Why was the Guncannon Detector was made?

Or more specifically, what made Karaba decided to settle on the Guncannon Detector while they could had use something like the old GM Cannon/GM Cannon II? Yes, the Guncannon Detector is lighter and faster than its predecessors, but for an artillery support unit, they are not intended to face MS directly anyway.

I could think of the price tag - keeping the GM Cannon running while the supply of parts likely to put a dent on Karaba's wallet, while the GM Cannon II construction might prove to be complicated and expensive (Chobham armor, anyone?)

For one thing Chobham armor is useless against beam weapons, and would also weigh down the MS considerably. The GM Cannon II is also a much older unit and parts/maintenance will be harder to find and its performance is not that great to begin with outside artillery. The Guncannon Detector is based on the Methuss frame, and also has a much higher sensor range along with more weapons outside of a beam saber and vulcans.

After the OYW, artillery MS are not that common anymore, yes there are some support fire units but they usually can fight in other scenarios too. FAZZ is one of the exceptions though...

the transformation function was switched from space fighter to a smaller artillery emplacement mode. also other than the name and paint job it's really just a earth use version of the Methuss it's model code being MSA-005K Hayato named the unit after his Guncannon and gave it the red paint job . the advantage of it's TMS type frame allowing it go to a "pillbox" mode faster than the RGC units who had to lay flat.

From what I can find on the Japanese wikis, the Guncannon Detector seems to have been made to address a need for a long-range fire support MS with high mobility to suit Karaba's guerilla warfare tactics.
