4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

Schlotiem Guillaume proudly stood on his hover float with his Notremeister gundam towering over him walking behind him. The young prince smiled enthusiastically as he waved at his country men and the tourists who had come to the opening ceremonies. He was an elegant man wearing a royal military uniform that looked like it was designed in the 1800s.

It had been a difficult four years for everyone but this age was soon to come to an end. The country of Neo Luxembourg was proud to host this years gundam fight and had arranged a giant parade that was close to wrapping up very soon.

Guillaume could spot the end of the route in front of him. The Luxembourg military was present as the three Blacktristar units were stationed right by the town square which was devoid of pedestrians. There the Gundam fighters would leave their floats and their Gundams behind and take a short limo ride to the Luxembourg palace for the inaugural banquet.

Schlotiem continued to gracefully wave at the crowd even as his arm grew numb from the cool winter winds.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

"VAS?" Dieter bellowed, frowning as he cupped a hand over his ear in a vain attempt to hear over the ecstatic noise of the crowd choking the streets all around him. The poor reporter from some third-rate news agency tried again to shout a question at the Neo German fighter, but it was all drowned out by the happy sounds of celebration. The mass of people surged forward and the reporter was carried away with the current of people headed for the large town square where Dieter was supposed to make an appearance.

A neat display of all the finalists' Gundams in the square was visible from several blocks away, and the throng filled the streets for at least a square mile. A grand parade was underway on the main thoroughfare, and music boomed over the roar of the crowds making it even harder to hear anything.

The girl at Dieter's side had to practically scream in his ear to get his attention. "Monsieur Dieter!" she cheeped breathily, eyes squeezed shut and hands balled at her sides as she yelled powerfully, "You are supposed to be at ze Gundam to meet ze people, no?". "Eh," Meyers huffed, waving off the notion lazily as he rudely plowed through a wall of merrymakers to get them closer to the square.

"Herr Meyers! Herr Meyers!" another annoying reporter cried out, waving a microphone in his face as he tried to corner the fighter for an interview, "Do you think you can go undefeated in the finals? Your last fight with Neo Mexico was pretty embarrassing even for a win, wouldn't you say so?". The reporter's cameraman elbowed his way forward to get Meyers on camera. Dieter scowled at the man and was trying to decide whether to reply with foul language or fists when another familiar din rose out of the crowd behind them.

"PAPA! PAPA!" a chorus of children of various ages cried out, all of them blonde haired and blue eyed in a strangely similar way despite their varying skin tones. A few angry women seemed to herd the gaggle closer, causing Dieter to mutter curses and shove his way past the newsman. "No comment! No comment! I do not know this children!" he yelled over his shoulder, trying to pull Cerise through the crowd to escape them.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

It was an odd mixture of familiar and different for Chris Anderson. It wasn't the first parade through a city for him, but the previous five times it had followed the same route through downtown San Diego after a Super Bowl. This one was something else, simply getting to the Finals, which struck Anderson as odd. Nobody got a parade for just making the playoffs, although he could think of a few teams back in Neo America who might seriously consider that.

Chris stood near the front of Neo America's float, which was near the rear of the line. The Quarterback Gundam stood in the middle, with the other five members of the Neo America Team moving about the float. The people seemed friendly enough, and Anderson kept a smile on his face as he waved, as did everyone else, even though they were all exhausted. The Neo America team had been one of the last to arrive in Luxembourg, partly because Anderson had wanted to get in one more game with the Chargers, which the NFL had made a Monday Night game, of course. It had been a good one, a 44-6 stomping of a good Chicago Bears team, and even though Anderson had been pulled in the 4th quarter, it had still made the following days rushed for everyone. Anderson was well aware the entire Neo America team had to do a press conference, mainly for the Neo America media, and because it was a chance for the sponsors to be seen. There was also talk of some banquet or a dinner or something, the details hadn't been told to Chris yet, and it was too loud for the team members to really talk on the float. But none of them really wanted to. It was nice to simply smile and wave for a bit. They all knew the upcoming few weeks would be pretty rough.

Sitting on the foot of the Hibidyia Gundam Kydan watched the crowds flock around the finalist. And while the other fighters had fan fare and people wanting their autographs he had neither of those. People did not like his combat style because he lacked the popularity in his fighting style. He also wasn't a dashing hero nor a celebrity like many of his opponents... He was a hardened dirty fighter from a small country in the middle east. He had though inspired his nation by defeating Neo Iraq's fighter last round with a well placed beam shot through the machine's skull.

