Small question on the Gouf Custom from 08th MS Team

Ok so I just recently rewatched the series.
During the 2 part finale, Norris practically makes his Gouf move on it's own seemingly by a voice command.

So is that what it did or is it one of those odd magical Gundam is kind of alive situations?(like Sandrock did in Gundam Wing once)

I'm going to assume it was a simple voice command, walk function.

It's simply bad translation for the dub.

Norris actually calls out to Nieva, this young mechanic to make the Gouf Custom walk. Apparently, this is fairly obvious in the original Japanese, but not so in the dub with his "On Gouf! Awaken!" line (Or whatever it was he said).

He was actually calling his aide/helper/technicians that sits on the cokpit to follow him. IIRC the name was Nieva or something.

it was an dubbing error the three OYO ova's were dubbed by the same team who did the movies and this was one of the errors

Oh that explains it, I thought it was something new.
I mean since you can set a MS in to walk mode with a push of the lever.

They may ave assumed that since the gundam could move on it's own all ms could do that also the animation never shows that the kid is still in the gouf. the early dubs tended to give the UC era Star trek style tech right down to adding an line that char beamed aboard the gaw where the dialog had him land on to it.

That was bugging me too since I just recently re-watched the series as well. I was thinking "Norris really is awesome to make his Gouf walk by just shouting at it. I guess I should re-re-watch the series in Japanese. Norris is still cool to me though.

That only happened in the dub for the MSG movie trilogy and not anywhere else, so don't make it sound like it was widespread.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was simply a case of the translation team having no idea what the heck he was saying, so they just wrote in a line that they thought sounded cool -- as I recall, the subtitle for the Japanese dialog of the line read "Never!", which they wrote as a response to Aina urging him not to die.

I personally don't mind -- I too thought it was pretty 'effing cool when I first saw the episode on Cartoon Network.

If you watch the scene closely you can see the kid run out of the elevator as the Gouf passes by.

What we should be asking is why does he look like Bernie's cousin Ernie.

Re: Small question on the Gouf Custom from 08th MS Team

Meh, well, I had no idea he didn't voice-activate it.

That said, at least he's not beaming aboard any Gaws, XD.

It's one of those little random mistakes that actually makes the scene that much cooler. After all, voice-activation isn't that crazy a technology. In fact, the whole sequence reminded me very much of when Amuro had the gundam walk on it's own right before it took that famous final shot at the Zeong.

I'd always assumed that it was some sort of badass callback to that scene.

I always thought it was some sort of voice command, never thought it was the mechanic kid telling him about how few ammo they had
