Episode 11 - Granada Vanguard [4th]

((OOC: Sorry for the poor quality of the "episode title" jingle.))

ZETA GUNDAM: TALES FROM THE FRONTLINES - THE AEUG

“Whether in the afterlife, or somewhere else, the soul that once inhabited this shell is probably not at peace.

Further out, there is a blue-green planet where intelligent life has evolved.

There, humans bear and raise children. Too often, they grow arrogant, and take the gift of life for granted...”

ARC 2 -- OPERATION APOLLO

~August 8, Universal Century 0087~
~09:12 Coordinated Universal Time~

- Granada -

- The Dervish -
- Bridge -

The fleet had been waiting for orders above Granada for nearly 12 hours now, and the whole crew of the Dervish was getting either bored or restless. “Nothing for us yet, captain,” Jane called out. The Dervish’s original communications officer, Jane Alman, had been reinstated since the ship underwent repairs. At the helm, Wade was trying to stay awake, but quickly failing. Jungst and Filmore were both lounging at the radar/detection stations and talking quietly.

The 4th Advance Squadron, thanks to the “work” of Sir Maximillian Gates, now consisted of six ships. With the Dervish at the point of the vee formation, the Gela, Chuikov and Hamburg hung behind the Irish to her starboard, and to her port hung the two newest members, the Thunderchild and the New Yark. And speaking of Gates, he was in a sound sleep and snoring quietly in one of the vacant seats near the captain's chair.

“Hold position,” Abbey sighed, drumming his fingers on the arm of his chair. Wade managed to mumble “Yes, sir,” in his sleep. Since Gates had weaseled them off of the escort unit roster, they had been moved to normal combat operations and given a certain amount of autonomy. But that had come at the price of mind-numbing inertia since their reinforcement.

- The Gela -
- Bridge -

Capt. von Gyuden floated onto the bridge and was greeted by the ever-ready helmsmen Jackson Bergsel. “Welcome back, sir. Nothing new to report,” Jackson said, saluting as the captain maneuvered into his seat. Because of the AEUG’s incident at Side 4, Yurius von Gyuden had been a prisoner of the Titans until very recently. His aide, Maj. Coates, had managed to stay on Kleinhans’ command staff long enough to fudge paperwork and escape to the moon with von Gyuden so they could offer their services to the AEUG. Yurius saluted back and crossed his legs. “Thank you, Jackson. And so we wait,”.

- The Thunderchild -
- Bridge -

Capt. Coates, meanwhile, was twiddling his thumbs on the bridge of his new command, the Salamis Kai Thunderchild. “Should I tell the MS team to go on break?” the comm officer asked. Coates waved his hand in the air in a shrug, “Sure. Give them 45 minutes,”.

- The New Yark -
- Bridge -

The only completely unknown new captain in the 4th was the new commander of the New Yark, Capt. Christopher Guanche. Like Fritz, he had connections to AEUG intelligence, and had been assigned to the 4th to help manage their larger numbers. He sat in his chair, sipping a container of coffee as the fleet floated above the city. He noted some activity going on in the city below and adjusted his glasses. “Looks like there’s finally something going on down there...” he noted aloud.

- The Dervish -
- Fritz’ Quarters -

Fritz was scheduled to go back on duty at 10:00, but he was already in his new uniform and ready to go. Just yesterday he had a conversation with Capt. Abbey in which the captain had been kind enough to promote Fritz back to his real rank of lieutenant commander. He had just put the tabs that had been confiscated upon his defection on his new uniform. This particular jacket felt different, but in a good way. No longer was he trapped in his old tainted Federal beige or Titan navy; the AEUG had issued him one of the few new “official” uniforms they had decided on while he had been in Granada discussing 27th Bunch’s disappearance. His wife Elizabeth had given the royal blue jacket her stamp of approval, so it was good enough for him. Leave had been good...

--The Dervish--
--Observation Deck--

From inside the observation deck on the Dervish, Wes sighed as he stared off into the blackness known to many as space. His stay in space so far had been quite eventful, probably too eventful. Not long after he was instated into the AEUG fully, the squadron went from being the 4th Escort Squadron to the 4th Advance Squadron, putting him on full combat duty just like in Karaba.

