need help identifying gun.

So I was building the system weapon 001 kit. It has a zaku machine gun that has 3 different configurations. I chose to build

That one! I was thinking it was meant to be a beam gun but a buddy of mine placed as being a normal machine gun from 0083. I was hoping someone could clear this up for me.

I always figured it was an original configuration, a lot of the weapon sets have a few original configurations that don't belong to any specific mobile suits, but yeah, it isn't really familiar to me in-series.

Re: need help identifying gun.

That's the MMP-78 120mm Zaku Machine Gun mainly used by a the MS-06F2 from 0083. It has a grenade launcher underneath the main barrel. I also can replace the drum magazine with a smaller type which contains AA rounds for shooting down aircraft.

Anyway, if you want to give a Zaku a beam rifle, it can be either a Gelgoog's main weapon or a Hizack's beam rifle.

Awesome. Thanks for the replies! I can't wrap my mind around the smaller mag being AA instead of an ecap. Lol that's why I asked around.

Ah, okay, the non-drum magazine was throwing me off.

Re: need help identifying gun.

Not true. That's always been identified as an anti-aircraft magazine (対空砲弾マガジン):

Sakuya: "Whatever. Stop lying and give up your schemes, now."
Yukari: (Which lies and schemes are she talking about? It's hard to keep track of them all...)

There's a newer version of that gun on the MG2.0(?) Zaku F2, which looks even more like a top-fed AR-15.

Not a 2.0, just the Zaku F2 MG (EFF Colors).

But yeah, I'd never seen it posed with that ammo pack (though I never really looked into the Zaku F2), so I hadn't seen it before.

Re: need help identifying gun.

The magazine in question is only included with the EF version of the MG Zaku F2, since the Zeon version includes the MMP-80 Ver. 8 isntead of the MMP-78:

However, it is included in both versions of the HGUC model kits:
