TARRRPG Chapter 11: Hong Kong Blues (Earth)

It was after dark when the Ceres pulled into the harbor and took an empty slot reserved for large ships. The first order of business was to transfer the survivors from the infirmary to a local hospital as the on board facilities could only do so much for them.

Down in the captain's quarters, Ryker was making out a schedule for letting the crew have shore leave in town while they waited for the next mission. It would be a good way to allow the pilots and crew to get their minds off the recent failure for a while and clear their heads before deploying again.

((The "schedule" is an in game explanation for allowing the characters to go into the city. You can have them leave the ship at any time, but make note that it is the next day as it's night when the Ceres arrived.))

Wraith

It had been three days since the Ceres had left DC HQ. Unseen on approach the 008L sat in a deserted part of the island under the shroud of Mirage Colloid.

Wraith was already inside; even without a personal Mirage Colloid he was able to slip many places unseen being lite of foot and careful had it's advantages. According to everything the Fandom knew Bian Zoldark would be near the center of the base which was where Wraith was headed, quiet and unnoticed. He peaked around a corner, his objective was deliciously close now but there was a problem. After Masamune's attack the guard around Bian had been increased greatly, Wraith had now checked every possible avenue and each was too well defended to enter unseen.

Wraith would have preferred to do things differently but now he had no choice. He reached to his waist and unclipped a small canister, one of eight, then rolled it into the corridor. It quickly caught a guard's eye and the man jumped back and pointed his gun at the object. it rolled slowly to a stop and for a second sat inert then with a loud hiss thick, pinkish gas began to spew forth.

Alex Bloke

Alex had again been called by Apollo who was very excited about something. They met in the same dock where the still unnamed and unarmed ship was. But this time work crews were swarming about the outside of the ship and nearby was the remains of the now cannibalized Gawain.

"Tanks For Comin' I finally figured what ta do wit dis ding." With that Apollo began to describe the new systems for the new ship. In his list were the addition of the Gawain's Hadron Cannons and Druid System; the latter would control a new shield system. In addition Apollo had began installing a larger version of the PS system now attached to Alex's own Huckebein.

Wraith

The gas that spewed forth served 2 purposes first it was a smoke screen which made it easier to approach dangers and second it was a simple nerve gas, not deadly but it could paralyze many major muscles in the Arms and legs.

The first victims had only enough time to fire off a few shots at the now advancing Wraith before they were cut down by the humming blade. The shots were heard in a nearby corridor and a guard promptly hit the alarm.

Alex Bloke

as Apollo moved on to discribing the new shield system an Alarm began to blare.

"INTRUDER ALERT INTRUDER IN CENTRAL BLOCK"

Alex wasted no time in dashing off towards Bian''s office...

-Lounge-

As soon as Wraith entered the base Kylern was gripped in pain as an electrical current surged through his entire body. Natalia noticed her partner start to scream and grabbed ahold of his shoulders and shook him hard.

"What the hell is wrong with you!" But as Kylern turned and stared at her she noticed his eyes glaze over and turn a bright red. Beads of sweat poured down the guys face as he started to pant. "What on Earth?"

"He's here..." Something had sparked in him and images flashed in his mind of a figure in black with a vibrosword. He could feel desperation and the need to survive... He also started to sense a change in the air. Then before he could say something else the alarms went off letting everyone know an intruder was in the base.

Natalia's eyes grew wide as she remembered Kylern talking about someone coming to kill Bian... "Omg... someone's after Doctor Bian..." She was up from the chair and so was Kylern. And with that both of them took off towards the good doctor's office with guns in hand. Kylern though knew this opponent wasn't carrying a normal weapon and these guys wouldn't pierce the body armor. After all Kyle's assault rifle had done no damage either... But for now there was no time to grab something else so the 45cal pistols would have to do.

-Kirie-

Kirie Morgan sighed as he looked out the window of the Ceres lounge and at the Hong Kong skyline looming outside. This time, the lounge was clear, and Kirie was alone; During the whole way Emily had taken to sulking and, in a sullen mood, did not resume her martial arts lessons with Kirie. Kirie understood and didn't press the matter, and since then Emily had spent most of her time in her room, sulking by herself.