To make things even weirder, he was put into MS Team 1 under now Lt. Cmdr. Fritz Ashlyn, supplemented by recently promoted Lt. JG.'s Michiko Sato and Jim MacAlpin. He was half expecting a demotion to one of the Salamis Kai's and stuck in a Nemo since the AEUG is unfamiliar with him, but of course fate wasnt cruel enough to him and he was allowed to keep Amuro's old Rick Dias as his own.

Wes didnt waste this opportunity. He had put himself under heavy training during the leave, attempting to remaster Zero-Gee combat that he hadn't performed for the last 5 years or so. He was now fully ready, with no rustyness with space combat any longer. He can now fully be an active participant on the Dervish.

"Curren is back in space..." he says, taking a long look at the neverending darkness. This was his home now, whether he liked it or not. He's got his part in the war to play...

The smell of fuel oil and MS grease filled the nose of one Richard Barrique as he floated into the hangar of the still under repair Sally Kai Gela. He tugged at his glasses, akin to those coke bottle eyeglass frames that the geek-set wore throughout the ages of human history.. well, maybe past 1950. Having earlier dropped his personal effects off at his quarters, he now made good on his personal promise to inspect his new MS assignment.

And that's when he saw it, or most of it. A quirked brow and partially frowned look came over his face as he laid eyes upon most likely the most beat up Nemo that he'd seen outside of his old unit. Like ole' 301, this Nemo had seen it's fair share of whacks, nicks, and dings, but for some reason this one looked special.

Well, not only looked..but smelled special. With the frown turned upside down, he kicked off of the deck flooring and floated up to the agape cockpit, which had the upper door off for servicing.

About two feet from the Nemo, one of the mechanics called out to him in a somewhat annoyed manner.

"Hey, hey..watch it. This girls just got a fresh coat to cover all the replacement plating we had to put on."

The mechanic looked Richard up and down momentarily as he caught up to the pilot, obviously not recognizing this one.

"Hey bud-" was all the mechanic spit out before noticing the rank tabs on the Richard's uniform. A Lieutenant..great.. Must be the replacement MS CO..

"I apologize Lieutenant. You wouldn't happen to be the new leader of the old Gellog's MS compliment? If so, it's about damn time you showed up..we were about to paint over this things left shoulder..."

Richard formed another confused, though curious look as he spotted the shoulder art in question..Frankenstein.

"Wait, Frankenstein..this wasn't Lt. Cmdr. Eckardy's Nemo was it?"

The Mechanic nodded with a wide grin on his face, which soon turned into a chuckle.

"That be the one. Actually, it's a conglomeration of two Nemos that the old Chief on the Dervie mashed together while they were out on sortie. I gotta tell ya though, the guy did a hell of a good job, as he pretty much maxed out the capabilities of this thing. Hell, she was reading something like a step and a half above a normal Nemo's performance because of the tuning he did on this thing.

But, since the thing was all but trashed, we had to use most of the available parts to get this spare Nemo going, and in that process lost the performance increases. We WERE supposed to get a new one, but I pulled some strings to get this thing back in the air..just because of the performance.

If ya wanted to, we could bring her back to the tweaked specs.."

Richard shook his head in response and scratched his scraggly chin as he eyed the Frankenstein scheme that had been pointed out before. With a smile curled on his lips, he piped up once again.

"Ya mind if I paint over that in a particular scheme..I never was a fan of 20th century rock.."

A shrug of indifference was the response from the mechanic, with the customary "Anything in mind" tacked on at the end.

"Yellow and black horizontal stripes on everything that'd be green, and the blue thruster cover can go black. Nemo-bee colors."

The Mechanic just rolled his eyes and face a wave off as he floated toward the paint crew who'd just started on the shoulder. With a smug grin and nod of approval, Richard kicked off an unpainted portion of the Nemo, and headed back toward the hangar entrance. It was high time he introduced himself to the Captain of this vessel, because he'd have to do a lot of ass kissing to keep that scheme on there..

------------------------

The Gela sure wasn't special for a Sally kai, as Richard had found while en route to the bridge. Peach walls and tan buffer pads lined the corridors, making it sort of monotonous and dreary. But at least it was better than what he'd put up with in that damn fort during Tunisia.. Releasing his grip from one of the zip lines, he finally reached the doorway marked "Bridge, authorized personnel only".

A "swish" of air was all that announced Richard's arrival on the bridge, where he found what appeared to be the captain and a bridge crew member in mid conversation. With a straightening of the jacket, he kicked his heels together and gave a firm salute.

