- Side 7 -
- Outside Gryps Colony -
- Alexandria-class Kirov -
- Main Bridge -

Commander Andrewson Trent pulled himself into his command seat, noting that Lieutenant Commander Aleksandr Ivanovich Stukov, gazing impassively out the viewing panels, was present on the bridges as usual. Commodore Wolf Ritter XXIV and Lieutenant Tariq Sayed, Taskforce Echo's intelligence officer, were also present.

"There are more than usual," noted Stukov. Trent knew what Alpha Team's leader meant, as he'd notice it, too: the number of warships patrolling Gryps Colony was greater than normal. Then again, security around the Titans' headquarter colony had been increasingly tightened since the prototype theft incident earlier that year.

"Recall all mobile suits on combat patrol and have all units form up for approach," commanded Trent.

-

~ some hours later

The entirety of Taskforce Echo was moored at one of the outer docks of Gryps' harbor, though they still had no clearance for any personnel to disembark. Throughout the harbor, there was a flurry of activity.

"What is this? Why do we not have clearance yet?" muttered Stukov.

The comm officer, Petty Officer Fyodor Pavlichenko, answered him immediately, "All they're saying, sir, is that there's some sort of 'critical operation' going on and that security is being tightened for the dur- hold on, now they're telling me they're about to send a boarding party on a launch?"

"What's that?" blurted Trent, "They're treating us like suspects to some kind of crime! Are they giving any other details?" Trent asked the question despite having a good hunch about the answer. His hunch proved correct when Fyodor responded in the negative. "Fine then," sighed Echo's de facto leader, "Prepare to receive their party. I'll meet them in the launch bay. Commodore?"

Although Trent still had lingering mistrust for the "observer" attached to the taskforce, the older man's influence tended to be highly useful. The Commodore nodded, then motioned for Tariq to remain on the bridge.

"Something else, sir," piped up Fyodor, "Looks like they're demanding us to have both Ltjg. Diotrephes and Ens. Engel present when we meet the party."

Trent and the Commodore both glanced at each other at the mention of the second name. Their gazes still locked, Trent replied, "Very well. Tell the security teams to bring Ltjg. Diotrephes to the launch bay, and call for Ens. Engel to report there as well."

-

Taking a gripper down the corridor, the Commodore leaned toward Trent and murmured, "This doesn't bode well, Commander."

"Of course not," hissed back Trent, "The powers that be are up to something." Trent said this while still suspecting the Commodore of being in league with said powers.

Trent looked back to see Stukov trailing a short distance. "Coming along for the ride, Stukov?"

"Do you think me so lowly, Commander?" shot back Stukov, "This will certainly be of concern to everyone in the taskforce."

- Launch Bay -

His expression expressionless, his hands clasped behind his back, Trent waited impassively as the launch's hatch opened slowly. Not far to his right was a three-man security detail with a restrained Dante Diotrephes, who appeared barely conscious anyhow. Alexandra Engel was there with her fiancée, Beta Team's leader Lieutenant Commander Wolf Ritter XXV.

Alexandra looked like the walking dead. Her eyes stared blankly at her surroundings, and she would likely have floated off to bump into a bulkhead were Wolf not holding her arm.

The first man to exit the launch was a man wearing the dark blue of Titans military police, his face looking something like a clenched fist. He clutched a document of some sort as he approached Trent and the Commodore. Half a dozen more MPs emerged, each holding a submachine gun.

With a snappy salute, the man announced, in an unexpectedly soft and clear voice, "Commodore Ritter, Commander Trent, I am Chief Petty Officer Per Lindström of the Titans Military Police. I have an order to take one Lieutenant, junior grade, Dante Diotrephes and one Ensign Alexandra Engel from this vessel. Is this clear?"

"Let's not beat around the bush, CPO," responded Trent coolly, "What's the reason for taking Ens. Engel?" It was clear enough why Dante had to go, considering what he'd done during the battle in the shoals of old Hatte Province, but removing Alexandra?

"Her psychological assessments from before and after Operation Apollo have been thoroughly reviewed," was Lindström's mechanical response, "The decision has been made that keeping her in this taskforce, with Ritter family members to coddle her, will only stunt her development as a soldier.

"Stunt her development?" growled Wolf.

"This is absurd," snarled the Commodore at the same time.

Unfazed, Lindström continued; "That's correct. My orders come directly from Bask Om, so any disputes with it are irrelevant. You can direct your complaints to Captain Om." For what good that will do you. It wasn't said, but it might as well have been.

Wolf suddenly stormed over to Lindström. Before he could grab the MP, the two of the enlisted men blocked his path, pointing their guns threateningly in his direction. "This is ridiculous!" roared Wolf, "Pilots aren't transferred for reasons like that, and you know it!"

Robotically, Lindström said, "My orders come directly from Bask Om, so any disp-"

"She stays here, CPO," the Commodore cut in venomously, "Take Ltjg. Diotrephes and go back to the harbor. I will talk to Bask Om with Ens. Engel still here."

"My orders," said Lindström, now with an undercurrent of hostility, "Come directly from Bask Om. We are author-" he was cut off by a scuffle; Wolf had tried to draw his pistol, but the two beefy young MPs had wrestled him down. The CPO continued, "We are authorized to use deadly force, even against you, Commodore, to carry out this task."

"Deadly force? To pick up a junior officer slated for transfer?" intoned Trent, "Can't you see how ridiculous this is?"

"That is not my job," was Lindström icy response. By then, the Kirov's security personnel had already pushed the delirious Dante into the launch. The young MPs, after confiscating Wolf's sidearm, moved to take Alexandra. The young pilot put up no resistance as the men took her roughly. Wolf, however, apparently losing his mind, lunged at the men. One grappled with Beta Team's leader, but the exchange was short-lived, as another quickly clubbed Wolf with the butt of his submachine gun. Wolf flew back, but had hardly lost the fight in him. He gripped a leg of the launch to stop his movement and was apparently about to throw himself at the men again when he heard a click and felt cold metal brush against the back of his head.

"Need I remind you, Lieutenant Commander," murmured Lindström, pulling back the hammer on his own sidearm, "That we are authorized to use deadly force on anybody aboard this vessel?" Even from across the launch bay, it was visible that Wolf's eyes flashed with anger while his body trembled with rage. Nevertheless, Lindström was clearly more than willing to exercise the authority.

"That's enough, Commander," called out Trent, "I'm not about to let you get killed over this."

There was a pause as the standoff continued, then the Commodore called out, "Wolf." Grudgingly, Wolf unclenched his fists and relented. Lindström holstered his sidearm, then kicked off toward Trent. In the same motion, he gestured to the MPs to carry Alexandra into the launch. When he was several paces in front of Trent, Lindström said, "It's unfortunate it came to that, Commander. I was told these Ritters were likely to resist the transfer. I was hoping they would be more understanding of military procedure than my superiors claim, but it appears the authority for deadly force was much needed." Trent looked over Lindström's document. Bask's official orders were exactly as the CPO had described them, down to the fact that not even the Commodore was excluded from the shoot-to-kill order. After some perfunctory signing to acknowledge the transfer, Lindström saluted the men. "Thank you for your understanding. I was not given any details, but I'm told that units around Luna are engaged in a critical operation that may well break the back of the AEUG rebellion. Certainly at times like these you can understand the need for order and security." He then made his way back to the launch.

Some time later, shortly after the launch had gone, Trent and the Commodore glanced at each other. "That Bask Om," murmured the older man darkly, "Wants to split me up from those I trust. He knows I'm a danger to him."

Trent opened his mouth to respond, but suddenly Stukov, who'd been in the launch bay the entire time, proceeded to howl with laughter. The sound startled even the alert Trent. Trent had heard Stukov laugh only once before, and swore it was the most unnerving sound he'd ever heard a human make. There was a certain empty inhumanity in the way Stukov laughed that sent chills up and down the Commander's spine. Nevertheless, the so-called Mad Russian, clutching his gut, took a gripper and left the launch bay, his lunatic laughter echoing down the corridors.

- Gryps Colony -

Taskforce Echo, and the Salamis Kai-class Herakles in particular, had received damage extensive enough to warrant remaining in port for over a month. During that time, the members of Echo had learned that the AEUG had successfully recaptured Von Braun City, and that the murky "critical operation" had been a failed attempt to drop a colony onto the Lunar city of Granada.