As he glanced outside, his eyes trailed over to the large, mostly rural area behind Kowloon, to the north --- the New Territories. Kirie bit his lip, suddenly assaulted with a flood of memories; How many times had Kirie paced through those grassy mountains, training in the fresh air and underneath blue skies? After being brought over through the Portal, Kirie was sent there for intensive martial arts training for a few months before returning to Japan as the Musha Gundam's pilot. Indeed, Kirie sighed, he was very familiar with much of that area during his time there.

Maybe she still lives there.

Then, as Kirie thought about looking for her again, seeking her for advice, he hesitated; What would she think of Kirie now if he did? She would ask him a question, as she always did after his training was complete; Kirie would not have an answer for her, and she would always dismiss him. Even now, Kirie still didn't have it. Why did the Shuffle Alliance break up and vanish?

...Some King of Hearts I'm turning out to be.

Clenching his fists, Kirie turned around, looked back one more time at the skyline outside, and walked out of the bridge; Moments later, without much in the way of goodbyes --- with his luck, Kirie wouldn't be long either way --- Kirie walked out of the Ceres' airlocks and, alone, sauntered further into Kowloon, and towards the New Territories which Kirie once loved so much.

-Ceres-

Three hours after the Ceres landed, a white envelope was promptly delivered by the DHL Priority Delivery Service --- the local package delivery company in Kowloon --- via standard 'snail mail' into the ship's mailroom. A sweep by the mailroom staff would reveal no traps whatsoever, and that the letter was clean, despite bearing mostly Federation insignias; there was nothing of harm whatsoever. If the mailroom staff opened the envelope, they would find a single disk, enough for only a single e-mail, along with what seemed like two Exhibition Tickets for an event tomorrow at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The envelope was otherwise addressed simply to one 'Ensign Emily Stormgunner'.

'Central Block? where the heck is that?'

"LIBRARY!!"

Wraith

Wraith had cut though several groups of guards using another gas canister in the process. there were only two guards left. They were crouched their rifles aimed at the corner around which some pinkish smoke was creeping. Suddenly a loud humming came from the corridor to their side Wraith dispatched the first before he could fire a shot and charged the second using the first as a shield.

his goal was just ahead; Wraith quickly threw another two canisters blocking the only two remaining corridors which help could come through. Now it was a matter of distance. He stepped towards his goal now sure of his victory but then, from the left, where he had just tossed a canister a shape burst from the smoke.

Alex Bloke

Alex being a cyborg was unaffected by the gas and ran straight through it. As soon as he cleared it he saw the intruder; a man in Ebony armor and cloak carrying a humming blade soaked with blood. Alex jumped, and extending his own blade, thrust at the Wraith's chest.

Wraith dodged by hopping backwards letting Alex land before striking at the extended arm. Alex reacted and parried with his own blade; the two edges repulsed each other as the both vibrated against each other.

Alex placed himself in between Wraith and his goal.

-Hellbore-

Hellbore had been in his room researching the current landscape of the world on his personal computer. It seemed Hong Kong was a relatively neutral city in the otherwise divided world. He browsed some images taken from satellites and other sources but saw nothing that interested him. He decided to take a shower, then maybe have a long nap.

(If anyone wants some company when going outside, I'm free for that)

-Sara-

Sara was in the lounge as the Ceres came in over Hong Kong. She had been unable to sleep since the massacre of the rebels a day before. thoughts of Jacob didn't help her at all. He sighed deeply and laid back on the couch watching the Ceres land in Hong Kong's port.

-Jacob-

Jacob was woken by a blaring alarm which was quickly shut off. "Don't worry, your completely safe here," said a voice. Jacob looked around and saw a woman with glasses peering down at him. He tried to sit up but found himself to weak to lift his head.
"My name is Dr. Hakase. Don't try to move you're still weak from the sedative. Anyway you don't need to move to hear what I'm going to tell you." She paused before continuing on. "Dr. Sara Klein is currently serving aboard the Divine Crusader warship Ceres as a combat pilot. She joined the Divine Crusaders about three day ago." Hakase looked pointedly at Jacob. "She joined because of you. To protect you. Anyway, we are currently refurbishing the Cerberus using the Ignite part whose data we received from the late Dr. Mishima, who lost his life giving us this data." She smiled sweetly. "I have been authorised to make you an offer. We will give you an interim suit and transportation the the Ceres in Hong Kong, if you agree to pilot the completed Cereberus Ignite for the Divine Crusaders, until our goals are met. I'll let you think on that." Just as abruptly as she had begun speaking, Hakase got up and left the small room. This allowed Jacob the see just how small she was.
Jacobs head spun with all the new information dumped on him. His head was still fuzzy from the drugs and he didn't think he would remember all of this. However, his addled mind focused on some important points. Sara. Ceberus. Hong Kong.