Looking out at the world he was in he felt proud of his heritage and how far he had come. Who would have thought the new nation of Neo Kurdistan would have made it to the finals like this?

"Guess I should be happy. This could be our ticket to being a nation by ending the constant warfare." Thinking he rested his head against his beloved Gundam's leg and wished that the next rounds would go as well as his last.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

Marcus Caligulas was rather pleased with his procession. It was times like these he was glad his father could never be bothered to make public appearances. That old bastard would never approve of this, he thought. The crew of his float freely threw fine candies and such out to the crowd. Marcus never missed even the lowliest camera, and smiled for every picture. He waved to the crowd, and signed autographs for anyone who wanted it. He even, to what would be his father's dismay, wrote some checks for some of the poorer families who came to see him. At some points, he even walked alongside the float, much to his bodyguard Reaper's frustration.

Reaper himself was piloting the Gundam and keeping it walking. Caligulas forbid him from appearing in public view, given how he refused to remove his helmet, let alone his power armor. Reaper was just odd like that. He had been worried that his father's goons would ruin his image as an honest man and a philanthropist. But luckily, they all agreed to help, some operating the float, some throwing candy, and some even playing instruments. In fact, none voiced objections to him using his father's narcotics factories near the Sicily landing zone for "practice." In all of his "tests" the Legion Gundam did more than expected. He had done a wonderful job of both getting ready for the fights and clearing up the countryside of those damned drug labs.

I don't care if I win or lose. I carry the honor of my country and my family on my back. I only need to redeem the family name and prove that Neo Italy is a nation to be respected.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

Allison Cheslock gazed at the crowd with a look just shy of boredom as she lounged on the front of the float rather than stand like other fighters, the parade had dragged on for far too long for her liking and luxembourg's security wouldn't even let her ride her bike alongside the float, but her brother had told her to just grit her teeth and bear with it, so she did, not wanting to disappoint him.

out of the corner of her eye she saw a nosey photographer trying to get close to the float, she was tempted to throw something at him but the float had kept entirely clear of any blunt object that could be used as a projectile, fortunately she saw that the parade was reaching the town square where the gundams would be put on display while the fighters went to some banquet while the sponsors did their public relations routine 'about bloody time' she thought to herself and she stood up and began stretching

though she hated things like banquets and formal dinners, allison couln't help but shiver in anticipation, it would be the best opportunity to size up her opponents, and see if any of them would provide a challenge

Li-Zhang Ma stood next to the right of his Gundam's head with his arms folded as he gazed coolly at the crowd and the procession. He didn't care much for the festivities nor for the public appearance, but the Neo China officials insisted on it. The flaps of his changshan swayed with every step Guan Yu Gundam took, as it moved via autopilot with the rest of the parade. The float was about 10 meters ahead of the Gundam, where his official 'crew' stood/sat and waved. There was also a small crew performing a Dragon Dance, by hoisting a bright red and gold cloth dragon and moving around on top of the confines of the float.

The journey up to this point was varied. A number of competitors provided no real challenge as he quickly dominated them with his mixed kung fu styles. But when he faced off against several Gundam Fight veterans, then things picked up and he fought and struggled against his opponents. Of course, he managed to prevail and he took satisfaction with those battles. He gave his respect where it was due and was accepted (usually) by the defeated. He had so-called 'advisors' to help him with each battle, but they were more of a nuisance than useful assets. It was more efficient to examine the base specifications before facing them in battle, as he could work to get a feel for his opponent's fighting styles.

But now, things have accumulated to this point, to the finals where the best of the best of this Fight would go head-to-head. Li's lips twitched as he grinned ever so slightly as the parade approached the town square...

With such a jovial atmosphere surrounding Samiir Rana, he desperately wanted to set up his hookah, start smoking, and wow the audience with his smoke patterns. He was in the middle of a lively parade but with the eyes of his father on him, somewhere in the crowd, he knew he had to maintain a soldier's composure. He could almost feel his father's short-lived pride through the crowd and the never-satisfied expectations of his family back home through every camera's lens.

His younger sister, Fatima, was not so restrained. While Samiir stood on the Supahi Gundam's shoulder in formal military attire, saluting under a banner reading "Neo Pakistan Zindabad (Long Live Neo Pakistan)," Fatima was running from one corner of the float to the other waving to the crowd and blowing kisses... and in the process almost knocking off all the honored soldiers the homeland had sent to stand in the parade. Samiir wished he could be like her.