Dante Diotrephes had been put before a military tribunal and found guilty of high treason. According to official documentation, he was executed on the 10th of September. In the meantime, a multitude of replacements had been assigned to Echo in order to make up for those lost during Operation Apollo. There was also some personnel-shifting, as pilots like Jason Drossel and Patrick Miller, who'd performed well during the last few missions, were moved to the Kirov to fill in the empty slots of Gamma Team, whose leader was gaining a dark reputation among the technicians and orderlies for supposedly cursing his subordinates. The move of those two pilots had been spurred when Lt. Picard Kamek, their previous commanding officer, had suggested rather urgently that Drossel was fit for service aboard the Kirov. Lt. Tariq Sayed echoed the sentiment, and suggested Miller be moved along with him.

Other new pilots were transferred in to fill in empty spaces aboard the Kirov. Ltjg. Grace Kelborn, who'd proven herself a highly competent pilot, was assigned to Alpha Team, while Ltjg. Sven Haksson was brought in to replace Alexandra's slot on Beta Team.

Trent tried to have both Nick Te'litha and Gilliarme Lasalle promoted a grade each, but the powers that be still had suspicions surrounding what those two were doing with the enemy during the Side 2 ambush, and thus the promotions were denied.

On the Herakles, more than a few rumors flew around when inexperienced backup pilot Kyle Roberts was promoted to junior-grade lieutenant and effectively made CO of the suit team, instead of the battle-proven Constantine Pendragon or even Alex Lepak. Apparently, the promotion came not from Trent, nor even the Herakles' skipper, Isaac Berg, jr. Rather, the promotion came from a higher power, supposedly from Bask Om, though it was difficult to separate truth from rumor at that point. To fill out the team, a young, total rookie girl by the name of Cara Shiranui was assigned.

- Alexandria-class Kirov -
- Mobile Suit Bay -

Ensign Samantha Fulton scanned across Delta Team's section of the suit bay. Taskforce Echo had been assigned three brand new mobile suits. "Brand new" was not used carelessly: apparently, the RMS-154 Barzam had begun mass-production only weeks ago. Echo was among the first units to get any at all.

They were ugly little machines, Sam noted. Like the Marasai and Hizack before it, the Barzam had a monoeye, giving it an unnervingly Zeonic aesthetic. The placement of the hips and shoulders also made it appear shorter than it actually was. Nevertheless, Sam was told the machines had performance greater than the impressive Marasai. For the Barzam's sake and her own, Sam hoped that claim was true.

-Herakles Mobile Suit Hangar-

For the young officer it was a bit surprising to be true. He had been promoted to Lt. jg while they were stationed at Gryps, and despite the fact he was confused as to why it was still rather exciting. It wasn't exciting though to know they had put him in charge of the Herakles Teams as well as given a Hizack. He had been interested when he heard he was going to be given a mobile suit but that interest turned to revulsion when he saw it loaded into the hangar.

"My Father will kill me when he hears about this... Whats the point of fighting the Zeeks if we end up piloting their mobile suit designs?" He said lightly as he stood in front of it looking at the machine he was going to be taking into battle. It was definably no GM... Hell he would have preferred to have kept his GM II from the EFSF if he had know this was his fate. But what could he say... He didn't have much of a choice what they gave him and he should be honored that they were even giving him something. He hadn't done a damn thing to deserve this or the rank anyways. It was rather odd though why were was chosen over Pendragon and he bothered him at night to think about it. Something was rather off... Even in the EFF he didn't have much of a record to go one. Two kills were all he had under his belt and that was against antique Zaku IIs, not something to be proud off. It would have been embarrassing if he had not destroyed those pieces of junk.

"Where did those other two go? And who is this new girl we got flying with us?" He thought as he looked around. He hadn't gotten to talk much to the original two members of the team since this all happened and he sure as hell hadn't gotten to chat with the new girl. If he was going to lead this team then he needed to make sure they knew and trusted him enough to follow him. He had even been working in the simulators ever since the Hizack came in, in order to become familar with its operations. It wasn't too difficult... The machine seemed to have been designed for the idiots in mind. He didn't like the fact it couldn't mount multiple beam weapons... That meant either a beam saber or a beam rifle which was a far cry from his old GM II which could mount both. Why where they piloting these things? Didn't the Titans come up with anything better than this? But at least he knew what he was doing... He wouldn't get out there and completely mess up because he knew how to work this thing now. All that was needed was to test it in real combat or some good ole fashion paintball duels in space. That was how they did it back home after all.