Wraith

Wraith and the 'man' clashed. It was clear whoever this was was not a normal human; he had been immune to the gas and was Wraith's equal in strength. Wraith might have been smiling below the helmet, if such a creature could smile. This was to be a treat.

Wraith Struck again this time with a fast horizontal strike. Alex again blocked with his blade arm and the two blades repulsed each other.

Alex Bloke

Alex Again thrust his Blade arm at Wraith after parring a third slash. Wraith was forced to leap left to dodge and Alex immediately changed to a slash which Wraith parried. The CX-series had put his mind and it's processing power to work calculating move after move for himself and his opponent.

Wraith

The two combatants continued to fight with deadly speed and power; the sound of humming blades and clashing metal sounded again and again. Wraith had noticed something odd about his opponent, The 'man' fought with great skill but his movements were stiff and robotic like he lacked a warrior's spirit. Wraith's glee at the challenge vanished, he realized he would win. Wraith made a quick overhead feint which Alex moved to parry then changed mid swing to a sideways slash. Alex, who had been acting under the assumption that each of Wraith's strikes would be killing ones, was not ready for the feint and Wraith's blade slipped past his defenses.

???

He had made it to the area marked on the map and before him a cloud of pink smoke behind that came a dull humming and the sounds of metal clashing. He had no idea if the gas was dangerous but he had no time to dwell on that. Reaching behind his shoulder he griped the gold hilt of a crystalline blue blade and charged.

On the other side of the smoke two combatants were dueling with blades; The one in black was clearly the Intruder. The new fighter in his black and gold armor charged Wraith.

"WILL EDGE!!!"

The new fighter drew and struck with the large broadsword.

Wraith

The Cry came from behind just in time for Wraith to leap aside as the blue blade rent the air where he had been. This new foe and the other one might be too much. Wraith needed a measure of the new foe. THe foe hefted his blade again and charged him yelling

"WILL EDGE!!!

Wraith parried but the strength of the blow was surprising; he was forced back as the blades met. While the attack itself lacked skill and fineness Wraith knew he couldn't best both of these opponents at once. He lept back into the smoke and disappeared.

Alex

Alex looked up at the one wearing black and gold armor.

"So you have awakened?"

"yes and what a rude awakening it was. We need to chase him down but I'm afraid I don't know the base very well."

Alex considered this before responding.

"Stay here, he may return if we both leave; I'll hunt him down."

Alex quickly followed Wraith through the now dissipating smoke.

-DC Duo-

The sound of fighting could be heard coming from down the hall as the two started to make their way towards it. Quickly though Kylern had accessed the security camera's using his mobile terminal and could see the battle through his visor. He watched Alex fight with Wraith until a new 'thing' arrived on the scene to chase Wraith away.

Too bad for Wraith but he chose the wrong hallway to escape into as Kylern stopped and raised his gun just as Wraith entered his line of sight. Natalia wouldn't know that the person sent to kill Bian would show up in their area but her own quick reflexes followed Kylern actions. Wraith could easily duck into a side hall to avoid being shot but even this killer wouldn't expect someone like Kylern because he couldn't sense the pilot of the TEMJIN.

No words no warning just a cold intent to stop the intruder as he fired three shots at the legs of Wraith. He knew his bullets wouldn't penatrate the torso armor due to Kyle's failure but he hoped a nice slug in the leg would slow this guy down. Then Kylern linked his own visor's sight to Alex to let the cyborg know just where Wraith was.

-Zaine-

Zaine was on the observation deck thinking about something. Hong Kong... Then an idea came to mind. Maybe I'll... use this to get to know her better. Zaine thought as he made his way to the hangar. Luckily for him, Tallis didn't seem busy. "Hey... Um Tallis, You got a minute? I um... wanted to ask you something..."

