Re: Latest movie thread.

I had the '96 Flipper movie playing on my VHS last night as i tried to catch some Z's. As for today, i watched the last half hour of Casino which was great since i've seen that movie so many times and i love it so it provided a nice little tune in.

Re: Latest movie thread.

I caught Predators on DVD. It was crap. I could predict the script with 90% accuracy, including the order of death of the minority characters, short pieces of dialogue, and the ending. Yes, I am the kind of person you just hate sitting next to in the movies, or just plain be in the general vicinity of, when I disapprove of a movie. ;) There just isn't anything left from the franchise in these movies that would entertain me in a positive way.

That said, I'm going to buy the Predator quadrology for Christmas because the first and the second installments are still all good.

Re: Latest movie thread.

Oh Tekken I had hopes for you, you turned out to be an average adaptation at best....
I only enjoyed a hanful of actors in the movie.

Not to mention Kazuya ended up being a push over punk.
I enjoyed Raven, Christie, Heihachi and Yoshimitsu's portrayls most of all.

The plot was rather simple.
Just wish the fights had been a little longer on average as well as the movie.
NO XIAYOU!
Jun dies in lame way also.
As does Steve Fox.
And also I forgot Jin and Christie flirt and become close and almost have sex, odd to say the least in my opinion.

Rare Exports. Have to plug it since it's from here.
I'm not sure how available it will be, but the length is a modest 77 minutes, and it gives you an alternative take of Santa, to say the least. Trailers should be available in English in YouTube as well, but since it's mostly Finnish, you'll have to prepare for a subtitled movie if you manage to go see it.

I'm about to be watching I Saw the Devil later on tonight, I can't freakin' wait. I thought I wasn't gonna be able to see it til' March 2011 due to Magnet Releasing getting the U.S. rights and it's not slated to come out til' the back-end of the first quarter of 2011. I got lucky, in a nutshell.

Dark of the Moon? Is that actually the title or is there a typo, it just sounds grammatically uncomfortable to me.

Watching Trinity and Beyond i.e. the nuclear bomb movie.

Re: Latest movie thread.

So having now watched Top Gun I enjoyed the movie alot, some pretty good flying.
Interesting characters, my only complaint is I wish they would shoot bullets or missiles more.
I mean the stunt flying is good, but not the same when your trying to shoot an enemy down with bullets or missiles.
The last dogfight in the movie was pretty good though.

Re: Latest movie thread.

Theres a couple funny moments in Top Gun, my favorite would be when Tom Cruise does a flyby twice to the same guy and makes him spill his coffee XD.

I Just saw the Other guys, One of Will Ferrel's best so far LOL, and Mark Wahlberg is just hilarious in there too. Funny thing about Mark's character though
Spoiler
They call him the Yankee Clipper because he shot Derrick Jeter and cost NYC the World Series. ROFL

looks like typical Michael Bay rubbish.

I really don't want to come off as a dick, so I'll refrain from spoiling your guys' optimism.

anyway, I just finished watching the bluray for Perfect Blue (which received a really nice transfer, considering it's a low-key 1998 animated film). It had been quite some time since I saw this film, but it still remains as creepy and ambiguous as ever. It's such a shame that Satoshi Kon passed away... this film and Paprika still rank as two of my favorite films from him. Ugh... just thinking about him being gone depresses me, he was like the David Lynch of anime (and this is coming from a guy who hates to draw analogies between directors of two different mediums, but that's how good Kon is). It's such a shame his work went unnoticed by many, including fans of anime.

Just picked up Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. I'm going to write a paper comparing Mark Hamill's Joker to Nicholson's and Ledger's.

Re: Latest movie thread.

@Dark Duel: Dubbed or subbed, just out of interest? The following movies don't hold out quite as well as the first one as separate from the books (I felt like if I hadn't read the books a few things wouldn't have made as much sense), but they're still good enough to watch.

I got around to watching Scott Pilgrim, and it was pretty OK. It had sufficient tricks up its sleeve to distinguish itself, to its credit, from the most usual movies of the genre. I followed that one up with two movies I've had stocked but never had the time to watch; Shutter Island which also was OK, and The Book of Eli, which I didn't really care for at all (even Gary Oldman wasn't at his best shape as a villain).

Re: Latest movie thread.

I wanted to watch subbed, but my folks said dubbed. So we watched it dubbed. It was okay, I guess. I've been thinking of picking up the books; I always like to read the books a movie was based on.

I saw the Book of Eli a while back, and I thought it was okay - pretty standard movie for its genre. As for the twist at the end, it was interesting, but I for one had seen it coming. Couldn'ttell you why, but I just had a feeling it was going in that direction.

I don't remember if I mentioned it or not, but the most recent movie I saw other than that was Tron: Legacy in Imax 3D...and DAAAAAAAAAMN, that movie was awesome for all kinds of reasons. The Lightcycles look friggin' sweet, and the visual effects were just all-around mind-blowing. Also, Olivia Wilde is hot, and Hedlund was pretty cool. But my favorite character had to be Rinzler, and I especially loved
Spoiler
his last-second Heel-Face Turn, if you can call it that since he was a good guy(Tron, the titular character from the first movie) originally before CLU 2 brainwashed him. But what I liked even more was how the movie stays just a little vague about whether he ends up dying or not.
I also loved Jeff Goldblum doing the whole Ben Kenobi thing in the second half of the movie. That was just plain awesome.

Re: Latest movie thread.

I bought on DVD and saw Frozen yesterday. From the director of Hatchet, this one had some fair suspense due to the situation the three leads find themselves in. Though some of the dialogue feels a bit cheesy, as soon as the trouble hits the fan, it gets intensified and playing the blame game as well as talking about each other's pasts while trying to maintain their sanity and find a way to escape becomes a journey i was interested in seeing through to the end. The makeup required to emote the peril was fairly authentic which was a favorable point as well.

Don't you mean Jeff Bridges? Cause Goldblum aka the Jurassic Park/Independence day guy isn't in Tron Legacy lol.

But yea i just saw Tron Legacy too last Friday, and damn it was epic ^_^. So in turn everything you said i can agree with.