"Lt. Richard L. Barrique, AEUG 4th Advance Squadron reporting for duty, sir!"

-The New Yark-
-Pilot’s Lounge-

The cigarette rolled gracefully around his knuckles. He passed it from knuckle to knuckle easily without the adverse effects of gravity nagging at him. Pan impatiently flicked the unlit cancerous tube away from him and put his feet up on the table. Leaning back there was a loud crunching sound. Frowning Pan pulled out a beverage cup that had somehow found its way wedged between the chair cushions.

Christ….

The irritable man rose from his seat groaning and stretching. Letting the cup float around the room with the cigarette he thought someone else would be happy to pick it up. Not him, he had better things to do.

He stepped out of the pilot’s lounge and almost right on top of a crewman. He gave the kid a cheeky smile and apologized, before he grabbed a hold of the ‘gripper’ and flung himself towards the hangar.

He grinned almost sadistically as he took small amounts of pleasure from the trip.

He floated into the hangar almost arrogantly, if he would have been walking he would of marched in there in a full out swagger. He squinted slightly , looking for the rest of the New Yark’s Ms team. He spotted them quickly, touching down on the ground he pushed off and floated towards them.

”Eh! I’m finished with my break, Why don’t you guys clean your shit out of the lounge for once?”

(OOC: I'm assuming I can post in this thread because it has ARC 2 in big bold letters.)

Vantz Howard stared up in suppressed awe at the hangar of the Salamis Kai-class Chuikov. He looked at the four Nemos that made up the ship's mobile suit compliment and thought, One of those is gonna be mine. Cool, I'll have my own mobile suit.

Vantz slung his duffel bag over his shoulder and looked for a mechanic. "Hey, dude. Do you know where I can find my quarters? I've never been on a warship before."

The mechanic shrugged and said in an annoyed voice, "You could try the pilot's lounge. I'm sure they've got someone or something in there to help straighten out the new arrivals. Just go through that door over there and take a left. There'll be a door that says "Pilot's Lounge" on it." The mechanic glanced at the Coffin case Vantz was holding in his right hand. "You play, huh?" he asked.

Vantz nodded. The guy said, "I hear a bunch of the pilots like old 20th century rock. I'm sure you'll be very popular with 'em." Vantz chuckled and went off in the direction the mechanic had pointed."

- The Gela -
- Hanger -

Bernard hops in with a small duffel bag and a large dirty mail bag containing letters from loved ones to the Gela's crew, which he drops. Focused more on the hanger bay and its occupants, Bernard sees the chaotic movements of the crew and it fills him with fond memories. For years he had nothing to do but maintain things at Kinbareid. Keeping that old base running was a major pain but it was home. A group frantically painting a Nemo caught his eye. "Yellow and black. Must be the CO's"

Bernard eyes the rest of the Nemos lined up across the hanger, hoping they won't fall apart. O-well, this is home now, I guess I'd better go dump my stuff and give these guys a hand with repairs. And with that last thought, Bernard leaves the hanger in search of his quarters.

Jim stood back and smirked at his handiwork. As soon as he had gotten off the Chuikov, he had started working on various custom insignias and whatnot for his shiny new Dias. Finally, after practicing all through the fleet's repair and resupply, he had produced the perfect design. The chest was neatly lettered with his name in white; the right skirt armor bore a single white sword, uplifted by a gauntleted hand; and the left skirt armor was emblazoned with his new guardian angel. ((Thanks to Fritz for the image!))

Now he was ready to face anything the Titans had to throw at him.

"Lets see.....Ensign Vantz Howard.....wonder where he is."

Jonas wandered through the ship looking for his subordinate. In his hand was Vantz Howard's file. He then noticed someone with a guitar case.

That must be him, thought Jonas

He headed towards his squad member. "Ensign Vantz Howard, I presume?" asked Jonas. "I am your squadron leader, Lt. Jonas Anderson. Pleased to meet you." Jonas held out his hand. "Don't worry if you have trouble saying this ship's name. I still can't pronounce it right."

When the bridge door hissed open, Capt. von Gyuden rose from his chair even before he realized it was his MS team leader. The man came to a stop, tidied his uniform and gave a professional salute. "Lt. Richard L. Barrique, AEUG 4th Advance Squadron reporting for duty, sir!"