Wraith

Wraith was not using his mind to find enemies, it was still closed to aid in stealth; His eyes informed him of the two blocking his way. Wraith ran, his grieves somehow making no sound and with a quick leap he jumped Kylern's and Natalia's rounds and then dashed into a side corridor. An unlucky guard was beheaded as Wraith changed direction again and continued his journey to the outside.

Alex

Alex was surprised by Wraith's speed. Alex seemed to be gaining no ground and likely would have lost him if it weren't for Kylern's help. Alex followed Wraith through the twists and turns of the base but in the end it was for naught as Wraith made his way outside, cutting a trail of destruction through several more unlucky guards. Out there in the night, finding one man would be a feat that even a CX-series would find impossible.

Wraith

it had been a hectic escape yet one which had succeeded. he moved to the Huckebein as quickly as possible. Several search lights were sweeping the ground erratically, looking for him. They, sadly, never found him. The Huckebein sat where he had left it, still under the protection of the Mirage Colloid, Wraith wasted no time climbing aboard and launching. The Vanishing Trooper took off totally unseen.

Tallis Stenner

She had just been finishing her last shift before the break when Zaine approached her.

"sure. What is it?"

Tallis Stenner

Tallis was again surprised by Zaine. Her original plan had been to use the break to Practice more in the sim but she had to admit that spending some time in Hong Kong sounded like fun. Then tallis suddenly felt rather embarrassed

"well... I guess so but I need to clean up and change first. Meet me back here in one hour. Is that Ok?"

"All right." Zaine nodded. He let her leave first before going to make himself presentable. It took a little bit, but he found a decent change of clothes. a red shirt with black pants was what he decided on for attire. "hope she doesn't think less of me for this..." Zaine said out loud. Back in the hangar, he noticed he was early, so he decided to wait near his Huckbein.

-Emily and Masamune-

"Hey! Emily!"

The sudden pounding on Emily's door made her eyes snap open at once, looking around, having slept on her sides for much of the journey. Rubbing her eyes, Emily sat up, blinked quizzically at the door, and shook the rest of the blankets away from her as she felt her feet around for the slippers that were next to her bed. Emily groaned a little tiredly; The voice was Masamune's, but what could he possibly want from her?

"Emily, wake up already! Imbecile!"

After finding her slippers and slipping her feet into them, standing up in a cute-looking pink nightgown, Emily groggily sauntered over to the door and pulled it open with both hands. He really needs to quit saying that, Emily inwardly sighed. "M-mmm? Yeah, what's up?" Emily asked. "What is it, Masamune? Where's Kirie and Miss Lune?"

Masamune was looking more impatient than irritated when Emily opened the door, sneering, holding a white envelope in his hand. "Do I look like I care where they've gone, Emily?" Masamune threw his right hand upwards in exasperation. Stupid questions. "Here, you've got mail. This came in the mailroom for you a few minutes ago." When Emily's eyes trailed over to the envelope, however, she felt something, and stared absently for a moment; It suddenly felt rather important.

Blinking, Masamune handed Emily the envelope and walked away, shrugging to himself; Who would decide to send Emily anything, especially in Hong Kong? Leaving Emily standing there, Masamune soon walked away to the cafeteria to grab a snack; Emily stared at the envelope for a moment at a loss, unsure of how to feel, before shrugging herself and closing the door behind her to see what it was.

Tallis Stenner.

she had taken most of the hour to prepare. She lacked many things like dresses and skirts since such things were rather useless on a warship and since and weren't exactly her cup of tea. she finally settled on a pair of dark green slacks and a slightly frilly white long sleeve shirt. She entered the hanger somewhat embarrassed to not be in her uniform. Finding Zaine by his Huckebein she approached somewhat sheepishly.

"Er... Sorry if I'm a little under-dressed I don't exactly have much closet space around here. So shall we go?"

Tallis Stenner

Tallis felt a little more at ease with Zaine's reassurance and allowed herself to relax a bit.

"Well to be honest I don't have a clue where to go. how bout we walk around till we see something."

