Started to think about this after reading through the RMS-116H Hobby Hizack's profile which stated that it was considered a "sports" machine by UC 0093, so I started wondering...
Is there ever any sorts of "sports" that Mobile Suits are used for in civilian use?? I figured they would, most likely, use them in races probably and maybe building contests given their basic forms and usage...maybe target competitions? Though I dunno if they ever had "Mobile Suit Baseball" or any other such sports, lol. Seems a little doubtful for some.
Just another question that jumped into my head.

Yeah I would think that they would be used for racing and such things. I don't know about target competitions as the military removed the hand plugs that allowed weapons to be used. Some kind of special target use only rifle would have to be built for them to do anything like that.
As for something like MS baseball...
It works with the super robots.

Good question in the strip, lol. What about a foul? So many possibilities *imagines a brawl break out between 2 MS baseball teams* XD

I don't think that a "sport" classification neccessarily means that it's used for actual sports... IIRC, I've heard light aircraft referred to as "sport planes" even if they're not acrobatic or race machines. I think it's another way of saying that their used for their owner's "sport," or fun, as opposed to business.

Sports, in the Hobby Hizack's case, = "sports car," not football.

I was always under the impression of that as well. Hobby HiZack is to be a Mobile Suit's equivilent to a sports car.

It's not so much a "sports car" thing as it is a machine used for the owner's sport. Sport, as in "diversion; recreation; pleasant pastime". Yes, like a Light-sport Aircraft. They're collector's machines, stripped of weapons, military systems and a lot of armor. Someone wealthy enough to have a mobile suit "hobby" (like Stampar from ZZ) may want the civilian version of the Hizack.

The inevitable one-shot manga featuring mobile suits as racing machines did appear in the pages of Cyber Comix. Non-official, of course. The machines were heavily modified with additional thrusters, fuel tanks, and, in the lead's case, an extra seat for the navigator/engineer.

Try looking at pictures of Bandai's MG Zaku II Vr.2. I cannot help but think of offensive and defensive lineman. I'm just waiting for metal to CLUNG.
Anyway, isn't G-Gundams a form of WWE with very high stakes?

No. The Mobile Fighters are generally tuned to various forms of unarmed/close combat that their pilots are skilled in, rather than just simply jumping on each other like people in WWE or things like that. However, that's about as close to actual 'sports' as you are going to get with mobile suits.

mobile suit football, awesome.
*envisions MS Fooball*
Gundam hands off to Zeta, Zeta jukes left and fakes out Gouf, Victory tackles Zeta, but Zeta laterals to Dom, Dom scores a touchdown!
*stops day dreaming* awesome

lol, hurl shields for the discus or the beam javelins for the javelin throw and such.
I think it'd be an interesting idea to have such things at least....mobile suit hockey...XD

George and Gundam Rose would win the Fencing title.
Andy Graham could start the Northern Games with Lumber Gundam.
Imagine X-games gundams... lol

In addition to what mcred said...the outcome of the Gundam Fight, unlike WWE events, is not predetermined. It's an actual fight, rather than people pretending to fight.

X-Games with U.C. Mech.... There was the Snowboarding GM, and wasn't there a GX mech in this same kind of category?

Yup, the Juracg could ride a 'jet ski'', don't let the name fool you though, it looks exactly like a snow board, not a jet ski.

Said GM. Looks like more of a surfer than a snowboarder...
The GX mecha I believe you are thinking of is the Gundam Leopard, which had wheels in it's feet.

The GM Custom "Rider" picture has a small insert in the bottom-left there showing it on water... looks like it's a surfer machine to me.