-Salamis Kai-Class Buxoro-
-Mobile Suit Bay-

Ens. Warren DeRossi entered the hangar quietly, a military pack with his belongings slung over his shoulder, and looked around. The hangar was strangely quiet and empty at the moment. "Everyone must be on shore leave," he said to himself. He floated across the bay toward the door on the other side, intending to head to the bridge to introduce himself to the captain. He ran over the conversation between himself and the captain in his head, determined not to screw anything up. First impressions were everything, after all...

He stopped about halfway to the door, the light reflecting off the Hizack to his right catching his eye. He changed directions and floated up to the Hizack, admiring the brand new mobile suit. It's all so hard to believe... Just two months ago he had been piloting a beat-up, hand-me-down GM II in the backwater Southeast Asian theater, and now he was a part of one of the most famous task forces in the most elite military unit in the Earth Federation army. He'd been training and preparing for this moment for the last four years of his life and it still seemed unreal to him.

There was one thing he knew for sure, though. He'd come too far to screw it up now....

Warren was so lost in thought that he didn't even notice the hangar door opening behind him. It came as a complete shock, then, when the person who had just entered came up behind him put their hand on his shoulder. After a brief moment of panic, Warren turned around. "Who are you?" he said, a trace of shock still lingering in his voice.

October 12, UC 0087 --- Kirov Flight Deck

"You know, Sam," Gilliarme Lasalle suddenly frowned from behind her right flank, the man himself floating slightly above the deck with arms crossed and a wistful, almost mirthless expression. He was back in his Titans uniform, his wound having recovered long since then and any leftover discomfort easily put behind; However, the careful observer would notice a little something 'off' with how Gilliarme dressed now. No, it wasn't that it wasn't proper; it was straight, and Gilliarme himself looked tidy enough, but there was a slight degree of apathy visible in the folds of his clothes. "It's funny, don't you think?"

That was probably why; He had straightened it, but Gilliarme hadn't bothered making a dedicated effort to dust, iron and clean his Titans uniform, and his rank insignias were covered with barely visible (but visible nonetheless) dust. This in itself wasn't normal, and added to Gilliarme's bothered look; the old Gilliarme Lasalle who still worked on Earth and saw a different side of the Titans would've always made sure that his uniform was impeccably presentable before returning to base, but the one behind Samantha Fulton now...it was as if he cared even less for the Titans' politics now than he had before, if any.

"Only even four years back the enemies who fought the Earth Federation were the ones with the monopoly on the monoeye, and we had the firmer wide visors in our Mobile Suits. And the Delaz Fleet deserved their fate, too, firing a nuke and a Colony Drop on top of things..." Another sigh. "But now we're the ones with the monoeyes, they're the ones with the GMs, and we're the ones who deserve a beating."

It didn't take a genius to figure out what Gilliarme was poking at, of course; before it was G-3, and now it was 27 Bunch. Where the Zabis had Operation British and the Australian Colony Drop, the Titans had effectively repeated history with 30 Bunch and the Granada drop operation. If it was the Earth Federation during the days of the One Year War, this would never be allowed to happen. Thanks to Daningan and the Titans, the Earth Federation now had done everything they had hated in the Principality; they had become the very monsters they first fought seven years ago, all thanks to the overzealous nut that was his former CO.

And Gilliarme admitted it; he was quite elated when he heard Jamaican Daningan was KIA during that very drop operation. When it was announced that Daningan would lead the 27 Bunch Colony Drop to compensate for his failure to hold Von Braun, Gilliarme didn't know how to react beyond a deep, intense hatred he had not felt for his former CO since 30 Bunch; He was only grateful that Daningan was not on board the Kirov or that Echo was not assigned to assist in the drop, and had Daningan done so, Gilliarme honestly would've had Daningan assassinated before he could pull it off, even if it might've killed Gilliarme in the process. An eye for an eye. It'd still be worth the death.

The sadistic fool deserved his fate, for that and 30 Bunch, and that the AEUG had managed to finally finish Daningan off for Gilliarme was at least some indication that there was a benevolent God watching the Earth Sphere. But Gilliarme was still bothered and it was likely never to go away; there was now positively no telling for Gilliarme where the Titans might stop being overzealous and hateful. They might not even bother stopping, for that matter...