The captain drew his shoulders back so his posture was better and returned the salute like he was back on 27th. “Welcome to the Gela, lieutenant. Please call me Yurius. As I understand it, we’re both new here, so it looks like we’ll be taking cues from the rest of the crew until we’re caught up. I’m looking forward to seeing you in action, Lt. Barrique,”.

Lt. Mello was just finishing a talk with the other two pilots in the team when Pan landed near them and bellowed, ”Eh! I’m finished with my break, Why don’t you guys clean your **** out of the lounge for once?”. One of the pilots stepped out from beside his young comrade and somehow practically slid over to Pan, his hand rising up to face level to halt Heyden’s speech. “SAY, SAY, SAY!” he half-yelled, his tone interrupting but not rude. Once he was in front of Pan, he took a wide stance, raised both hands into the air and began doing tiny pelvic thrusts as if it were his normal standing position. At this point, no doubt, Pan would have noticed this particular pilot’s... creative attire.

He had a fairly well-toned build, really enough that some scrawny men might envy him, and his skin was a healthy caramel color. Of course, that wasn’t the strange part. As headgear he sported the rarely seen red Titans’ duty cap, the kind Bask Om was never seen without; the hat band across the front had been decorated at some point with metal studs. Beneath the brim was a pair of dark sunglasses and a thin, neatly trimmed goatee. His jacket had been altered so that it was sleeveless, and it was unzipped low enough to show off a good portion of his smoothly shaved chest; he also had on some sort of wrist bands made from jacket material that featured more metal studs. All that would be enough for most people to shrug off in the AEUG, but he didn’t stop there. His pants had been hemmed so that they ended just low enough to be considered at the long end of hot pants range. He boots were shorter, too, ending just at high-top level.

“HAADO AE~ DESU!” he howled, the thrusts speeding up slightly. Lt. Mello quickly stepped in, obviously used to explaining this particular pilot to others he had served with. “You’ll have to excuse him. This is Ltjg. Ramon Sumitani. Goes by ‘Hard AE’. Supposedly short for ‘Hard AEUG’ or something. He’s a top notch pilot, really,”. The youngest member, a chestnut haired teenager, waved his hands in defense and spoke up, “Hey, I haven’t even been to the lounge yet, sir!”. Ramon laughed and said, “New comrade, FOOOOO!”.

"Don't worry if you have trouble saying this ship's name. I still can't pronounce it right."

Nathan Dombrowski suddenly came around the corner, spearing the two pilots with an appraising glare.

"Chuuuweeeekovvvfffffff," he intoned softly and slowly. "She's the Chuikov, and she's my ship. I take it that you're some of my new pilots? I hope you don't get too familiar with your quarters, Ensign... You'll probably be spending more time in the cockpit than in your bunk..."

(OOC: OH NO YOU DIDN'T!!)

Pan clenched his fist as the flamboyant Ramon continued to thrust his junk a bit to close to his proximity. The guy was either sick in the head or light in the loafers and either way Pan didn't like it. He'd put up with it for now. He slipped right around him easing off tension in his fist. He stopped closer to Lt. Mello and the youngster.

Quickly turning to the kid, he spoke in a friendly voice. "You haven't been to the lounge?? You're missing out Kiddo! You should definatly check it out!" He said trying to get him excited. "Hell!! Go right now! and tidy up a bit!" He said, giving the youngster a gentle push. Towards the direction of the lounge.

With that he turned to his CO. Had things been a bit different it would Pan, standing in his spot right now. The guy was a bit young looking, but then again Pan would rather listen to him then thrust-o-matic. He casually tapped his forehead before speaking. It was an unsual way to salute.

"Whatchyou boys discuss while I was out on break? I didn't miss anything did I?"

Vantz turned to the man who'd just walked around the corner. He assumed the guy was superior, since everyone was higher rank than him it seemed, and said, "Of course sir, I just wanted to put my stuff down. If I may ask sir, who are you? I'm not familiar with anyone on this ship."

Wes had begun to wander around the ship aimlessly. So far, things had been quite uneventful for him since their leave ended. He had already trained himself to the brink (at one point even overheating the simulators), and now he was left with nothing to do. Jim was off somewhere drawing pictures to place on his Rick Dias, and the others were nowhere to be found.

"I havent even gotten the chance to familiarize myself with these guys..." Curren wondered to himself.