Looking at the crowd, he couldn't help but marvel at how far his country had come. Neo Pakistan had always been an underdog in whatever it did. Too powerful to be counted out but never powerful enough to win, overshadowed by the other nations of the Neo Asian block, and always preoccupied with catching up with the world. After all the qualifying rounds in this competition and throughout history, this was the chance for his country to prove it self. Really though, this was his chance to prove himself to his family.

Samiir sighed as covertly has he could. At the moment, he really just wanted to get out of uniform and burst out some strawberry shisha. Hopefully the after-party will be nice, he thought, insha'allah (god willing).

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

There were no recorded audio for the Russian entry. Rather the Red Army Choir's baritone droned over the roar of the crowd a rousing rendition of "The Red Army is the Strongest" with a backing band on the float. The centerpiece, the Buran Gundam trudged along behind it; it's white and grey paint scheme gleaming in the winter sun. The Red star on the shoulders and red V antenna drew the most of the spartan accents on the suit.

It's pilot, Ivor Chanukovich sat on the open hatch gangway, one leg dangling the other drawn up to his chest as his right arm rested on his knee. He was dressed in a full officer dress uniform of Neo Russia, cigarette dangling from his mouth with a whisp of smoke disappearing into the paint scheme of the suit. At the feet of the behemoth fighter were a full compliment of May Day parade troops, the clap of boots all sounding in unison as the soldiers looked off to their rights, Kalashnikovs held abreast.

The display was designed not only to show the might of the Neo Russian entry and it's backing country, but to also represent one of the most hallowed parade events in the country with a small piece transplanted directly from the Red Square to Luxembourg.

However, Ivor could only stare coldly at the Gundams and their host country's floats as they made their way through the city streets. A beep from his breast pocket caused him to produce a small touch screen device which when activated showed the face of a male Neo Russian officer.

Ivor greeted the man's call with a flat "Da?"

"Американские входы и китайские входы приезжали как имеет немецкий вход. Положите дальше хорошую выставку для их, Ivor. Мы должны сделать ими чывство удобной. Понято?"

Ivor scoffed at the almost chastising nature of the 'Commandant's' words. He simply shrug it off with another flat "Da." before hanging up on him. Like the Chinese fighter, Ivor did feel somewhat constrained by the bureaucracy surrounding his entry into the fight. Such was the way of appeasing those handlers of the 'Peoples Fighter'.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

Neo Canada's Gundam fighter and their float was right behind Neo Pakistans. With a bit of ingenuity the neo canadians had built their float into a small ice rink. It felt all too natural to David as he skated rather elegantly for a man in full goalie equipment around the ice waving lazily occasionally posing for the camera.

Under his goalie mask Stedmore was sporting a pair of black eyes and missing a good portion of his teeth. To think he was still fighting as of recently as yesterday was a harsh reality that he had to face. The engineers had did a good job at putting the netminder gundam back together but Dave was still in mildly rough shape. This wasn't his first concussion though, and it probably wouldn't be his last.

Skating to his net Stedmore grabbed his water bottle and hydrated himself and took a momentary break. He had played in high pressure games before, but never something as important as this....

--Nyman--

The next float followed the Neo Canadian. The intro riff of the song started playing, and then the music is drowned out by the horde of Neo-Filipinos who has followed their guy religiously. Neo-Philippines literally stops in their tracks just to see Nyman Rice...everyone, from kids to adults to murderes---you name it. Nyman's pretty close to having 100% popularity in his own country alone; no other Gundam fighter can claim such popularity.

Nyman, for his part, doesn't seem to have a killer instinct look, as he smiles with his perfect Asian-American mug and waves to his legion of fans. His parade session also seems to have more beefed up security as the roadside crowd gets a bit too rowdy. He appreciates the crowds, though he'd rather be training, as he hasn't had a fight in a year with all his Gundam Fighter work. But, he also understands the importance of putting on a show for his fans.

Raphael Etan stood on the Maccabee Gundams' open cockpit hatch mechanically waving to the crowd as Neo Israels' float went down the parade route. Raphael wore his dress uniform and his eyes were hidden behind aviator sunglasses. On the float itself memebers of his countries team threw chocolate coins while a Klezmer band played and others danced. Raphael didn't much care for the parade as he saw it as being unnecessary when everyone was focused on the gundam fights themselves. He beveled that only through the gundam fights could the various countries display their power. Above all else Raphael regarded the gundam fight as a way to prove his mettle to everyone, especially himself.