Gilliarme stared upwards at the Barzam in front of him and Samantha and shook his head again. The 27 Bunch Colony Drop only turned even more people, both on Earth and in space, against the Titans and Earth Federation; Already Morgan (who indeed became CEO of the Lasalle Foundation, just as Gilliarme predicted) and the Lasalle Foundation was publicly denouncing the Titans' actions, among many others (again as Gilliarme predicted); It wasn't a declaration of outright war, which was some cause of relief, but knowing Morgan it would be any single time, and knowing that Ellen would be in danger from whatever the Titans decide to throw at the Lasalle Foundation because of his idiot brother didn't make Gilliarme feel any better. Every instinct was telling Gilliarme to simply leave the Titans somehow, go back to Earth, hug his daughter close and tell her that he'll protect her from the very Titans he had tried foolishly to 'save' but ultimately failed to, but things were never as ideal as that.

Right now, adding to his list of worries, he just hoped the Barzam wouldn't be the Titans' Gelgoog --- a last-ditch resort that was too little, too late, and drove the Zeons to even greater madness through the Solar Ray. But what else could Gilliarme do? "I hate monoeyes, Sam. They're so...foreboding. It's like having a malicious eye scrutinizing me all the time, reminding me of my faults..."

- Kirov -
Making his way through the Kirov, Sven heads for the ships bridge, hoping to find the CO to make his introductions. It seems so long ago... Only two days ago he had received his paper work for the transfer to the Kirov. He had immediately packed up his belongings and set out for the berth where the next chapter of his life awaited him.

Shifting his rucksack to his other shoulder Sven wondered just what kind of man his new CO was like. His last few CO’s had been more worried about what his father’s reaction would be to his death then what a soldier he would make. He hoped that this new CO would not give him special treatment based on his name; too many times he was given special treatment just because of who was his father.

A smile crept across Sven’s face, as he remembered his last time he went to war. It was at his base in the Black Forest. His CO got on the base intercom and informed them all that Side 3 had just declared war on the Federation. They all had thought it was supposed to be a short: bloodless, easy war, “Oh were we wrong,” Sven mumbled. It was at this moment that Sven realized he had been walking around aimlessly and was now quite lost. He was near what looked to be some of the crew’s quarters. Sven leaned against the wall, and decided it would be best to wait for someone to show up and ask directions, then continue his wandering.

Since the arrival on Gryps, Jason has been a regular in this room due to it's lack of foot traffic. The room last saw action 4 months ago and then it was only used to store junk. Jason's concentration breaks when an unexpected yawn escapes. As he sits up he tosses the Marasai manual aside and looks at his watch.

"Jeez! Where's Miller at? Months and were still going over page 12." Jason grabs his forehead. "I musta been outta my mind when I said I would help."

I'd almost forgotten why I was sent here...

Jason leans back and watches the ceiling. Avoiding stepping on the colony gave him little choice but to help. He was also hoping to avoid boredom but helping Miller is a daily reminder. Jason would have better luck teaching a rock to speak.

Everyone seems to be doing their own thing even after the "unity" speech. Not surprised of how informal it was around the ship, Jason assume everyone was trying to "live" before going back into action. So informal that they haven't met their CO yet. Jason has seen him around but no spoken words between them yet.

Pendragon had been pleased when he found out that Kyle Roberts was a competent pilot, and that he had had previous combat experience, even if it was with the Regular Forces against Zaku II when he was in a GM II. The fact that he had actually participated in a battle meant that he was less likely to panic, and thus wouldn’t need any coddling. Constantine had actually been relieved, until he found out the truth…

Kyle Roberts is a snake, a snake who stole the rank and position that rightfully belonged to Constantine. Pendragon and Lepak do all the fighting and Roberts reaps the rewards. Bastards like Roberts who use political influence to gain power are going to be the death of the Titans.

Speaking of which, the snake is down below staring at his new machine. It’s obvious the new official CO of the Herakles Team used some sort of family ties to get that promotion. The fact that Bask Om himself ordered it is proof enough. Of course, it would not due to let the Snake know how he is viewed by his subordinate, so Pendragon’s face is a mask.