Jacob still wasn't entirely comfortable with the layout of the Dervish or the size and shape of the hangar. Nor was he completely accustomed to the idea that he was going to be piloting the Rick Dias looming over him.

There had to be someone more suited to piloting the advanced Mobile Suit than him. Maybe one of the new pilots he knew had been assigned to the fleet. Still...it looked nice standing next to the other suits of the former Hamburg Team.

"Team 3. I'm in Team 3 now," he reminded himself, craning his neck to look up at where the mechanics were finishing the minor bit of customization he asked for.

"Alright, space jockey, it's done!" the head mechanic called down with a wave.

Jacob had to step back to see the results of his request and when he did a lump formed in the back of his throat. Emblazoned on the right forearm of the suit was the word Phelps and on the left Kukum, the two ships that he had failed to protect.

Now, he would never forget them. They would always be there to spur him on to protect the other ships he was entrusted with.

A firm salute from the captain was the response Richard got to one of his more professional introductions.

“Welcome to the Gela, lieutenant. Please call me Yurius. As I understand it, we’re both new here, so it looks like we’ll be taking cues from the rest of the crew until we’re caught up."

At first it was odd, having a commanding officer request to be referred to on a first name basis. But, this WAS the AEUG after all, and not one of the more professional military organizations in the earth sphere. Quite the change from his days in Africa, and better yet with his old ship. It might have been the atmosphere brought on by the familiarity of the captain, but Richard could tell that he was going to like it here on the Gela.

"So I have heard, Captain. It's good to know though, that this vessel is in pristine condition, a sure sign of a dedicated and professional crew. If it's one thing I have learned over the years, a good, hard working crew under your care always wins the day."

Bringing himself to an at-ease position, the commander did the same.

"I'm looking forward to seeing you in action, Lt. Barrique,”.

"As am I eager to get into that action. Being stuck on the sidelines with a broken Nemo has allowed me to languish, and that isn't a good thing for a pilot if he's chomping at the bit to take down some of those blue-skinned boobs out there."

With a chuckle, he continued once more, his face turning to one of confusion and slight worry.

"Speaking of pilots, you wouldn't happen to know where the files on my team have ended up, sir? They were absent from my cabin when I dropped off my effects."

- The Dervish -
- Ready Room 1 -

"So I take it you guys just got the Rick Dias not that long ago?" The oldest man asked as he sat at a table with two other men. A fourth was lounging on a near-by couch, music was playing although it's volume wasn't very high.

"Yeah, right after we met up with these guys." Marvin Hamilton said, his voice slightly creaky. They'd been told to expect replacements, but to get these men as the replacements for the 2nd Team was stunning. "We've only been using them for a few weeks now. Our's are all basic models but Eddie's is upgraded somewhat."

Roy Grunwald grunted his understanding and rested his chin on his left hand. He'd arrived on the Dervish only a few hours earlier with the other man at the table and both had learned the history of the ship, including it's disastrous final mission before being folded into the AEUG's 4th Advance Squadron.

"Extra mobility or something like that right?" Ian Greydon asked, his voice being rather neutral. He got a nod from Marvin and gave a grin. "So, I've heard you go by the nickname 'Cowboy'. How does a kid from Side 6 get that kind of name?". Marvin paled and Roy chuckled at the same instant.

A head popped up from the otherside of the couch. The grinning face and messy black hair of Eddie Eckardy were drawn away from his stero and old rock music for what was only the third time in their conversation, which had been going on for almost an hour. "I can answer that."

Marvin buried his head in his hands and mumbled something neither of the former Zeons could make out, but apparently Eckardy could. "Well, back when lil' Marv here showed up, he was probably the fifth replacement we'd had in short while and none of the guys expected him to last. Well, I couldn't just keep callin' him 'Newbie' or s*** like that, so I had to give him a nickname, it's just somethin' I do." He grinned. Eckardy was already working on names for all the pilots being brought on the Dervish. "Somethin' just said 'Cowboy' in my head, so I started calling him that. Well, I got bored one night and stole some brown paint from our old chief and painted the kids helmet brown, kinda like a cowboy hat I'd sceen on vacation when I was a kid."

Greydon was grinning at this point. Grunwald patted Hamilton on the shoulder. Eckardy continued. "So that's how everyone starts to know him, the guy with the brown helmet, and my nickname for him just kinda spread. And since he's been on this ship for God knows how long now, all the old crewers just know him as Cowboy."

