog, and almost as an after thought, powered up his heat facemask, having largely forgetten that weapon up to this point, but not knowing how much the Kitsune had left for this fight.