Constantine makes his way down from the upper catwalk to the hanger deck and over to Roberts before coming to a stop behind him.

“So, have you thought about who’s going to be your XO?”

"Oh?" Kyle had been caught off guard in his mental dream like state. He was still coming to terms with what was going on around here until someone spoke behind him. At first he started to turn and was about to say something until he caught eyes with Ensign Pendragon. Then his soul seemed to shatter as he caught what could only be put into words like stage fright. For some reason he felt that his new subordinate was threatening him with that look. He could see the smile but it betrayed the guy and it took what felt like minutes to regain his composer. In reality it was only a second of blank staring before he snapped to reality and mentally grabbed the first word that was scattered in his brain.

"Nice day isn't it?" He asked in that same little daze was in before the guy approached him. Kyle had never felt fear before but what had seen in those eyes were enough to scare him pale. But the color came back as he seemed to laugh nervously.

"Silly of me to say. But yeah I've thought about it and really there is only one choice. I've looked over the data from the last battle and your the only real choice for XO. Sorry if I seem sort off but I was just thinking about a few things." He said this naturally as he returned to normal. The Hizack was behind him like a sentinel watching the scene and Kyle wondered if it thought all this was strange too. What was he thinking... It was a mobile suit, not a person. Why would it care? As long as it got to do what it was created to do and kill people it was happy.

"Actually now that your here I want to go over some things regarding the pilot we are getting. Her records say shes as green as fresh cut grass so I'm thinking that she might need someone to work with her a bit. I was wondering if you would work with her since I'm still not really familar with the Hizack.

"Also we need to start working on team strategy. Come up with a few formations in order to get the most out of our four units. What do you say?" He was trying to be friendly with the guy because there was something about the tension that he wanted to escape from. If he could soften it as much as possible then things would be easier. After all he understood why Pendragon was upset and hell he was just as confused. This was all new and he was just trying to make the most out of a bad situation as possible.

"GAHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Nick sat up in his hospital bed, spitting up blood along the way. Leaning over his knees, he tried to let the fluid drain from his mouth, but his own heavy breathing was getting in the way.

"Oi oi!!!! Don't strain yourself!"

A nurse quickly tried to get sit Nick up and hand him a cup of water, but Nick with a bark tried to back-hand her; she managed to avoid the blow, but the water was swiftly knocked out of her hand.

"*Sigh* you've been warned about this, haven't you? The side-effects I mean. Those pills you are taken only numb your nerves and allow you to control your body; the seizures still happen, and it's putting an untold stress on the inside of your body. Add to that the pills aren't exactly healthy to begin with, your building a resistance to them, and the fact that piloting a mobile suit isn't exactly helping either, and we're looking at a real mess here."

The doctor, who had walked over and pretended to be interested in his clipboard, now looked down at Nick.

"You're dying, Lt. I give you a few years, maybe a decade tops if you continue at this rate."

Nick laughed, at it didn't sound nice.

"Tell me something I DON'T know."

The doctor frowned at the man's lack of concern for his own health, and half started towards his computer. "I'm going to recommend an immediate transfer..."

"NO!!!"

The strength of the voice rather than the venom was what stopped the doctor.

"Don't you dare..."

Nick didn't take long to glare at the doctor before getting up and throwing his uniform on, stumbling out the door. The doctor's frown was allied with narrowed eyes as he began to type up Nick's situation in a report that would find it's way to Trent's hands, along with the recommondation that Nick be transfered to a non-combat role. Just because that man didn't care about his life doesn't mean that no one else did.

************************************************************

Nick didn't make it far before his stumbling forced him to lean against the wall and breathe heavily. Nick looked down at his hand, fingers shaking as if wanting to clench into a fist but unable.

"D-damnit...."

Nick forced the fingers to close, but couldn't stop their shaking.

Mobile suit Hanger - Herakles

Alex just got out of the simulator beating his old record of 7 kills and walked into the lower catwalk. Since the last battle he has spent most of his free time in the simulators training and working on his handling, since his movement skill needed to be worked on. In the back of his mind Alex thought of how Roberts was now his CO.

Alex was somewhat upset at the fact Roberts was now a Lt. jg and not himself or Pendragon since they have done all the fighting on the Herakles. What made Alex wonder more than how Roberts was promoted was that his promotion came from Bask Om, how did the two know each other? Also there was a new female pilot coming aboard the ship, hopefully she won't be a bad pilot.

