Since no one around here seems to talk about Transformers, I'll pose a question: In Dark of the Moon the Autobots and Decepticons seem to have given up on any body mounted weaponry and now seem to use a large variety of pistols, rifles, swords, spears, axes and shields now. Was there any explanation or was it just "Ohohoh!!! You know what would be cool is if Optimus had a big ZOINKS rifle??!"

In this case I think Hasbro is more to blame than Bay. They designed the toys to use hand weapons so the movie bots get hand weapons. Why? *shrug* Only they can say.

Ah, somehow I doubt it. Although maybe they wanted to be more like G1 in this regard?

Well the G1 transformer toys for the most part were real robot toys before becoming techno-organic super robots. during the first two films they stuck with integrated firearms because the production staff decided that living robots would have them integrated so the toys mad that a auto transform feature. for the 3rd file hasbro went with attachable weapon gimmick.

I want to contribute to this discussion.
I don't have much info as to why they chose that route all of a sudden or if Hasbro pushed that idea little.

But in the original series or Beast Wars or other ones we have had Transformers with weapons built in to them as well as carrying guns, missile launchers ect.

So I think part of it was inconsistency from the designers.
Or Hasbro.
Or it could be the genius tha is Michael Bay, we may never know :P