Neo India's fanfare echoes out, to a crowd of old and new fans alike. The Rajput Gundam stands proudly brought in on a floating platform behind the rest, covered in a pure white, silk cloak with its arms crossed over its chest. Talik himself stands on one of the shoulders standing just like his mobile fighter.

Talik reaches up to twist his mustache in contemplation, observing the other fighters with a nod of approval to himself and the others. He holds up a open hand for the section of Neo India as he passes them, showered in white streamers and confetti. He clenches his fist in a victory motion and then goes back to his stern look.

As the previous fighter finished and his fanfare eneded the Neo England's fanfare began to blair throughout. Kneeling on it's float was the mighty Knict Gundam wearing it's full plate armor with all it's weapons sheathed and shield resting on the left arm.

Standing atop the gundam's right shoulder was Neo England's gundam fighter, Karl Franz the III. Formal mantle and hat were laid overtop his fight suit, which proudly showed off nation's colors. Fans of Neo England and it's Knight cheered aloud.

Smiling Franz raised his hand snapping his fingers. In response his gundam stood upon it's float and drew it's spatha sword and raised it in salute. This got a great cheer from the crowd, even from a good number of those not from Neo England.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

~Music~

Following the precession of the great nation of Neo England, the more humble precession of Neo Ryūkyūs begins with a popular singer's rendition of the national anthem. The nation's float and the Shisa Gundam it carries forward are surrounded by young school girls performing the national dance, illustrating the history of the old Ryūkyū Kingdom since the 15th century. The dance is expressive, especially with complementary images projected onto a screen, but clearly amateur.

Sitting in a teak lawn chair on the head of the Gundam, with her leg's crossed and a obviously bored expression on her face, Neo Ryūkyūs' fighter, Makii Kuninaka, looks down at the procession. She frowns slightly thinking about how Neo Ryūkyūs never matches up to the nations to looks up to. More importantly, she thinks with a hint of anger in her eyes, this is the best that those jerks could muster up for her!

The girls continue their dance full of energy, this being one of the proudest days of their young lives... even if most of the audience have never heard of Neo Ryūkyūs till now. The small number of Neo Ryūkyūans in the crowd cheer loudly, though their is a hint of worry and reserve. Makii knows they are not cheering for her and many are concerned about her participation. She is a criminal after all. Come to think of it, Makii is concerned too. Looking at the tracking bracelet on her ankle, she remembers that her handlers never told her if she had to win to gain her freedom or just participate.

Regardless, Makii was looking forward to all the fun she was going to have.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

Neo Japan's float was done up much like a traditional, albeit 3D, ukiyo-e painting. Rin Kuzunoha found the whole thing to be a little over the top, especially the taiko drummers, but she was having fun. She sat atop a rendition of Mt. Fuji near the back of the float, sipping green tea to help ward off the cold and waving warmly at the cheering crowd. She was currently attired in a lovely furisode kimono with long sleeves and colorful patterns that simply flattered her. Her long hime cut, now drawn up and styled, was held by a single pink lotus. The (Neo) Japanese nationals and fans cheered for their warrior idol and Rin was happy to oblige them with smiles and waves while keeping a weathered eye out for any bars that looked like good places to drink and mingle. Rin's team smiled and waved too while the taiko ensemble hammered away merrily, their drums speaking of raw power and touching something primal in the hearts of the crowd.
Behind her came Neo Japan's Gundam who's appearance was part why she had so many international fans, it was every bit as beautiful as its pilot and just as deadly. Kitsune Gundam was distinctively feminine in form, with nine tails that each held weapons in the tips and all flowed gracefully out behind the machine, a deadly combination of both form and function.
Neo Japan followed it breakaway state, the crowd much larger for Rin and the team and she had something a little flasher in mind for them than just the taiko ensemble, even as good as they were. She punched a button on a smart phone just on the inside of her other sleeve, and behind her, moments later two of the tails lifted up to the Gundam's shoulders pointing towards the sky before erupting thin jets of flame which elicited an even greater cheer from the mass of fans.

Re: 4GFFG: Round Zero-Fanfare

Dieter and Cerise finally escaped his pursuers and popped out of the edge of the parade route crowd just as the Dieter-less Neo German float was coming up behind Neo Japan's. The Effizienz stood rigidly in the middle of a white float contrasting the dark, flat black paint of the Gundam. Decorated by flags and Volkswagen logos along the sides, the only feature on the minimalist float were four men in black leotards robotically dancing to some strange electronic music.