As Alex walked into the hanger to see the progress on his MS repairs he noticed Pendragon and Roberts talking to each other on the upper catwalk, and he couldn't happen to over hear their conversation.

Lt. Picard Kamek laughed at the ensign's surprised reaction. "Relax, bucko. I'm guessing your the new kid. I'm your new CO. Name's M-Hover Kamek, but you'll call me Lieutenant."

Things had changed in the month that had passed since Taskforce Echo returned to Gryps. Delta Team had, as Gilliarme had proposed shortly after Operation Apollo, been meeting regularly in the mornings. Whether or not there was any kind of progress was up for debate.

Nevertheless...

"They're miserable," agreed Sam, after having remained silent through Gilliarme's tirade about the Titans deserving to be beaten, "Sometimes I think they're trying to make everyone hate us." Sam then narrowed her eyes and eyed Gilliarme next to her. "Then again, if it's really better than a Marasai, maybe you won't end sorties in the infirmary."

- Corridor, Near Pilots' Quarters-

Wolf Ritter zipped up his uniform tunic as he floated out of his quarters. He'd spent much of September on the colony itself, but had returned to the Kirov upon learning Beta Team was to receive a new pilot.

According to documentation, the man sent to replace Alexi was a junior-grade lieutenant by the name of Haksson. Wolf was well-versed enough in matters of prominent families to be familiar with the name. What he was more interested in, however, was whether or not the man was worth a damn, especially since he was filling in Alexandra's shoes.

Alexandra... she'd been transferred to Taskforce Bravo to serve with the suit team of a Lieutenant Commander Maxwell Oliver. Wolf's father suspected Admiral Jamitov had his hand in the matter, perhaps to split up the Ritters and prevent them from being too great an influence. There were darker rumors floating around, too, and also more humiliating ones. Wolf hardly gave a damn about any of the ideas.

But, speaking of this Haksson individual, Wolf, had he been less alert a man, would certainly have tripped over the man waiting in the corridor just outside Wolf's door. Wolf gave the man a once-over; his insignia said pilot, and the pack over his shoulder made it clear the man was new. The man's name, according to his uniform.

"Ltjg. Sven Haksson, Ltcdr. Wolf Ritter. What can I expect from you under my command?"

As Samantha gave the Barzam a once over, it would seem as if a small trickle of light streaked from the cockpit to the head, and blinked slightly in the monoeye. It appeared for only a fraction of a second, but anyone that was watching that particular Barzam, at that moment..could have worn they saw some sort of form to it..

But maybe they had a little too much alcohol during their shore leave.. Either way, as the monoeye flashed, Samantha would be able to hear a small whisper in her ear..one she hadn't heard in quite some time..

"And you wonder why I quit the force, Sam.. Seems you and Gillarme are starting to see what I saw. Striking isn't it?"

As Kamek spoke, Warren had already shaken off his surprise and stood at attention, deeply embarrassed. Haven't even been on this ship five minutes and I've already made a fool of myself in front of my CO... "Yes sir," he responded. "Ens. Warren DeRossi, reporting for duty." He turned back towards the Hizack on the wall behind him, and asked "Is this my Hizack, sir?"

- Corridor, Near Pilots' Quarters-

If I could remember the transfer papers correctly didn’t it say I was serving under a Ritter? Sven knew a lot about the Ritter family, not just because of his family’s position but you did not serve in the Titans, even the EFF before that, without having heard of them. Father did mention that it was not just Silvia’s death he did say something about family alliances remaining strong. Sven reaches a hand up to rub the scar over his eye. That couldn’t be the reason that my transfer was finally accepted, could it? Sven had been leaning in the corridor for a few minutes waiting for someone when he was interrupted by a man in an Titans uniform coming out of the door next to him. Before he could even open his mouth and ask for directions the man beat him to it.

"Ltjg. Sven Haksson, Ltcdr. Wolf Ritter. What can I expect from you under my command?"

With reflexes of one who has served in the armed forces for most his life Sven salutes his superior. So this is the man I have heard so much about, He certainly looks the part… His time spent so long ago in some of Earths finest schools pays off, giving no time for awkward silence Sven immediately answers the question.

