Titans Fleet Size

What is the exact size of the Titans fleet at the height of the Gryps conflict? I remember dozens of ships being destroyed by the colony laser at the very end of the series....

Re: Titans Fleet Size

Short answer:

-About 100 at its peak strength, right before the destruction of the Gate of Zedan.
-60 or less after the destruction of the Gate of Zedan.
-18-22 as per the Argama's tactical display during the final battle (18 TV version, 22 movie version).*

*I'm not certain if the fleet destroyed by the colony laser are part of this fleet, which as the battle goes on is reduced to 15 ships, or if it's supposedly made up of the rest of the 60 or so aforementioned Titan ships (so, between 38 and 42), arriving by the end of the battle just to be vaporized by Gryps. Personally I like the later idea more.

The Titans don't really deploy any large fleets until late in the series, and when they do, they rely heavily on Musai and Chivvay cruisers donated by the Republic of Zeon. During Operation Apollo, I count 3-4 Salamis cruisers and 3-4 Musai cruisers in addition to the Dogosse Gier and Alexandria, suggesting a total strength of about ten warships. As we'll see, this is pretty typical for medium-scale operations.

According to a chart published in Newtype magazine, by the end of the series the Titans have amassed a force of about a hundred warships and more than 300 mobile suits. Some of these are detached to form a Gryps 2 escort fleet, which includes the Dogosse Gier, the Alexandria, a Hario cruiser, and at least 6-8 Musai cruisers; in TV episode 43, this escort fleet is represented by 18 blips on an AEUG tactical display.

The rest of the Titans fleet - about 80 warships, based on the above - is parked back at the Gate of Zedan, and roughly half of this force is destroyed by the collision with Axis. We see at least forty Titans ships escaping during TV episode 45, so this all seems to add up perfectly.

In theory, this should still leave the Titans with about sixty ships, but they evidently suffer heavy losses (and defections) after the Gate of Zedan is destroyed. As of TV episode 50, the Argama's tactical display represents the Titans fleet with only 18 blips, dwindling to 15 later on. An equivalent display in the movie version shows 22 Titans ships, which is still pretty pathetic.

The thread in question also covers the fleet size of the AEUG and Axis fleets during the Gryps Conflict, in case you would like to compare them.