"HEY!" a voice angrily reacted to his presence - Aiko, his head mechanic, jabbed a finger into his ribs. She had been standing in the crowd to watch both Neo Japan’s and Neo Germany's entrance. "You're supposed to be up there!" she admonished him, pointing up to the Gundam's shoulder, "The team coordinators were going crazy when they couldn't find you earlier,". "Eh," Dieter grunted a non-response. He did a few quick stretches and cracked his neck before moving Cerise gently out of his way, closer to Aiko. "Stay here," he said as he shot off like a flash.

Bursting out of the crowd he sprinted to his passing float and 'hopped' a good six feet up the side to where the men were dancing, up to his Gundam's knee, to a spot jutting out on the chest and finally to the shoulder in a matter of two or three seconds.

"Where were you two?" Aiko asked, glancing away from the spectacle. Cerise flushed a deep crimson and said, "We, uh... Dieter wanted a drink before ze parade so we were finding a pub that wasn't full...".

Kelvin McCleod gazed out over the parade route as the Neo Scotland float trundled towards the end point where all the Gundam Fighters would meet. The float was done up in all the regalia of Scottish pride and band of fifty bagpipers marched in front of the float. The Highlander Gundam, marched proudly behind the float, Kelvin's chief technician, Dahlia Connery, operating and making sure it didn't do anything it wasn't supposed to do.He was eagerly anticipating the dinner where all the Gundam Fighters would get to meet. It would be a chance to mingle, get to know some of the fighters, drink a few pints and just generally party. And you could always get a sense of the other fighter's attitudes at these sorts of things and that was the most important thing of all.

The Tristar unit managed to get everyone out of the town square which made Schlotiem feel a bit relieved as he stepped off the float. Waiting for the gundam fighters was a well organized motorpool. Sure it was organized, but there was all kinds of goofy stereotypical vehicles. The ride to the banquet hall was pretty quick and none of the vehicles mentioned before were really important or really worth mentioning. So let's all go to the next paragraph.

The Guillaume family's castle (Castle Guillaume to be exact) was quite the throwback. Even if it was a rather new building it's design emulated the castles of old, or how they were portrayed in the movies. In what was surely a relief for some fighters and quite the pain in rear for the others. It didn't matter much to either group though because they were both sat down to one of the grandest meals they would ever eat.

Food was delivered from the colonies themselves for this banquet. The chefs at castle Guillaume spared no expense catering to each of the gundam fighter's countries dishes.

Schlotiem was rather quite and sat at the head of the table, he was polite when addressed, but the man just didn't seem to be into the event.

As Marcus walked into the castle, he heard a familiar clunking sound behind him. He could deduce from the look of everyone else who was following him. He turned around to confront the metal monstrosity behind him. "Reaper, wait in the car."

"But sir, we were unable to gain surveillance of the kitchen, and there is no way of knowing how your food was prepa-"

"Why the hell," Marcus interrupted, "would you try to spy on the chefs?"

"Sir, your father always demands to know if the individuals who handle his food are going to poison or otherwise defile it. I would assume you wanted the same kind of pro-" Marcus interrupted him again, this time by reaching up and grabbing the 7' death machine by the throat and yanking him to eye level.

He whispered harshly, "I thought I made it clear to you: Don't you ever, EVER assume I want what that old, fat bastard that spawned me wants. I am not some small-minded megalomaniac tyrant. so don't treat me like one."

"Yes sir." Reaper plodded back off to the car, turning to face Marcus one last time. "Sir, I am genuinely concerned for your safety. I was unable to carry my primary firearm with me into the motorpool. I was forced to carry my backup weapon as a result. Be careful sir."

"Reaper, I'm glad you care, honestly. But honestly, I don't think you need an anti-tank rifle to protect me. Your ordinary rifle will do just fine. But stick with the crew."

"Yes sir." Reaper got in the car, and stared his heavy duty full-auto assault rifle, obviously wishing it was a bigger gun.

Realizing that everyone else went into the castle while he was arguing, Marcus quickly rushed in. Missing dinner was almost as bad as losing a fight. Catching up to the others, Marcus quickly sat down. He seemed to be fine, the food was still hot, and looked tasty. "Sorry I'm late," he announced, "just a little trouble with my entourage." He then proceeded to gorge himself on every article of food imaginable.
