60's Batman is by far the best. Adam West is awesome on a level only Shatner can compete with, it had the best Batmobile, and there's really nothing that can top SHARK-REPELLANT BAT SPRAY!

that series just took away the whole dark themed tone right out of Batman, they made Robin into SUCH a pansy

Wasn't batman that idiotic at the start in the comics as well? I mean it happened vice versa, first it was lame, then dark.

By the way the Returns version of batmobile was the best one in my opinion, batman always had a dark futuristic 50's ambient and that car totally fits in. The animated series version isn't bad either.

I have a sad confession to make: the first Batman movie I watched was Batman Forever...and I like it! Same with Batman and Robin! Please, don't burn me too much! I can't help it!

It was the other way around. He killed criminals with a gun, for one thing, and the first stories had a pulp/noir-ish feel to them, IIRC (I used to have a reprint of the first issues). It was the introduction of Robin, the influence of successive editors and writers, and the popular trends of the Fifties & Sixties which brought about the campiness.

God bless O'Neil & Adams for bringing him back to his roots in the Seventies.

That being said, I liked Returns and Begins the most.

Of the serious movies, I would say the original is my favorite. Jack Nicholson was awesome as the Joker.

The 1966 version is still my favorite Bat-flick though. Where else are you going to find a nuclear submarine with penguin feet?

I think Begins was the best and is also my personal favorite. It was definitely the most realistic one.

Definately, Batman Begins is the best. On that note, I can't wait for The Dark Knight to be made, its going to be freakin sweet.

I think its also worth mentioning that Batman: The Animated Series and its movies (there were a few - can't rmember the names though)were some of the best interpretations of Batman. The animation style and the dark theme really worked for it.

Okay, I lied about the first statement. I treat the five Batman movies as equals. So kill me.

I only remember Batman & Mr Freeze: Sub Zero and Mystery of the Batwoman.

I liked Beyond too, they should make a movie about it.

Agreed. That also had the best Batsuit ever.

A live action Batman beyond movie would be intresting, but for now we gotta settle with Return of the Joker. Which isn't that bad of a film.

I really loved Begins, but you have to give the props to Batman the Movie, I mean, "Luckly I spotted this giant pile of foam rubber for us to crash-land on" and the idea of a Balo-Gato class sub firing Polaris missiles? LOL. Besides the original had Adam West. Adam West, Adam West, Adam West.(Family Guy quote).

1) Batman & Batman Begins (9.5 out of 10) - these two share joint top spot.

2) Batman Returns (9 out of 10) - it could've have topped Batman but this is where campiness starts to creep in.

3) Batman Forever (7 out of 10) - more campiness starts to show through. Too much colours. Riddler and Two-Face became nothing more than clowns.

Batman and Robin?...
*memory block kicks in & replaces vague images of oversized codpieces/bumshots with images of multiple trainwrecks*

Bale is great as both Batman and Wayne. He gave a balanced mix of both characters, fleshed out the character of Bruce Wayne better than the rest and his Batman is superb. In short, he makes a believable Bruce Wayne AND Batman. Enough said.

As for Keaton, his Bruce Wayne persona is just average but insofar as all the other actors are concerned, Keaton is THE Batman. Bale does have his moments, I'll give you that but IMHO only Keaton has that psychotic Batman stare. The particular scene where Keaton was almost hidden in the shadows of the belfry with only his eyes visible (before the final showdown with Joker) always confirms Keaton's "Batman-ness" in my eyes. It just shows that Batman is himself a borderline nutcase (almost). That glare...*shudder*
