What is the big projection on GM III's knee? vernier? missile? just armor?

those are like the boxes on the powered gm there there to fit the upgraded gundam mk 2 style parts to replace the old style gm armor. the concept of the normal GM III was to reuse existing GM II frames but upspec them with parts based on the RX-178

That's probably the lower white part of the knee, but what about the large grey upper part of the knee?

the only other thing they could be are extra fuel tanks for the new thrusters on the legs the gray boxed are only gray on the zz/cca version of the paint job by unicorn the boxes are white. or new camera boxes as the classic version has red sections