"All right." Zaine said as the two of them left the hangar. At the entrance to the port, Zaine spotted a little puppy. He kneeled down after walking towards it and picked up the little fluffball since it came to him willingly. "Huh... wonder who this belongs to?" Zaine asked before returning to Tallis. They soon found a little kid looking around for something and heard his question. "Have you seen my puppy?" the kid asked. He went towards the boy and tapped him on the shoulder with his free hand. "Hey...does this little fellow belong to you?" Zaine asked and the little boy turned around, and jumped up with a hint of glee, clearly indicating that he was indeed the puppy's owner. Zaine returned the pup with a warm smile. “Here you go.”

The man escaped as Kylern had expected and slipped out of the base. He was still in TRANCE as he looked back at Natalia with a sigh. "Seems like Wraith got away in his stealth Huckebien." Natalia was still rather confused as to how her partner even knew all this but as he returned his pistol to its holster she followed suit rather grudgingly.

Kylern decided to follow the path of carnage unphased by the sheer number of corpses. Natalia, despite being so outwardly tough, had to hold in her stomach to keep from vomiting everywhere at the sight. All the deaths were so clean and from the marks on the wall it was apparent the enemy had used a vibration sword to do the job.

After a bit of walking though they finally found the cyborg empty handed. Kylern knew he would be of course but it still sucked to see that man escape like that. "Looks like that Dark Star bastard escaped." He stared at Alex with his still red eyes and obviously different demeanor.

-Emily and Lune-

Hey Kiddo :)

Saw the Ceres pull in awhile ago, so I was wondering if you're still in. You free tomorrow afternoon? I'm in Hong Kong on shore leave for a few days and there's an opera tomorrow at the Exhibition Centre called 'Peer Gynt'. It's by the Norwegian Symphonic Troupe, so it's totally awesome!

Wanna come join me there? We can watch the Opera, grab some dinner, and then you can gather some of your buddies and we'll run a short adventure module together at my hotel for a few hours (Bring Your Own Dice plz) before I drop you off back at the Ceres. I'll be waiting, kiddo, and have included two tickets to the opera tomorrow. It starts at 1:00.

See you there,

-Steve L.

Despite not knowing what an Opera is, Emily suddenly seemed very interested --- if only out of the prospect of finally being able to play a real adventure module tomorrow night. And it was Steve Livingstone, Emily sighed in relief; Her old mentor was still alive and well! She tittered at that and, grabbing the tickets and pushing the disk out of her terminal, Emily quickly opened the door and dashed --- still in her nighties! --- and ran towards Ryker's quarters to tell him about Steve's offer.

It was in this state that Emily bumped into Lune's legs as she turned a corner, causing Lune to recoil back a step (and Emily to bounce back a few more, looking up.) "Whoa!" Lune giggled instinctively; While she didn't take well to being bumped, it was nice to see Emily forget her troubles and perk up again. "Where're you going, Emily? You look like your quarters were on fire or something!"

Emily raised the two tickets in her hand, looking elated. "Hey, Miss Lune! Do you wanna go to an Opera called Peer Gynt with me tomorrow?"

Lune raised an eyebrow quizzically. "Opera, hmm? ...I'm...afraid I've never been much for opera, sorry, Emily. Maybe you can ask Kirie or Masamune to go with you instead? I'm sure they'll..." Lune trailed off and eyed the tickets with slight suspicion. "Emily, where'd you get those tickets?"

"Oh, Steve sent them to me."

"Steve?"

"Steve Livingstone, when I was still a Feddie. Pretty nice guy, awesome, too." Emily placed her arms behind her back and nodded. "Taught me everything I knew about being a pilot and a gamer. Anyway, he was on shore leave here, so he sent me those tickets when he saw the ship park here, and..."

Lune looked slightly uneasy at Emily's description of Steve Livingstone, worrying about Emily; He was, after all, still a Federal Forces officer, and probably not beyond underhanded means to get Emily. She backed off another step and nodded in approval nonetheless, wagging a finger at Emily. "Well, you be careful all the same, Emily. Just don't get hurt --- otherwise, who am I to tell you how to have your fun?" Lune smiled. "Just make sure you ask Captain Ryker first, alright?"

"I will!" With a goodbye wave, Emily ran past the astonished Lune, into the corridors, and towards Ryker's quarters to do just that; As Emily left, Lune sighed and placed her hands in her pockets wryly. Maybe it was nice to see Emily so perky, but could Steve really be trusted...?