"How many times have I heard that one?" A voice said from the doorway. A man with a blonde crew cut and a normal AEUG day uniform strolled in. "Don't answer that one Ed." He added a moment after Eckardy began to speak.

"Forty-Nine-Hundred times. Like being back on the sub-bridge Al?"

Commander Alan Roth, the Dervish's one and only Executive Officier, nodded with a smile. He had never wanted to be a commander, although being an XO was perfectly fine for him. "Love it. Everything down there works and I can get away with smoking." Eckardy grinned at that. Smoking was allowed legally in a handful of places on the ship, but since only a handful of people ever did, and fewer still on a normal basis, Roth generally kept his down to the sub-bridge where it only bothered the kids working down there with him. "Anyway, I came over here to see if you new guys have been checked out on everything and what not."

Both Ian and Roy nodded, the former spoke. "Yes sir. It'll be nice to have our own rooms." He said with a grin.

Roth shook his head. "Thats all fine, just please don't call me sir." Both men nodded, having encountered similar types of officers in their lives before. "Alright. We'll, I'll be in the sub-bridge till about 10:30 or 11 if ya have any questions or whatever." He turned and started for the door.

"Later Reggie!" Eckardy screamed at him. Roth's paced was disrupted for a brief moment before he continued on his way and left the ready room.

Grunwald turned to face the other two men at the table. "Well, I think this deployment is going to be pretty interesting." He said with a grin. Both nodded.

Salamis Kai-class Chuikov

Things couldn't be more complicated for Julian Meighan right now.

First, the Titans had actually stepped onto Anaheim's doorstep months earlier, accusing his company of siding with the AEUG. It was a fact, of course. The AEUG and Anaheim made an almost invincible combination that made the AEUG a deadly enemy against the Titans, and it was natural the Titans tried to nip this in the bud. In the end, Anaheim gave the Marasai, initially intended for the AEUG, to the Titans as an appeasing gift, and Julian only hoped it won't bring the Titans back.

Secondly, whatever this business was in Granada had gotten Julian conscripted into the AEUG's active corps proper. This '4th Advance Vanguard', whatever it was, was organized hastily; Julian, because the AEUG lacked manpower, was assigned to them almost at the very last minute. Julian knew, after all, he wasn't the only Anaheim Electronics test pilots to be assigned to the AEUG, at least for the duration of the upcoming operation --- Rosemary Bridget, from the Rick Dias II development group, was herself assigned elsewhere and was nowhere to be seen since. Was the situation that bad for the AEUG? Julian hoped not and, in his own way, hoped so. Perhaps that would break the stalemate and inspire some to get off their butts, at least.

And now, the Chuikov's MS XO.

Making his way through the Salamis Kai's walkways, Julian then came across a trio of officers talking amongst themselves, one of them wearing the trappings of the Chuikov's skipper. The other two looked to be pilots. At the moment, they seemed to be orienting themselves, making idle talk, although the skipper seemed eager to bust the pilots down a notch first.

Then the name 'Jonas Anderson' caught his ear. That was who he was looking for.

Julian stopped in front of the three men, straightened himself with a shrug, and waited for the Skipper or Anderson to notice him before saluting them. "Lieutenant Anderson? Ltjg. Julian Meighan, reporting as assigned, sir."
Don't throw the baton, you jacka**!!!

(OOC: Sorry for not mentioning this, but my internet connection has been pretty lousy the past few days. My earlier post here was during the brief time it decided to not PMS on me and run smoothly. My apologies to all.)

"Well, the Captain has spoken. Ensign, your quarters are down this hallway, but....mapping out the shortest way to your mech from your room is indeed a good idea as well. Welcome aboard. Anyhow, I would like to speak with you, LtJg. Julian, and the rest of the squad later. Lets meet in the hangar, okay?"

Jonas headed down the hallway and went into his room.

Dombrowski narrowed his eyes. Pilots... He might not have been invited, but surely they didn't expect him to let them meet without monitoring them... did they? He'd be discreet, of course, but he couldn't have them undermining his authority... Ah, but that was an issue for another time. For now...

"Carry on, then," he simply said, then grabbed a gripper and went on his way. He would introduce the younglings to proper discipline later.
Don't call it a comeback...
...in fact, it's best if you forget I was ever here before.