“Sir, you can expect me to follow your orders to the letter and to help support you in any of your endeavors should you ask. While it has been some time since I last saw active combat and never actually in a mobile suit. You can expect me to have your six in combat.” Stopping for a moment to get a breath Sven continues speaking. “All I ask for is a chance to prove myself in combat like I did in the One Year War. It will be a pleasure of mine to serve under your command.”

Extending his hand to shake the other man’s Sven takes his first good look at the man. He certainly looks the part, those eyes they have seen so much…

Sven asks the question that had him waiting in the corridor, “Being that you’re my CO would you like my paper work or should I go directly to the Captain?”

Jason having given up waiting for Miller takes a stroll in the Delta section of the hanger. Hearing rumors of new Mobile suits distributed to Delta Team has him lost in thought.

finally, we'll have an upper hand..only if there were--

As Jason nears the Barzams a look of disenchantment fills his face.

"um..nope, not gundams. They look like parrots." Jason quips.

Disappointed, Jason moves on toward the exit not even giving the Barzams a second thought. He has set his mind on another objective -finally setting foot on the colony. Things couldn't possibly get any worse Jason thought until he remembered the bombing which killed a Titan pilot the last time he was on Gryps. Cursing the Hades for the loss of his personal items, he prepares to venture out in -as he calls it- enemy territory.

wonder if carrying a side arm isn't too much...wouldn't have to go if Miller would only remember to get me some stuff. knuckle head.

Gilliarme shrugged off Sam's quip as he suddenly noticed something in the twinkle of the Barzam's monoeye, causing him to blink quizzically. Did that monoeye actually blink at him and Samantha...? Either it did, or his wound was still silently festering...

He quickly shook his head again to clear that mental image.

"Hmmph, believe me, Sam, the monoeyes have nothing to do with that," Gilliarme frowned derisively. "Maybe that Marasai should've killed me --- At least then I wouldn't have to see the Titans keep mucking around with their political bent. But I'm alive, so I get to fight another day. Sometimes I wonder if it's a curse in disguise..."

Then Gilliarme paused again, uneasily, as if making sure that monoeye really wasn't blinking at him.

After the Commander's speech, which Patrick could not follow at all since Trent didn't spell out everything for him, the large man hung around the Pilot's lounge and hangar to pass the time. He did this for awhile until they landed at Gryps and was assigned to the Kirov under a new commander. Since he never got to see his commander, Patrick never fully understood what that meant, and followed Jason wherever he went to not feel alone.

When he followed Jason to receive the 'new' Marasais for them to pilot, Jason had to spell it out for him that "Zack" was being replaced with this new guy. Miller could not pronounce the name, and instead decided to call it Mary. He liked the red paint job, but disliked the big head on the small neck, or as he called it, the "elephantity head." That is misspelled on purpose Psyden. He liked Zack better, but was told that 'Mary' was alot better than Zack.

After months of attempting to read the manual with Jason's help, they didn't make it very far. At teh current point in time, Miller was on the Buxoro instead of the Kirov. You may be asking yourself why would he be there when he is assigned to the Kirov. The fast answer is that he just is. The actual answer is that he still considered Picard his Commanding Officer since he has yet to meet the new one, and he liked him. So let's just assume he's on the Buxoro looking for his "CO."

After hours of scouring the commercial parts of the colony for a bar that would allow Jason admission, he comes upon an alehouse which doesn't immediately toss him out. As he approaches the pub it seems to emit a golden glow that hides the fact that this is a shady part of town.

Pulling the doors Jason enters...

- Gryps Colony -
- Club Get-Right -

"..you can get with this or you can get with that
I think you'll get with this, for this is where it's at.."

The Black Sheep song drowns out all sounds. Jason doesn't recognize the song and makes a bee line to the bar avoiding the scar covered waitresses. The place is littered with neon lights and a silver ball hangs from the ceiling. Jason throws in some extra coin when the bar tender gives him a funny look.

"Just give me a beer, buddy."

Jason assumes this is one of those theme type clubs only he can't place the time but he is sure it's from old Earth. Looking over his shoulder there seems to be a crowd gathered around an old style jukebox. Apparently the place seems to be popular with the younger dockworker types. As the beer is placed infront of Jason, he takes a quick drink.

gotta take the good with the bad I guess..
